"A suburban Japanese restaurant is being sued by a diner who alleges that steam from cooking seafood caused her seafood-allergic husband to die, Cook County Record reports. The incident allegedly took place at Hamada of Japan in Tinley Park." - Daniel Gerzina

Truly one of my favorite places to go to, my only complaint is the overcrowding of tables unnecessarily. If I go early, close to open I do not want to be hanging off the corner of an overcrowded table. More than 8/9 adults per table is too much for the size of them. Most chefs are pretty good, I just wish the chefs were consistent. If I pay for extra garlic butter I shouldn’t get burned food, and I shouldn’t have to ask for something I paid for and asked my waiter for. Overall, love coming here.

Today 12 family members and I went to celebrate 2 family members birthday. Was looking forward to it all week. We orders placed and we told them 3 separates bills. While waiting to be seated someone go to get 3 drinks from the bar 15 dollars a piece with tax $50. Once seated started cooking. Orders mixed up which was no major. But one of the members had a food allergy to shrimp, it was indicated to the order taker. But the cook didn’t know nor asked, first issue. The cook tells us she should have told him. If already indicated I can do seafood when orders taken, but was. Then my daughter order another martini they charged 2 more on the than she paid for the first drink. Then steaks was ordered let the cook know they was done enough and took them off anyway. Grandson bit into and blood running out. Manager comes my daughter talks to her Genevieve beyond rude and most definitely not managerial material. I thought when she first started talking she was going to do the right thing. She have her staff yo take the plates with steaks in the kitchen to redo which the problem finish cooking what they didn’t finish in the first place. By this time half family got food and others not. So that ruined the birthday celebration. Then she come up with she will take 10% off. When they automatically put 18% gratuity on everyone bill. I question the manager how is this same drink being charged more than the 1st one and she said I did you a favor charging you the $15. Sitting listening to other families there getting the birthday song by the staff, none of that happened because of the poor services, uncooked food and ignorance. This will be the last time that my family and I come back to this restaurant. It was one more receipt of almost $300.00, I can’t find it too mad I guess. This has been an unbelievable experience but for you to be a manager and tell me you was doing me a favor by charging 15 a piece for those 3 and then 17 for that one.

Google
I gave the food a 2 star because it was edible, but I've definitely had better. To start, they seated us right in front of this fan, we had to turn the fan around. Then when we ordered, we tried to get a kids hibachi shrimp (to share between pur kids cause our 3 yr old just picks off everyones plate) but the lady argued with us about how tiny it was and that kids plates were not sharable, policy I guess. So we upgraded to the adult hibachi. Which the shrimp was so over cooked it bent the fork I used to cut the pieces in half. Charged us 5 dollars for an extra plate AND we paid 10 dollars more for WAY more food than we needed. Whatever though. Anyway, I ask what's in their mixed veggies, the lady wasn't really sure and instead of confirming she just made up stuff. Never mentioned bell peppers(which btw consumes the veggie plate). So our food starts to be cooked, my veggies were barely on the grill and he's slapping them on my plate, like what...my broccoli was hard, still raw. Some of the onion was still raw too. They totally disregarded the fact we had children with us, I had to ask for a kids cup and she only brought me one.(I had a 3 yr old with me, they really expected her to drink out of a regular cup). The food was bland. I smothered mine in yum yum sauce because of the lack of flavor. It took forever for any request. We asked for to go boxes and the check, took me 20 mins to pay, get boxes and a bag. The audacity to take a 18% gratuity and then ask for more on my receipt...smh. For 4 hibachi meals. It cost us 150 bucks. Ridiculous. Also, I suggest giving more fried rice if you are gonna force your customers to pay 3 bucks for it. We won't be back though. FYI the salad comes with ranch on it 🤯 worst hibachi place I've ever been to.

Google
The food was great and tasty, the chef was very friendly, professional and very clean. The issue was with the waitress, who seems to be always in a rush to take our order to eat or drink when we just sit down on the table, not giving us time to check the menu. The place is nice and well decorated. It's a little pricey but worth visiting.

Google
The food was delicious! I got the steak and shrimp hibachi combo. The chef was very friendly and ensured all of our food was cooked the way we wanted. Great portions as well.

Google
Great food, but I didn't like that our party of six was seated with 2 unpleasant people. The other 2 were quite nice and engaging, but the rude ones kinda dampened the celebratory spirit of my sisters birthday. The hostess was not very inviting or friendly, but it was quite busy on a Sunday which could explain the attitude. The price is ok, but the show could've been better. 8/10. Would dine again on a slower day and with a larger party.

Google
Our server, Mia, did her best with her table because it was so busy. But when she did come to the table, she took care of personal requests. The chef was fun and kept the food coming. The price is worth it because you get so much food. Best experience ever of Japanese culture in an Illinois restaurant.

Google
Fantastic hibachi restaurant in the Tinley park area. The food is to die for, specifically the Imperial Steak (filet) was cooked to perfection. Get double noodles with your meal you won’t regret it for leftovers. Service levels vary so you may have attentive service or less depending on the crowd.

Yelp
If you're a fan of hibachi and live in the south burbs, give the good people at Hamada a try. Came here with my family for dinner and we had a great time. Sure you'll smell like smoke when you leave, but that's part of the fun! This place is on par with Benihana, Ron of Japan, etc... Which means a great selection of food dishes, a sizable number of drink options, and a price point of ~$50 a person. I went with the steak and shrimp, but everything I ate here was excellent (i.e. veggies, fried rice, salad) and they give you so much that you will have leftovers for sure. Even though the place was packed, the service was quite good. I never saw the bottom of my water glass, and the staff always had a smile on their face. Huge fan of Hamada

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a kid. It is always our go to place for special occasions. The food is always tasty tasty tastyyyyy!!!! Amazing portions too. The inside is very cramped when in busy hours, very very hot. I really don't think there's any air flow in the restaurant. We say in our sweat the entire time. The service is amazing. I'm really hoping these employees get paid well. They bust their butts in this hot, busy environment. The tables seat 8, however it still is a little cramped. Other than these things, this is an amazing experience. I'll always continue to come back to this location.

Britt J.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. If you are dining in, this is a great place to go. Carry out is another story. My to go order had the wrong dressing on all four salads. I also paid for 3 extra garlic butters. They told me it's on my meals. How?when I ordered 4 meals but only ordered 3 extra garlic butters do you know which meals to put them on? They told me they did all four to complete the meal. How if you gave me the wrong dressing on four salads? At least carry out extra garlic butter is a scam at this restaurant. Please be careful what extras your order.

Brittany J.

Yelp
I've tried other hibachi places but Hamada of Japan is my fav since 2015, the food is well seasoned, buttered, and properly crispy. You can ask if you want well done or less cooked and if you want only veggies or only a specific veggie they do that too. It was busy when we went on a Sunday evening ( 2 people) we had to wait 15 mins for an open table which seems normal for hibachi. Service was a slower than usual but staff were still polite. I love the vibe of this place, they have a gorgeous koi pond inside & beautiful glass art. Definitely worth the try if you've tried other hibachi places and the food was bland or pale, your taste buds will be satisfied here.

Padma A.

Yelp
It's more like 3/12 starts ...Went for a business lunch ... the place is large and sort of busy with lots of families not ideal for a conversation. Too much greasy food is my take on it . Not for me . I told no steak for me but was given beef soup . Meh!!

Daniella F.

Yelp
We're doing suburban date night and came on a Saturday (early) night around 6 pm. There was a 45 minute wait and it took us about an hour to be seated, but no worries, there is a bar and we found a seat and had drinks! If you're not patient, be prepared to pull up and put your name on the list. I had the Mai Tai and he had a Sapporo. My drink had a good amount of alcohol. Zero complaints lol I mean it's date night right?! On to the main experience, I enjoyed the soup and appreciate when they have lots of those fried shoestring onions. Then there's the salad. I had the ginger dressing which was good, but a lot lol the salad to dressing ratio was off, but whatever lol I'm not here for that. My main course was the lobster and filet hibachi experience. I had noodles and extra shrimp (with the egg yolk sauce), and extra garlic butter on everything!! Also I recommend getting all the dishes instead of just broccoli....because grilled onions! So delicious and I had plenty of leftovers. I'll def be

Yelp
Very impressed .Been to many hibachi places ...and it was delicious, even the hibachi noodles were good ...Our chef was very entertaining to top it off ..I will go back.

Yelp
OMG! If you every get a chance to look inside the kitchen, I promise you won't eat here again. Just stand by the door and wait for someone to come out

Kiyaka C.

Yelp
Food was not that good and the yum yum sauce isn't one of the original sauces used at the hibachi restaurants. We ordered lobster and instead they gave us scallops. The service was fast but the food isn't all that great.

Liz

Yelp
My steak was burnt. There is a difference between well-done and burnt. My shrimp was burnt. I've been coming here for years, and never has my steak been burnt. Also, they never offered my ice cream after I pointed out my burnt steak.

Jayyde S.

Yelp
I love watching my food cooked in front of me and Hamada is in my top 3. I know what to expect every visit and I still have a blast with the chefs. It's nothing like dinner and a show lol. Hibachi always hits the spot! 8/10

Phyllis W.

Yelp
It is my favorite Restaurant. To the person who commented on the salad, I don't go to Hamada for Salad even though the Ginger Dressing is the Bomb. I love the noodles and always get an extra order. Love It The Ambience is great and the service is Great. I love when the chef gives little extras.

Jessica W.

Yelp
This was once a great place for hibachi, now it's one of the worst place.. With an automatic 18% gratuity, service should be top notch but we were Constantly looking for our server for water and drinks. We had hibachi along with spicy tuna, California roll and soft shell crab a favorite with our family. When the server brought them out we were disappointed. Presentation of the sushi was horrible no sesame seed, no tobiko and ginger. The gave me half of a soft shell crab and cut them into three small pieces. I paid $17.00 for deep fried vegetables. The bathroom is dirty and smell like a sewer. The only positive of this place was our cook, her was entertaining. This is my last visit. I don't recommend this place.

Mary Jo F.

Yelp
So much fun! Lots of choices on the menu. We all had hibachi dinners. The food was delicious. The soup had onion and mushrooms in a broth. There was also salad before dinner. The chefs are very entertaining with fancy knife work. Everyone at our large table took leftovers home. I especially liked the shrimp.

Stuart L.

Yelp
Food ok service pretty bad. I don't expect to be back any time soon. I got the impression that the servers would rather be elsewhere. I'm not that important but you could pay attention to the answers when you ask me a question

Atina M.

Yelp
If you do not come with a large party of about 8 people you WILL wait a long time to eat. I mean FOREVER!!! You don't get bread, salad while you wait. And they KNOW how how long it takes to fill the table. It's great that they take parties of 2, 3, 4 or more but it such a when you are stuck sitting with loud babies/children. It takes forever to get your salad or appetizer. If you aren't sitting when the waitress comes initially you will only be served water. She will not ask if you would like a soft drink or alcohol she will disappear again for at least 10 minutes. Be careful your choice of vegetables. There's broccoli only, and mixed vegetables. They are NOT American mixed veggies you are thinking of; I didn't want string beans, carrots and corn. That's not what THEY mean by "mixed vegetables". They mean zucchini, onions and mushrooms. OH BOY DID I WANT THOSE INSTEAD! But you cannot change your order. PLEASE PLEASE sell the garlic butter the Chef uses by the tub!!! I'd pay at least $50 for it alone. Also, I didn't like the calamari. It was too thick and tasteless.

Tunisha R.

Yelp
I was unimpressed with my inaugural visit to this hibachi restaurant. The wait for the chef to join our table exceeded 45 minutes, and the waitress was overburdened, unable to adequately attend to her tables.

L L.

Yelp
Still gonna give it the full 5 stars as I've been coming here for ages. However, I'm sad to see how much this place have changed. 1. $2 for extra butter 2. Bus boys cleaning the chairs with a broom after sweeping the floor 3. Dirty tables with parcels of food left from the previous guests 4. No longer greeted by friendly waitresses in kimonos 5. Grease smeared walls, ceiling, and a smog as soon as you enter the room 6. Extremely busy waitresses (my glass was always empty and we waited 15 mins after we paid the check for our ice cream) Considering the increased menu prices, removal of kids meals, and mandatory gratuity, I would expect management to invest a little bit of the margin back into maintenance, getting an air purifier or better ventilation, and cleaning

Bumble B.

Yelp
AVOID THIS TRASH! This was hands down the most disgusting meal I've ever seen prepared in front of me. The chef used more butter than food and drowned it in sauce on top of the pound of butter he mixed onto every item. ! He used twice the amount of butter as the size of my lobster and then drowned it in sauce. This place is trying to kill everyone here! Save your family's arteries and never, ever come here! The taste of my food was so bad I packed everything up while he was still cooking, paid my bill, and left! You should be ashamed of what you're doing to this food!

Jacqueline E.

Yelp
DO NOT order ANYTHING with CHICKEN. It made my family sick. Very sick. Diarrhea, vomit, all of the above. Do not get it! I am warning you now!

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Fun experience at hibachi. Tasted great, too. Had huge scallops and golden shrimp. Delicious

ShaDava O.

Yelp
With Great disappointment i'm writing this review ; my family have been patrons of Hamada of Japan for YEARS, this has also been our go to family restaurant for when we had visitors in town and last night turned something we loved so much into something we will NEVER eat again !!!!! We ordered take out and it was late but that's no excuse ; the food was dry there was no effort put into making our food and the soup was dark like a beef broth w/absolutely no taste and to top it off THERE WAS A ROACH !!!!!! in one of the soups my cousin had began to eat and she is from out of town and was leaving out before they opened back up and it was too late to call them because they were already close ... my family and i are very disappointed and extremely disgusted and the board of health will be notified IMMEDIATELY!!!!

Rosanna W.

Yelp
No complaints. The food was great as I remember. I haven't been in years. Me, my sister and nieces went out to eat. I order the teriyaki chicken as you know or may not know you get chicken fried rice, pasta with mixed vegetables, mushroom broth soup, Ginger or ranch salad, and at the end you get ice cream. I also ordered a drink too. You can get all of this food for the low, it is way better than benihana's, you get more for your money here. I will definitely be back.

Phoenix D.

Yelp
Hamada's has changed and NOT for the better. I was patronizing Hamada's at least 3-4 times a month... simply because the food is good if it's cooked by Allen, I REQUEST HIMor wait until he's assigned a table, GREAT CHEF. What's disturbing about Hamada's is the mandatory 18% gratuity, gratuity should be GIVEN for the service that's being provided to you and if I have to ask ANOTHER waitress , not my server for water then my server does Not deserve my 18% gratuity, there's NO explaining that to the manager. I'm considering speaking to an attorney because there should be LAWS that protect us consumers against pirating such as this! So for those reason I'm giving a 2 star.

Bobbie C.

Yelp
The food was excellent, and the service was good a very busy restaurant. The lobster tails was good and steak was tender haven't been there in years and noodles was seasoned good

Melissa D.

Yelp
Great food and service!, highly recommended over house of Hamada!! Always friendly service

Heather E.

Yelp
This review is only to help them see the need for major cleaning and updating the place. We live an hour away and drive for the food and yum yum sauce! BUT it is extremely dirty in the building. The menu was torn and greasy. The floor was greasy and slippery. The walls, blinds, ceiling, table, window sills, almost everything is so dirty. The front decor is falling apart. To the owners, please please work on cleaning the place. I literally don't want to go back bc it is THAT dirty in there. They do put on an automatic 15% gratuity. We tipped 5% more bc it should be 20%. I'm sure many people NOT tipping gave them no option. Don't be cheap! You know these kinds of restaurants are expensive. If you can't afford tip on top don't go.

Myra Kemp C.

Yelp
I found this restaurant from comments on TikTok that it had the best hibachi food around. Initially we were told the wait would be about 35 to 40 minutes, but we only waited about 10-15 minutes. We requested to be placed at a different table due to a family with multiple children under the age of 5. The hostess said we would have to wait between 30 to 45 minutes. The other hostess said we could be seated as soon as a table is ready, which was about 5 minutes. We waited a while before receiving water and soft drinks. The food was very tasty especially the noodles (steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops), vegetables, soup , salad and fried rice. The white rice for 2 orders were forgotten and taken home with left overs. The atmosphere was loud as there were a lot of small children out of their seats and infants crying. Perhaps this is normal for a Sunday evening at 6:30 pm. One observation that I hope will change in the near future is that none of the employees reflect what the customers (95%) looked like (race, background). The staff and especially our chef were nice and professional.

Jenna O.

Yelp
It's mediocre and sloppy. Everything tasted the same and was served the way you'd expect at a greasy diner. I can love a greasy diner as much as anyone, but that wasn't what I was expecting here. We had the summer maki and filet and scallops dinner. The scallops were fantastic as was the shrimp at the very end. They vegetables were ok, but tasted a little bland. The ginger dressing for the salad was too watery. The portions were huge and we could have easily made 2 additional meals out of what was left. Unfortunately, we liked it so little we left it behind.

Carole B.

Yelp
Hamada owner is money hungry!! They are now seating 12 full sized (and then some) people at a table! I literally had to pull up an extra chair and set my food on it and basically eat away from the table on a CHAIR! I asked for a small tray table or something and they didn't have anything. So the chair it was. Food was excellent and service fine. But I for sure should have gotten a discount or something for that!! Just wrong.

Yelp
I came here yesterday to celebrate my nephew's birthday....I've dined here one other time and that was to celebrate my sister-in-laws birthday. Both experiences weren't the greatest and I will speak about them both. The first time I dined here, I had never been to a hibachi style dinner so I was surprised to see that we were seated to a table with complete strangers. The service was pretty quick but the food was mediocre and the drinks were terrible.....very little alcohol, if any, was in my drink. After dinner, we left and I had it in my mind that I wouldn't be coming back here, unless I was invited by someone....which actually was the case and how I ended up dining here for a second time. So fast forward to yesterday evening and we get here to the restaurant....I was very pleased that there was no wait and my party was seated immediately as soon as we got inside. There were 6 of us total.....the waitress came over and took our food/drink order and left......service was very slow! And since we were just sitting around waiting for our waitress, I noticed how dirty the grill kind of looked to me. There were food crumbs from what looked like whoever sat here before us....and our menus were raggedy and greasy looking. We each got a plate with one fork...and we eventually got our soups, salads, water, but no drinks.....didn't get our drinks until the chef was about to come to the table to start cooking! And, I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and I swear there was no alcohol in mine So once again, my drink (that I waited a good 30 min for) was terrible. At least the food tasted better this time around....the portions were plenty and the seasoning was just right. After dinner, I had the rainbow sherbet which tasted very refreshing! If I can be completely honest, I think this restaurant needs a lot of work. It's a bit outdated and needs to be cleaner. Once the chef was done cooking for our table, he cleaned off the grill but there were still crumbs from our food that was cooked on it. I think there are other hibachi steak houses that could be worth checking out before coming here....I've been here twice and I think that might be enough for me.

Yelp
Came here with a group of 8. Just know there is no social distancing here. Completely packed. Luckily, we got a table in a corner area; not right in the middle. Long wait time (about 1 hour) to be seated. Popular place! We had all types of their food. From steaks, to scallops, lobster tail, chicken, and shrimp. All the food was very tasty! Sadly, they were out of icecream. Guess their freezer wasn't working. Service was fast and friendly (for it being a busy dinner time). Overall a good dining experience.

Jeffrey E.

Yelp
I was here for the first time for my friend's Birthday. Nice staff, atmosphere and food. I had the chicken and rice with noodles. A lot of food for the price. I ate and had plenty to take home. I will mostly recommend this place. Great Job!! Hamada of Japan

Joe B.

Yelp
Food was good, the wait was almost an hour, waited at the bar, bartender was great. Had alot of food left over, not bad at all.

E J.

Yelp
The food is good but they keep increasing the number of people at a table .. we have a person in a wheelchair and have to help them eat ... usually they give us a table to ourselves with such a large party but they crowded us with a another party just to get more people. We all felt crowded and they didn't care just to get more people there. We all need to make money but it's just greed at this point.

Chatara W.

Yelp
The service here is absolutely terrible. They rush you to order your food and drinks. When the chef finally came the food was good but as soon as the chef rolled his cart away and we were enjoying our food the waiter is rushing to bring checks and giving you to go boxes while your food is still fresh off the grill. A very unwelcoming experience. I will not be returning.

Carolyn J.

Yelp
First Name: CAROLYN City: Hazel Crest Zip: 60429 Country: USA Edit Description of Complaint: On January 4 2023 approximately 4:30 we were seated at our table. Approximately 5:00 our waitress Genavean took our drink order and food orders which I informed her that I was allergic to mushrooms and can my food be cooked separately as well. At 5:30 we just received our drinks and 5:45 we received our salad and soup (with mushrooms). I asked for a different soup because of my allergies she stated she took the mushrooms out. Another young lady asked for the manager because her appetizer was pre-cooked and greasy. When the manager Molly arrived she explained that the appetizer was greasy as well she mentioned how long we been waiting and other tables that were seated after us had their chef and receiving their food. We all stated because of the wait and still no chef can we be compensate by removing the gratuity from the bill as well as a refill on our drinks? Molly returned and stated her supervisor (no name given) stated if we didn't like the service we can leave and there will be no compensation given. Due to the time and one of the ladies in our group is a diabetic we stated against better judgment. When our chef Manny arrived I informed him again about my food allergy, and my friend advised him she doesn't eat meat and can he clean the grill before her lobster is cooked. Manny said this is not my first time cooking and I know what I'm doing. However Manny cooked my food where he placed the mushrooms without cleaning the area first as well as my lobster tail and my friend lobster tail in the area where the mushrooms and steaks were cooked. Part of the grill cooked faster than the other side and the food was burnt and dried out. The food cross contamination is serious when it come to allergies and someone health. We received our bill before food containers to go. We another young lady asked for the manager to come, she asked Molly can I get a container before my bill because that's the correct way. Molly stated no and called the police on her. This is the worst service ever at a restaurant. Food poisoning waiting to happen.

Yelp
Nice restaurant. Very busy. A bit of a wait and a very full restaurant. Food was very good and a little different than we are used to at a Japan restaurant waitress was very friendly. Restaurant was clean. Thank you!

Nadia P.

Yelp
not the waitress asking me to show proof of my daughters age because she is "tall" as she said LIKE WHAT?! who walks around with proof of a child's age I asked if she asks the white people for proof of Their child's age due to them being bigger and she got mad! I have never felt so insulted and all over a $5 difference smfh! a cook burnt something entire establishment is Smokey as fu€k manager is a joke and so are the workers! Ambiance wheRe everything is a joke

Gracie M.

Yelp
We had a party of 10 and the service was great! Drinks came out quickly and we didn't have to wait long for the food, which was delicious by the way.

Ivory B.

Yelp
I went here tonight with a large party to celebrate a family member's birthday. I ordered the hibachi lobster and when I tell you I was soooooo excited for this meal, I saved my appetite for this!!! When the waiter took my order I specifically expressed that I wanted the mixed vegetables, no broccoli- this is due to a food allergy. Unfortunately, I have Crohn's disease and any tiny bit of ruffage like broccoli will create so much digestive pain. I have to be careful when I eat out and I thought Hamada would be able to accommodate my diet. Although vegetables aren't ideal foods for Crohn's, we still have to get some veggie nutrients. The meal came with either Broccoli or Mixed Vegetables. I chose the latter. Come to find out, the mixed vegetables actually have broccoli in it along with the usual suspects - Zucchini , Onion, and Mushroom. I asked the chef to put only the other three on my plate, not the broccoli. There was a whole language barrier, he had to get the waiter to understand my request - also a problem of this establishment. If veggies are included, they should not force you to eat anything that's unhealthy to you. The manager came by to tell me that there is nothing they can do, which was clearly and obviously untrue - they were just unwilling. Very poor customer service! I cancelled my order which she happily and quickly did. I felt like I was just another number to their business. They didn't care to lose my lil funky $50. I won't go back again! Keep your food, I'll keep my money! Food - didn't get to try Service - extremely poor Ambiance - loud and tight seating

Jessica F.

Yelp
This is my go to place for celebration! The food is always amazing! Tried a few of their sushi rolls this last time and they were very good. The cooks are always funny and entertaining. Only negatives were the condition of some of the tables/cooking areas are in need of some maintenance, and the staff that get your sides/drinks could've been friendlier/more attentive, but otherwise, highly recommend! (P.s. plan to spend some money while you're here- but it's worth every penny!).

Christi B.

Yelp
worst service ever, they were so rude to me for no reason. Workers have bad attitudes about their jobs.

Yelp
My husband and I had a date night to celebrate my birthday and belated Father's Day. We were immediately turned off as we walked into the building, the entrance is full of old black gum, grease slick concrete, the glass on the side of the door were Smokey and needed to be cleaned. The menu was torn and needs to be updated, and the statue at the front door was missing a hand. However, the food was fresh and taste good. The staff were friendly. This review is intended to help improve Hamada and return it to the restaurant that I patronize year ago. If we as patrons spend our hard earn money to dine out, we must demand total respect in every way. I felt a lack of respect for the patrons were present. We must demand and expect quality and respect!

Yelp
I placed a carry out order today 3/12/23 Chk#5098. My order was hibachi scallops. My food was drenched in soy sauce or whatever sauce is used, I have been coming here for years occasionally I'll do a carry out. This was the worse. A waste of my money. I won't be back. When ordering carry out the food should be prepared as if I was sitting there watching. My food was inedible.

Yelp
Disclaimer: I haven't dined in since Feb. 2020 right before everything shut down. I have yet to eat here post pandemic. There are a lot of hibachi restaurants throughout the suburbs of Chicago and Hamada was the very first one I went to when I moved here. My husband and I usually go here for a special event like a birthday. The wait is typically long if you don't do a reservation. Last time we ate here for my birthday, we booked a reservation but we still waited about 30 minutes after our reservation time. This is problem what's keeping them from being higher rated. The service is pretty typical of most hibachi restaurants. The waiters and waitresses are attentive to your needs like refill and checking in on you if you need anything else. The chefs are also very entertaining and can accommodate to what you want when cooking. They give you a ton of food if you order hibachi dinner. Lots of noodles, veggies and rice on top of your main dish. With all the food, it does come out to be a pretty pricey dinner. But there is always enough food for leftovers the next day and they reheat well. During and a bit after the pandemic, my husband and I haven't dined in yet, but we have ordered takeout a couple of times. Portions are definitely still large but you miss out on the entertainment aspect, especially if you do hibachi. Regardless, the food is still good when doing takeout. The only thing I didn't like as much was the chicken fried rice. It was a little mushy. Not sure if it was because it was takeout or if it was because I had it the next day but I don't remember it being mushy before. I mostly recommend this place only for special occasions rather than a regular Saturday night out. It can turn into a pricey meal and the wait can also be really long. Yelp
I had never been to one of these Benihana style places before, so I came with two of my friends for Friday night dinner. the place was very busy but we got a table with other couples who did not make a reservation. This place is pretty pricey, but you definitely get enough food for at least two meals if you're a big eater. One thing I noticed is they use a ton of soy sauce, so if you're sodium sensitive, this isn't the place for you. Also, if you're very hungry, you're going to wait a bit between each course and depending on what you order as not everyone gets served together. If you're okay with all of this, you're going to have a good time! My friends ordered the chicken and steak specials and I got the Land and Sea: steak and shrimp special. The first thing our waitress brought out was a soup made with French's fried onions like the kind that goes on green bean casserole lol. It was good and savory! Next, you get a bag of frozen lettuce salad with either ranch or ginger dressing. Hamada, you can do better for your prices than frozen lettuce. The ginger dressing is made in house though, it's quite good but a tad bitter. FYI. Next, you get an "appetizer" portion of noodles but in reality it is huge like a full plate of soy sauce lo Mein. Pretty good. At this point our chef does his standard tricks and everyone gets vegetables. You can request for broccoli only, or any adjustments and they seem happy to do it for you. After the vegetables and lo mein, they start making either plain rice or chicken and egg fried rice. The rice is pretty good. Then we get our "appetizer" portion of shrimp, which is 2 a person. Since I got shrimp as part of my entree they just added 6 more to my order. After this they then finally make your proteins- chicken takes the longest to cook so whoever ordered that has to wait around. My steak was good but lacked seasoning of any kind, tasted good with the heavily sauced noodles though. Finally, you get soft serve chocolate vanilla or rainbow sherbet ice cream. Our server forgot our hot sauce we asked for. But our hibachi chef was awesome and was workin' hard - literally sweating bullets. So hence the 4 stars for his effort. 3 stars for food.

Yelp
We went there tonight for my granddaughters birthday. There were 3 of us. We were seated in the back room with little ventilation. My husband looked at the thermostat and it was 90 degrees. We had sweat dripping down our backs, my hair was soaked, even my hands were sweating. Even the strangers at our table were complaining of the heat. We had a miserable time. The food was excellent but I will never sit in that room again. I spoke with the manager and all she said was so sorry! I'm reporting them to the village of Tinley Park. I would think that a hibachi grill should have better ventilation!
