We came to Hamilton Hall for dinner on a Saturday night.
The menu is very ... milquetoast. Steak dish with potatoes and roast vegetables? Check. Random chicken dish? Check. Any old roast salmon dish? Check. The every-place-has-a-have-a-vegetarian-pasta-dish dish? Check. Some sandwiches, including a burger and a vegetarian option? Check.
I ordered the steak. It was cooked properly, but the overall menu composition and flavors were unimaginative (save for the anchovy butter, which was admittedly delicious). The same for the black bean burger and the nachos. The dishes were, unfortunately, commodity dishes that basically any mid-priced New American restaurant would have; in other words, there was nothing to set the food apart from hundreds of other restaurants.
Then there was the dessert. The options? Bland: chocolate cake and apple pie. I can't say anything about the apple pie, but the chocolate cake was ... chocolate cake. Absolutely nothing special at all. More galling, it took at least fifteen minutes for a piece of chocolate cake, clearly stored in the fridge, to make its way out to our table. Even our waiter admitted that it shouldn't take that long for a piece of cake to end up at our table. We ultimately had to take it home because we had two tired kids. The cake was, at best, any old piece of chocolate cake and certainly not worth the price of admission or time it took to arrive.
The beer list is okay. There are a few good beers, but most, again, are ho hum.
