This place has tanked. 2 orders ago they got the order wrong, but hey, it happens. The last order I got was delivered but the food never made it. I called the store a couple times and I kept getting told "the manager will be in tomorrow". Then I was told they won't refund it. I don't know if it's new ownership or what is going on but this place has become disgustingly shameful. In response - Who are you? When did we talk? I talked to 4 people and never got a name. Why is your staff promising refunds if you won't give them? Why would I want food remade 3 days later? Not a single apology. Terrible customer service. Inconsistent. Poorly handled. You say you're here to help yet you refuse a reasonable solution. Crazy

Google
They have some fairly good pho, though I found myself preferring the dumplings and wontons. The brisket and steak wasnโ€™t the best, but certainly pretty good. They give good portions and are accommodating for tweaks you might want. They provided us with extra jalapeรฑos and hot oil. Iโ€™d be curious to try the chicken pho here as well at some point. No complaints, just not the best Iโ€™ve had. P.S. They incorporate tip into the bill by adding a 12% service fee, so donโ€™t worry about tipping.

Warning for dine in: tips are cash only. We ordered the pan-fried pork dumplings, shrimp spring rolls, grilled shrimp vermicelli and the grilled chicken and egg roll vermicelli, and Vietnamese iced coffee. My friend had never had any if these before and loved it. I've been here a few times already and got take away. Take away has an option to tip.

Google
Hai Ky is my go-to spot in Austin for phoโ€”hands down the most authentic in the city! The flavors are on point, and I love that they stay open late, making it the perfect place for a late-night craving. Always a great experience!

Google
Always great service here, day and evening. Their Chicken Curry Stir Fry with Brown Rice was EXCELLENT!! Nice and spicy ๐ŸŒถ I recently tried the Kung Pao Chicken and Pork Dumplings, and can say that everything I've tried so far tastes great! They know how to bring out the flavors of each sauce without drowning the plate. ๐ŸคŒ

The food is awesome. The value for the price is very good. We both had #45. Best vermicelli bowl in CTX. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Google
Food was good, a busy take out place. Beware if you eat in, they charge you a 12% fee(in small print on menu at the bottom)...when you order to go they charge you a 3% bagging fee ๐Ÿ™„...they charge you $4 for a 20oz cup of lemonade they bought at Costco 2pack 96 oz for $8.

Google
I went here for lunch on a Tuesday. Very busy but not much of a wait for a seat. The spring rolls and peanut dipping sauce were basic. The peanut sauce was very watery & diluted, not a lot of flavor. The broth in my pho ga tasted good. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable but I would not go back again.

Yelp
Cold day. Wanted something warm. Pho is the right answer. Had it delivered by GrubHub. Arrived fast and hot (thanks, Tyler!). Vegetable pho and tofu. One container filled with goodies, another with broth. Mix them together and you've got a pretty tasty meal. Hubby ordered pork fried rice. The cook must feel sorry for him - looks like 2 or 3 servings...

Yelp
Good food service enjoyed the shrimp spring rolls and their Pho. Service was ok but it stop me from going back.

Yelp
I had a good time at Hai Ky. So the tables are all clean, but there's this thin veneer of grime on the place itself. It's still great and worth a trip if you're craving Vietnamese food. I didn't get the pho, but was told it's delicious. I ordered the Tofu & veggies fried rice and I absolutely cleaned my plate. The portion size was satisfying without making me feel stuffed. It's all reasonably priced as well. The servers are friendly enough, be prepared for a wait though, it seems there's only a couple of people working. They bustled about pretty quickly so it's not so bad even if there happens to be a lot of customers. The food was well worth the wait he had. I mean really I needed some comfort food and hot fried rice with fresh ingredients and well seasoned tofu really hit it for me.

Yelp
No-frills, smaller spot in south Austin. It's been on my list, but I don't think I'd come unless I was craving pho and I was already in the area. The pho dac biet was a bit small in noodle portion and salty in soup $12. I liked the cold vermicelli dish (~$14) more, and loved the char on the pork, as well as generous portions of meat in both dishes. Egg rolls were okay. Quick service.

Yelp
It's always the hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurants that absolutely rock your world. It's a rule in my household that Asian places with 3 stars are the best places. And this hits all of those spots. The pho was so flavorful and not to mention cheap. It was a small place but the vibe was on point. Waitresses were nice and the food came out quickly.

Yelp
Delicious food. Always fresh. Tons of perfectly cooked vegetables. Two things done let me give this a 5 star. Please remove all the storage items from the dining room and the rest room. Who wants to eat in a storage room with shelves of boxes. Just figure it out. There has to be a better solution. Next please let us tip on our credit cards. I know there is a 12% tip included on the check and that's fine but I want to leave more and never have cash. I think your servers would really appreciate this. They would make more money.

Yelp
So far, the food has been good every time I visited. The flavors are not overpowering and the portions are generous. The chicken and eggroll vermicelli, and Hu Tieu Ap Chao are quite good. I thought that the pho was bland but that was a to-go order and may be different if eaten fresh. The service and ambiance were okay. Overall, this was a good low-key spot with good food with good portion sizes.

Yelp
Hai Ky has a low-key profile on the Austin food scene, but lives up to the name pumpkin out high-key flavors under the radar. Now, I must insist, you NEED to order the ap chao chay and add a side of chili oil. Ap chao means both pan-fried and sauteed, so what you get are sheets of fused noodles that are chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. It's a multidimensional textural experience, and every bite is a bit different. Some pieces are have a resounding crunch like a deep-fried wonton, while others have more of an al dente give. It's unlike any other straightforward stir fry and something everyone should have in their lives. Chay, of course, simply means vegetarian/vegan, so you get an assortment of fresh veggies and marinated tofu, rounding out the meal. My tip? Dump the whole container of chili oil in and give it a good stir, to coat. THAT right there is the best takeout meal I've had in a long time.

Yelp
Been eating here for years. It's clean, consistent, and flippin' delicious. The folks who work there are always so kind.

Yelp
Adding an administrative fee on the bill for tips to staff and then calculating tax on top of the fee to, that is wrong

Yelp
We love this unique local spot for tasty Vietnamese food. When we lived closer, we would order delivery, but now we have to drive in from our of town. Our favorite entree is #96 Hu Tieu Ap Chao. It has pan fried noodles, three kinds of meat, and loads of veggies. Be sure to ask for their chili paste if you like spicy.

Yelp
I was at the laundromat next door and I needed to break a $20 and the rude woman working the morning shift counter wouldn't give me change and when I tried to buy a sauce or something cheap she said no so I was forced to buy a $3 soda. Poor attitude, business looked abandoned, wouldn't ever go in here anyway from how pobre the sign looks but now it's damn this place.

Yelp
TL;DR. We waited about 45 min for our food to be served and almost got smoked out in the meantime. Tried this place as it was the only pho open in the vicinity after 9pm on a Sunday. We were seated promptly after arriving at 9:10. The restaurant was pretty full. One server brought menus and, before we even picked them up, asked "Drink?" I would have liked a sec to look at the menu and see what my drink options were, but my partner just said "Hot Tea, I guess?" Then I said, "Oh, sure that sounds good, I'll have tea, too." "Two hot teas?" Without thinking that sounded strange, since we're two people who both just ordered tea, we said yes. Moments later, out come two full sized pots of tea filled to the brim (enough for 4-6 people). I felt like that was a little silly; any common sense server would bring one pot and two cups. Oh well. We later joked they brought us all that tea to keep us busy while we waited for our food. We placed our food order around 9:17pm. Two bowls of beef pho and a fresh shrimp spring roll appetizer. My partner asked the second server if they by any chance have beef tendon, as he didn't see it on the menu. She didn't understand. He repeated it. She said, yes it has beef. I repeated it. She still didn't understand. Oh well. About 5 min later all our pho fixings (sprouts, basil, lime, jalapeรฑos) arrive. Then that's it. For 45 minutes, we wait, hungry. We eat all our raw bean sprouts. We watch them place about 10 take-out orders out for pickup, most before the customers arrive. Seems they should try and prioritize dine-in tickets a little better. We watch three tables slowly get served--all arrived before us. Seems they were backed up. By the way, the kitchen ventilation is horrible. One table ordered several sautรฉed dishes, and the entire restaurant became smoky from the cooking fumes. Like visibly. My throat started getting itchy and irritated from the smoke. Finally, after all that time, my partner approaches the counter to ask where our food is. They never came to check on us. Seems they lost our order. They made it a priority. Finally, at a few minutes to 10pm (closing time), we are served. The food itself was decent. The broth had good flavor, but the veggies didn't taste quite right. Probably a 3 star meal that could be bumped up to 4 if the service experience and atmosphere were good. They didn't deduct anything off the bill for losing our ticket and making us wait forever. Not even one of the extra teas. Doubt we'll return.

Yelp
I was feeling sick and thought something warm would help me. I decided to try this place and it was amazing. The price wasnt expensive and the quality was great. It was flavorful and when I got it delivered it was still warm and came with everything and extra. I would recommend this spot to many others and this will now be my go to pho spot

Darby L.

Yelp
the food is ok. location is very convenient for me and I get takeout from here once in a while. I usually get one of the chicken plates with egg rolls or dumplings. not the best i've had, but it's more than just edible.

Molly D.

Yelp
Horrible. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES OR DIETARY RESTRICTIONS. Their menu is not even listing the accurate ingredients. The vegetarian menu is a lie. Everything has some kind of oyster sauce is what I learned today.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Great for takeout. Large menu with a lot of options. I've even eating Hai Ky since I was in college circa 2009. Consistently good for over a decade
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
Nah, man. Ordered from Hai Ky on UberEats as they had a B1G1 promotion. It's my mistake, but I meant to order 2 chicken vermicelli plates. I accidentally clicked pork, so when I switched to chicken I guess I switched to chicken fried rice. They list their entire menu with #'s, so my receipt shows "#50 chicken" which I thought was vermicelli. When I got the order, I called the restaurant to complain they sent the wrong thing. Again, it turns out it's my fault, but this is an awful way to list your menu. I actually wasn't that mad as I don't mind fried rice, and it was a big portion. Unfortunately it had like no flavor. Clumps of rice had butter on it, some clumps had soy sauce I guess? Chicken had absolutely no flavor. And then there were pieces of onion thrown in? Didn't see any eggs in the dish nor the vegetables like peas or carrots I'd expect. Pretty disappointing. But bright side, big portions?

Linsie W.

Yelp
I wouldn't say that this is the best or most authentic Vietnamese place I've been to. Service was fast but the food just wasn't on par with other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. They didn't get my order correct and didn't have the sauce that normally goes with a vermicelli bowl. I had to ask for the sauce and when i did, they game me straight up fish sauce. Their stir fry noodle options are a little better and their spring rolls were ok. Nothing I was overly enthusiastic about. Probably won't be going again unfortunately.

Yelp
I used to enjoy Vietnamese food at Hai Ky several years ago however this review is only for the Grubhub+ delivery meal I just had. I ordered #104 Spicy Hai Tofu and some pork dumplings and sadly I was disappointed in the entire order. The Tofu dish was quite bland, almost tasteless. It was as if there was some kind of sauce that should have been in the noodles, tofu and veggies but I only detected a little bit of something in one corner, the rest of the healthy portion of food was quite disappointing. Plus the dumplings were limp and almost room temperature. I don't know if this meal actually came from Hai Ky or from a commercial kitchen set up for delivery but either way I am highly unlikely to repeat the experience. This is a shame because their Pho and Bun bowls were always enjoyable in the past.

Courtney B.

Yelp
The place was somewhat busy, we were treated right away. Not a lot of seating so maybe expect a wait when it is busy. The don't have fountain drinks but instead opt for can sodas. Which I don't mind. We got the fried cream cheese Rangoons. Which only had cream cheese in them. One of them had chives I believe and then one had no cream cheese at all which was a bit disappointing. The pork and shrimp egg rolls are delicious tho. Packed with flavor and fried perfect. The sate beef didn't have the most flavor but I really enjoyed it. Be warned the meat is not soft but I believe it was chuck roast meat possibly. The rice was however was cooked to perfection.

Tyler W.

Yelp
Sesame Chicken was the most vile inedible thing in the city of Austin. Pretty clear most of the "chicken" was chicken feet rather than breast or thigh. It was the most horrid thing I've ever attempted to eat.
google avatar

Jinhyung K.

Yelp
It was just okay. Nothing too special here. The crab ragoons were sad looking. The food took some time to come out even though we were basically the only ones there. They were dumpling shaped and barely had any cream cheese in some. Ordered the Pho Dac Biet which was decent. Darker and on the saltier side. Just your basic pho/viet joint.

James L.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this place. Other than the pho, most of the food didn't seem to be Vietnamese (pad Thai and baos?). I tried the pork belly, mainly because I've never seen pork belly on the menu of a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston. It has a broth like a soup. It was very sweet, very salty, and, because it was pork belly, richly fat. I think I liked it, but I don't think I'd ever order it again. It was just too sweet and salty. I also didn't care for the hard boiled egg. Maybe I would like it better if the egg had been soft boiled with a creamy, runny yolk like in Ramen, which also happens to be rich in fat. Because it has pork belly lol. Service was friendly and the ambiance was strip center.

Tic T.

Yelp
The tofu here is offensive, its cut way too thin and tastes dried out and rubbery as if it were fried days in advance. I've eaten at Hai Ky many times throughout the years and for the most part its pretty consistent. I have noticed the quality slumping in recent years but it's still always been passable. However tonight's overcooked vermicelli, overcooked broccoli, lack of sauce, and the tofu(that may be the worst in austin), makes this place a pass. It's a shame because I did really like this place at one point.

Camille G.

Yelp
This place is so delicious. I've been ordering from here for three years and I've never had a bad meal. I usually get the chopped egg roll pork vermicelli and it's amazing. I usually only do take out but the food is always fresh and hot. The people who work there are really nice too. Not too expensive and you get a great portion!

Yelp
Their pho is absolutely delicious! It's a great surprise to find such a wonderful place.

Yelp
Just ordered the #76 beef Sichuan and oh my gosh, it was the best I've had in a very long time!! I requested extra crispy tofu to be added and it was quite impressive. We're definitely ordering more!
google avatar

Jade K.

Yelp
Saw the bad reviews but figured people are not used to hole in the wall Vietnamese spots here or actually been to a real Chinatown. I came from vegas where pho is extremely popular and we have so many. I know a good pho by its broth and I ordered one here. Huge portion, not stingy, $10.50 for pho. Pho no meat $7.50!! The chicken stir fry dish was good too $12.50 . For the price point especially here in austin is too good to be true. I'm half Asian and all I ate was Asian food in vegas, so stop complaining about every little thing and actually comment on the taste of the food and the prices.

Yelp
Sesame chicken for lunch. It's a busy place for lunch so go early to get a table. Don't let the exterior keep you from dining here. The service is quick and the food it good. Lots of flavor in my sesame chicken. I thought the rice could have been less dry, but it wasn't bad. A little sauce helped it a lot. Great for dinner if you're in a rush.

Yelp
We haven't been here in several years because it's on the opposite side of the city. It didn't disappoint. I had the Spicy Hai Chicken Noodles ($11.50). It was delicious. The portion was big enough to feed two people. I brought the leftovers home. My partner had the Pho Tai ($10). He loved his meal too. Actually ate all of it. The place is small, but they have managed to space the tables far enough apart to make us feel comfortable and safe. Masks are required of all patrons whether dining in or take out. Staff wore masks, sanitizer was made available, and tables were sanitized between guests.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place especially as it's local and serves one of my favorite cuisines. We wanted to get Pho on a Sunday morning after a night out and thought to try this place based on a friend's recommendation. She had only tried their stir fry before and really liked it so we figured we'd give it a shot. There was no wait for a table of 7 of us which was great. Right away, we could tell the restaurant lacked authenticity. The menus only had english, which was fine except if the translations had been correct. There was an item listed "Spicy Beef Soup" which most of us thought was Bun Bo Hue, a staple in many vietnamese restaurants. But when we asked, no one in the place knew what BBH was or if "Spicy Beef Soup" was indeed BBH. When we asked what the item was, we were told it had thicker noodles, a spicy broth, and various cuts of meat - WHICH sounds like what BBH was. When our bowls came out, we were all extremely disappointed. It looked and tasted like a bowl of pho with a bit of of a chili mix in it. The broth had no flavor. The meat was dry even when submerged in broth. The noodles were over cooked. We also got bowls of pho to try a variety and even the pho was barely eaten into by the end of lunch. Aside from the subpar food, the wait staff may need a bit more training. On more than one occasion, they spilled broth when bringing out our bowls. I understand it's filled high with broth and it could be difficult to balance, but it can be a huge mess if it did spill. AND IT DID. One of the staff members spilled the broth onto us as she placed it in front of my friend and did not even notice. We wanted to be polite and give her the benefit of the doubt that she was just new to say anything. the food is okay. service is okay. this place is okay.

Yelp
I stopped in here for lunch with some co-workers last week. One of the guys with us says this is his favorite place right now and he has been working his way through the menu. Needless to say I was intrigued and definitely up to try a new place! The spot is small and the parking lot can be kind of busy. It was around noon on Monday but there were a few open tables so we sat down right away. One of my go to items at any Vietnamese restaurant is the charcoal pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl. The vermicelli was good. I prefer more sauce than what was provided. Next time I come back I will ask for more. The price was inexpensive... it was like fast food prices or cheaper. Hai Ky is definitely an A-Ok place to stop for an inexpensive meal.

Yelp
meh, i've experienced better - also, it's been cheaper, and more filling Hai Ky is nearby my work so it works if you're craving basic mall-style asian food, but even for that it's a bit more expensive than it should be. It's not super good or fresh, really just pretty average. I'd prefer going to pollo rico next door, or 888 down the road

Yelp
Very consistent with strong service. I've never had a bad experience there. I really like their vermicelli!

Yelp
My Hai Ky order is forever burned in my mind: #96, all chicken. My friend brought me here really hyping it up. I thought surely, I've had good Vietnamese food before, how will this be different? The #96 takes those square noodles and pan fries them tops and bottoms. So imagine this. Perfect veggies. Perfect chicken. Rolling into a big of a crunchy but soft noodle. Does any thing sound better than that? NO. I took a picture of the noodles so I can go around asking my friends who know how to cook to make them for me. I've never seen them cooked like this, or so deliciously, before. Do give this place a try!

Yelp
I think the soup for the noodles is artificially made. We had two pho orders yesterday, both were so salty that we had to dump the soup for the noodles only. Eventually, we had to get up twice midnight just for for water. Not recommended

Yelp
Used to come here regularly many years ago, when I lived down South. Came back for the first time in a long while and the food is hardly recognizable. I ordered Vermicelli with egg roll. The egg rolls that came in the dish were borderline rotten. Well past expired. The type of food you might find in the garbage the following day after a restaurant threw out their food. I threw the egg rolls out and ate the remainder of the dish, but still not fresh. Woke up with stomach problems the following day. Avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
So I been looking for good authentic Vietnamese/ pho restaurant since moving to town. My Lyft driver made the recommendation and told me that this was one of the best places in town. I'm glad i took her recommendation. Their Pho broth has flavor and isnt too salty. Their egg rolls are huge and great with a side of nuoc mam (fish sauce). 10/10 will be back!

Yelp
I am a huge fan of pad Thai and this place really nailed it! It was delicious! I can't say much about the service because I ordered it to go but it was really good! Thanks!

Yelp
Amazingly clean food! The pho was very authentic, very much like ones I've had in Chinatown in other big cities. Arrived piping hot on a cold day when I wasn't feeling well, with the beef raw like it should be (cooks immediately when you drop it into the broth). Very clean and flavorful, not oily like some other places can be. The spring rolls were pretty good, maybe not my all-time favorite. Nothing to complain about with plenty of nice mint leaves. Happy to find a great new Pho place in town. Delivery was fast and on time. Lastly, the food is way better than it looks in the photos. Made me a little hesitant at first, so glad I gave it a shot. I'd say check out the photos on GrubHub instead. Enjoy!

Yelp
The Vietnamese coffee was yummy but not $4 yummy. If you're in Austin give this local spot some attention! They seem pretty busy throughout the day ! They have art all over the walls which ofc the Houstonian appreciates and it makes for a great waiting area post covid. Neat and tidy, very organized with all their to go orders. I haven't gotten their food yet but It smelled pretty good!!! High Key could potentially shmack hehe #wordplay #shmakcityotw

Yelp
I always seem to want a bowl of pho after flying. So naturally I Yelped the closest pho places near AUS, and I randomly picked one because I didn't think I could make a bad choice. Well, I guess I thought wrong. This place was not good. The summer rolls were fine, but the pho was ultra bland. Also they use lemons instead of limes in their veggie plate. Lolwut. I'm not really sure Vietnamese people actually work in the kitchen. Are they even Asian??

Yelp
I haven't been here in over 10 years because the last time I ate here, it was pretty bad. My noodle soup had no flavor, it was bland. Came back last weekend at a friend's recommendation and because we were in the area. I ordered pho because I wanted a soup, it was alright, wasn't bad or amazing. The four stars is based on tasting my friend's combination pan-fried flat rice noodles. It was seasoned well, good size portion. I will be coming back to try that next time an update my review. Service was a little slow for sat lunch crowd. The restaurant wasn't full.

Yelp
I'm not very keen on writing negative reviews. Sadly, our food was so bad that I feel that I need to warn people. We used to love this place. Delivery via GrubHub on 4/12/20 was so bad that we won't be returning/ordering delivery from Hai Ky again. Food had a burnt taste which made it inedible. The smell lingered until we opened doors and lit candles. Veggies were overcooked and I would describe the color palate as a variety of grays. Even the broccoli looked gray. $60 worth of food got tossed. It was that bad. Wish I could give them zero stars.

Yelp
I ordered the Pho Dac Biet. It wasn't anything special, so I wouldn't come back since I have gone to better spots in Austin, but I'm glad to have given the place a try!

Yelp
The food is so yummy!!! It is super fresh, they give you tons of food, amazing flavor, and it's not drowning in sauce. The ratios were perfect. Highly recommend this place!
