Turkish Feast Newcomer Turquaz Opens in San Francisco’s SoMa Neighborhood | Eater SF

"Opened at the end of January inside the former Amarin space as the second business from owners Sudai Ma and Isaming Deng; the menu brings hand-pulled noodles and big plates of chicken and weaves Persian, Turkish, Mongolian and Chinese cuisines together, according to the Peninsula Foodist." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Great tasting authentic Xinjiang food. We got a variety of dishes and everything tasted great. Lamb on rice and the pearl noodles were perfect. They offer a floor sitting option as well. The place is run by one hostess who is also the waitress as well and she did a great job bussing all 10+ tables. Always prompt to help clear our table of empty dishes and gave us extra napkins when she noticed us running out. Enjoy the food and service, everything is top notch.

Wonderful food! The meat in all the dishes was very flavorful, and I absolutely need to come again to try more. The noodles had great texture, the xiao long bao paired well with soy ginger sauce, the lamb kebab was crispy on the outside and tender inside, and I was gnawing on the lamb shank bone like a caveman by the end :)

Came at a Saturday around 1PM. the place was 70% empty. All the food were mediocre: Homemade yogurt: fine ($6.98 before tax) Super Spice Fish with added naan: very flavorful, but the fish was too firm. The naan was unremarkable. ($64.97 before tax) a bit too pricy Cold yellow noodle lamb kebab: I liked the lamb but not the cold noodle ($19.98 before tax) Service was good.

Came here with my spouse and 6yo and ordered the Laghman, lamb shank polo, cucumber salad, lamb kebab skewers, chicken xiao long bao, and the yoghurt. They use a toast ordering system with a QR code on the table. Yogurt came out really fast and had honey and raisins on top. My 6yo devoured it. Next came the Laghman and lamb shank polo. Laghman noodles had great texture. Beef was tender. Dish overall flavorful. Wasn't spicy so my kid can have some as well. The flavored rice turned out to be the star of the lamb shank polo. It was very delicious with sweetness and savory at the same time. Lamb shank was off the bone but lacked flavor. Cucumbers in the cucumber salad was fresh. Very garlicky. Good flavor. Lamb kebab skewer also flavorful. It was good and on par with similar dish you get at other places. Chicken xiao long bao came last. We ordered it mostly for my kid, but he got too full by then. It was okay, so I'd order it again for my kid but not for myself. While the server didn't come check in much throughout the meal, when we got our check, she was very friendly and came to help us box our leftovers up to go. The restaurant also has a loyalty program that gives you 10% back for your next visit. We'll definitely go back to try other dishes!

Great vibe, peaceful and spacious seating. They have digital menu where you can order and food is served by servers pretty quickly. Food is spectacular and portion is big. I also feel prices are quite reasonable. Must visit for delicious cuisine.

We came on Saturday for lunch and indie seats are all busy so we opted for outdoor seating and it’s nice and fresher. Highly recommend the Cumin Spicy Fish with naan bread. I had better halal Chicken Xiao LongBao. Service is excellent and server helped pack the spicy fish sauce. All halal and owner is very friendly.

4.5 Stars Visited Halal Street on a Sunday for lunch and went with the AYCE option at $24.95—such a great value! The buffet tables had an impressive variety, and everything was fresh and well-stocked. In addition to the usual hotpot ingredients, they even offered a solid selection of hot food items: the fried rice was very good, the chicken katsu was juicy, and the steamed buns, spring rolls, and sesame balls were all tasty and satisfying. What really sets this place apart is the thoughtful extras: complimentary boba tea and fresh-churned Turkish-style ice cream were a fantastic bonus. Plus, there’s no time limit for the all-you-can-eat experience, which is a rare and welcome policy. It gave us the chance to enjoy our meal without feeling rushed, especially since it takes a little while for the hotpot broth to come to a boil. The only downside was that some of the stoves weren’t working properly. One of our hotpots never boiled, and we had to switch tables mid-meal, which was a bit inconvenient. Hopefully, that gets resolved soon. Still, overall a great spot for AYCE hotpot with excellent variety, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

Google
food was 10/10! we thought we overordered but ended up clearing every plate. everything was that good. the flavors are bold, ingredients are fresh, and overall just super satisfying. service was great too. everyone was kind and super efficient. i saw a few reviews about the service, and as someone who’s eaten at a lot of authentic asian restaurants, it’s pretty standard not to have someone checking in every five minutes. personally, i prefer that—it lets me actually enjoy the food in peace. you have to order the sautéed green beans, the spicy cumin fish, and the naan bread. my sister-in-law is also vegetarian and was able to enjoy a full meal here too. the garlic sautéed bok choy was also a favorite!

Yelp
We started with the beef dumplings: SO flavorful and juicy! We got these entrees -Mongolian Beef: tender, veggies were a great consistency, not spicy but strong Szechuan flavor! -Stir fry noodles: VERY flavorful, very large portion size - shared with the table, beef was tender, not very spicy, which I enjoyed because I could taste all the other flavors, not too saucy which was perfect for this dish -laghman: good dish for someone who likes a light loose sauce They gave us yogurt cups after dinner on the house. Homemade yogurt- very high quality taste Seating was comfortable! Prayer space available Staff were super nice and helpful! Service was great!

Yelp
Meh, this one was just OK. I've had a ton of authentic Xinjiang including a bunch in China as it's one of my favorite cuisines. Decided to come here after work with a couple of friends who work in the downtown Castro area. I felt like the flavors on the dishes we ordered were all off compared to what they should have been. The only thing that was very good was the yogurt. Fried naan with lamb was decent but honestly that one's hard to mess up. The big plate chicken -- too salty, not enough cumin, didn't add a good helping of red onion and bell pepper which is the classic requirement for this dish. Laghman came out tasting somewhat sour -- probably because of an overdose of vinegar added to the dish -- also not right. The smell of MSG is literally wafting through the entire restaurant from the moment you walk in too. Would not come back.

Yelp
I really like Xinjiang/uyghur food because it mixes some Chinese influence with ingredients found in Arab countries. We were the first party when they opened at 5 pm and super excited to try this place after our former favorite - Sama in Newark closed during the pandemic. Food overall was really delicious and not overly salty. Unfortunately a lot of items on menu were out of stock so I hope they work on the sourcing issues that don't seem to affect their other locations. In terms of what we got, here's what I would rank from most to least favorite: 1) stir fried noodles (comes with beef) - the sauce is not spicy at all and fragrant. The noodles taste freshly made which made this a pleasure to eat 2) naan stir fried lamb - most naan were crispy on outside and soft on inside, meaning they were not stale. The lamb portion is on the smaller side and not as interesting but I could keep snacking on the naan part. 3) gosh naan - essentially lamb mincemeat pie, this flaky pastry had a nice, slightly sweet aroma and filled with nicely seasoned ground lamb. 4) roasted lamb (requested no spicy) - came with cumin dipping powder. Most pieces were tender but there were a few more chewier ones. I would like to try the lamb shank instead next time. We really wanted the tower of lamb skewers but they were not selling them this day. At other location I've had the skewers but they were way too spicy so I wanted to request no spicy. This dish is a different cut of meat. 5) stir fried beans - your typical crispy stir fried string beans but with a lot of garlic. As expected, service isn't the strongest suit as we needed to ask for refill of water pitcher and to chase the wait staff down for box and check. However, finally found a new go to Xinjiang food place so will return. Saw lots of people order whole fish so need to do that next time! Also wow, they had full house not too long after we started eating so it's a good sign.

Yelp
Very decent Xinjiang food! We ordered two appetizers and two entrees, ended up having a lot of leftovers for to go. Everything we ordered was really good. The lamb and rice is absolutely my favorite. The meat is tender and flavorful! The chicken dish is also pretty authentic. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I got interested in visiting the place when saw through the windows the tables with a sitting on the carpet. These are tables for 6+ groups only. It was very easy to order through the qr-code creating the group order for the table. We happened to come 30 minutes before closure and after 15 minutes after ordering where only one person out of the group received their plate, we have been asked to pay upfront. The food came after approx. 10 minutes after only. The quality was okay, many options in the menu were out of stock.

Yelp
The male server at the front desk has an ignorant attitude toward customers. He was at our table, and we asked him to help removing a plate. Even though repeated for a second time, he pretend didn't hear anything and just walk away. They also serve dessert before main dish, and the desert is nothing special. Just greek yogurt with raisin and honey. Nothing related to Halal or Xinjiang.

Yelp
Came at night with my fiance. Had just played table tennis and so I was ravenous. We decided to try this as it's close to our house, and stands out a lot from the other food options available on castro. The interior of the restaurant is pretty nice- the utensils are gold plated (for some reason), and tables all have paper mats. The service folks are very well dressed. We interacted with 2 guys and 2 ladies. We ordered 3 dishes in total. The first 2 dishes came reasonably fast. StirNan chicken: this was mindblowing. We love spicy, and the fried spicy nan and chicken were incredible; chicken was juicy, nan was crispy like tofu. 5/5 would get again. Mapo tofu: man the tofu was super silky. Not blocky like regular tofu. The seasoning was also amazing, great spice, and meat was good, as well as sauce. 5/5 would get it again. Now our last dish, it took literally 30 minutes to get. The servers forgot about this order, then when it did come (after we asked), the guy servers almost gave it to the wrong table... flat noodle stir fry: dish was too salty. Hard to fix that. Flavor was ok and noodle was QQ but I've had better. Portions are generally...big? Not sure how other folks had small dishes but every dish we saw was huge. I guess the noodles were the smallest. Overall, a solid trip and a 4* review. If they fixed their noodle's seasoning and fixed the service, it could be a 5.

Yelp
Came here with a party of 9 for a late Sunday lunch upon my friend's recommendation for authentic xinjiang cuisine. It wasn't too crowded, so we got seated in 5-10 mins after we chose to sit at the more decorative tables (which come with a 20% gratuity FYI) since we were already large enough for gratuity charge. Our waitress was pretty patient in explaining the menu and taking orders, which you can either do with a QR code or with the server. Food came out relatively fast, starting with some lamb and beef entrees and then some shareable appetizers. Portions were decent, the apps came with 4 servings (like the stuffed naan and the baked meat buns) though the food does tend to be more oily. I especially liked the knife cut noodles and so we added on a tomato fish hotpot with a side of noodles to dip in the sauce. I'd give this place more of a 4.5/5 because I felt it was somewhat pricey for what you get - the tomato fish was $50+ and the entrees are around $20, so our per head cost ended up being $30+. But my friend who recommended it really liked the food. service was good, and it's a cool experience to eat around a low table so I'm glad I got to check it out!

Yelp
We tried this place not too long ago and it seemed to have just opened. There was a short line for seating on a Saturday afternoon around lunch and the place was popular on Castro. The menu for this place was a bit limited and it seemed like every dish was a slightly variation of one another. We got the lamb stir fry with naan(?) and a noodle dish. The noodles were quite spicy and we couldn't really finish them because of how spicy they were. Everyone seemed to be getting the same thing so we thought we would order the same. While the dishes were flavorful (cumin!), they all tasted quite similar and they were also a bit too greasy for our liking.

Yelp
Service was a bit messy and slow even on a quiet Tuesday night. Food was just mediocre, we had the stirred fried green bean, it was okay The lamb naan was really bad, naan was tasteless and hard. There's more naan than the lambs meat. Overall the dishes were small portion, made it kind of pricey.

Yelp
Mixed feelings about this place, but it's definitely a solid 4 in terms of food (unless you get unlucky and ordered all wrong items). They have WiFi, btw, if you struggle with the signal there. I LOVED the first two dishes we tried. I would've given them 5-stars based on those two dishes because it was perfectly spicy + flavorful and the consistency/texture of the dishes were great. The stir fried naans were pretty unique to me, and I loved it how perfectly crispy/crunchy it is on the outside yet doughy on the inside. However, the third dish - which I thought would be what they'd specialize in, was not that good. It didn't feel like it was fully cooked (or maybe that's just how their noodle textures are like, but some halves of the noodle were softer than other). The flavor was also not that memorable. It also wasn't spicy enough so we had to add more spice to it. Portion wise, it was very filling. Two dishes + rice would've definitely be enough. Some of their menu item seems pretty pricey, but I took a glimpse at other tables and those portion were HUGE so it might be worth it? Not sure, but I'm definitely going to try next time. Service - inconsistent. The waitresses were really good and fast at taking care of problems. For example, one of the waiter wanted us to wait for a table to clear up (customers just left, and there were dirty dishes), but the waitress saw us waiting so she immediately took it into her hand to clear a closer table (dirty dishes were gone, but not completely "ready" yet). Not sure why we weren't just shown the easier-to-clean table first. Also, the other waiter seems to be new, so his memory wasn't great. He immediately forgot to bring us the things we asked for after few seconds (he had to drop a second dish off somewhere first). Yes, it was obvious he forgot because after he dropped off the dish, he just stood there and waited. It happened twice where we had to ask for things multiple times. There's definitely potential though, so maybe it's because they're still new and figuring things out.

Yelp
Food was good, service is great. Way too pricey, expect baby size portions for each order.

Yelp
Highly recommended the spicy fish dish. It was very flavorful and it comes with tofu and beancurd too. Service is very attentive. We sat at the tatami seating and had a great time. We will definitely come back again. P/s: they also have a sister restaurant in Newark that has hotpot.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! Super flavorful, a bit salty but overall super tasty. We got their big plate chicken, noodles, stir fried lamb with naan and baos. Everything came out quickly and tasted great. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal. The green beans were the best I've ever had. Flavor was spot on! Service was top notch. Decor is beautiful. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I just read about Halal street in the Mountain View voice this week, and they're still in the soft opening phase. They took over the old Amarin Thai space on Castro. I'm surprised they only have a single 2 star review for this location because it was pretty full on a Saturday during lunch. I wanted to try more of the fish and meat dishes, but we needed a quick lunch with kids, so we focused on carbs. - Pearl noodles: little diced up noodles with a good bite and a beef broth sauce - Stir fried flat noodles: hand pulled belt noodles with a nice bite and flavorful sauce and lots of stir fried beef and peppers - Stir fried green beans: good flavor and nice blistering on the beans Ordering is by QR code, but payment is with the server. My phone signal wasn't great, so it was kind of annoying to navigate the menu on my phone, but I appreciate the pictures on the menu. The server was nice, and food came out pretty quickly. I would definitely come back for those belt noodles!

Yelp
I like some food there, great noodles(lagman), do not buy the tiniest samsas ever, they are too expensive for their tiny size. Service is terrible, front desk is extremely rude like you are there begging for food! Overall, whole experience was not good.

Yelp
I came here a few days ago for lunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had the boneless big plate chicken which I have observed to be a specialty for Xinjiang restaurants - flavor was really good! Also the lamb polo and bokchoy, great flavor overall. This restaurant is a good addition to Castro Street and I hope more people find out about it.

Yelp
Best Halal food I tried in the US. Must try the fish hot pot and noodles with icy Kavss drink.

Yelp
Food was ok but service was really bad. We had 8 dishes the time difference between first dish and last dish was 42min. Don't recommend this place at all if you are a big party.

Yelp
Very clean and comfortable environment, good service, while the price is too expensive
