The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"Funamizaka isn’t your traditional ramen place, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great. We accidentally stumbled across this place a few years ago and have been going back ever since. And we go for one thing in particular - the clam ramen - which is not common in Tokyo and less heavy. The space feels like you’re sitting in a fisherman’s bar - there are nets and nautical trinkets - but it’s not kitschy at all." - josh layne

Google
Really good ramen spot, honestly could not recommend it enough. Food is super tasty; the broth I got with my shio ramen was super rich and the pork was also really good having the right flavor without the weird aftertaste you get at some of the chains. The proportions were large especially for the price. Food also arrived super quick, I was in and out in about 15 minutes. The only thing I really can't give points for is that it is a little dusty inside the restaurant but if you're fine with that the food more than makes up for it.

Delicious affordable Ramen. Choose and pay at vending machine and enjoy. Authentic atmosphere with many local customers. They provide an english manual for the vending machine as well. Staff is also very helpful.

Cozy ramen shop with limited seating. They use a ticketing machine which unfortunately didn't have any English, but the pictures were enough. The portion for the ramen was quite generous, and it's always nice to watch the ramen chefs working if you sit at the counter. The broth was a lighter shio broth and mine came with pork chashu and shrimp dumplings/wontons. It made for a very filling meal without feeling too heavy.

Hakodate Ramen Funamizaka – The Midnight Ramen Spot in Ginza If you ever find yourself in Ginza late at night, craving a bowl of comforting ramen, let me put you on to Hakodate Ramen Funamizaka. This is literally the ONLY ramen spot in the area that stays open super late. I rolled up here at midnight, and there was already a queue—a sign that something good was waiting inside. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The Perfect Late-Night Feast I kicked things off with their ikura starter, and it was honestly the best decision. That briny pop of fresh salmon roe? Absolutely perfect before diving into the main event: Hakodate spicy ramen. The broth? Rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. The spice level? Just right—enough to warm you up but not overpower the delicate balance of flavors. The noodles had that perfect chew, and every bite just hit the spot. Great Food, Even Better Vibes One of the best parts? The chit-chat with the chefs and staff—turns out, many of them are from Vietnam! Super friendly, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. The whole place had such a great atmosphere—the kind of spot that makes you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first time. Final Thoughts If you need a late-night food fix in Ginza, Hakodate Ramen Funamizaka is the place to go. Great ramen, great people, and the perfect way to end a night out in Tokyo.

Hakodate Ramen Funamizaka is a must-visit for ramen lovers! The spicy ramen and miso ramen are absolute standouts—deep, rich, and bursting with flavor. The broth is perfectly balanced, with layers of umami that make each bite unforgettable. The ramen noodles are cooked to perfection, with just the right texture, and the thinly sliced pork is tender and flavorful. Lot's of vegetable toppings. All of that standard (i.e. no extras added to the order) in a very generous bowl. While I stuck with the spicy and miso options, the seafood ramen that others at my table ordered looked incredible. The attention to detail and quality in every bowl is clear.

5/5 is my rating. It’s run by a young staff, attentive, very helpful and will make your Ramen your way. Just awesome .. more than 5stars if I could say … must try out on your visit to Tokyo.. not a Michelin star restaurant but nothing lesser. The automated ordering machine is a blessing and the service is super fast ! Well done

Really believe this place should be more highly rated than the 3.9 rating, though I do see it's climbed up in rating since we went last November 2023. We had gone as a group of 8 and were split in to 2 tables. We were able to try the various ramen broths - asari clam, shio, and miso ramen. We enjoyed all of them. My asari clam ramen was fresh, clear, clean-tasting (no fishy after taste), and full-bodied despite its light mouth feel. The noodles were OK. The service was a little lacking, as we felt like we were getting rushed about, but we totally understand how perhaps our big group was taking up a lot of space/time. I really loved the quirky ambience, though. The shop is dark wood and moody - and you see boiling pots of noodles with steam rolling up high in the open kitchen. In the background, jazz music was playing, so it felt like we were in a smoky speakeasy. I loved it though! Overall, better than average experience. We appreciate the craft and hard work of the chef!

We found this place by chance while googling for a nice ramen shop that’s open for supper! It was also our first night in Tokyo so when we reached this place, we were just so excited to see such an authentic, cosy set-up inside. We were seated at the counter. You have to order at the machine. Upon pressing the buttons, we only realised we needed to put in the cash first before ordering 😅 (#noob). We ordered the special salt ramen (soup base is on the light side which is how I like it but my husband prefers a heavier broth) and the gyoza 🥟 ! I think they were the best gyozas I had for the rest of my trip in Tokyo…realised that not all ramen shops would serve dumplings on the side - so this was perfect! Also best served with Sapporo beer - 🍺 The chef was super friendly and warm too. What a great start to our trip.
