I've seen a lot of events coming through Hallwalls lately and that makes me excited for downtown Buffalo. With the recent renovation of the Lafayette Hotel, reopening of The Statler -- downtown Buffalo life is starting to tip the scales. As frustrating as it may be to spend fifteen minutes driving around looking for parking downtown, when I had to do that to make a show at Hallwalls last Friday, I was secretly happy because it demonstrated how far Buffalo has come in just the last few years.
This space is connected, yet separate from Babeville. It has its own parking lot, but when I came here for a show lately the lot was full so I drove up and down Delaware to try to find a parking spot. If you come early enough, you'll be fine..the lot is fine, but for more popular shows you may have to find some street parking.
My friend and I came to see a performance of what was dubbed as "Contemporary Classical Music," and it was a lot of fun! We were in an auditorium-esque room with around fifty seats and a non-elevated 'stage' up front. Drinks were served outside and it was very casual, just like the space. No bells and whistles, but it works and could be used for quite a few smaller events.
