Google
been coming here for a good 9 or 10 years, never anything less than delicious. usually get their ny style lamb gyro, but i tried the burger for the first time the other day, also delicious. rarely more than a 10 to 20 minute wait

Suyeb Miah

Google
Tried the Chicken 65 Biryani, and it was disappointing. The rice felt 2–3 days old, dry, and stale, while the chicken was tough and lacked flavor. It didn’t taste like a proper biryani at all. Definitely not recommended

Google
just earlier, i placed an order on the phone for 1 order of THREE somosas. i repeat, THREE. and 3 orders of mozzerella sticks. they say "10 minutes." so me and my mother head over to a nearby store for some slurpees, then we head over to desi's. we grab our stuff, right? we're expecting three somosas, and fifteen cheese sticks. we get back, there's only one somosa in there, and thirteen mozzerella sticks. i would go back, but this time it's really dissapointed me. not to mention, i couldn't understand a single thing they said. and it seemed as if it was the same way the other way around. i always hate making calls up there, but again, i would go back because the food is okay. and it's the only place i can actually get mozzerella sticks without having to pay 20$ for a big bag.

Google
This was the worst gyro sandwich I've had in my entire life. I'm honestly unsure as to whether I actually ate gyro meat, or if somebody mixed up canned cat food with yogurt and served it to me. I ate half of it, went across the street to the liquor store, and got two slices of pizza just to ensure that if I was hit by a car in the next 15 minutes, that sandwich wasn't the last thing I ate.

Google
The person that answers phone needs to be professional. He or she was like “hello” like wth, you ain’t talking to your friend. Also, I ordered a nyc gyro, and I got chicken gyro. Wrong orders? Really? Yall need to figure out something better!!!

Malek

Google
Mango Lassi and NY style chicken over rice was amazing. very very nostalgic. if your familiar with the halal guys food trucks in New York this is just as good !!

Bin Kallan

Google
Food was good and authentic. The Chicken 65 tasted good by chicken was a little dry. Also tried Beef and Chicken samosas and they were fantastic! Flaky crust and cooked just right.

Hussein Al Khafaji

Google
NY style lamb gyro over rice was great! Also tried their chicken and lamb over rice.

Yelp
I'm a chef I came to Michigan for New York I drove by this place and I ordered the chicken over rice there is no hype to it. The chicken is not seasoned well there's no type of veggies cooked with a chicken to give it more flavors for the salad they give you lettuce, but they didn't give you nothing else besides the lettuce, white sauce is horrible It doesn't taste good. It's not creamy. if you mixed mayonnaise with water, that's how the white sauce taste is not thick edible. it's not worth. $8.71 and for the record them Styrofoam plates is not good for hot food. You could get poison from the Styrofoam plates you could look it up about hot food and Styrofoam plates?. for me is not worth it .

Yelp
3.5 stars. Got the nyc Halal cart combo mix. It was ok. Little too much white sauce. The meal felt kind of light. We also got extra meat as well and it was still very light. Doesn't beat the most in basic Hala cart in nyc. It's definitely cheap and would be the only reason I'd come back
google avatar

Munzer R.

Yelp
This is a great go-to takeout place for me, just about 10 minutes from Downtown Detroit area. The white sauce gyro pizza is some of the best pizza I've had, and they have a super extensive menu with anything from specialty pizza, to Chinese food, to Meditteranean rice bowls. I also really like ordering the chicken and gyro rice bowl, the portions are huge and it's exactly the same as something you'd get from a NY food cart. I always just doordash or pick up the food, there is some small seating indoors, but it's not the biggest spot, so I would recommend doing takeout. For the prices and portions, I would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Eisa M.

Yelp
Honestly, been coming to this food spot for a while, they have the best NY Style Gyro with Rice. That actually comes close to NYC style gyro with rice.
google avatar

Mike E.

Yelp
I really love this place. The service is always great the food is always awesome and the price point is perfect. I don't live in Hamtramck and it's not often that I do come to Hamtramck but when I do I always make sure I stop off to this place to grab some Chicken 65! And check out their dollar menu. I can't believe they actually have a dollar menu. It's not your typical bullshit McDonald's stuff. It's real food and it's Halal which means the meant is not processed. Give this place a try I'm sure you'll love it.
google avatar

Brittine R.

Yelp
The food use to be good . Now it's kinda like not good quality food . the rice doesn't taste like nothing. And the building just keeps looking more dingy over the years
google avatar

Yelp
This place looks like it's never been cleaned, ever. Despite this I decided to order because I was under a super time constraint. Placed an order saying no this, this, this and this because of allergies. [By the way, the menu states (in several places, no lees) to mention food allergies when ordering.] Got my food, went to my gig, opened the box, and the food is ABSOLUTELY SMOTHERED in every single one of those items, including two extra ingredients that were not even listed in the menu description. I had no choice but to toss the whole thing.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get a NY style gyro platter. Chicken is my favorite, but the chicken and lamb mixed platter is pretty great too. Ask for extra sauce and thank me later!
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Favorite spot in Hamtramck. Everything I've gotten from here has been great. The gyro rice is especially amazing, and you always get good portions for what you paid.

Yelp
Just good ass food if I don't feel like going to NYC HALA IM HERE and that's a lot frfr

Yelp
Amazing Pizza . I don't eat pork so, I appreciate having Shawarma pizza and Beef pepperoni. Beef bacon. Outstanding service along with delicious pizza. Highly recommend.

Yelp
So I am not very picky with my food but when I travel 20 mins from my house to get good food I expect my food made well. I visited this place last week and I ordered my usual chicken tikka pizza and specially requested the gentleman not to make it spicy but when I reached home and took my first bite to my surprise it was extra spicy. Now I dont know if it happened by mistake or what but my whole trip and food was wasted. My stomach went south and my favorite food was made bad for me. Very disappointed

Yelp
I've been to Halal Guys in multiple cities but none of them are nearly as flavorful and tasty as our hometown gyros. I'm not sure how they compare to the street gyros in New York but this will always remain my favorite for NY-style chicken and rice. I typically get the lamb with a side of extra white sauce. Their chicken 65 with noodles is also great but beware - the portion is HUGE. Just keep in mind that this is a take-out only restaurant so don't come in expecting to dine-in.

Arielle W.

Yelp
I've been craving some Halal Guys for a while now, but I live in Sterling Heights so Dearborn is sometimes too far for me to drive for some food. I do, however, work in Hamtramck during the evenings and while looking for something to pickup before work, I stumbled across this place that does the rice platters like Halal Guys. So I decided to try it. The hours on Google are wrong, they are open until 10:30. I wish I would have known because I wouldn't have had to be at work so early because I wanted food. But on to the actual review... I ordered the rice platter with chicken and lamb and I asked for the white and red sauce on the side. The food was done pretty quick (I mean how long does it take to scoop rice and meat into a box). While he was packing it up, I noticed there was only red sauce on the side. I asked if they put the white sauce on the side and he proceeded to tell me that I only ordered red sauce on the side. I know what I said. I like to control the amount of sauce I have on something like that. He offered to remake it, but I ultimately went ahead and kept it. The red sauce is nowhere near hot for real. Halal guys red dice is a lot spicier. I ended up using almost the whole side of red sauce. The food is ok. Nothing to write home about. It's better than NY Halal Eats in troy. The prices are cheaper than Halal Guys tho. I would probably recommend getting extra meat tho, they were a little stingy with it. I had way too much rice for my preference. I also would have preferred to have a little diced tomato as well. I would get it again tho, if I don't feel like driving to Dearborn Heights. I kinda want to try this chicken 65 dish that they have as well.

Yelp
The NY style Gyro is super tasty, quick service and people serving are really sweet. 100% recommended

Yelp
This place isn't the best for dining in. One because it's small. Two, because it's not much to look at. My coworkers been rambling about how good the Halal Guys gyro plates are in New York and how Hamtramck is the next best thing??? I was like I HAVE to try this. It cant be THAT good. Granted it's not NEW YORK NEW YORK good, but it's good. It's own Michigander take on the gyro plate I guess and I'm loving every bite, well I did. Satisfying bowl with juicy chicken and rice served with the sauce drizzle decadently. Very pleasing to the mind, body and everything rotfl. It's going to be a guilty pleasure spot for sure. Only $4.99 what a deal. Grabbed two boxes for my husband and myself and we both really enjoyed it. The quantity's alright, workers are kind, place is clean and service was prompt. I'll have to come back to try their other goodies!!!!
google avatar

Benji M.

Yelp
Not worth the drive or cheap prices, maybe I had a bad experience but the food was literally cold and was the left over cold bits. The rice when hot was okay but nothing worth going back for.
google avatar

Dustin P.

Yelp
Great place, and not as greasy as some of the other plates around. I only wish they were open on weekends.
google avatar

Yelp
I kinda like keeping this place a secret. It has amazing fries and the chicken burger is great. And s can of pop will cost you $6 can't beat it.

Yelp
This is my go to for takeout! I'm a big fan of their Chinese menu, i always get the 3 way or sweet n spicy noodles. They have really great customer service, they've called me back multiple times to let me know when my food was ready for pick up. They have an extensive menu ranging from subs, to pizzas, noodles, fried rice, gyros, burgers, and a dollar menu as well. Everything here is halal!
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
Desi's is really weird, in a good way. The menu is kind of all over the place, but that just means you should be able to find something to suit your taste. They have a pretty good dollar menu. I like the Desi wrap which is a tiny wrap with lamb, lettuce and a ranch sauce. The beef and chicken samosas are crispy and flavorful, with just a hint of spice. The regular menu ranges from Mexican to Chinese food. The gyro sandwiches are very tasty and full of thick slices of tender lamb. One of their most popular dishes is the New York style gyro with rice. At first look nothing about this dish seems to make sense, but it really works! The pizza was also very good but the vegetables are very largely chopped which made it rather awkward. They do have on-site parking which is very limited. There's only about four spaces. One of which is usually taken by the employees. There are one or two small tables for dining-in, but it is mostly a carry out joint. The serve has always been kind and accurate. It's a great place for a meal or a quick bite.
google avatar

Sterling H.

Yelp
I tried the beef and chicken samosas. Oily, but delicious. The NY lamb/rice was excellent, as before. Everybody in line ordered the exact. same lamb/rice dish. Crappy hole in the wall joint with fresh tasting, delicious 5 star food for $6. All good.
google avatar

Dea A.

Yelp
Vikram and I found this place amusing... and one late night we decided to stop here. Because the idea of a "desi pizza" could mean soooooo many things. Like it could be ultimate win or ultimate FAIL. We saw actual Indians running the joint, so we figure -- why not? This was pretty in between. They had these samosas out that Vikram refused to let me order. And it's pretty sketchy and definitely been to cleaner taco shacks... but hey, why not. What's the worst that could happen? Food poisoning, pfft. Been there, done that. They had a chicken tikka pizza. Now this sounds like this could be really wrong, right? But that's what people first said about barbecue chicken pizza! This is even less extreme than that. It's just chicken tikka sliced up with green peppers and onions. It's pretty damn tasty. However -- I always have to consider morning after goodness. It was a soggy hot ass mess. As in inedible straight from the fridge to my mouth = into the garbage! Great experiment, chicken tikka pizza is a win combo, but it could be better.

Yelp
Been going to this place nonstop every week. First tried it the week I got back from New York. I had withdrawals from eating the Halal Guys platter in New York, and my friend recommended me this place that had something similar to what I tried at the Halal Guys. The NY style chicken/gyro at this location REALLY hit the spot.. and the first bite definitely took me back to New York. The meat along with the rice, lettuce, and white sauce made it seem like I was in New York again... Plus it was only $5-6 for that much food!! This ish is my go to place for bomb ass NY style platters after a long day of work/school. You wont be disappointed.

Yelp
I might say this a lot, but Desi Pizza is Pure Hamtramck (tm). From the misspelled name (gyro is plural, not possessive) to the huge and almost confusing menu (anything from quesadillas to chinese food) to the weird and wacky customers, it all screams Hamtramck. This place is busy! The food is cheap and plentiful and pretty damn good. I got two samosas (crisp, flaky, a little spicy), a garlic bread (sesame seeds, toasted) and a pizza boat (a calzone with tasty dough and totally filled) for less than ten bucks. I waited amongst a crew with weird hair, ill-fitting clothes and boring conversations (along with a handful of normal looking folks) about 20-25 minutes for my order. Considering that only two people were manning the whole store, it was pretty good timing. The girl who took my order was friendly, maybe a little exasperated, but on top of what she was doing. I live pretty close to here, and it's across from Steve's liquor store, so there's lots of reasons to stop. I also recommend the Chicken 65! Spicy, full of veggies, with great fried rice, also cheap and so filling.

Yelp
O my! This place is so random. After going to the Planet Ant, my friend and I came here because he said they have the best rice. When I heard him say this I thought, "I love middle eastern rice! Let's go!" There is a parking lot - sketch and the place is sketch. Anyway, this place is so random. When my friend said rice he meant Chinese fried rice! I was laughing internally! Their menu is so the most random thing ever. Pizza, hot dogs, gyro's, fried rice.... Anyway, place is made for possible armed robberies so it is a bit sketchy but the people behind the steel barrier seems pretty nice. $6 plus change for some fried rice with a middle eastern twist. Good deal. They use middle eastern rice and a lot soy sauce but it was good. Enough to feed me twice.
google avatar

Mehdi A.

Yelp
I been going to this place for years. The gyro plate or the chicken 65 are perfect for late night munchies. Those two you gotta try, I'm not kidding. Those are the type of plates you bring home to your room to devour in the dark while watching Netflix. Yeahh...definitely good Netfood (copywriting that). Plus, it's like only freakin 5 bucks and you'll be a satisfying full after eating one of those. Oh yeah and make sure to call ahead, cause sometimes they can take a good longgg minute. i should try something else on the menu.
google avatar

Barani M.

Yelp
The chicken and rice is very good for the price. The place itself could be maintained a lot better.
google avatar

Josh B.

Yelp
I'm so angry! I'm moving from Detroit next month and I've just now found this place! I've driven past it 3 times a week for 2 years and never stopped. This place is sooo incredibly good. The NYC style mixed lamb/chicken rice place is spectacular and an amazing value. It's pretty spot on to The Halal Guys food cart from New York. The white sauce would make the styrofoam box taste good and is perfect with the stripe of hot sauce. Don't let the outside fool you this place is well worth going out of your way for.
google avatar

Reeti C.

Yelp
The gyros here taste great. I don't come here as often because I don't live in Hamtramck. Though, I do stop to try when I am hungry for gyro to go. They do have a seating area but fairly small. This is more of a take-out concept. There are a few places I go to Hamtramck to eat, and this is def on my list. Will be back.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Ahhhh, desi pizza. They have absolutely everything I want to eat late at night when I'm craving greasy food, and sometimes things I didn't know I wanted. Also, they serve chicken 65, which is usually a pain for me to find! So extra points for that.
google avatar

Shar G.

Yelp
Hi the device was amazing, I ordered the famous gyro and rice it was delicious but was rice was a bit cold. I also tried samosa... both chicken and beef was delicious! I will definitely going back! It's cheap, filling, and yummy!!
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
Excellent multi-cultural options. This place does great Gyro plates (Lamb or Chicken) for only $4.99. It comes in a take out box like you'd get from any restaurant, it's the half-size, and doesn't seem as deep as some trays - that doesn't mean it's not enough food, I just want to be clear about the portion - plenty for one, maybe not for 2 people. What do you want for 5 bucks? Even here, which is very close to many other greek offerings, i find the Gyro to be the tops. It's New York Style, the picture of it here is very representative of what you'll get. You'll also find some pretty excellent chinese food -- Chicken 65 is the perfect level of spicy for those wanting something with a kick, and some tasty Samosas that usually come in Beef or Chicken. The place is not to be judged by its' appearance, which admittedly is not exactly welcoming. But don't come here for the ambiance, get take out or, if somehow you can't get in, they do deliver too. As a Hamtramck resident, i find myself coming here about 3 times a month. Very good, affordable food with no fuss.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
If you're from the east coast like me, you might be craving some $5 chicken/lamb and rice lunchtime combos from a reliable greasy food truck. This is the closest metro Detroit can offer outside of Dearborn. Combos will run you about $6 and change. If you're nice to the cashier, she might give you a little bit more meat but on average, they do tend to skimp. Side salad is just iceberg lettuce. White sauce is standard halal, red sauce is sriracha. A quick lunchtime spot, enjoy!
google avatar

Faraz M.

Yelp
This is more of a carry out place, so dont turn away because of the interior. As for the food, i had the lamb gyro over rice, extra meat and extra spicy, which was very good in terms of taste. I dont know how authentic it is to the NYC version, but this tasted good. I wish they would've put more meat in though. I barely had any in my order and I had ordered extra meat for an additional $2. I cant imagine how much they put if you go with the regular. Also, the extra spicy added the right kick of flavor. You guys should try that. I also ordered the chicken 65, sweet and spicy chicken, and the chicken noodles (all of these were under the chinese category on the menu). They all tasted good, just not great. Worth the money i guess (5.99 each). One thing that bothers me is that they take a bit of time to have your orders ready. I usually have to call 20-25 min in advance. That might be because its like only 1-2 ppl working there. They are very nice though, so I appreciate that. Overall, food is decent, so I'd rate it 4 stars for taste but i took off one star because of the quantity issue and the time. Definitely worth a try though
google avatar

Baian T.

Yelp
Came here for tikka pizza but they had run out of pizza dough, HOWEVER tried what they had as their number one menu item which was chicken gyro plate and I'm so glad I had it!! Finished it in seconds!! The white sauce and hot sauce complimented each other in the best way possible, I would say this is halal comfort food!
google avatar

Yelp
When multiple cultures influence each other, good things happen to the food. Case in point is Hamtramck's latest, Desi Pizza, where Bangladesi cuisine influences good old American fast food favorites, like pizza, hamburgers, and fried rice. Truth be told, there are so many food cultures influencing each other around here, it would border on the ridiculous to mention them all -- so we'll pretend it's a straight Bangla-U.S. cross section. This carryout-only restaurant provides Halal-quality meat, and that means good quality. I've only tried the chicken tikka pizza so far, but I was very happy with the marriage of the spices of chicken tikka on a medium-thickness seasoned pizza crust -- nicely balanced and complementary flavors. They also offer halal-quality hamburgers and lamb burgers, and some Chinese favorites such as fried rice and noodles, a couple of Mexican offerings, Coney dogs, shakes (with flavors such as mango, blueberry, and banana), and samosas influenced by Detroit flavors: that means chili-cheese samosas. Can't wait to try that! With such a diverse menu, my only concern is that they might be spreading themselves a bit too thin. Time will tell and if the menu eventually shrinks, I would not be surprised. However, we will take advantage of their bounty while we can and hope for the best. I am very pleased to add them to Yelp. Oh yeah: Free delivery on orders more than $10 within the geographic area. Added: Tikka pizza is great cold! Also added: The chili-cheese samosas were a revelation! They should sell them as a special on Superbowl Sunday, but if they don't you should buy a quantity for your own party!
google avatar

Ross K.

Yelp
This little hole-in-the-wall is the best value in Hamtramck. I've never tried the pizza because I can't get past how good the lamb gyro with rice is. They also have a great dollar menu if you only have a handful of change.
google avatar

Myles G.

Yelp
This is delicious!!!!! I had the lamb gyro plate. Very tasty and presentation was beautiful. A go to any time I'm craving Halal Guys from NYC.
google avatar

Rajon M.

Yelp
This place may not be the ideal place to sit down and eat, but it is certainly a place to grab food from and go. Whenever I was in New York, I would always order Gyro off of the street vendors. In Detroit, I cant find good Gyro anywhere! This place has the best! The meat is cooked to perfection, the rice is fragrant, and the sauce is creamy! They also sell Chicken 65, which is also the best I've tasted so far. It is very spicy and makes your mouth water. Desi Pizza also sells pizza, but theyre not as good as their other menu items.
google avatar

Sofia S.

Yelp
This place is such a sleeper hit! I never even knew it existed until my friend took me there for ... I admit I dont even know what we get but it is the most delicious thing I have put in my mouth in a long time. GO HERE.
google avatar

Teya T.

Yelp
Filling and good price, the guy taking the order is nice, and it's a great place for takeout.
google avatar

Yaman A.

Yelp
Great food! Go for the NY Style Gyro with rice, the chicken tikka masala pizza, or the chicken ranch pizza. Four stars because alot of times they are not open when they are supposed to be. Also they close on Sundays.

Afjalur R.

Yelp
Probably one of the best places in the town. The variety of items and the price range for items are just unbelievable. This place might not be the perfect place for dining in but can provide some awesome tastes in your mouth.
google avatar

Imran F.

Yelp
Great menu, huge selection. Excellent food and service! Would highly recommend!

Ashley H.

Yelp
You can not go wrong with anything from here. Their Lamb Gyro plate is by far my fav. Sometimes they dont have some of the smaller deep friend items but I am okay with that becuase at least I know they're not sitting around in a freezer. The guy that works in there is amazing at what he does you see him cooking everything himself from scratch. The only reason they dont get a 5 stars is because out of the 8 times I've traveled here 3 of the times they were closed when it stated they should be open. As someone else said its a small hot dining area so take out is best.
google avatar

Narita S.

Yelp
This is a different kind of review because I have never been their restaurant but had their food delivered. I go to Wayne State where so many of my friends go on and on about how great Desi Pizza is but despite going to college in Detroit for 3 years, I never had a chance to try it. This changed the night me and my friends were studying late at the undergraduate library. My friend wanted to get desi pizza delivered but they said they don't usually deliver for just one order. So I pulled up their menu online and made the quick decision to get the Sweet and Sour Chicken with fried rice. They said it would take them an hour to deliver but we were fine with that. They made it very easy for us to order over the phone by letting us give our debit card numbers and all we had to do was sign the receipt when the delivery guy came. My meal was so delicious! Usually, I am meh about Chinese food but this was so good in all ways. The fried rice was cooked perfectly, the sauce on the chicken was delicious, and they had sauteed the green peppers and onions to perfection. You got a lot for your money too. I am definitely a fan of their food now, I just have to go to their actual restaurant now. Also, delivery guy told us to write a review on here.
google avatar

Trina C.

Yelp
Great takeout food, I order from here frequently. I wouldn't say their gyro over rice is NY-style, but it's still very good. I usually order that, the chicken noodles or the chicken 65 which is pretty spicy.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
If you live or work in Detroit, you must try Desi Pizza! When a co-worker first took me here, I was a little apprehensive. After tasting the food, I've been a regular customer ever since! I have a hard time visiting Desi Pizza and not ordering the The New York Style Gyro and Rice. It's simply fantastic--ask for extra white sauce and extra hot sauce. Great food, the prices are great and the owner is extremely friendly.
