Hall Of Flame Review - Parkmerced - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"When it’s past 9pm and you’re craving a hefty meal on the west side of the city, the pickings are a bit slim—enter Hall Of Flame. This sports-themed Parkmerced burger and hot dog joint has set up shop in a tiny strip mall location that’s more reminiscent of LA than SF, but with a lot more wind and fog. Open until 11pm every day of the week, Hall Of Flame is the place to get a juicy cheeseburger like the classic Buzzer Beater with tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickles, or the messy (but worth it) Slapshot chili dog, all while sitting underneath a massive mural honoring the Warriors and Giants." - Ricky Rodriguez

Really wanted to enjoy this place however it was merely okay. The burger was cooked medium-well with just a slight amount of pink, exactly how I like it which is a plus. It was a fresh thick hand made patty and the quality of the meat was on the better side. The burger itself was rather bland, it didn’t seem to be seasoned which was disappointing. The price is steep and it wasn’t flavorful enough to warrant a second visit. Perhaps they were having an off day or simply forgot to season the meat, but it left a not so great impression. The fries were also just ‘okay’, nothing to write home about but not offensive; your average fries. Which again for the price that you pay the meal didn’t seem worth it.

Food was really good. A classic juicy burger. Really fun since everything is sports themed. We got burgers before hitting a round of golf. Perfect start to the afternoon. Will be back again

Tengo años de venir a este lugar y aproveche para comentar que las hamburguesas estan 😋 I like the Ally-Oop because it has avocado. The staff is the best, siempre atienden con mucha amabilidad ☺️ Ingles o español, but since my native language is Spanish I prefer when they talk to me in Spanish ❤️ I love the milkshakes, but if you are a beer person, they also have tap or bottle 🍻 They close at 11pm, don't forget to tip the hard worker staff 😎

Google
Very tasty American style food with a sports bar kinda theme. Burgers are tasty and very filling. The fries are absolutely some of the best I've ever had and even the ketchup is better tasting than a lot of other places I've been to. Service and atmosphere are great and presentation is spectacular. They even have milkshakes of variety to boot. Close proximity to SFSU so if you're hungering while studying go check it out.

Google
Hall of Flame is a neat little neighborhood burger restaurant. The chef did a great job with my burger. I had their ally-oop burger (avocado, bacon cheese burger) $13.75. Substituting the regular fries for chili cheese fries $2.95. A pint of Stella $6. Total was $24.66 not counting tip. The 1/2 pound burger was juicy, seasoned and had a good charbroiled taste. The vegetables had a fresh snap to them. I moved on to the chili cheese fries. It was a challenge to finish them after eating that big burger. They were pretty good with the little pieces of fresh onion, ground meat and soft beans. Service was excellent. Good job everyone at Hall of Flame.

Google
This is one of the best burger place. It's order to cook and to how well or medium you like it to be. The fries are great, too. And it's a 1/2lb burger. It will stuff you good. Will definitely come back and try another one.

Google
Very good food. Nice and messy like we like it! Grilled hot dog is way too good. Even plain. Get it all in this one location and all kinds of goodies right outside.

Google
Service is always great! Super yummy fries and shakes as well. The burger could use a little more sauce but overall great place!

Yelp
Living by CCSF over the past year, I've seen hall of flame pop up numerous times on DoorDash and whenever I stop by Stiizy and wonder if this place really is that good. The neighborhood is saturated with burger options across the spectrum of fast food like Shake Shack (which we hate) to classics like Beeps and Calibur (which we also aren't huge fans of), so a place like hall of flame really can't be that good? The pictures also don't look so awesome, it can't be good? It has to just be the spot that the SFSU kids go to since it's coseby? Looking for late dinner options on DoorDash last night, I bit the bullet and made my order. I grabbed the one that's just the classic cheeseburger with regular fries and ordered an extra side of sweet potato fries because we were just in that mood and wanted to try both. The onion rings has their praises on here but my stomach wasn't feeling it as much as the sweet potato yesterday. I saw that you could upgrade the regular fries to a basket for $3ish more, so I wondered if the fries that came with the burger would be enough if I hadn't ordered the extra side. We placed the order and then we waited to see. Upon opening the bag, I already knew this might be good. The reg fries were fairly generous but the sweet potato basket was huge. The burger itself was fairly big and the burger looked normal, but what would it taste like? Man that burger was so good. I couldn't believe it. Don't let the looks fool you. It was quality meat on a quality bun and the lettuce, tomato and onions were just the right amount to not completely overpower the burger. The burger tasted like the ones I would get back home in Fremont from this place called Bob's giant burgers and had a restaurant quality feel but in a mom and pop, which we love. The regular fries were very crispy and are the McDonald's cut, which most restaurants somehow still f*** up because they come soggy on delivery. My brother used to own a cheesesteak shop so when I saw the fries come in paper bags, I knew immediately they knew what's up, compared to Beeps which packs it in a styrofoam container and sog up by the time you get home. The oil they used tasted clean and fresh until Beeps. Idk why but the fries there taste like dirty grease and I'm trying really hard to love Beeps since it's right next door to my house. The sweet potato fries were a thicker cut and were perfectly devoured in seconds. Don't sleep on Hall of Flames. I'm a big burger enthusiast, and I will say I would even throw this burger into the top 20, which includes burgers from Au Cheval in Chicago. Found my new take out spot for burgers.

Yelp
Tucked away by SF state and hidden away in the fog is a gem of a burger. Hall of flame has mostly classic burgers, with Niman ranch burger Pattie's (yum). I ordered the humdinger, which has a generous helping of mushrooms on top. My boyfriend and I were craving the same burger so the only difference was his was medium and mine was medium rare. Both were so juicy. As soon as we bit in, our hands were splashed. The house salad was yummy with a light and balanced dressing that is neither too sweet nor too acidic. Quite large for the price! The service and ambiance are what you expect from a casual burger spot. They're quick and kind; the chairs and cups are plastic. But if you're just looking for a quick, casual burger while watching some sports, this is the spot.

Yelp
I enjoyed my Chili Davis burger with a side of Chili fries today. Although it was not the best Chili burger setup (I removed the cold tomato slices and lettuce leaves after my first bite), it was quite a vibrant display of colors once my order arrived, which made the meal something to look forward to. The fries were great, and you could tell that everything was fresh and well-made. The service was superb, and the ambiance was more of a pleasant carry out kitchen pit stop-and-go location and not so much of a dine-in experience unless you work here and are on a lunch break. I mean, to be fair, I almost broke my neck attempting to watch the TV above my table

Yelp
Decent average burgers. Not gourmet but not fast food. I was expecting more but worth a try if you're in the area.

Yelp
STILL GOOD AS EVER. Got a Medium rare burger and they even threw in some free fries, burger cooked to perfection, juicy, thick meat and a whole lot of FLAVOR. Fries are way better than anywhere you'll try in my opinion. This is a mandatory go to spot.

Yelp
Roller coaster of emotions. First off and least important - the food was delicious. The onion rings were close to perfect. Secondly, and far more important. Timeline: Bring burger home. Unwrap. Get upset with myself for not asking for ranch/other condiments. Eat said burger and fries/onion rings with the side of ketchup I asked for. Burger was bomb. Onion rings were delicious. As stated before, that doesn't matter. While cleaning up, I reached in the bottom of the bag and found little bundle wraps of all the condiments. Beautiful. Just gorgeous. But then, I kept scrounging and found a side of ranch. Now it may not be important to you... but I didn't ask for ranch. I no longer expect ranch because, well, restaurant just don't "give out" free ranch nowadays. But Hall of Flame Burger... Oh Hall of Flame Burgers... you did it. And you know you did it. You lured me in. You teased me. And you freaking pulled through. Not cause the burger was dank or the onion rings were exquisite. It's the little things. The little things that matter. It's the ranch that matters, guys. If I could give 36 stars, I would.

Yelp
Ordered in person. Got asked what temp I wanted my burgers. I said medium rare. Proceeded to sit there and watch the people who ordered after me get their burgers, while mine were sitting there getting charred. Rather than say something, I figured the cook knew what he was doing. Turns out he didn't know, since my burgers came out dry and past well done. Recommend going to Beeps or In and Out before coming here.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this just didn't satisfy our burger cravings like we had hoped. Saw all the amazing reviews on Yelp and thought to give it a try. We ordered the Buzzer Beater and the Humdinger (asked for medium rare but the patties came out more medium well) and swapped out one of the fries for garlic fries. The garlic fries were just regular fries but tossed in a bit of garlic, not much difference sadly. The burger itself was okay, but personally we thought it needed a bit more salt and cheese. Not sure if it was just an odd day, but it definitely seemed to be popular as tons of people came in while we waited for our order.

Yelp
very solid burgers and very good shakes, not the fanciest place but can expect a good meal each time. would try if in the area.
google avatar

Geri S.

Yelp
I love the fries! Hot, thin, and crispy is BEST. 1/2 pound burger is perfectly medium-rare as requested in my HumDinger. I think I'm in Love...perfect to share.
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Ordered a Humdinger with fries and a side of onion rings. The burger was pretty big and juicy but I don't think there's anything special about the flavor of the burger itself, especially since I didn't notice any use of condiments or sauces. The fries were kind of bland and on the soft side, I think they would have been better if they were crispier. The onion rings were good, I loved the crispy batter.

Yelp
Man, it's unfortunate that I have to type this review, but my last order triggered me to do so. I'm a long time customer of this place. I been going here since they opened. Shakes were on point, burgers were juicy and the chili cheese fries were doused in beans & chili. The atmosphere of this place made you feel welcome with all the creativity in decorations along the walls and multiple TV screens with different games. Since the management change, my orders have been either incorrect or an item was not added, cooked wrong, and my shake or chili cheese fries were incorrectly made. They make their chili sweeter and don't douse them like they used to. What happened to the strawberry Oreo shakes? There's just graffiti'd murals all over now and the TVs will usually show the same game when I'm in. I know change happens for a reason and I was open to it. I just miss the vibe of this place. Also, I order medium well all the time...this is the burger I get. Does that look like medium well to you??? Sheesh.
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Lunch after a golf game. We all had burgers which were very good and cooked to our order. One of the burgers was requested medium well with jack cheese but the burger came with American cheese and was taken back and she had to wait approximately another 15 mins for Hall of Flame to remake the order. I ordered medium Buzzer Beater and it was cooked exactly as ordered and I asked for extra-crispy french fries which was cooked perfect also. I asked for receipt to be sent to my email and when I got home and looked at the receipt in my email, they charged me for 2 fountain drinks that I did not order. I called back to inform Hall of Flame of their error. They said they would credit me and it might take 3 days to show a credit. Then I happen to tell some of the other eaters and when they checked their receipt they were also charged for fountain drinks that they did not order? Is it coincidence or is this something that goes on? They would surely make a few extra bucks all the time? Hopefully we will get our refund?

Yelp
That was so good got the fried chicken sandwich. Nice service fresh food so glad i came here for break instead of sf state cafeteria. Will be back.

Yelp
Great food done right with nice staff at a fair price. The food really was good. I had the chili dog and the family had the burgers. They were grilled in front of us and served in a decent amount of time. The dog was also loaded. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even put one of the playoff games on for a patron walked in! The place is small but plenty of seating for couples or single people. Only a couple tables where you could all sit a group of four or more together. The prices were fair I think. It's California what's not expensive here. But I think for all that you get it's fair. For a meal with fries and a drink of three it was around 50 including tax. Definitely worthy of a regular stop of your live in the area. And if visiting and you want a burger try this local shop over a chain restaurant.

Yelp
Good service and fast burgers! Hum-Dinger Burger: Two slices of Swiss cheese, half pound patty on a sesame seed bun and fries "Buzzer Beater" burger: Two slices of cheddar cheese, half pound patty on a sesame seed bun and fries Juicy burgers! Note: Manager said they do not have ice but you can ask for a cold glass for your beverage. Parking is a plus
google avatar

Yelp
A bit pricey but worth the cost if you're not too budget-pinched. Quality burgers and sandwiches and very nice staff. Great stop if you happen to be in the area.
google avatar

Elisa R.

Yelp
i'm sorry but this is literally the grossest burgers fries and wings we ever had. everything tastes heated up in the microwave down to the patty! won't ever waste time (takes forever to get your microwaved food) and money here again. the garlic fries had no garlic just a little bit of garlic seasoning it was laughable
google avatar

Nestor R.

Yelp
Incredible food and service. Clean establishment and friendly atmosphere. You like burgers and basketball, this is the place for you!
google avatar

June W.

Yelp
Incredible hidden gem! Probably second only to True Burger in Oakland in my opinion for best burger around. We both ordered the Buzzer Beater, classic cheeseburger. 1/2 pound big! Burger cooked just right at medium (like that they asked how we wanted it cooked). Burger served open for you to add the lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion. Very juicy burger, fresh toppings. The fries were excellent, nice and crunchy to the last fry. Decor and menu items were all sports-related, that was cool. Worthwhile stop to get a great burger.

Yelp
Came here around 7:30pm on a Saturday. There was no line, but there were quite a bit of people going in to pick up orders. I got the humdinger without cheese and a strawberry shake. There was a lot of juice coming from the burger. The burger was huge. The patty spilled out of the buns. However, it was a bit overcooked. I got a medium, and it was a bit overdone, so the inside was a bit dry. I did wish there were more mushrooms as well. The fries that came with the burger were delicious. Perfectly crispy, and they retained heat pretty well. The strawberry shake was so good, and they filled the cup to the brim. A solid place for a burger, and definitely a good place for normal fries.

Yelp
Yummy order the chicken sandwich falcon thingy magiggy . The chicken pesto was Yummy. Fries are good. Will be back

Yelp
This place is my go to spot in the ingleside/park Merced area as it never fails to meet expectations and always satisfies. The alley oop burger is a pretty straight forward half pound patty with cheese and all the normal condiments and toppings. It comes with fries as well, which is a perfect balance of a hearty meal that you might enjoy with a beer on the side. The staff is friendly and always helpful. The restaurant is clean and welcoming with TVs. I recommend this spot to people in the area looking for a decent burger that fills you up!

Yelp
We were craving a burger and this has been on my list for a while. We ordered the following: The Alley Oop Burger: Cheeseburger topped w/ fresh avocado and bacon. Half lb ground beef burgers, served with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, house sauce and french fries on a sesame bun = 10/10. This burger was cooked to perfection. The produce was fresh and I could taste that they used good quality bacon. The char on the outside of the meat patty was perfect. The Chili Davis Burger: Cheeseburger topped with chili. Half pound ground beef burgers. Served with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, house sauce, and French fries on a sesame seed bun = 8/10. This burger was also very good. No complaints, but compared to the Alley Oop, it's an 8/10. This was my son's burger and he didn't leave any crumbs. I had a nice cold 805 beer to wash my burger down. The interior is rather small. They have about 5 tables. I used the restroom and it was somewhat clean and it didn't smell too pleasant.... Plenty of parking.

Yelp
First time I ever went I just happened to looking for a burger joint on the way back from the academy of sciences I was on a trip and we stopped here on the way back and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had it came in clutch how I was just happening to find a burger place more exquisite than ordinary franchise restaurants. It really was worth the detour 100%

Yelp
It was my first time here . They have very friendly and welcoming staff . They are a bit pricey compare to other places in San Francisco where they offer better service. ( I don't mean customer service . Hall of frame is great in customer service . I mean providing stuff like side cheese, sauces and etc) I ordered a cheeseburger. I asked it to be medium cooked and it came just perfect . It was so juicy and delicious and they served it in a tray with fries . I will be back again to try something else .

Yelp
Hall of Flame Burgers gets the Jeff H. best burger near SF State Award. I had the Humdinger (mushroom Swiss) burger with garlic fries $16.90. It was a 1/2 pound patty with mushrooms and Swiss. I would have preferred more onions like my previous burgers here. The burger was so juicy, it was falling apart towards the end. I loved it. It left me satisfied. Bonus points came from the friendly staff and quick service. Great job crew at Hall of Flame Burgers.

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't reviewed Hall of Flame Burgers after years of eating here and several times I have ordered here for the team at work. We love ordering from here, excellent burgers and quality, all very reasonably priced. They always get our big orders correct every time, always so refreshing. The Ally-Oop Burger is my usual go-to here with fries or kick it up a notch with their sweet potato fries, ooooo really good! Their burgers are juicy, good flavor, fresh and soooo filling. You can request it cooked however you choose and they will prepare it just as requested. I've also had the Buzzer Beater Burger and the Humdinger Burger. Buzzer Beater is your basic cheeseburger with usual suspects lettuce, tomato and the Humdinger has grilled onions and shrooms, so good. I've also tried the Cooked Cardinal Sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich is really good and excellent choice if you're not wanting to get all beefy about it. The onions rings are super good and crispy! Grand finale and an absolute must order here...one of their homemade milkshakes made with Mitchell's ice cream, OH MY GOODNESS! Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry or Oreo cookie to choose from, so awesome; creamy and thick, cold and sweet! Must order! Located in a small, little strip center in Park Merced, limited parking. They are on the DoorDash app and accept phone-in orders for pick up. These cool peeps are flexible and make it the way you want and for a reasonable price. You'll be stuffed after eating here! You must try Hall of Flame if you love a great burger. They do not disappoint. They've been around for a while, too. They know how to do it. Cheers!

Yelp
5 stars hands down! There's nothing like walking in and seeing 3 grown men throwing down in a kitchen, let alone dope artwork on the walls. I normally order the Flightless Falcon sandwich and curly fries. But this time, I wanted to try their garlic fries and I was impressed. The chicken sandwich (Flightless Falcon) tastes better every time I take a bite. I crave for it whenever I'm in the area. The service deserves 5 stars. Friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
The humdinger used to be huge. Now like a lot of other restaurants, the portion size has gone down while the prices go up. They are also getting skimpy on the fries. Used to order a lot from them when I worked on that side of town. Never ate there, I always took it to go.
google avatar

Mikaela L.

Yelp
Super delicious and I love the selection of the menu. It had a good range of different meats and simple yet unique burgers. I liked how the burgers came with fries. I got the birdie burger which comes with turkey and the flavor was delicious. I also got the alley oop and that was delicious. I loved how it came with avocado and bacon. Would recommend! Parking: parking complex so should not be a worry
google avatar

Evan J.

Yelp
I really like this place. Really good half pound burgers that come with good fries. Lot's of different stuff on the menu. Staff is always competent and friendly. Style inside is nice and unique. Didn't see any pictures for the crispy chicken sandwich so I'll upload a few. The sandwich was pretty good but I prefer their burgers.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Very good food here, probably one of the best burgers I have had in San Francisco! I ordered Humdinger which comes with fries and it was very tasty. The meat was juicy. The only thing was it had so much cooked onions in it , which I didn't like but overall was great! The fries on the side was also pretty good. Definitely recommend and would return here

Lori L.

Yelp
Went in around 1pm and was pleased with my experience. Service was fast and the ambiance was casual and pleasant. I ordered the Alley Oop burger (lettuce wrapped) with bacon, avocado, tomato, red onion, cheese and added jalapeños with a side salad. The burger itself was super big and filling and definitely hit the spot for me and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed their house salad with balsamic vinaigrette! It rounded to $20 which is a little pricey for a burger but overall I have no complaints and I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch. I would definitely come here again and even prefer it over some of the more mainstream restaurants like Shake Shack.
google avatar

Anna N.

Yelp
Omg this burger hit the spot for me. I was craving a juicy burger which is rare for me. I decided to DoorDash from this burger joint and it was the best decision I made that day. I ordered the Humdinger which is the Swiss cheeseburger with mushrooms and sautéed onions. So good! The burgers comes with a side of fries so I was happy. I devoured the burger and it felt good. It wasn't oily and I didn't feel crappy after eating it. I have to try their milkshakes next time. They also have salads, hot dogs, and sandwiches.
google avatar

Mary K.

Yelp
Ordered The Alley Oop Burger to go! Don't let the picture fool you! There are toppings inside. Super juicy and flavorful! Will definitely come back to try the other burgers!
google avatar

Ven R.

Yelp
I'm not a big burger/sandwich expert by any means, but everything we ordered here was pretty good!!! We had the mushroom burger ordered medium rare and to my surprise... arrived as medium rare! Many other restaurants overcook their burger patties. Kiddo said it was a good burger-- couldn't get a pic before he scarfed it down! We also had both sandwiches offered (chicken BLT and the 76ers) and all the flavors work together perfectly. Nothing overpowered another, and the bread was good too! Not a tough Dutch crunch, but a soft bread. Their wings are super crispy (we ordered plain). Not over-seasoned at all, which was perfect for the plain-foods kiddo in the family. I will say the wings were nowhere near jumbo though lol
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Not Olympus is this a terribly shitty burger in a city that's known for better. It was over cooked. Made wrong and when I called to ask for a refund for my $22 order that would have been better at Burger King, they not only hung up on me but told me I had to bring in the trash burger to prove it. And now, I'm making my own food and sending this report to my bank as a fraud charge. I get it's a college kid spot, but even kids can have higher standards
google avatar

Larry N.

Yelp
I ordered Medium rare, and it came out to medium , this place. Has been might have changed ownership, It was the Alley-oop Burger is what II ordered, taste and meat quality is just not the same as before
google avatar

Joyce L.

Yelp
Ordered their fries and onion rings and let me tell you their onion rings are sooooooo good!!! Their fries are kinda bland.
google avatar

Nina P.

Yelp
Food was ok, near mall and university. Fries are previously frozen. Would go back to try the shakes.
google avatar

McKenna L.

Yelp
Pretty good small burger joint! They are made to order, and the fries were nice and crispy!
google avatar

Yelp
Hall of Flame has maintained the food quality during Covid. The service has also stayed high. The staff is welcoming and friendly. They appear to appreciate their customers. Another great meal at Hall of Flame at. Went for lunch (at about 1pm) and had a polish dog with onion rings substituted for fries and a chocolate shake. The order came up pretty quick. Polish dog and rings hit the stop. I ate them too fast to get a photo. The shake (made with real ice cream) made a nice chaser to the meal.

Levy G.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've had in SF. They've been pretty consistent. My kids love this place
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
OH WOW the hamburgers here are really good!! Really really REALLY good! That's all there is to say. I didn't come here for atmosphere or aesthetic, I stopped here to fill a major burger craving and Hall of Flame delivered. This being Covid time, we ordered at the doorway, and it took about 15 mins for our three burgers (one Ace and two Buzzer Beaters) to be ready to go. The burgers came with three servings of hot & crispy fries, packets of ketchup, mustard & salt, and plenty of napkins. Everyone inside was wearing a mask, and signage indicates people to please stand 6 ft from each other outside. There's no outdoor seating and the parking lot isn't the most appetizing, but no matter - we drove the short distance to the beach and parked seaside to eat in our car. No photos this visit because I was too excited to eat this delicious burger. But next time - and oh yes, there shall be a next time - I'll remember to snap some pics.

Yelp
So, you know how when you order from a place. The take out sometimes isn't the same as eating there ? Not here. Even the delivery is on point. I ordered chow for 2 hungry dudes and we absolutely destroyed it. 20 wings , crispy. Gone. Burger was delicious and secret sauce was delightfully spread. Pickles, check. Red onion. Check. Gone. Chicken sandwich, ohh and gone. Fries ? Oh yea. Gone. If you're hungry. This place has the cute.

R J.

Yelp
Burgers are just okay. Used to be really good, but ownership changed a while back and the quality went way down.
google avatar

Wesley S.

Yelp
Good place with relatively decent prices. We ordered take out so I can't speak much on the service but the food itself was tasty. Burger was a good hearty portion and the fries were pretty good as well. The only real complaint I have is the chili fries were a bit small in portion compared to its price for this type of diner. The meat from the burger was juicy and flavorful and the lettuce onions etc tasted fresh. I will come here again anytime I'm craving a simple American diner style burger.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Service was great, very friendly staff. But how do you treat Angus beef so poorly? The burgers we ordered were soggy and overcooked, and also cold?! Should have never strayed from our go to burger spot Calibur in West Portal!
