New Orleans Restaurants With Heated Patios for Winter Dining | Eater New Orleans

"Haiku Sushi on Magazine Street warms up diners two ways during winter — with its excellent ramen, and its lovely (heated) patio. Open daily, the covered patio outfitted with ceiling heaters is a great destination for lunch or dinner and Haiku’s extensive menu of rolls, sashimi, dumplings, and soups." - Clair Lorell

The food was great! The drink menu has great options and the cocktails were really pretty and delicious. The service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back!

Google
We had a quick dinner at Haiku Sushi. It's a nice restaurant with quick service. Their outside seating area is very cozy for the warmer season. The rolls were unfortunately just okay, but the ramen was very tasty. I would return for more of that!

Came in midday to have some sushi with my partner and it was the perfect setting. Prices were great. All the ingredients were very fresh! Definitely check out the happy hour, squid salad, and the hand rolls!

Lillian was a great waitress. We sat outside for dinner and it was very pleasant. Spicy hand roll, Sushi- rainbow Roll, squid Steak - super delicious, seafood stir fried udon noodles were all so perfect. Lots of make it your own options for ramen, really loved that!! Top ratings and very authentic. Pricing was very decent!! Highly recommend!!

Google
…It’s been awhile since I’ve visited this place and it has changed dramatically. I thought I would take a break from studying and treat myself. The customer service was subpar and unwelcoming, unfortunately. The food tastes completely different from my prior experiences. I would frequent this spot and support it wholeheartedly. Tchoupitoulas roll was extremely bland and halfway fried. I mean, I don’t know what’s the deal. Try if you will, you may like it. First time that I’ve been in a minute and it was my last time going.

Google
I’d heard good things about this spot and had seen such pretty pictures I had to stop in, however the food was just okay, nicely presented, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was so warm and cozy, though the service was a little less so. Everyone has their days though, truthfully I was more let down by the food itself. The yellowtail jalapeño appetizer was fine, but the rest honestly lacked flavor and didn’t taste very fresh. So although it’s not a bad spot, there are definitely better in the city around the same price point.

Google
Wow what a find this place was. The food is superb and the service is excellent, the lady who runs the place is so sweet and inviting and funny. The place is beautiful and has a very chill vibe really cool relaxing music playing. Located in an upbeat lively spot on Magazine. I loved it and will be back soon for more. I'll definitely be in the outdoor section when the weather changes and enjoying Nola with some delicious food and Sake drinks.

Google
I wanted to visit Haiku a second time before writing a review, the first time to try the sushi and the second to try other things on the menu. The sushi rolls are made very well with fresh ingredients, and the ramen and appetizers I tried were very flavorful. This restaurant also has great service and a really great outdoor patio. I sat indoors the on my second visit and the atmosphere inside was nice, too. If you're jonesing for Japanese food, this is a great location to have many options for dining.

Yelp
My review as a haiku: Shared sushi and joy, Patio adds to the charm, Tasty bites, five stars!

Yelp
I got takeout at Haiku after a bad day. The fried rice was tasty... although I admit it didn't have enough egg for me. Couldn't find any in there actually? Perhaps they though I was vegan since I'd ordered the vegetable version. I ended up scrambling and and adding some of my own which was an easy fix. The crunchy roll was nice and plump. It was a bit too fishy for me... crab salad is usually milder, but it had great texture so I did finish it. Overall rating. Rice: 4.5 stars. Crunchy roll: 3 stars.

Matt W.

Yelp
A notch above grocery store sushi. Was not bad per se, but certainly not memorable or beyond the basic level of quality. I'd consider it again for a generic sushi craving.

Yelp
I highly recommend Haiku Sushi if you want great sushi woth simple surroundings. The sushi rolls were fantastic. In addition to the rolls I photographed, we also ordered the fried calamari roll, which was yum in the tum. Another great thing about Haiku is that they have a full bar, whom is always a plus. The service was very attentive and friendly. The ambiance is definitely lacking, but the food and the cocktails make up for it. I highly recommend Haiku sushi for a low key, but delicious dinner.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and our local friends said this is the best sushi around. Fortunately we were already in the area and it fit the quick bite we were searching for today. You have to find street parking nearby which shouldn't be the biggest issue. There's a really nice outdoor patio eating area which looks modern then there's a very traditional Japanese decor interior. I ordered the G6 which is everything I hoped it would be in flavor. My ol' lady ordered the white ninja and spicy tuna. The spicy tuna was an OK filler but the ninja stood out. The Wasabi sauce really creeps up on you and takes a solid 15 seconds before you notice it. Be warned that it has some serious bite! I loved it and highly recommend it. Just be warned because I don't want to see any complaints about it if that's not your speed. I'm sure there are easier training wheel type rolls for the weak at heart lol.. The service could've been a lot better tbh.. the lady didn't really check on us and the fried rice that we ordered literally came after all of our rolls were consumed. Overall it was a good experience that I'd suggest giving this place a try. Everything seemed pretty fresh too,

Yelp
Sometimes, you're craving a basic avocado cucumber roll... I find myself in this situation often and Haiku is one of those places we hit up from time to time. They do not have creative rolls for those of us who don't eat fish, nor does it appear that they have any dedicated vegan options on the menu. Normally I'd just give a basic menu like this three stars. Like yeah, you can get an avo/cuc roll at any sushi joint... but the waitress we had here the other night was so lovely, I can't leave this review at a mere "OK" and feel right about it. I had asked for sesame seeds on my roll (not sure why these days it's not standard in NOLA, but unless you ask, you shall not receive) and she apologized profusely for forgetting and then brought me a little bowl full of them. And she was generally just so nice and attentive. I really appreciate perfect service! I also really love their deep front patio, perfect for nice weather evenings and the inside has nice ambience as well. And they have prosecco that's cold and by the mini bottle.

Yelp
I went in one night just picking up something I ordered to go and there was a private party for a club of some kind and they were all doing karaoke. I ended up getting invited to join them and it was pretty amazing! The sushi itself was just regular for me to be honest. I feel like you can only get a good taste when it's prepared fresh and enjoyed as close to being prepared as possible. So I can't leave more than 3 for the taste. The surprise of the night joining the party made this the most memorable experience for me. The service was not really anything I could comment on cos the people who had the party were taking care of everything for me. It was pretty unforgettable. Seems like a nice place beyond that though. I never went back cos the taste and quality just didn't hit.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service was good. Smaller indoor space, more space outdoors but so cute and yummy!!

Yelp
My experience here was interesting. The place is very clean & the food is good. However, I will note that the food that I received was completely different from what I ordered. I ordered a teriyaki chicken bento box with a substitution for the California roll with a crunchy roll. When the bento box came out I was given a chicken katsu with a California roll. I didn't complain or tell the waiter because everyone else in my group had already gotten their food and begun eating so I didn't want to delay the group additionally. There was also no one else in the restaurant when my group sat down except for workers. The food given to me was still good though just not what I ordered! Something that made it even more odd was that when I paid the bill it had exactly what I ordered from the beginning! The waiter was very nice it was just a weird experience.

Yelp
Hadn't been to Haiku in so long and glad I did! The dirty martini was really good and strong. For appetizer we got the fried calamari and it was really yummy. For my meal I had 2 hand rolls - Hello Kitty and Crunchy. Both were delicious. Service was great too and nice ambiance on the front patio.

Yelp
My wife and I were craving some ramen and our favorite ramen shop was closed so we tried out this place. It was actually really good (Tonkotsu). We'll have to come back to check out the sushi, they looked good as well.
google avatar

Yelp
This place might be under the same management of Royal Sushi because the menu is the same. Which is fine to me because I loved Royal Sushi. Haiku Sushi is a lot more intimate though. Customer service was great too. I forgot my to go plate and our server came running out the establishment to bring it to me. Now THAT'S going above and beyond. Sushi was delicious just like Royal Sushi's is.
google avatar

Yelp
Well the Ramen was delicious!! But when I couldn't finish it all ( b cause we over ordered sushi ) I asked for a to-go bowl. They refused. So I added that I'd be happy to pay for the to-go container. But No.! ! the waitress seemed sheepishly embarrassed by the management response. She brought me some small to-go cups to use. It took 4 cups to hold the ramen soup. I just thought that was strange. Waitress was so sweet. Management Not so much.
google avatar

Nala L.

Yelp
The smell of the ramen was very promising. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with shrimp to go. The broth alone was good and had a medium level of spice / heat. The shrimp was well cooked and the egg was nicely boiled. However , the ramen noodles themselves were horrible. They had the consistency of the noodles one gets at a hibachi restaurant. Very off putting. It's a hole in the wall type of bar yet staple place on magazine street. Would not come again.

Edgar A.

Yelp
0 stars if i could. I ordered $100 worth of sushi delivery. Asked the driver to request extra soy sauce they said I did not pay for extra soy sauce. Ridiculous. Spoke to manager and said they dont send more soy sauce unless you pay for it. This is wild.

Yelp
A friend suggested this place and I decided to check it after driving past it multiple times. I decided to give it a go for lunch on a Thursday and I must admit it was basically empty. You have an option to sit inside or outside. I decided to sit outside a large the weather was really good. The server brought us waters and menus quite quickly and my oh my was there so many options. They have a great lunch special bento box which consists of sushi, noodles, soup or salad. I didn't order the special but I did see another table order it and it was quite a decent size. Looked good! I decided to do el la carte and ordered the Tom yum soup and calamari as an appetizer. The soup was flavorful and the calamari delicious. My only complaint is that they don't give you much of the calamari. The dipping sauce that accompanied the calamari was a hit as well. For entrees we had the sex and the city sushi roll as well as the salmon Californian rolls. The sex and the city roll was so good. The other one was ok. Nothing to brag about really. The sushi tasted fresh and was a good size. They also have the option of regular soy sauce and reduced sodium soy sauce. Their signature sushi rolls are the way too go. However, I did notice that many of them contained mango? I am not sure why, but if you are not a mango fan, you might want to ask them to remove it. Another shout out is that service is super fast. So if you need a quick meal before going back to the office, then this place won't disappoint I would definitely be back to try the lunch special!

Yelp
I love this hole in the wall sushi spot. I had been following them on social media and finally decided to give them a try. My friend and I decided to give it a try Saturday around 5pm. Upon arrival hostess sat us immediately. Within a few min our drinks and appetizers came out. The gyoza was very good. Our food came out within 15 min. Not bat at all. Service and food were amazing. Food was very fresh . The waitress was very attentive, patient . I love that they have the seating just overlooking the people that are passing by but there is shade covering you . Overall the food, service, price point was great! I will def be back

Yelp
My partner and I came here for Sunday dinner and it was amazing! I worked at a sushi place for a while so I know what to look for. Everything we had was fresh and service was fast. I loved it so much I came back for lunch! There were many specialty rolls that looked good from the pics that I want to try soon.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place. I did love this place. But then I got home and found a word in the chicken fried rice I had taken to go. And yes it definitely came from the restaurant bc this was only like 15 minutes after we got home. The place is so cute. Way more seating than you think just seeing the small restaurant front on Magazine. The outside was packed but it was hot so we wanted to sit inside anyway. Service was fast and our waitress was so nice. My husband got 3 sushi rolls and loved all of them. I got the chicken fried rice and loved it. They serve it in this dome shape that helps keep all the rice hot for much longer as you eat it. The best thing was the price. It seemed like we got so much food for just over $30. I wanted to give it more stars so bad but I mean I just can't overlook the worm.

Yelp
The highlight of Haiku's menu is their special rolls - the Twister Roll was by far my favorite item ordered. I also enjoyed the spicy tuna roll and miso soup. But the other items we had, like the veggie spring rolls and shrimp dumplings, lacked flavor. The edamame appetizer didn't even have salt on it. We went for coolinary, which was a great deal (5 courses), but the food pacing was very quick and the service was rushed. No more than 10 minutes after our entrees were delivered, we were asked if we wanted a box for our leftovers. The menu has such a wide selection that I'm willing to go again to try other items, but won't be hurrying back.

Clare B.

Yelp
Love this place! Very consistent food! Their lunch specials are amazing. Highly recommend for a chill sushi place

Yelp
I have been to this location many times under different restaurants. This was my first visit to this location as a Japanese restaurant. They decorated the restaurant nicely. They have a very nice patio, which is away from street noise and output. The wait staff is extremely nice, polite, and prompt. They have a very wide variety of choices, a large menu to please almost everyone. The food was good with minor exceptions. Background techno music was uncomfortable. Who chooses background music for restaurants?

Yelp
Searched for a good sushi spot for months after I moved to New Orleans, and finally stumbled on Haiku. In my opinion, it's the best affordable sushi in the city. Always super fresh, and comes out very quickly even when it's busy! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Theresa B.

Yelp
Haiku is an eat-in sushi restaurant, though it's stood out to me as my go-to sushi delivery spot, which I had a *really* hard time finding when I first moved to New Orleans. Available on DoorDash or Uber Eats, Haiku's sushi tastes delicious even when you're eating it at home. Fish tastes fresh (which surprisingly I've had an issue with at other sushi spots out here), and you can't really go wrong with any of their rolls. Price isn't bad for the quality you're getting. My usual order is yellowtail nigiri and squid nigiri with a tempura shrimp roll and a crunchy roll--these are all around $5-7 each, which I think is fair.
google avatar

Jack J.

Yelp
Haiku is a favorite town on Maui and now a favorite sushi bar in New Orleans. This is a hidden gem off the beaten path. We didn't expect to have sushi while in New Orleans but the name Haiku is a town name near our home and caught our eye. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for fresh sushi.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent sushi spot on Magazine street! They're quick and efficient and perfect for a casual lunch date. The takeout is timely and staff is friendly. My pick is the hello kitty handroll- snow crab, coconut shrimp, and avocado in soy wrap!
google avatar

Michele N.

Yelp
My 3 time here and it's taken me this long to write a review ooopsie. I always order the hello kitty hand roll with a side of eel sauce. The boyfriend always order a bowl of ramen and I'll steal a couple of bites from it. The bowl is huge and broth flavorful! We've typically order another roll that doesn't include avocado (since he is allergic it). Two separate occasions, it had avocado in it. I've even pointed it out to our server that the description on the menu is either wrong or the chef is adding avocado to every roll. They were nice enough to remake but it shouldn't have happen on two different occasion. Service is always great here. I've never sat inside so I wouldn't be able to say how it looks like or the vibe for that but we do enjoy their cover patio area with space heaters.

Yelp
On a chilly, rainy night what could be better than a hot bowl of ramen?! I initially went to my go to spot to get takeout but the whole block was dark..im guessing there was a good ole Nola power outage. As I took the sad stroll down Magazine, this place had a flashing ramen sign so I figured why not. My first thought was to get it to go..being covid season AND I still dont have a proper ramen bowl at home. Ate my last one out of a mixing bowl..dont judge me. Lol. Anywho..the place was fairly empty and all covid regulations were in full force so I decided to dine in. They have an outdoor seating area with heaters but it was too chilly and rainy so I took a table inside. Only 1 other table of 2 was seated on the other side of restaurant which eased my comfort level a bit. I ordered the ramen with pork and it came out really quickly. Everything was good except the fish cake...im just not a fan so I should have probably left that out. The noodles werent the best I have ever had but they did compliment everything well. They offer a nice selection of sushi as well so I would like to visit again to try a few more items. Friendly and helpful wait staff.

Yelp
The service, food, and prices are always great! I love this quiet little gem tucked on Magazine St. We always get the puff daddy, it has fabulous textures and flavor. It is easily one of my favorite rolls. The tonkotsu ramen isn't my favorite but is pretty filling and the pork I tender and juicy as it should be. We have tried a lot of their menu and enjoyed it all. We initially came here since they were one of few places open quickly after Hurricane Ida. We love supporting business that support their community!
google avatar

Camly T.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times. I like their shaded outdoor porch seating. I tried their spicy miso garlic edamame last time, and it was tasty. If you like strong flavors, go for it. I think their sushi is pretty good. I've enjoyed all the rolls I've gotten in the. The most recent were the spicy tuna and fresh salmon rolls. Service has always been great

Pat R.

Yelp
5 Star!! New favorite place! Highly recommend! The King cake roll is so different and delicious! The atmosphere is super nice! Also, so clean!
google avatar

Yelp
Haiku my lovely, that's for having a great COOLinary experience! Quaint little spot on magazine right before your cross over to Napoleon. This restaurant truly has a great selection, location, and atmosphere. What drew us here is their coolinary 6 course dinner experience! My adventure started off with their miso soup! Steammming hot but so good, also calamari crispy, yummy, get it. Followed by that was crunchy roll and crouching tiger. So the crunchy roll was crispy and to the point, the crouching tiger was a good surprise that fish was so fresh definitely. got some ramen which was crazy good and spicy! Then finished with fried cheesecake!!! All in all def. great place !
google avatar

Patricia R.

Yelp
Yeeeessss! A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to find delish sushi near home, and now I've found some super close to my office. Haiku, you complete me! I called in my order and it was ready about 20 minutes later. My order was fresh, exactly as ordered, and so tasty! I had a crouching tiger roll, and it pounced right into my mouth! Seriously - it didn't last long on the plate. It was shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado, tuna tataki, spicy mayo, ponzu sauce and scallions. I think the man who handed my order over was the owner. Very kind, upbeat guy. Give them a try y'all! #yelplove

Yelp
They are little slow in serving but I think they have best sushi in town. Also I loved the warmth of the place and plum wine they serve.

Yelp
My son was craving ramen and we were in the vicinity, so we decided to try this place out. Along with ramen, we tried some of their other appetizers which the fried calamari was a big hit because it resembled chicken sticks and my two year old was enjoying herself with them. We've also tried the fried gyoza which is about the same as all other restaurants, and a Twister roll which was pretty messy (hence the name), but tasty. Upon eating the ramen, the overall presentation was nice, and the noodles had a nice chew to them. However, I did find the broth to be a bit salty for my liking. My son wanted to try chicken with his ramen, but agreed that he should have stayed with pork for the next go around. The overall experience here was good which the waitress took care of us and provided anything we needed. We'd definitely come back if we are in the mood for some sushi and calamari!

Vegan C.

Yelp
Besides the big language barrier to ordering....went with a friend and we thought we would both give this place a second try. We specified vegan and gluten free for us both and they just didn't understand, so had to keep fixing food items. Menu items need more info added for VG, GF etc....the stir fry was small and had 2 vegetables, lacking color and much flavor. Just bad all around. Don't recommend.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
I've order take out from here quite a few times now and the food never disappoints. Fresh, great quality, great taste. Great prices as well. All or the sushi, soups, and ramen we've had have been great!
google avatar

Cara M.

Yelp
A liitle gem on Magazine Street. They have the best wonton soup ever. Sitting outside on their patio is so relaxing and the food is delicious.
google avatar

Elenora B.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Haiku forever and I'm so so glad I finally did! Their sushi was so fresh and their appetizers were amazing. My absolute favorite dish was their calamari! I find that fried calamari appetizers at Japanese restaurants can be chewy and difficult to eat, but the calamari here was so tender and crispy, and I can't forget to mention how good their dipping sauce was. I went for lunch and I found that they had super reasonable lunch deals and their regular menu was not pricy at all for what you get. Their hibachi lunch prices were at most $12 and I found their 2 and 3 lunch roll combos to be a great deal as well! I also really enjoyed their cute outdoor seating area and the excellent service. I look forward to going back to try their special rolls and hibachi!
google avatar

Windsor S.

Yelp
It's rare I write 5 star reviews but this place deserves it. My server, Al, was super nice, courteous and very knowledgeable of the menu. He recommended the haiku roll and shrimp fried rice and I couldn't have chosen better. It was my first time trying raw sushi and it tasted better than any cooked I've ever had before. Beautiful little hole in the wall and definitely putting this at the top of my list for sushi places in New Orleans.
google avatar

Yelp
Pandemic update: I've been craving some sushi and since I was feeding one of my nieces after she helped all day with a project around the house, I owed her! Ordering from the app on their website is really easy and more $ stays with them that way. We got a crab salad, a cucumber tuna salad, edamame, veggie gyoza, miso, and a couple of rolls. Everything was packaged really well and it was all delicious. The gyoza was new to my niece and she really liked them. The cucumber tuna salad was just what I needed. While I did takeout but they are dining in on their patio and probably inside. They have hand sanitizer as you walk in and pickups at are the front, in the bar area so you're not in the actual eating area which I like. They have signage which makes it clear which way to go. Staff was all masked and since I paid online there was very little contact when I picked up.
google avatar

Haile H.

Yelp
Recently went here and I enjoyed my experience. The restaurant is cute and quiet. I got the spicy chicken tonkotsu ramen and spicy hamachi hand roll. The ramen was good but a tad too salty. If the chill on the salt it could be really good. No complaints about the hand roll. That was my first time having one and it was delicious

Catherine S.

Yelp
Service was extremely fast. Salmon fried rice was delicious as was the crouching tiger roll pictured.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Great neighborhood sushi spot with a covered patio. Also situated in a great spot on magazine

Ali B.

Yelp
The most welcoming business! We were traveling from out of town with my service animal. The friendly staff and manager at Haiku understood the service animal regulations and welcomed us in. On top of that, the food was delicious and the wait staff was top notch. It was packed and they brought our food out so quickly. Highly recommend for sushi!

Naomi S.

Yelp
Great date spot and fantastic sushi. There's indoor and outdoor seating for when the Nola heat is too much. I highly recommend the Hello Kitty Roll.

Kayla M.

Yelp
Authentic flavor, nice bang for the buck. Lunch combos are very filling. The sushi here is fantastic!
google avatar

Daphne A.

Yelp
The food was delicious and pretty affordable! It had plenty of seating, looked very clean, and the staff were nice. I felt bad for the waitress who was the only one waiting tables during a lunch rush. This is a great place to go for lunch but I'm definitely coming back to try their dinner and great sake offerings.
google avatar

Beatrice B.

Yelp
They have delicious fried dumplings. We were quickly seated and the waitresses are always so kind and accommodating. Looking forward to our next visit!

Yelp
Good sushi for NOLA! Only have ordered to go and could be a bit pricey. The service to checkout is always interesting as someone always has a problem because the order is wrong and holds up everyone else. Cool vibe outside.
