"From the Rosanjin crockery to the retro Showa-era coasters, Tadaaki Tanaka’s restaurant is an interplay between authenticity and playfulness. The comments on the menu are easy to understand, enticing with delicious descriptions. When the chef exclaims “Tabetenshai!” meaning “let’s eat” in the Hakata dialect, it makes you want to eat what you like, as much as you like. The courteous staff of this high-grade izakaya, a step above a kappo but not quite a ryotei, ensure you’ll enjoy your visit." - Michelin Inspector

Visited Tanakada in Nishiazabu, a upscale izakaya known for the concept “order whatever you love, as much as you like.” We had a sashimi assortment with uni, squid, tuna, scallops, and white fish — all incredibly fresh and perfect with Kyushu-style sweet soy sauce. The thick-cut ham katsu was crispy with a thin coating, letting the juicy ham shine. The butter-grilled abalone was huge and tender, full of rich flavor. We also enjoyed kinmedai-style simmered rockfish, mentaiko, spicy kombu, and ended with their signature “zeitaku-don,” the perfect finish.

Purportedly said to be the most expensive izakaya (Japanese gastropub) in Japan, and I am not surprised if it is. All food does not have a price on the menu and you just need to tell the name of the food and the amount. Even the check was not given in an itemized list so you will never know how much each dish costs. Given what it takes, the taste is pretty good. The dishes were all freshly cooked and served at the right temperature. I can’t come here often but it will be great if you come with your good friend or significant other.

This place claims itself to be the most expensive Izakaya in town, and its quality meets the standard. You can enjoy best seasonal foods here all year round. There is no price on the food menu, so it might be a bit scary, but your experiece is worth every penny.

The quality of ingredients here is good, and the cooking is simple and well done. That said, the quality-price ratio fairs poorly here, and playing izakaya price-roulette during dinner can certainly be anxiety-inducing (not for the faint of heart). 10/10 would recommend if you're bruce wayne, or else just stick to your local izakaya.

Shop from Fukuoka Kyushu! Very famous high end izakaya restaurant! Seafoods snd meat all of the best ingredients! Very delicious but on the other hand very expensive! Highly recommended

Relatively normal izakaya food for way too extremely expensive price. I don’t mind the priceless menu, but did not like the slightly dishonest service. We were clearly finished our meal and already asked to pay, when the manager purposely opened another bottle of still water when all our cups were still full (without asking). It’s not about the money but it left us with the feeling they are trying to squeeze every dollar out of the customer.

One of the best upper class izakaya experience in Tokyo based on Kyushu specialities One of the best chance to enjoy horse sashimi in Tokyo Excellent choice of wine 🍷 Warning ⚠️ quality has its price Service is impeccable and professional

Went there for a dinner for 2. We know that this place is frequent by famous people and we had high expectations for the place . The restaurant definitely met those expectations and we are looking forward to our next visit there.
