The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"Funamizaka isn’t your traditional ramen place, but that doesn’t mean it’s not great. We accidentally stumbled across this place a few years ago and have been going back ever since. And we go for one thing in particular - the clam ramen - which is not common in Tokyo and less heavy. The space feels like you’re sitting in a fisherman’s bar - there are nets and nautical trinkets - but it’s not kitschy at all." - josh layne

If you want a truly authentic Japanese ramen experience, this spot is a must-visit. The shop was full of locals, yet everyone was very welcoming, and they even offer an English menu for visitors. The staff were kind, attentive, and made the whole visit feel smooth and comfortable. I ordered ramen number 2, while my boyfriend went with ramen number 4. Both bowls were incredibly tasty. Ramen #4 had an impressive, rich umami flavor that really stood out, while ramen #2 was wonderfully balanced and packed with flavor. The handmade noodles were cooked perfectly al dente, giving them the ideal chew and texture. A quick tip: you’ll place your order at the vending machine immediately to the right when you walk in, then hand the printed ticket to the staff once you’re seated. Overall, I highly recommend trying this place!

Great noodle places. Its not big but the noodle is great. The special salt noodle is good and the dipping one is good for those that doesn’t want to drink the soup. Great value, only around 1000 yen per bowl.

It’s a simple, atmospheric spot with real character - far from polished, but memorable for its authenticity and warm service. • The shop has been running for 25 years, and its long history gives it a truly authentic, comforting feel. • The interior is cozy and atmospheric slightly worn, but in a way that adds charm rather than takes away from it. • We had the miso ramen, which was rich and delicious, and the special ramen, also full of flavor and really satisfying. • The owner is incredibly kind, speaks English, and gladly helps you choose the best dish. • A warm, character-filled place with real soul, perfect if you want genuine, classic ramen in a nostalgic setting.

Absolutely delicious ramen. The broth was light, clean and full of flavour without being overpowering. The gyoza were fantastic too. The staff were lovely, and the laminated English guide for the vending machine made ordering easy even though the place is otherwise fully authentic. Cozy, fast and relaxing. Highly recommend.

Walked into it randomly and received a warm welcome and amazing ramen. The lemonade soda drink is pretty fun too, with a little glass boll. Jazz music on the background was so appropriate! Even other visitors from Japan were extra friendly for some reason. Amazing experience.

If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese ramen experience, this is the place to go! The shop was filled with locals, but they were very welcoming to visitors and even had an English menu available. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. I ordered the clam ramen, and my boyfriend had the miso ramen. Both were delicious, but the miso really stood out—it had an incredible, rich umami punch that I’d definitely recommend. The noodles were handmade in-house and had the perfect al dente texture and chewiness, which made the bowls even better. They’re also well-known for their salt ramen, another great option to consider. A quick tip: you’ll order from the vending machine directly to the right after you enter, and it prints out a ticket that you hand to the staff once you’re seated. Overall, highly recommend!

Small, local vibes. Super yummy ramen and you get to order on a ramen vending machine and they bring it to you. Very yummy and quick easy meal.

Delicious affordable Ramen. Choose and pay at vending machine and enjoy. Authentic atmosphere with many local customers. They provide an english manual for the vending machine as well. Staff is also very helpful.
