Lunchtime perfection! Hit all the right notes and left nothing to be desired except another sandwich (if only these weren't so unhealthy!)
I ordered a Smashville.
The chicken was hot, fresh, tender, and very flavorful. The spice blend is legit! I could smell this deliciousness from a foot away as I prepared to devour this thing. Speaking of: the heat level is on point! As someone for whom Tobasco tastes like salty vinegar, it was enough to warm the mouth but not enough to have me chugging or even reaching for the water. (Be advised: your mileage may vary).
The shredded lettuce ("Shrettuce"), sauce, and pickles were solid. They added a balance of freshness and additional moisture, so it wasn't all bread and meat. As a pickle lover, next time, I will order extra!
I also award them points for execution! For a lunchtime grab that is eaten on the go, the sando was very well assembled. The ingredients were not doing their darndest to escape, and neither were the juices. Believe it or not, even as someone who goes through napkins like a ShopVac, this was neat enough that I could dispense with them. The precision assembly is even more impressive, considering this was amid a lunchtime rush. Speaking of:
Despite a large lunchtime crowd at HSP, these folks kept the line moving and the sandwiches cranking out. Especially impressive considering how fresh everything was. The wait was much less than I expected!
Finally, there is the question of value. $12 for a sandwich of this quality is terrific. The location cannot be understated either since this is downtown Boston.
Haley Jane's is sure to become a quick favorite when I'm craving a hot chicken sandwich, especially since I work (almost) next door. When quality, value, and execution all hit the nail on the head, what more can you ask for.
