9 Best New Restaurants in Asheville Right Now | Eater Carolinas

"A moment of silence for Tastee Diner, the gritty, tenacious 80-year-old institution in West Asheville, last owned by chef Steven Goff, who in September 2024 bid a simultaneously reluctant and relieved farewell to the business and Western North Carolina. In a comeback for the ages, Tastee general manager Kelly Gable picked up the ball and threw a Hail Mary, the name she chose for the everything-old-is-new-again restaurant she opened on January 29, 2025. The cocktail list has been refreshed, a new lunch/dinner menu rolled out, eight decades of grease scraped off the walls and replaced with forever young images of millennial icons — Britney, Spice Girls, Whitney, Shania, and more — collaged on tables. The two-patty smash burger all the way is the greasy queen; the Cubano, French dip, Brussels Josepine, and beef poutine are early hits." - Kay West

Burgers are great...don't change your bun!! Get some raw onions and jalapeños, haha. Service I gave a 5, however the only service is bringing you the food, with that said staff was nice and welcoming. Order at the bar...bus your table, but I'm ok with that. They have their own flair...go check them out.

My wife and I came here on a recent trip to Asheville off a recommendation from a friend, we were not disappointed. We ordered two different types of burgers and the sauce flight, it was all incredible. Very unique atmosphere, which to be fair is all of Asheville, but this particular spot had phenomenal food too and we would 100% come back given the chance. Very innovative and envelope pushing “bar food”, which I almost don’t even want to call it

Omg, I found this place by shear chance. I met one of the cook's out playing pool. I was told it had the best burger in town. I came in and found out! Hands down absolutely amazing and the staff was awesome. I loved the design and entire vibe of the place. The cool definitely isn't better than me at pool. 🤣 I can't wait to come back and if you're in the area you definitely gotta come check it out! Thanks for all the hospitality and love 🥰

Hail Mary full of TASTE! Wow, my eagerness to try this place was completely justified. I strongly recommend visiting with at least 4 people so you can try a bit of everything. The flavor combinations are powerful and exciting yet balanced and familiar.

My husband and I ended up at Hail Mary last night to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, and we had a great time! We sat at the bar, our server was very attentive, and it was fun to watch the chef at work while we hung out. Everything we ordered was incredible! My favorite was the Pimp Cheese! We got that instead of fries and had zero regrets. We were glad to snag the cheesesteak before it's taken off the menu, and my breakfast sandwich was so luscious! The hashbrown had the most magical texture, I'm still daydreaming about it. The Dirt Cup was a great finisher, that chocolate mousse is truly divine. We will definitely be back! Zero regrets!

Great burger, albeit a bit messy, really enjoyed all of the Sauce Flight, and the hibiscus lemonade was good as well. Cool place. Make sure to check out the magic bathroom inside!

Hail Mary knocks it out of the park every time. The food is consistently exceptional, and the service is just as impressive. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back—top-notch quality across the board. Highly recommend!

Google
One of the best burgers and steak sandwiches in Asheville! A little pricey but definitely worth it! The dirt cup was a little fancy with what I think was mousse, as we were looking for the classic chocolate pudding/cool whip dirt cup. The patio looked very welcoming but someone was smoking so we had to sit elsewhere. I will be back for the amazing food.

Yelp
Perfect for what it is. My wife and I loved our burgers. Our kids devoured their PB&J sandwiches. Fries were the best we had in Asheville. All served warmly and quickly in a casual, funky environment with great music. All sandwich joints should be this good.

Yelp
After several hours in the car driving, all we wanted was a nice takeout food to take back to our hotel. I wish I had taken photos of the food! My crispy chicken sandwich was amaaaazing! A huge meaty chicken tender and juicy inside and perfectly crispy on the outside, Cole slaw (and maybe sweet and sour sauce on the top of it) marinated so much flavors in my mouth! My husband's hamburger was also so tasty. He finished it in no time! we will be back on the next trip!

Yelp
Stopped in while passing through Asheville a few months ago and was thoroughly impressed with this place. Easily one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. Will definitely be stopping by again.

Yelp
We went to tasty diner and it was hit and miss. But this the new Hail Mary is a hit. We went for lunch and had the place to ourselves on a Wednesday. The Brussels are beyond amazing and the double smash burger was equally yummy. They are updating the outside patio and that looks like it's gonna be a nice place to enjoy a delicious meal and a delicious beverage. We will be back.

Yelp
Good food great vibes. Burger is the best in town ! Feel bad for people that don't understand how Ubereatz works. Go in and judge for yourself. Don't buy from the middle man, go straight to the source

Yelp
Can't stand you, yelp, but I love Hail Mary. Never had a bad bite there. Really well done food in a super chill space. Worth every penny.

Yelp
Delivery order. For a $23.40 cheesesteak, it was extremely underwhelming. Way too much chipotle mayo, the sandwich was literally dripping in it. The meat was under seasoned and way overcooked, shoe leather dry. The cheese was cooked into one solid crusted mass. The bread is some highly processed Amoroso style roll that doesn't do the job of delivery vehicle for the sandwich and could be so much better if it were an actual real piece of bread. After all this, I had to order a side of fries for an extra $6.50, bringing my total to $29.90 pretax just for a fairly small "cheesesteak", if you could call it that, and some undercooked Sysco fries. I also find it interesting they typically charge $18 dollars for this sandwich if you eat in the restaurant. I understand charging a bit more to cover delivery app expenses but an extra $5.40 per sandwich?!?! We also got their Sauce Flight, which normally in the restaurant comes with roasted fingerling potatoes for $13. Delivery, for some reason you get undercooked fries instead of fingerling potatoes and they charge you $15.60. The online delivery menu says "lots of fries" and it was literally the same amount if not less than the $6.50 side of fries. All four sauces were mayo based too, which for $15.60 is an easy way out to make multiple sauces with the same base. Just another overhyped, overpriced spot in West Asheville. EDIT: In response to the owners comment saying "usually if I can't afford something, I just won't buy it". I love food, and have no qualms paying top dollar for GOOD food. This just simply was not good and purely a rip off, a fugazi. I guess I'm sorry I wanted to try out your restaurant and see what all the hype was about.

Yelp
I am sooo mad at myself for not posting a review or pictures when I went here weeks ago. Best burger Ive had by far in the 6 years I've lived here. This place has quality food, maybe not so good for the heart... but does wonders for the soul! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back

Yelp
This place rocks!!! I missed out on the original tastee diner (even after living in west Asheville for 5 years...) but the staff has reinvented this iconic place into a true gem. I got a perfectly balanced cocktail and poutine and salad that were truly delicious. I love food that is hearty and feels like it comes from the heart, and isn't pretentious. So glad to have a new favorite restaurant in my neighborhood that comes from the community. Can't wait to taste the whole menu!!

Yelp
Fun West Asheville. Great vibes and great service. Fun menu. And kudos to Chef Mallory ... always an outstanding job!
