Legendary Portland Brewery Hair of the Dog Will Close This Summer | Eater Portland

"After almost 30 years brewing beer in Portland, I learned that Hair of the Dog will close as founder Alan Sprints prepares to retire; he announced on Facebook that he'll keep the tasting room open until sometime this summer, has a few more beers to release and will sell his last bottle of Doggie Claws this year, though he didn't name a specific closing date and says he does not plan to sell the brewery (he is open to collaborating). Opened in 1993 in the Brooklyn neighborhood as a production brewery with no outward-facing tasting room, it developed a reputation for high-ABV, bottle-conditioned beers and was ahead of the curve on the barrel-aged brewing renaissance as well as the IPA heyday. In 2010 the operation moved into a much larger brewery and taproom on SE Yamhill with a full food menu and an expanded barrel-aging program; over the last decade they've added a concrete fermenter, more than 150 oak barrels, and built a seriously loyal set of regulars. The brewery is known for Fred (an American strong ale), the Blue Dot double IPA and Adam old ale, sources 99 percent of its ingredients from within a 350-mile radius (malt from Vancouver and hops from Pacific Northwest farms), and even saw prices on some vintage barleywines inch into the thousands. In his announcement Sprints thanked everyone who helped him along the way and invited beer lovers to come down in the next few months to celebrate the diverse world of beer the brewery helped create." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
Ryan always takes such good care of our dog for her nail trimmings. Even though she hates having her feet touched she always has an easy, quick experience and is definitely making progress with her aversion to trimmings thanks to the skillful care she receives at Hair of the Dog!

Google
Great experience! We were visiting from out of town and I was able to make a same-day appointment (weekday, a Tuesday afternoon) for a dog nail trim. Fair pricing and great staff. We look forward to visiting again!

Raz

Google
They keep your dog in a very small stinky crate while it barks and barks for help waiting to be groomed as the staff hangs out doing nothing or leaves for half the day. 0/5

Google
Ryan and Natalie take such good care of my girls. I’ve been taking my chiweenies for the greater part of a year now and I’m always so impressed with they come out.

Gage H.

Google
They are committed to providing quality service. Much appreciated. They have a wait, so plan your grooming a couple months out. They do their best to get you in as soon as possible, though, so make the call.

Google
This shop is the best! The people are amazing. The first time I brought my dog,Jujube he was very nervous, shaking and trying to cling to me as I handed him over to Ryan, his groomer. Now Jujube and Ryan are best buds and Jujube does his happy dance when he realizes where we're going. When I pick him up from his appointment he looks and smells great and always has goodbye kisses for Ryan.

Google
This place is sketchy. Poor, overpriced service. Was unable to hold my pup and keep him calm during a routine nail trim (they used an electric file). Pup whined throughout the nail trim and then came home shaking and with bleeding nails. I wish we had trusted all of the negative reviews before causing unnecessary pain and stress for our dog. UPDATE to company reply: I’m writing this from my partner’s account. I was a new customer today, I was not happy, and I did not pre-book my next appointment. Would “more encouragement, praise, and positive reinforcement” from my behalf helped prevent your groomer from quicking multiple nails and causing them to bleed, even after we got back home? Your dishonesty and disregard to the well being of the dogs you’re grooming should be a massive red flag for anyone else who is considering trying out your services.

Google
Our favorite groomers! Whether it’s just a bath or full haircut/grooming service…they do a fantastic job every time. Thanks Hair of the Dog!

Theresa C.

Yelp
Don't waste your time here. Even as a long time client, they don't return calls timely and also say you will be put on a cancellation list but never call. They are so overbooked they won't make apportionments. I hope they can be more upfront with their customers.

Yelp
My Yorkie has been getting his hair groomed with Anne since he was a puppy, now almost 5 years old we couldn't imagine him seeing another groomer. He is usually a bit of a shy dog sometimes even timid, but when we pull up in front of Hair of the Dog Grooming he is so excited to go see his favorite groomers! Definitely give this place of 5 out of 5!

Yelp
I suppose it's time for me to find a new grooming salon. Took my Schnauzer in today. Before I saw my dog I was told it'd be 10% more because she was matted (Schnauzer hair) ok. I go ahead pay and add tip. They bring out my dog and she's shaved. .... so why the extra fee? I always book the first appointment at 7:30 so that she's out quickly. What normally takes 3.5 hours was a 5 hour appointment. I spoke to the manager about my concerns (bad choppy cut, wasn't informed she'd be shaved) and understand the groomer was overbooked. This is the worst cut she's ever had.

Yelp
My experience here always varies. I was in yesterday to trim my dogs nails. The woman who did his trim was absolutely lovely. She was very kind and gentle with my dog and I so appreciate her tenderness with him. Cut to me asking if there's any hand sanitizer up front as literally everyone has one out right now for obvious reasons. This other gal at the front goes on this long and loud diatribe about how she hates the smell of lavender and decided to love the hand sanitizer to the back to save herself from the smell. And refuses to bring it back up front for people to use. In times like these, it pays to have your priorities straight. Personally I would be hesitant to keep on an employee who's incredible ability to put herself first puts so many others in harms way. After all she's one of the faces of your company. Priorities amirite?

Yelp
After moving into the area, I faced many anxieties, one of them being "Where on earth am I going to get my pup groomed?" Mine had been going to (now-closed) Pawsitively Clean on Hawthorne for the past three years and I was devastated at their sudden shuttering. A good dog-groomer - one who really listens and sees your dog not as another random mutt, but as an extension of your own self - is hard to find. I saw that Hair of the Dog was closeby, but was reluctant to give them a try. Stepping into unknown territory and trusting a stranger with your elderly, blind Shih Tzu is scary and I've had some pretty sketchy experiences in the past. But I relented and decided to give them a try. And I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did they accommodate a last minute grooming, they did a beautiful job on her - one of the best cuts she's ever had. I didn't know my dog could clean up that well. It seemed like they were really skilled with her cut and that they took time to make it next to perfect. And I really appreciated that their shampoo that they used wasn't overly flowery and overbearing like other groomers we've gone too. Overall, it was a great experience! The only thing keeping me from leaving five-stars is that they took a very long time on her - about 4 hours, which has never happened before with the other groomers she'd been to. And that wasn't because she was wiggly or hard to manage. Apparently, 4 hours is standard for them for a 13lb Shih Tzu (whom, I'd like to add, wasn't covered in mats or supremely dirty). I'll admit that I definitely don't like knowing that my elderly dog with health problems is being worked on (and left sitting in a kennel intermittently) for that long; not too keen on that. But what they lack in speed is made up for in the quality of their work and I'll certainly be back.

Melissa B.

Yelp
My dog and I sure miss Jancie! Unfortunately, I have to upgrade this review of Hair of the Dog to a downgrade. The customer service is snotty, to say the least. They have been rude, short and basically treat you as if you are lucky they exist. Well, sorry HoTD, there are other places to get your dog groomed. We have happily found one, and my dog is so much happier. He goes into the salon rather than shying away. And the cuts are great! Now, I do not recommend Hair of the Dog.

Yelp
Thank yoooou!!! Picked up my new rescue dog from PDX only to discover that she had gotten the runs in the crate (I'm not a huge fan of flying, either tbh).. I live out in the gorge and was going to have to drive 1.5 hours home with a poopy dog in a poopy crate and did a SOS call to Hair of the Dog looking for help. They let me come in right away, even helped me do a self-wash on Spooky and let me use their supplies and towels to clean her crate out. Spooky was growling and very obviously stressed out and they handled it confidently and kindly. I was in such a moment of stress about all of this and they really saved the day for me. Thank you for your kind services! Spooky is getting settled in nicely and I'll bring her by sometime when we are back in town. :)

Yelp
Efficient, skilled professionals, friendly customer service and focused on grooming that meets the customer's request.

Carrie S.

Yelp
Used to be my go to spot. Now they don't answer their phone or bother to call you back after they tell you to leave a message. This has happened both of the last 2 times I tried to go there for grooming. Sad. Will go elsewhere.

Yelp
This was my first time at Hair of The Dog and they have absolutely won me over as a returning customer! I have a nervous nelly 60lb rescue dog who has never been a fan of bath time. When I picked her up, she smelled so delicious and better yet, she was having so much fun with the other dogs, she didn't want to leave. The price is super competitive and you would be remiss to not take your precious pup here! The staff treated her so well and I'm so glad to have found a place in Portland!
google avatar

Damien W.

Yelp
Today we took Layla in to get her groomed and have never been here before . We were nervous but absolutely shouldn't have been. These people are caring and the vibe was laid back yet professional. The pups coming out were happy as well as their owners! Thank you Rebecca for taking such great care of her ! We will definitely be back ! Love our neighborhood even more now thank you !!!

Yelp
My 5 year old cocker spaniel, Louie, is my heart, my therapy dog, my 4legged BFF. After a year of living in Portland, and every 6-8 weeks returning to our previous groomer in Bend, I finally made the leap to find a local groomer. Research and yelp reviews led me to Hair of the Dog. I found the staff very professional as they asked very good screening questions when I dropped Louie off. When I picked him up, I was so jazzed to see how good he looked. The fact that he got to roam about the place freely and not be kenneled was the icing on the cake. Now that I found them for Louie, he's a client for life. Thanks!

Yelp
Recently moved here from New York and today I spent a lot of time researching to find the perfect tubs for my stinky mastiffs! We found them @ Hair of the Dog on Alberta. Pricing is based on weight- which makes sense since my dogs use a lot more product & hot water than a Chihuahua. $20 each for 2 mastiffs including good quality shampoo, conditioner, & other pup spa items! Water can be adjusted from cold to very WARM (human bath water temp). Which is good for my picky boy! Very clean and safe facility! tubs were very CLEAN! Saw employee cleaning the tubs as each customer left. Wasn't too busy- can imagine it gets REALLY hot in there when it is! Excellent customer service as well- Ry was very friendly and extremely helpful! 12 hours later and my boys still smell so fresh & clean. My boys will be returning here for all baths in their foreseeable future :) Well worth the $$ and sparing our bathroom at home!

Yelp
I've been here 3 times. Once for a nail trim, Once for a nail trim / self bath, and the last for a self bath. The first 2 times, it was a good experience, the last time still a good experience but it smelled really bad in the lobby. I know, I know it's a doggy beauty salon, you should expect it to smell. Yes, maybe I'm overly sensitive but it smelled so bad that I am dreading my next trip there. I just need to accept it. Will I go back? Of course... The self bath set up is great. Each dog gets their own tub. They supply the soap, brushes (all the gadgets you considered buying in the pet store and doubted that they work), towels, water and a professional dryer.
google avatar

Collin K.

Yelp
My dog never lets me trim his nails without a fight so I bring him here instead, I can't imagine he makes their lives easy at all! They're still friendly and quick every time, even during covid I've had a great experience. It's also more affordable to bring them here than the vets office. Love this place!
google avatar

Debra W.

Yelp
Interesting I see they are posting a pic of my dog to advertise their establishment and yet have refused to groom him anymore. Originally they were great. Jancie originally was great. She took the time needed and wanted the owner to be pleased. Then the last time my dog was there (probably a year ago), I got a call that my dog had to be shaved lower as there were mats. I took my dog on a regular basis and I know the dog was not filled with mats, but they gave me no choice. When I came to pick up my dog, the workers told me that since she'd purchased the place , policy had changed. They no longer took any extra time with a dog if it had a couple of mats. New policy, find a mat, shave lower because it is faster. I'd never trust them with my dog again and they don't want to see me since I complained.

Yelp
Fun and locally owned, a pet lovers delight! Conveniently located on Alberta st. We're you can treat your self to a new look around the corner at Red Magnolia salon, or gets some people treats at Candy Babel or maybe take a Hot yoga class while your pooch is being pampered or stay and self wash and enjoy every moment of being a good and responsible pet owner who takes there lucky dog to Hair of the Dog!

Yelp
I will give 2 stars. In fact about two years ago I gave a 5 stars as I have been taking my Lhasa apso for 7 years here and today unfortunately felt he was fired from it. Understood he is 14 year old doggie, with no big health concerns, but today they gave me a call 3 hours later to let me know they didn't do anything but just a bath. He got somehow aggressive and called me they didn't do any grooming and stayed on the kennel. Disappointed that they are not taking the patience for senior dogs and as well loyalty to clients. If you want to keep your costumers you want to give that extra, and not just to fill appointments to have ton of volume. Don't take me wrong they are good, but if you have a senior and it gets nervous thru the age, they have always busy schedule and multiple dogs at the same time. Sad they suggested me to go to A vet they can put him under anesthesia for grooming.
google avatar

Sueli C.

Yelp
Love this place because they always take food care of my dog and offer competitive pricing for a husky. After each grooming he comes home with an adorable doggie neck scarf/bandanna! They are also very patient with my dog Ares as he can be a handful, he has a lot of personality. I really appreciate them putting up with him! Thanks all for the hard work and making sure he comes home looking pristine every time!

Yelp
We took our two cockapoo siblings there today for a self- wash and couldn't believe that we have been washing our dogs at home for so long. They supply towels, shampoo, a variety of brushes, eye wash, ear cleaner, even cranberry facial scrub! And of course 'essence of almond' at the end. There are also aprons for the humans. The price is reasonable too- we paid $20 because they are under 25lbs and because Sundays is $2 off per dog. Convenience (it's close to our house and and our bathroom doesn't get wrecked) and cost plus those little extras will keep us coming back for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
First time taking my puggle to the groomers. Good thing: it wasn't too pricey and they fit me in. Bad thing: he didn't get his bandana or a "perfume" and didn't seem like he was brushed like it states either. There was hair falling off of him. I really couldn't tell he just came back from the groomers. I could have done a better job at home. That's what I get for being lazy and going to the groomers.
google avatar

Katy M.

Yelp
I just had my newly adopted retriever groomed for the first time and Hair of the Dog was amazing. I was very nervous and asked a lot of questions and they were helpful and accommodating. They groomed her exactly as I asked and she looks perfect! Thanks so much!
google avatar

Melody B.

Yelp
I moved from Southeast and had to find a new groomer.Unsure of where to go, I asked around because she needs someone gentle (kind of a baby). A neighbor recommended this place so there we went.It was busy so I had to wait a few minutes, but the staff were very sweet to her. They even gave her a bandana! Thank you Hair of the dog!
google avatar

Todd N.

Yelp
Hair of the dog is the only place Moses Honeyman goes to get his hair and nails done! He loves it and we think he looks fabulous!
google avatar

Arizona R.

Yelp
The employees are fantastic- very helpful calming my dog and teaching me how best to wash his his face even though he hates that!! Their shampoo smells delicious and they have tons of tools to get your dog perfectly clean. I like the more laid back vibe of the shop, they are not lax about entering and exiting the bathing area but that is bc that space has free roaming (all friendly) dogs that have been recently bathed/groomed. Their prices are based on weight and Sunday's are discounted! We come often and will continue that ritual particularly through the winter. They also have full grooming options but they book up fast!
google avatar

Yelp
$10 bucks for an anal gland expression for my little pup. Sold. Quick and easy with free treats.

Kendall B.

Yelp
I have a maltipoo which isn't necessarily the easiest dog to groom. This is the first place I've gotten him groomed where he doesn't come out looking like a completely different breed. I've never been so impressed with a groomer's before! A definite must for any poodle mixes - they won't butcher your dog!
google avatar

Snow F.

Yelp
I had been coming here for years, quite happily, until one day I ran into the owner, who suddenly decided to re-categorize my dog in a more expensive size. When I explained that I am a regular customer and have never been asked to pay this higher rate, she asked me how frequently I come, and I answered monthly. "That's not that often," she replied. "Wow, I guess I'll go elsewhere," I said. "Good," she replied. (WOW -wtf?) Needless to say, I was shocked at her rudeness. I choose to frequent local independent businesses largely because they understand customer service -- they are generally personable and appreciative, much moreso than chains. But oddly, this particular business owner has zero clue about customer service, and unfortunately I can no longer recommend this place because of her attitude. Sadly she is very rude to her employees as well. :( I'm giving it two stars for the two nice guy employees who used to treat me and my dog really well before Evil Boss ruined it.
google avatar

Blank B.

Yelp
My pooch is usually pretty mellow, but she goes nuts whenever I try to clip her nails. She also has issues with her (those with squeamish stomachs, stop reading NOW!) anal glands. I just don't want to mess around with the chore of expressing the dog's glands. I will gladly shell out $24.00 to have someone else bath, clip and de-stank the dog's butt. I like Hair of the Dog. The beagle comes home smelling nice and clean, her coat is nice and soft, and her nails don't click-clack on the floor for awhile. Quick, convenient and right down the street.
google avatar

Karl A.

Yelp
Highly recommend! I have a long-haired white German Shepherd and Missy did an amazing job with him. Trimmed his coat beautifully and his nails are so well groomed he's like a ninja-dog now. This place came highly recommended to me on NextDoor and now I see why.
google avatar

Don F.

Yelp
This place is odd. The reception area is small (and unstaffed) with a sign that instructs you not to talk on the phone at the counter and a warning sign that if you open the door the back you will be told to leave the premises. Wow! Lots of communications about expectation, except tht when I called to we if they were open they failed or mention that no one under 18 can participate in the self doggie wash! Of course, my 11 year old daughter and I learned this after we loaded up the dog up and drove through rushhour traffic. When I called they should have communicated this as well as any other special instructions they may have. We left with a dirty dog and will be going to Beauty and the Beast where they are friendly and let kids wash their dogs.
google avatar

Jade J.

Yelp
Took my dog in for a haircut and recieved a $55 bath all under the excuse of not wanting to stress the dog out on the first visit. I will not return.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
NO STARS. Very upsetting and disappointing visit last Saturday. One of the groomers obviously had NO experience. She was trying to clip a dog's nails without success and dog was literally screeching!! Finally one of the staff yelled at her to stop and then with 2 people it went fine. Too many dogs loose and one of them kept trying to jump over the half door and almost hung himself up on the door. No one was paying attention. Too many dogs, too much confusion, finally someone put the jumping dog in a crate. I've used self bathing facilities for years without problems BUT this was the 3rd time I've seen egregious behavior here. The previous times I've called the manager and things got better for a while. I've given them a 2nd chance but no more. Now it's 3 strikes and you're out and I won't be back!!!!
google avatar

Dillon P.

Yelp
Not a great first experience, but if you're into attitude this place may be fore you. The guy at the desk was unfriendly and just complained about the phone ringing (he seemed to be the person booking appointments and checking customers in). the groomer ignored me when I walked in, they didn't get my name OR my dogs and just dragged her in back. When she was brought back to me her nail was bleeding and 10 minutes later it still is at home. Don't think I'll be returning.
google avatar

Puanani L.

Yelp
Quick. Easy. Affordable. Merry The Wonder Beagle was anxious at first, but I felt confident handing her off to Kevin. The time frame was exactly as he said, and Merry came out happy, clean, clipped and really soft. I appreciate the clarity of services and the various offerings and price packages. We will be back. Thank you, Kevin.

Yelp
From the business owner, no kidding, 5 years after I wrote the original review: "The reason the shampoo is watered down is so that it spreads easy. If it were more concentrated it would be hard to rinse therefore causing skin problems if it didn't get rinsed off completely." Good to know, and 4th star for better late than never.

Kathryn C.

Yelp
I've taken my dog here for bathing, grooming and nail trims a few times and every time she has come out looking and feeling great! As an adopted dog, I wasn't sure how she would do with any of this, but in the year I've had her she has "grown as a person" as Natalie the groomer said. . Her decreased anxiety reflectshow well she is treated here and how comfortable she feels.

Yelp
Our border collie/Aussie mix is a big, gentle working dog who is easy to please. Hair of the Dog treats Dolly like the princess she is. They work quickly and thoroughly, and I have always found the groomers happy to hear feedback and guidance before they get to work making your doggo a cutie. Our other dog is a frisky bichon frisé with a heart of gold, and temperamental hypoallergenic hair and skin. Hair of the Dog always know just how to trim and groom his curly white hair; he comes home looking like a dandelion with a pink tongue. HotD prices are also very reasonable for the quality of grooming. Paying less than $65 per dog for several hours of good work is well worth it.

Yelp
Excellent groomers here! Happy Doggies and Happy clients, I love this place!
google avatar

Lexi B.

Yelp
I loved this place!! Super friendly, attentive, and helpful staff, along with reasonable prices. $2 off self wash on Sundays is great! My dog was quite scared to get her nails trimmed, and members of the staff came over to help soothe her. She got lots of positive attention that made her feel more comfortable. So sweet! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
One day, not long ago, my very adventurous dog decided that it would be really smart and fun to roll in dead salmon and racoon crap. I'm sure it was fun - for him. Luckily, Hair of the Dog is just blocks from my house, and the owner not only graciously kept the store open an extra half-hour for us (after she had already cleaned the entire joint), she even helped me wash Chico THREE TIMES to get the foul, foul stench out of his fur. In addition to a wide array of shampoos, conditioners, cleaning implements and ear wash, they also provide a selection of pet aromatherapy sprays to choose from - for a special finishing touch. We used "Pupsicle", a delightful blend of tangerine and vanilla. Needless to say, he went from smelling like a garbage bin that had been thrown into an outhouse to a sweet-smelling, delicious Creamsicle. And all for a cool $16 (I tipped handsomely, of course). A great value, a shopkeeper who loves her work and "clients" and a wonderful, all-around service to have in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
Our dog didn't have a problem getting her nails trimmed prior to coming here. Since her nail trimming at Hair of the Dog she howls and whimpers and tries to escape when getting her nails clipped. I feel like I scarred my dog by making the bad decision to come here.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
We have been going to Hair of the Dog since they opened and it's always a great experience. They are friendly and helpful and can often take last minute-ish appointments (e.g., calling the day before). They have a nice play area out back for their clients (the dogs) to hang out while waiting for their appointment or to be picked up. The only thing I don't like about it is the smell of the shampoo they use, but I'm sure I could solve that by supplying my own. (Or by [gasp] doing the wash myself.) And I just read Neena D.'s review that I can choose scents -- didn't realize that. But honestly, if the dogs don't smell like the muck they roll in, I can handle a funky smelling shampoo. It's an awesome place, we will continue to go back.

Yelp
This place is a bit of a dirty cluster so our pups get their DIY baths elsewhere, however if you do decide to go, call ahead if you can (it gets rather busy). We've used many DIY dog washes in other states and found these baths to be the dirtiest we've seen. In fact, the whole place needs a good scrubbing. its also the most expensive we've seen. Dogs are charged by weight (I suppose when they're larger - or fatter as the case is with one of our pooches) they use more water and shampoo. Anyways it was certainly much pricier than other DIY dog washes (including the very affordable city of San Francisco). The watered down shampoo bit didn't really bother me, but overall we really didn't care much for this place and are thrilled we have found another one close by.
google avatar

Brigette K.

Yelp
The employees were super helpful and took great care of the dogs that were there. I opted for self serve wash, they gave me everything I needed and gave me the space to wash my big dog while comforting my little dog after his nail trim.

Yelp
One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. We made a reservation for our dog to be groomed ( one and a half weeks in advance). Upon arrival we were quoted four hours to complete the job but were encouraged to call in to see if they'd finished up sooner. I called in after three hours to check on the progress; had dinner plans a needed to pick the little guy up. We were told he hadn't been groomed yet and it would be another 2 1/2 hrs until he was ready. What??? Four hours was generous; five and a half hours felt negligent. We picked him up and said we'd happily pay for the services rendered. The groomer became aggressive and demanded payment in full. As an Alberta Arts homeowner I make an effort to support local business; unfortunately they have made returning impossible. Such a pity.

Yelp
My favorite groomer, Anna, moved to this groomer place, and I love it! The other employees were very friendly and sweet over the phone and in person. They use great products to bathe and groom the animals. Charlotte felt so so so soft and smelled amazing. Her rough paws were worked on too, and felt soft after seeing Anna. They also offer self serve style baths, you bathe your dog yourself. So that's an option if you are interested, I believe they have an offer, check out their website or call to inquire. Overall I'm pleased with this place and will continue to take Charlotte here!

Yelp
Come here every 6-8 weeks to get my dogs nails clipped. Always very quick and efficient. His nails are always clipped very well! My only complaint is in the summer it gets very stuffy in the building. I am assuming it's not very well ventilated in the back. It was even closed one summer day when I walked my dog there in the afternoon because of the heat. I would suggest taking your dog early in the day in the summers to avoid this!

Yelp
I just took one of my dogs here and it was great! They were super nice and I got an appointment quickly. She was done in less time than was quoted and looked great! She's a husky mix and is basically a fluffy dirt sponge and it was like getting a new dog! They obviously put a lot of care in brushing her out. Definitely taking her to get a haircut in the spring.
