My husband and I drive 2 hours every few months to come to Reading Terminal Market just to stock up on several lbs of Halteman's maple breakfast sausages. It's that good. We come prepared with a cooler and easily meet the $10 minimum to get a discount on parking. These sausages even smell good when they're still raw. You're excited to cook them because they smell so good. Then they fill your kitchen with a delicious maple aroma as they cook. And the taste is even better than the smell - the perfect balance of sweet and savory. We've shared these sausages with a number of friends and they all want to know where we got them.

Absolutely the best meat shop in the country! The delivery service is second to none! Everything arrives fresh never frozen within 1-2 days of shipping! Make sure you order by Tuesday the week you want your order and they will take it from there!

We decided to get some turkey bacon as everything looked so fresh. The have multiple varieties to choose some and some of the freshest looking steak I have seen. You can find a variety of different meats here as well including kangaroo, gator, elk, ostrich, yak, antelope etc Staff were working very fast but grab a number and be prepared to wait as they take everyone’s orders…lots of people buy from here

Amazingly fresh and delicious. I always order my bacon from here, it’s the best! Also ordered a boneless rib eye for my husband and he said it was the best he ever had. Will continue to order from them. The only criticism is they don’t send shipping email.

Halteman's is the greatest. Always reliable, high quality and fair priced. Among a ton of awesome choices, the Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage and Filet Mignon Burgers always punch about their weight class. On top of that, the steaks and roasts are always fantastic and the poultry is excellent quality.

Your Products and Service are First Class I am terribly disappointed you have discontinued your "Online" availability as it probably means I won't be able to get your Products and Goods going forward. Sadly!!!

We ordered the leg of lamb for Easter dinner and it was outstanding! We were kept informed about when it would arrive and when it did it was in beautiful condition. The lamb was very tender and tasted wonderful. We have had great success with Halteman’s steaks, filet’s, roast’s and now leg of lamb. Our go to butcher.

Great butcher. My dog loves the smoked bones. Since I've been ordering from Halteman, my Sunday meals are a hit!

I stopped at this butcher this am and bought this stuffed pork loin. The line was super short and I only had to wait a minute. The worker was nice and let me know how she recommended cooking. I am very excited to eat this for dinner tonight!! They have lots of good other options including some meats I've never tried before so I'm sure I'll be back!

Normally when I am planning to food shop here I know I am going to buy a lot, so I do my around about looking, eat lunch then buy the meats, poultry and such.. Well this time I brought hubby...and not my son and hubby wanted to get the meat and such first, then eat and then walk around.. I'm like you sure??!! cuz I know... but he was sure, he got this !! So 1 cow heart, 5 lbs of chicken wings, 2 large smoked cow bones, 1 turkey backbone, 2 turkey wings, 1 neck, 1lb of gizzards, 4lbs of bacon, 3 cornish hens and 6 steaks-- over 70lbs of food--- that he had to huff around that market!! cuz he said he could.. I was very impressed but anyway... 1. Service here is exceptional- I don't buy my meats anywhere else here at the terminal. 2. Best prices and quality for what you need 3. THAT BACON is amazing 4. They also carry other big game meat and I love that the venison is always fresh and makes my venison chili and stew perfect. I've been buying meats and specialty meats here for years, def worth the drive. Plus- 2hrs of free parking with proper validation- just remember what door you came in, cuz thats the door that takes you to the proper elevator in the parking structure.

Just received my order from Halteman Family Meats @ The Philadelphia Reading terminal, by way of Mercato.com. I am a long time patron of the market, this is the first time I've ever used their delivery service, I live in New Jersey and as we all know Reading terminal is in Philadelphia, long story short I'm impressed I am happy I am pleased the delivery was prompt, the driver was pleasant, packaging of my items were EXCELLENT. I Love this food, it's the best Big shout out to the staff there, when I'm there in person they're always friendly, helpful and pleasant.

A friend of mine swears by this place. In fact, she will literally drive from DC to Philly JUST to get bacon here. She wanted to go get some bacon, but was having car problems so asked if I wanted to go to Philly and would drive. Me, not one to ever say no to visiting my beloved home town, said sure I'll drive, just buy me some bacon. YO. She bought me some applewood smoked bacon and the buffalo chicken sausage. STOP. I was going to make a BLT with this bacon but no. It deserves to be enjoyed on it's own, with a side of eggs. Same with the sausage. I do go to Philly a few times a year and never really made this place a stop, but will be adding it to the "must do" list each time I return.

I order for delivery through Mercato about every two months. Their flat iron steaks are the best I've ever had and their boneless pork chops are excellent as well. I also enjoy the thinly sliced sliced chicken steak for chicken cheese steaks. Prime meat makes a big difference. Well worth the higher price.

The BEST!! Halteman has high quality, large selection, great service and fair prices. Philly is lucky to have this Amish meat stand in the city. I frequent the stand and am always happy with what I get from them. Top notch!

An okay place to get fresh and quality meat, but location and price keep it from being amazing. Don't get me wrong, if you want a local butcher that you can trust for freshness and quality, this may be the place for you. However, I don't live anywhere close and the price is 30% more than other places around my area with comparable items. Because of these factors, this place isn't for me.

Dunno about their meats but they have great local produce in season. Make sure to get their strawberries, peaches, and apples from Lancaster County, because they are all fresh from the farm.

Excellent quality fresh meats and very helpful, friendly service. Don't go at the weekends unless you don't mind a bit of a wait.

I'm a huge fan of Farmer's Markets, especially when there are plenty of Amish purveyors joining the ranks of the local businesses. L. Halteman Family is located in the Amish area of the infamous and awesome Reading Terminal Market, RTM to the locals. I do have two Amish Farmers Markets near my home, but anytime I am eying up beautiful and fresh meats, I can never pass them by. I learned a very long time ago to carry a cooler in my SUV and to throw in a few ice blocks if I knew I would be going out for the day, so I was all set when I ran into this gigantic display of meats and poultry! Smoked pork products caught my fancy that day, they had huge smoked loins of pork with the tenderloin still attached and ready to be sliced, so I asked the young lady to cut me six very thick smoked pork chops. I made them a few days ago with some fresh corn on the cob and a side of asiago angel hair pasta. They were so meaty and tender, I adore smoked pork, who am I kidding, I adore any pork! I also bought a pound of the thick slab bacon and another pound of the slab peppered bacon, which was wonderful on BLT sandwiches. The bacon was incredibly meaty, almost like eating ham, so delicious. She wrapped each item in butcher paper, then in a heavy duty plastic bag and asked me if I needed a bag of ice, for free! She's my new buddy!

I come here for their quality and service. My usual go to items are the ground turkey and the ground bulk sage turkey sausage(house-made,the best turkey sausage there is! You can form it into patties or add it to to other things).They also have good link turkey sausage. Their bacon is probably the best I've ever had.Their chicken parts and lean ground beef(no pink slime) are also always fresh and delicious. A bonus is in the spring and summer they have fresh Lancaster Co. produce; and in the fall carry Kaufman's Apple Cider(the best around; sorry Zieglers, you and your preservatives suck)

Great meat selections, and my god all kinds of bacon I never knew existed or could be made and actually taste good! The line here was long, folks know the deal here with these guys.....

Whelp I have not written anything in a disgracefully long time. This place should have more reviews. This place should have ALL the reviews. The selection here is, let's be frank, likely more than you'll ever even need. There's a decent variety of cuts, ground meat products (sausages and the like), one-pan meal solutions (oh the myriad of stuffed proteins!), and smoked meats AND bones. Want a smoked ham hock for your collard greens? They have that. Want smoked turkey neck and wings for a poultry broth? They have that. Want a smoked marrow bone because your dog said so? They have that. Want a variety pack of bacon just because? They have that. They people are always friendly. I've never had one of them even not smile at me. "I don't smile as often as I should", I think to myself, every time I walk away from this place.

I picked up my Thanksgiving 12 pound turkey from Haltemans. Located inside Reading Terminal! Just ask around if you can't find them because it's so big in there! FYI call ahead for turkey order if you have specific size in mind; they only keep smaller ones in the window. Very nice employees and noticeably good, clean handling of their meats. Our thanksgiving turkey tasted great! Many different cuts of meat available.

Halteman is like the Magic Kingdom of meat. Want to indulge in your hedonistic desire for a "baconalia"? Take the tram to Bacon Land, where you'll find numerous kinds of thick-cut slab bacon, including maple, and black pepper. Feel like some of the freshest poultry you can get in the city? Monorail to the Poultry Plains. You can find fresh, Lancaster-raised chickens here for around $2/lb. You can also get responsibly raised turkey, whole or in parts. I also noticed smoked turkey parts around the corner from the main counter, all of which seem worth checking out. Finally, feel like some local beef? Take the Ferry to Beef Town. We picked up a 3lb rump roast and made some delicious roast beef from it. The quality was very high, and the price was great at around $4/lb. They get very busy here during peak times, but do a great job of keeping the lines moving. Was very happy with the service. If I lived in a location more convenient to the RTM, I would come here all the time for meat. So save the money on the plane ticket to Orlando and buy a bunch of meat instead! (As you can see, I'm not in marketing.)

Bought some beef short ribs and different sausages on discount price. The sausages are very juicy and the beef ribs are great!

My go to spot for high quality meats at great prices. I've had their steaks, ground beef, burgers, chicken, breakfast sausages, bacon, and scrapple. The scrapple isn't the best, but I've been very happy with all of their other meats. Their NY Strip steak always comes out perfect on my grill. The staff is always friendly and helpful. You can't go wrong getting your meats here!

Die-hard fans of bacon (i.e. The Internet), listen up: If you're buying your bacon anywhere, just stop, get your butt down to RTM, and pick up some bacon from L Halteman. (They're next to Iovine's.) Boyfriend has made it a habit of going regularly for breakfast sausage, chicken sausage, ground turkey, and flank steak specifically to make beef jerky. Every meat option is far superior to anything you can find in the grocery store. Even better is that everything is reasonably priced.

I've been shopping at Halteman's for eight years or so, and I've never had any issues. The business is an Amish run (or at least it seems that way) stand, and they have a good selection of meats, poultry, sausages, etc. I've become especially addicted to the turkey meatloaf they have pre-portioned in a small aluminum pan. For $5, it's a great little dinner for two, and even better when wrapped in some of their hickory bacon and smothered in ketchup. They have a nice selection of bacon and other breakfast meats, including beef and turkey bacon. Their beef selection is a bit more limited than some of the other vendors, but they have the basics you'd expect...chuck, round, filet, strip, etc. Overall, my go-to place for poultry and often for meats as well; I also like their brown eggs.

Out of all the meat/poultry places at Reading, L. Halteman Family got my business because they advertised extra lean ground sirloin for $3.65/pound, which is exactly what I was looking for to make sloppy joes that day. They also had a great deal for 3 pounds of fresh ground turkey for only $7-some (the regular price is $2.89/pound). The meat is fresh, juicy, and made the best turkey meatballs/sloppy joes that I have ever made. I have now been converted and will no longer be buying my meat from the grocery store because L. Halteman Family offers better quality meat at a great price (as do practically all meat shops in Reading). They also offer a wide selection of cheese dips/spreads that I am hoping to try next time I hit up Reading! So next time you're planning on cooking up a carnivorous meal, make the trip to Reading/L. Halteman Family for fresh, reasonably priced meat that will make your meal that much yummier!

I needed some good fresh beef: 2 prime rib cuts and some thinner beef for Beef Negimaki. The folk at this place were very helpful and able to accommodate my precise needs and were great to deal with. In addition, the prices were reasonable and you definitely get high quality. Definitely recommend, any of your fresh meat needs will be met here.

I finally found a butcher to replace my lifelong kielbasa joint that closed last year ... I love the hickory smoked kielbasa!

The maple glazed bacon..... is to die for!!! I live in New Jersey and whenever I get a chance I will come down and buy over a pound! They're always super friendly and like I said the bacon is amazing!

all I can say is integrity...great meats ,great customer service... this place is the best ..we bought our thanksgiving turkey (free range fresh) here this year ..it was the best we've ever had..they have the cleanest tasting beef I've found in Philly...the prime cuts are marbled with tasty fat .the bacon is luscious...I could go on and on..its worth the trip to center city..

I love this place! Best sausage (try the pork sage) and bacon around. Also try the stuffed pork chops and turkey products. Wide variety of meats and the employees are very friendly!

High quality meat. The hand pressed hamburger patties are one of the most delicious burgers I've had. Great selection of bacon and always good customer service.

Artisanal smoked meats are to be found here even if they are not so billed. Halteman's does its own smoking of Lancaster raised livestock. Other Yelpers have well-covered Halteman's pork and beef offerings, so I shall celebrate the turkey options. For the last five years or so, all of our at-home holiday productions have included a featured player courtesy of Halteman's. We began with the boneless smoked turkey breast, which is very delicious. Two down-sides to the boneless versions: They tend to be on the small side (max is about 6 lbs) and can dry out during the warming process if not properly handled (after trial and error, we warm ours on a rack set in a pan with over 1/2 inch of chicken stock and cover the entire pan with foil). More recently, and based on a recommendation of one of the owners, we have moved to the on-the-bone smoked turkey breast, which is tastier and more moist than the boneless version. Whether sliced paper thin or thicker (like a roast), it is an amazingly rich and delicious foodstuff, and so much easier to handle than a raw turkey. Leftovers are terrific sautéed with a little cooking spray or used in any dish that calls for ham. And it makes the most divine baked beans.

BEST BACON EVER. came to get some fresh bacon for my BF. maple and peppered. both are great. they have a lot of loyal customers too. we had to wait a bit but it wasn't like there wasn't other things to look at. service was good and fast polite once they called your number.

I try to get all of my meet from this place. It is always fresh and tastes great. They have great deals on 3 pounds of ground beef or turkey. They also have the best bacon you will ever eat in your life!! It even smells better that store bought bacon while it is cooking!!! They also have a nice selection of cheese and butter :-) Butter makes me smile... :-)

Paid for meat on Sunday that I was told I would be able to pick up on Monday. Well it's Thursday and I've yet to receive the meat I've already paid for. I was told this morning, "the delivery is on the way" it's now 5pm and I'm still waiting. I will request a refund of my finances tomorrow upon opening of this store. This is why our people don't help one another when we open businesses in our communities

one day while getting a ticket from the butcher right next to this place I spotted it and walked over with ticket in hand and placed my order. greatest decision I've ever made in my life y'all. GET THE BACON.

Wooohaaaa! This is a fantastic place to buy very fresh and delicious Amish meat. They have something on the order of five kinds of bacon. (I had a real struggle choosing between the home smoked and maple glazed bacon. It all looked delish!). The pork chops were beautiful and look recently butchered. Everything was easy to see and the variety was impressive. The staff couldn't be nicer. They also sell cheese and cheese spread; all homemade! It is in the back of Reading Terminal near a produce stand. Worthy of the hunt to find it.

Got a honey glazed ham for Easter here and WOW! It was the best ham of my life. All prepared and sliced, all we had to do was throw it in the oven. So fresh and juicy it was worth every penny. Also got onion garlic bacon, which was heaven! The meat was cut thick and the bacon soaks in the onion and garlic so when you cook it the flavor is throughout. 5 stars, what a great find!

I shop for my meats and lunch meats every month, I've never gotten a bad batch of nothing from them. I love how they use gloves when touching your meat....I really love that. I recommend this place to anyone. Please visit

Best jerky period. I try to go every time I come to Philly but unfortunately they close at 4 PM so it is rare that I get there during business hours.

I recently ordered a chuck roast from L. Halteman on Amazon Fresh. WOW. I honestly don't feel like I've ever had fresh beef until now. We are now on our THIRD roast from them. You will not believe the flavor!

I purchase the smoked turkey every holiday season each year and it is outstanding. Never disappointing!! Kudoos to your family business for providing such great quality all the time.
