I have been wanting to try this spot for a minute and it did not disappoint! I took my mom here today on this drizzly afternoon. We parked on the street nearby because there's not a ton of parking in the gas station, and we walked up to the counter to order. The folks working there were very friendly, kind, and surprisingly attentive.
While we were waiting, they gave us free tea that was sweet and tasted like it was spiced with cardamom and maybe cinnamon and cloves. It was the perfect drink to sip on while waiting for our food. At first I was just sharing one cup with my mom but then they asked if I wanted my own and I could not resist because it was delicious.
I'm vegetarian and it was totally clear what items had meat and what didn't, so at first we just ordered a falafel wrap with fries. This felt too basic because you can get decent falafel a lot of places, and I wanted to get something else that was more reflective of their yemenj cooking. We ended up asking if either of the bean options had meat and were told they did not, so we added an order of the foul beans. When asked for how spicy we wanted the falafel and the beans, we said spicy.
The food:
The falafel wrap was pretty tasty! I liked that it didn't fall apart too easily, and there was a good balance of falafel, tomato, etc. Even though we asked for spicy, it was not spicy at all, but luckily they gave us 3 containers of hot sauce that really added to the wrap.
The fries were pretty basic, but the sauce that came with them was spicy and creamy and delicious.
The foul was obviously the star, savory and spiced like a warm hug. It wasn't super spicy in terms of heat, but just enough to make your nose run a little. It also came with some good pita for dipping.
I am so glad we decided to stop by and I'm so glad I live nearby and can come back again soon!
