"Hail Mary is the kind of place Eastsiders should want to show off, and not just because it will definitely make your Santa Monica friends jealous. A meal at this Atwater Village pizza spot feels personal, from the chef serving you a pie along with a story about his recent motorcycle trip, to the moment at the end of the night when he comes out from behind the counter to give you a leftover loaf of sourdough. Oh, and did we mention the pizzas? They’re great, but Hail Mary isn’t just about the food, it’s about the feeling that you’re connected to the people who made it." - brett keating

"Pizza is about as crowd-pleasing of a family meal as you can find, which is why you’ll probably end up ordering from Hail Mary sooner rather than later. This excellent neighborhood joint in Atwater Village serves up all kinds of great pizzas which can easily feed two, and all are under $20 - including the $10 marinara, which is one of the best deals around. Our favorites are the Abbot (porchetta, Calabrian chiles, and olives) and the Lord Cheezus (too many cheeses - six in all - to name). Get the dandelion and anchovy salad, too. They’ve also been running free pizza deals for food service workers." - brett keating
"Hail Mary makes inventive, excellent sourdough pizzas in their small Atwater Village kitchen. Your options here include the Maddison (kale, chard, mornay sauce, and raclette), the Abbot (porchetta, Calabrian chilis, and olives), and a great $10 margherita that’s loaded with basil and mozzarella. Every pizza has a bit of funk from the sourdough crust, which complements the toppings perfectly. Order online - they’ll text you when it’s ready, and bring it out to the curb once you’re there." - kat hong, brett keating
