Absolutely stellar experience! Was craving a burger and decided to check this out. Employees were all super friendly, even met "Pepper" who I believe is the Owner. Ordered an Original Triple Burger 🍔 was flavorful, perfectly cooked, crispy on the edges, a smash burger lovers paradise! The batter on the onion rings was spectacular and they were not greasy. If you order fries or onion rings, try the beer cheese! It's worth it. The atmosphere was fun and they even have a separate bar area. The art outside was awesome! See photos. We will be back soon!

The Ultimate Smash Burger Experience! If you’re on the hunt for the best smash burger around, look no further than Hammer Burger. This place has perfected the art of the crispy, juicy, flavor-packed burger, and it’s no surprise that everyone who tries it falls in love. The patties are expertly smashed to create that ideal caramelized crust while staying tender inside. Paired with melty cheese, fresh toppings, and a perfectly toasted bun, every bite is a masterpiece. The balance of flavors is spot on—savory, cheesy, and just the right amount of crunch. Beyond the burgers, the vibe at Hammer Burger is just as good. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or hanging out with friends, the welcoming atmosphere and great service make the experience even better. Simply put, Hammer Burger is a must-visit for any burger lover. It’s the kind of place you’ll keep coming back to because once you’ve had a taste, nothing else compares.

Went to Hammer Burger for the first time last night for dinner and had a great meal. Ended up the getting the classic burger with onion rings. The burger was really good. The super thin crispy patties were seasoned perfectly, the potato bun was nice and soft. Just a great burger. The onion rings look they are made with a beer batter which normally is not my favorite, however they were great. Nice and crispy outer coating and sweet onions made the perfect. The staff was great. Highly recommended...

Google
I’m a believer! It’s not just the burger for these folks. It’s the choices of sauces to compliment. I had the spicy burger and every bite was delightful. Now let’s talk about the well seasoned onion rings!! Okay guys I see you! I think I’ve had the best I’ve ever eaten. I dipped them in ranch mixed with hammer sauce. I can’t explain hammer sauce to give it justice. Just yummy!!! You must check this eatery out!!! It’s an experience.

Google
In my opinion, the BEST burger in Orange County. Delicious smash burgers that are priced right and packed with flavor. They have a vast selection of sauces that are complimentary. Truly a hidden gem.

Google
Great smash burgers! Very thin patty, excellent house made pickles and sauce. You have to get their fries and beer cheese! The beer cheese was also very very good!

Google
My first time trying a smash burger and I tried the spicy one! It was so dang delicious. I was happy to see a plethora of sauces available and I grabbed some ranch for my fried pickles and got the chipotle sauce which was such a great addition to the already spicy burgers. My gal got the classic and it was definitely easier to hold than my spicy burger but I loved it all the same. Oh man, she had fries as well and I thought they were the perfect amount of salt and crispness. Plenty of tables to sit and they had a nice selection of alcoholic drinks with also a separate bar seating area. Can’t wait to come back.

Google
Was recommended Hammer Burger by my brother, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite smash burgers in Orange County. I like to come here to watch sports, drink beer, and have a good burger. I’m sure anything on the menu would be great, but I usually opt for the spicy smash burger or the classic hammer burger. Depending on how hungry I am, I might get a side of sweet potato fries for myself or share one of their loaded fries. Classic hammer: Two patties | Hammer Sauce | house made pickles | grilled onion | American cheese | potato roll Spicy smash: Two patties | Grilled jalapeño | grilled onion | hot sauce | chipotle mayo | pepper jack cheese | potato roll Don’t forget to try their signature sauces on your burgers and fries. If you’re looking for a good burger, I’d highly recommend Hammer Burger.

Yelp
My current favorite smash burger. Everything about this was delicious. Service was quick and easy. They had a hefty sauce station, but my ABSOLUTE favorite is the garlic sauce. SO GOOD. I wanted to bring some home LOL. They have a few seating and a cute little bar area. Parking was super easy for us as well, we got a spot right outside. Otherwise, there's paid parking in the lot behind.

Yelp
I think I came into Hammer Burger with too high of expectations. Service was friendly. The burgers took a while to come out so I wouldn't come if I was in a rush. There's plenty of seating here so no wait which was nice. I ordered the Beef Dip Smashburger which was a seasonal item. According to the cashier, it was one of the most popular dishes. The horseradish was so overpowering that I was unable to enjoy my burger. I could only take a few bites before setting it aside and eating the fried pickles instead. I felt like the horseradish had gone up my nose/throat and burned everything in its path. I went with my coworkers so I tried to smile through the pain but I could not finish the burger. On the bright side, the fried pickles were fantastic. I would order those again. I loved the variety of sauces they had to pair with the burger and sides. My favorite was the Jalapeño Ranch. I want to give Hammer Burger another try so next time I will get the classic smash burger.

Yelp
I am definitely disappointed, i came in with high expectations due to the reviews that I've been reading and heard. It seems crowded but not to the point where we should be waiting 30 minutes after placing an order for a couple of smash burgers. The wait is definitely on the longer side. Cookies and cream milkshake: 4/10, it's pretty expensive to start off with at $8. The milkshake was also too icy and not at creamy as I was expecting out of a milkshake. There wasn't enough sweetness to it either, the only thing that helped it were the actual Oreo crumbs on top. Burgers 5/10: The smash patties were good, they had the crunch that I was looking for. But the cheese man, the cheese really just over powered everything. It felt like my mouth was glued shut. I even got the quad in hopes to drown out the cheese. Fries 7/10: best thing we've had, perfect crunch and crisp Onion rings 6/10: good crisp as the fries but a little on the salt side.

Yelp
Hammer Burger specializes in smash burgers and is located near the 4th Street Market in downtown Santa Ana. The burgers here are 2.5 oz of meat per patty and come with 2 patties. They do have a triple option for $2.50 more or the quad for $5 more. Classic hammer burger (quad - $15) - This came with hammer sauce, house made pickles, grilled onions, American cheese, and 4 smashed beef patties sandwiched between a small potato roll. Each of the 2.5 oz patties was thin, crispy and flavorful. The hammer sauce had a strong mustard flavor to it, and I would have preferred a chipotle mayo flavor profile. I did get some garlic from their condiments section and dipped my burger into it and really enjoyed that. Overall this is a solid spot for smash burgers and one of the best that I have tried. Pricing is on the high side here when you consider what other places like In-N-Out charge for their similar sized burgers. I parked at the parking garage near 4th Street Market and walked over during the weekday as parking was complimentary.

Yelp
Hammer Burger is one of my favorite smash burger spots, and the UNLIMITED house-made sauces are a game-changer! They have an amazing selection, but the garlic sauce is the best--so, so good on both the burger and fries. I always get the Original Burger and the Hammer Fries with the grilled onions well-done for extra caramelized goodness. The staff is super chill and friendly. Pro tip: Park in the 4th Street structure (it's usually free) and check out their 20% off happy hour. Highly recommend stopping by for a delicious smash burger and perfectly crispy fries!

Yvette V.

Yelp
Food - fries were yummy Onions rings delicious not greasy Spicy chicken sando good but i needed more spice. Husband really enjoyed the spicy smash Service - very attentive and friendly staff Ambiance - causal and clean The whole family enjoyed and the prices point is very reasonable.

RJ M.

Yelp
Best smash burgers in Orange County hands down. The prices aren't too bad, and they are serving high quality items here. I have yet to find a burger joint that could top Hammer Burger! Love their fried pickles as well, super crunchy, and perfectly seasoned. It's a small location with limited seating when we went, but we were so glad we waited. I highly recommend Hammer Burger to anyone!!

Donna M.

Yelp
We enjoyed our lunch. The burgers gave all the crispy edges you'll love. They also have some tasty house-made sauces that add to the burgers. Don't forget to order their crispy onion rings. Yum

Elle C.

Yelp
For this 1st visit, we went with the Classic Hammer Burger ($10); the burger was full of flavor with a nice-&-soft (which rates high in my book!) potato roll. We enjoyed their Shoestring Fries (large $6)! Despite the reviews, we were disappointed with their Onion Rings (large $7); while the onions were sweet and tender, the exterior lacked the satisfying crunch that I desire. Loved the variety of in-house made sauces! They do offer beers and wine; the "wines by the glass" were described as box wines, which I ordered only because their selection appreciatively consisted only of Old World wines -- unlike many menus offering only California wines; as the staff member stated, not bad -- and attractively served in a clear, spot-free stemless wine (actual) glass. Seating is limited; fortunately, we secured a table during a weekend lunch. Very impressive was the staff: positive, friendly, patient, helpful, and professional; they work well as a team! Fun find!

Yelp
Get the Classic Hammer Burger and Sweet Potato Fries. I recently stopped by with some relatives. We got 3 different burgers and 3 different sides. I got to try everything and I asked my relatives for their feedback on the food too. The Classic Hammer Burger is a perfect smash burger. Every single component of the burger worked really well together. Out of the 3 burgers, all of us agreed that this was the best burger by far. We also got the CaliBama Q and Chili Cheeseburger. If you live nearby and come here often, I can understand getting flavor fatigue and wanting to try something else. But if you're just visiting, stick with the classic. One of us commented that they wished there was more meat. This place does smash the patties down to thin sheets. If you prefer a meatier bite, get a 3rd or 4th patty. The Sweet Potato Fries were easily the best side we got. The Onion Rings were also pretty good. They were all perfectly fried and crispy. The Shoestring Fries were meh at best, so skip those. For further context, 2 of us originally just wanted to get Shoestring Fries, but 1 of us convinced us to get Sweet Potato Fries and Onion Rings for variety sake. One pet peeve is that when they bring you your sides, a few fries will spill onto the table, which is not very sanitary. They should just serve the sides on a metal tray like they do for the burger. Minor detail, so I'm not docking a star just for that. Overall, this is a solid smash burger joint and I recommend it if you live nearby or perhaps you're in the area visiting. I wouldn't call this a destination joint if you live at least an hour away.

Yelp
SO FREAKIN' GOOD! We live in South OC & this is so beyond worth the drive. Service is excellent- everyone is so nice and helpful. It's a small place and super clean. Food is phenomenal! The fried pickles are SO bomb dot com! 10/10 recommend

Emily U.

Yelp
I absolutely love coming to Hammer Burger! They specialize in smash burgers, and while it's a bit pricier than places like In-N-Out, the quality is on a whole different level. The patties are super thin, crispy, and perfectly caramelized, which gives them an incredible flavor. Their Spicy Burger, with jalapeños, is a must-try--it's packed with heat and so good! The fries are thin, string-shoe style, and super tasty. You can't go wrong adding chili cheese to either the fries or the burger for an extra indulgent touch. Though it's a small spot, it's one of my favorite places for a burger. The staff is really sweet, and the service is great. I'd recommend visiting during off-hours because it can get busy, but it's well worth it. If you're a burger fan, this place is a must-visit!

Yelp
Disclaimer, This place is doing a toy drive for Christmas. So come in soon! This place has street parking but I came at an odd hour so I got a place right up close When I walked in I was greeted by, Rodrigo and he helped me with my order. (You order and pay at the counter, they give you a buzzer that you put at the end of your table and then staff brings your food out) Side note, I came here at the perfect time. It ended up being happy hour. 2-5 and 20 percent off food I ordered a full order of fried pickles, got two smash burgers and then I ordered a chili cheese fry (HUGE, these chili cheese fries can easily feed 4 people. Had no idea how big they were) I asked Rodrigo if they had ranch and he said it was over by the drink station. I went over there and they had EVERYTHING!! All the sauces are made there fresh and I love that it's free. They didn't just have one ranch. They had regular and a jalapeño ranch (along with chipotle sauce, garlic sauce, hammer sauce and a white bbq sauce Alabama style) being the sauce queen that I am, this made my day. The jalapeño ranch was so good, along with the chipotle sauce and regular ranch. Pepper, came out and checked on us a couple times and brought out our food. The staff was honestly so friendly So 5 stars for service, especially Rodrigo and Pepper. The food was great. I love a place that has fried pickles on the menu, so another 5 stars. And the chili on the chili cheese fries was awesome The place was clean, nothing crazy. Your regular hip burger spot, 5 stars The thing that I love is, they have a box set up for toy donations. The toy drive is for Olive crest. So please come in soon!! I already plan on coming back soon to drop off some toys. If you bring in a unwrapped toy you get 10 percent off The fact that they are helping out with a toy drive for the holidays makes it 10 stars if that was an option. It doesn't take much for businesses to do this, so it's disappointing not many places do it. So thank you to the lovely owners and staff at Hammer burger

Yelp
OVERALL : I have been a fan of Hammer ever since they were just a small food truck, and it is so nice to see their business thriving! They have a simple menu of smash burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, and some sides like fries, onion rings, and salads. Their smash patties are delicious with the crispy meat skirt, and the potato rolls they use are so soft and buttery! The store is very casual with sports playing on the TVs and a good selection of beers. The service is so friendly, but there can be a bit of a wait for food if it's busy. Nothing excessive though, and well worth the wait. They had tables for indoor seating as well as a bathroom. So glad they are nearby for my burger cravings! PARKING : This shop is located in Downtown Santa Ana, so it's mostly street parking unless you park in a lot and walk over. Based on the business' reccs, "Free two-hour parking is available at the structure on Fifth and Spurgeon, adjacent to Fourth Street Market.". We ended up finding some street parking just a few minutes away from the store though and walked! FOOD/DRINKS : Thanksgiving Burger - Hammer does a monthly special burger to keep things fresh and fun. This month, they have a Thanksgiving Burger! It's 2 smashed turkey patties w/ grilled onion, muenster cheese, stuffing, and topped with cranberry gravy aioli and crispy onion strings. We didn't even know how to tackle this when it came out LOL bc it was THICCC. Ended up eating part of it with a fork first until it became more manageable. Def tasted like Thanksgiving in a burger! Plain Cheeseburger - Single Smashed Beef Patty, American Cheese, Potato Roll -- simple but delicious. This is actually from the kids menu but I found it to be filling. I added some ketchup, hammer sauce, mayo, and garlic spread. The potato roll bun was so pillowy and buttery + the smashed patty w/ the meat skirt had so much flavor esp when paired with the cheese! Shoestring Fries - absolute perfection! Fried in a way where the outside is crisp and inside is soft still. nicely salted and paired well with all their housemade sauces that are available for free self-serve

Yelp
This place has been on our go to list for a year and finally got to try it. Bought 2 classic cheeseburgers and chili fries for $33 total. Free sauces to choose from. We got garlic, ranch, and their BBQ sauce. Decent amount of seating indoors, plenty of bathroom stalls. Parking was hit or miss on a Saturday night but we found street parking. Quality of burger was 10/10. Their classic burger has 2 skinny flat smashed burgers. The skinniest burgers ever but so good and filling but not too filling! Their servers came by to take our trays and trash and asked how we were doing. I will be coming back!

Marissa M.

Yelp
I've tried many smash burger joints and can honestly say this is one of my favorites! I got the spicy smash burger and they weren't kidding about the spice. The generous stack of jalapeños on the burger added quite the kick, and I loved all the other toppings. It was pretty messy to eat and quite large but well worth it. I can't say I love the outside parts of the burger that get crispy and crunchy but I know that's their style. The fries were simple and yummy. Thin shoestring and lightly seasoned which paired incredibly well with the variety of sauces. We also tried the fried pickles, they were good but not my favorite. They were heavily battered and thin, I generally think the spears are better. The workers were nice and the food didn't take long! Also love they have taps.

Kevin P.

Yelp
Parking: one way street, find street parking and look out for people walking. Was told to visit here by a local from Santa Ana and YES, this is the best Smashburger in OC. LA county got for the win, San Diego county got tanners prime, OC got Hammer. Top three spots in California imo for smash burgers. Service was quick and the staffs are great.

Tom L.

Yelp
Hammer Burger in downtown Santa Ana is a great spot for smash burgers. Parking is easy with nearby structures and street meters. The simple menu focuses on quality, and I went with the classic double patty, grilled onions, and hammer sauce. They also offer a free sauce bar with various options. The staff is friendly and quick. The inside is clean and modern. It's cool seeing all the art and murals around. Overall, it's one of my favorite burger joints in OC!

Les K.

Yelp
The burger itself is definitely the star of the show. The edges are crispy and the meat is juicy. The bun holds everything together perfectly and overall is really delicious. The French fries are nothing special but they compliment the burger decently. There is a free sauce bar on the side with 6 different options, (Ranch, Garlic, chipotle, Hammer-mustard, white bbq, and another type of Ranch). The sauces also have a lot of flavor but I found none of them were a good consistent dipper for the fries, maybe if you order the fried pickles it would be better. The service was fast and the cashier was quick to provide suggestions. At the time I went there were several families around so there was a good bit of child noise but this definitely feels like a great late night spot. For my order of a Spicy burger, fries, and a drink I spent just under $20. Don't get me wrong it's a good burger but I wish it was a tad bit more affordable. I'll come back for sure!

Stephanie T.

Yelp
I was craving for a smash and first thought was to come back here. My go to is the classic smash and my boyfriend's is the spicy mash. Second time here and it's just as good as the first. Great patty, great flavors. Shoe string fries are crispy and hot. Tonight, the fried pickles tasted a bit burnt so we weren't able to finish them all. Friendly service and not too busy for happy hour times. Overall, a delicious time in downtown Santa Ana.

Randi B.

Yelp
My husband absolutely loved this food truck and was always on the lookout for where it would be. I on the other hand, did not like the "meat lace" and never cared to eat there again. When they opened their brick & mortar store at least a year ago, he said I should try them again. We finally did this past weekend. There is limited street parking, and the lot next door to them was closed, so we parked off 4th & Spurgeon. It's a quick walk over, and if you can eat in less than an hour, parking will be free. Since I know I don't like the meat lace, I didn't even bother with it. Instead I went with a fried chicken sandwich. We also split their chili cheese fries and added raw onions. I will be back! Their chicken sandwich was tasty, although I found the sandwich to be too dry as is. Lucky for me they have an array of delicious sauces they make daily. Loved their ranch, garlic sauce, and hammer sauce. Once my sandwich was all sauced up, it was perfect, and messy! The chili cheese fries were SO GOOD. I am super picky with chili, so I took a risk ordering these. Honestly some of the best chili cheese fries we have ever had, loved the beer cheese! So happy the cashier suggested adding raw onions, they were the perfect topping for these yummy fries. Portion is massive, we took over half of them home. I'm looking forward to returning, glad my husband made me give them another shot. They have a grilled chicken sandwich I want to try, and some great sounding hot dogs, i'm looking at you, chili cheese dog!

Yelp
Great smash burger spot in downtown Santa Ana. Has a fun graffiti design on the outside. Looks small but it's actually larger than you think inside. Came on a weekday evening and they were quite popular. Waited maybe 30+ mins for 2 burgers and onion rings. Unfortunately the milkshakes I wanted was out and they only had chocolate for some reason. Despite that it really hit the craving I was having. You can choose how many patties you want and they really do smash them thin and crispy. There were some salty patches but was very tasty. Maybe I noticed it more since I asked for no cheese. Probably some of the best smash burger I've had in the area!

Jason S.

Yelp
It was my first time trying a smash burger, now I understand the craze. We ordered the spicy smash, flatty melt, and hammer fries. I loved the crispy edges that are formed from smashing the burgers! I was surprised by the portion of the hammer fries. As a side, I feel like it could feed 3 to 4 people. They have a sauce bar with six different sauces that you can grab all for free. My two favorites were their garlic and ranch. The service is friendly. The restaurant isn't very big. On a weekday night at 8 PM the place was mostly full.

Clayton M.

Yelp
Fried pickles were good! Fries were good, kinda like McDonalds. I ordered a burger for my friend, and he said it was a great smash burger. Very mustardy apparently. I'll have to come back and try it myself! I mobile ordered for pickup and it worked out smoothly. I'd do that again I think.

Christopher H.

Yelp
This is a perfect place for someone who is a great fan of smash burgers. The edges of the burger are crispy with a very soft and delicious bun. While I feel that the sauce could taste more tangier and strong they also provide multiple variety of sauces on the side. We also got chili cheese fries on the side and they provided a large amount enough for 2-3 people. This is great food to be paired with a nice cold beer that they also have at the restaurant. The service was nice and attentive and the insides was clean with a good amount of seating. Parking was fairly difficult as it's in downtown Santa Ana and I could only find street parking.

Taylor Y.

Yelp
The location of the restaurant is in a good area filled with shops and restaurants. When you walk in, you order your food at the counter and sit at the tables in the back. It was pretty spacious and had a lot of tvs for sport watchers. For the food, it came out pretty quickly. We got the original smash burgers, shoe string fries, and sweet potato fries. I thought the burger was a bit too greasy for my liking; there was a lot of grease on the plate. But I did enjoy the crispy edges of the meat itself. Their signature hammer sauce was a mustard based sauce and worked well with the onions, cheese, and briny pickles. The fries were very good. They were light, crispy, and were not greasy at all. I also liked how they had a variety of sauces you can get near the utensils. We tried the hammer, garlic, white bbq sauce, and ranch. They were all very delicious and went well with the fries. Overall, this is good smash burger place in the OC area, but I think For the Win is better. They have burgers where you don't taste the greasiness.

Yelp
Was craving a SMASH BURGER, so I went on 'the hunt'. Of course, I headed to my trusty YELP APP! *wink* I found Hammer Burger, which was a ways from home, but the drive turned out to be WELL WORTH IT! The team members who assisted me were kind and informative--some friendlier than others, but overall, it was a decent experience nonetheless. The atmosphere was upbeat, with a pretty well-rounded playlist of 'bangers' worthy of singing along to. The space was well-lit, mostly by natural light, with ample room inside in almost two sections, plus an outdoor seating option. High and low-top seating options were available, and the interior was clean and simple. [MY ORDER] Classic Hammer Burger: Hammer Sauce | house-made pickles | grilled onion | American cheese | potato roll Comments: Wowee! This was heaven. The pillowy potato bun was soft but held it all in! I love pickles, and these babies were homemade and tasty. The American cheese was oh-so-melty. The meat was crispy, well-seasoned, and crunchy, getting tastier with each bite! I got a single patty and would suggest getting a double if you're on the hungrier side. PRO-TIP: Take the crispy meat lattice and fold it back onto the bun or into the burger to get every crispy bit! It's less messy too. Shoestring Fries Comments:The fries complemented the burger as fries usually do, but I wished there was just a little more "meat" inside. They were a bit crispier/crunchier than I would have liked. This could be a simple fix by requesting less cook time. Plus, there are other side options like the fried pickles, onion rings, and even sweet potato fries that I want to try! Overall, I love HAMMER BURGER and will certainly be back to explore more menu options! BE SURE TO VISIT HAMMER BURGER & LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ORDER! Thanks for having me and serving up some meeean SMASHIES! CHEERS!

Peter S.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Burgers are great, a perfect smash burger with a crispy crust. They have 6 different house made sauces that are great for dipping fries or even burgers. The fries are very well seasoned, not just plain salt and could be eaten by themselves without any sauce. I highly recommend coming here for a burger and supporting this local business.

Veronica G.

Yelp
Okay my husband and I were on a hunt for the best smash burger in town and we found this place! I ordered the spicy Smashburger. It was a hit! The chili cheese, fries, and the fried pickles, of course sooo good. They make all of their sauces and house. Our favorite was the jalapeño ranch. They have good options for the kids. Super friendly staff priced very well. Not to mention they have happy hour from 3 to 6. 10/10 experience! we will be back!

Tay K.

Yelp
I LOVE SMASH BURGERS! every single time I've came here there's always been a huge line out the door, but well deserved because the burgers here are truly great Service is really good and fast, despite how busy they get The space is very clean and the way you get ur food after u order is very efficient I love getting the spicy calibama smash burger cus it comes with jalapeños which I'm a sucker for I love the fried pickles and onion rings here.. they're the best sides Their milkshakes are also super fire and slap so hard on a hot day Highly recommend to anyone looking for some good ass smash burgers!

John O.

Yelp
Crafted beer selection including pickle beer?! I'm in. Oh and the most awesome decadent smash burgers. Generous serving of fries. It's all a five star that makes me want to return right away even if Santa Ana is going to gouge me to park.

Tinea M.

Yelp
Food: Tried this place after riding around downtown looking for burger joints and we were definitely not let down. This burger is so crispy, flavorful, savory, but NOT greasy. It leaves you feeling full without feeling heavy. The classic burger was my first choice because I wanted to see how their plain burger is and it was delicious. Their fries are seasoned to perfection and oh so crunchy. I also took a seat at their bar and ordered the peach punch kombucha which had good flavor. Service: The employees were all so nice and quickly took our orders and brought our food to us. The bartender was very nice and made sure that we were enjoying our meal and provided recommendations for our drinks. Ambiance: This can be a family establishment, date night spot, or lunchtime grab and go. It's well decorated on the inside with a modern feel at the bar and a rustic vibe with high top tables in the main dining area. The outside has a funky design with lots of graffiti that makes it stick out. We will definitely be back at this establishment!

Jonathan Z.

Yelp
I usually don't make it into DTSA, but I really wanted to try Hammer Burger. All my friends have gone and their pictures made me so damn hungry. Parking in this area could be awful, but I was able to find a meter close by. The burger here was excellent. It's the best smash burger I've ever had. The crispy lace was on another level. I couldn't believe they could get the burger so thin. As a side, those onion rings were killer. I took mine to go, but you could order at the counter and find a nice spot to chill. They also have a sweet bar, so you could have a beer and burger too.

Iman E.

Yelp
Came here for dinner as we've been on a recent smashburger kick. These just were not my style at all. I get the name is hammer burger but these were burgers were so smashed that they were just crispy pieces of meat that had no moisture left. Not my jam at all. But I do like juicy burgers. The fries were really good and the fried pickles were ok. Service was quick, parking is easy with plenty of street metered parking available. For a burger and beer joint I was impressed at how clean the bathrooms were.

Yelp
I've found the best smash burger spot in OC! I've heard many good things from friends who have tried Hammer Burger and I finally got the chance to check it out yesterday for dinner and I was blown away by how good the burgers are here. Service was quick and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing and inviting. They have a variety of smash burgers and melts and are currently making a birria burger for their monthly special. I got the spicy smash burger and a side of fries for myself and it was delicious! The patties were perfectly smashed and were huge compared to the bun. The cheese mixed with the jalapenos, sauce, and onions made for such a rich flavor combination with the patties and I would have ordered a 2nd one if I wasn't so full. The fries were fried well and had a good amount of salt on them and I appreciated the fact that their sauces are made in house and my favorite was the jalapeno ranch. I'm for sure coming back soon for more delicious smash burgers and I can't wait to share this spot with my other friends who haven't tried Hammer yet!

Yelp
Yum yum yum Pit stop from driving back to San Diego and so worth it. We got the spicy smash and calibama Q with a basket of fries. Excellent. Service was fast too! It was a little hot inside as it seems they don't have AC BUT it's okay. The food was well worth it. Remember to get the sauces. Garlic and white bbq was my favorite.

Yelp
The skirt on the Hammer burgers is so big and so crispy, a smash burger in the truest form. You can't go wrong with the classic hammer burger and while it may appear small it's actually quite filling. Order at the counter, find a table and be sure to place your tracker on the correct spot on the table so that it connects to their system and they know where to deliver your food. I appreciated that they had a self serve sauce bar and you don't have to pay extra for items like their white bbq sauce or spicy ranch. At $10 for the classic burger and $4 for a side of onion rings, you're getting a great value here.

Yelp
Been wanting to find a place that does smash burgers well and fairly close by. This places checked all the boxes and also served beer. I think they had some ciders and seltzers. You order up front and they deliver your food to you. The seating area has a couple TVs and the NBA finals was showing. The wife and I just got their normal burger and onion rings. Always good to get a baseline. They have a variety of sauces and even have a garlic spread type sauce. Looking forward to comeback and try the other items on the menu.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have been on a smash-burger kick lately and kept seeing this place on social media. Decided to visit on a Saturday during lunch and there was no wait! Staff was friendly and gave us recommendations since we're newbies. They give you a buzzer while you wait for your food. Lots of seating inside and really clean. They also have a self-serve station for all their sauces. Their ranch is really good! We ordered a spicy smash, double calibama (you can ask for double or even triple patties), and hammer fries. The spicy smash was delicious and the jalepenos were spicy! Loved the bread and how thin the patties were. The hammer fries were HUGE, you can definitely share 1 order with 3 people. We had to take leftovers home. we think this is way better than the popular smash burger spots in LA! this spot is located downtown so parking might be a little tough to find. But highly recommend checking out the small shops around this restaurant if you're able to :)

Yelp
Parking: there's a structured parking lot behind the building. Came with four other friends and we got spicy smash, onion rings, and chilli fries. I would literally give a 10 out of 10 on all items, especially the onion ring was a hit. The burger was so good and it's definitely on the spicy and even saucy end. Food came out pretty fast and it's a nice ambiance to hang out with friends and coworkers. Highly recommend if you are looking for a lunch spot with friends in the area.

Yelp
Came here to try their famous hammer burgers. We ordered their classic and it was good. Slightly over smashed in my opinion. They also have a huge selections of sauces and dips. They pair very well with fries and burgers. The service was good and quick. The seating area was ok not too comfy but good for a quick bite.

Yelp
1. The burger looked intimidating at first, but the buns definitely held everything together to avoid a mess! The milkshake also tasted delicious! 2. The spot has fun casual vibes that also serve alcohol! 3. There are plenty of indoor seatings! 4. The staff were friendly and timely with my order! 5. Street parking and parking lots with time restrictions are nearby! Note: There are two gender-neutral restrooms to reduce lines! Photo: Shoestring Fries, Classic Hammer Burger, and Milkshake

Yelp
My first time trying a smash burger and I tried the spicy one! It was so dang delicious. I was happy to see a plethora of sauces available and I grabbed some ranch for my fried pickles and got the chipotle sauce which was such a great addition to the already spicy burgers. My gal got the classic and it was definitely easier to hold than my spicy burger but I loved it all the same. Oh man, she had fries as well and I thought they were the perfect amount of salt and crispness. Plenty of tables to sit and they had a nice selection of alcoholic drinks with also a separate bar seating area. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
After hearing about the craze for smash burgers, I finally had the opportunity to try one. Based on a friend's recommendation, I visited Hammer Burger and ordered their classic Hammer Burger along with a side of shoestring fries. The burger had a light juicyness to it, with a good amount of smashed meat, a crispy lace, two pickles, hammer sauce and perfectly soft buns. It was definitely an interesting texture experience! Unfortunately, the shoestring fries weren't good at all--they tasted stale and hard. This might have been my fault for coming an hour before closing, so they probably weren't fresh. It was a bit disappointing because fresh fries would have complemented the burger much better. Do you love sauce? One of the highlights of my visit was the sauce bar! It offered a variety of unique and tasty options to enhance the meal. My personal favorites were the chipotle and garlic sauces. The chipotle sauce added a smoky, spicy kick, while the garlic sauce was garlicky and creamy, making for an irresistible combination. Hammer Burger has a good amount of seating, serveral tvs, and various beers on tap. However, finding parking can be challenging during peak lunch and dinner times because there is mostly street parking. Overall, Hammer Burger provided a fantastic dining experience with delicious smash burgers and a creative twist with their sauce bar. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to try a smash burger!

Yelp
Hammer Burger was suggested by my cousin after a morning at the museum. We had been at the Bowers in Santa Ana for the Anime Comics exhibit and Free Museum Day. Since we were hungry, we agreed to make the trek to DTSA for lunch. I had not been to Hammer Burger yet but I had friends who have been and they enjoyed it. We parked at the structure and walked over. There was a short line. We looked at the menu and ordered a Spicy Smash ($11) and a basket of onion rings ($7). You pay at the register and then they give you a buzzer to keep on your table. We opted for water cups but next time we will order the shakes. My cousin went with the Spicy Smash and side of fries. The Spicy Smash is a smash-burger with a crispy meat skirt topped with chipotle mayo, hot sauce, pepper jack cheese, and grilled onions. It was pretty good. I almost did not want to share it with my husband. The onion rings were the BEST! We really enjoyed those. They arrived at our table fresh from the fryer. The fries are kind of disappointing for shoestring fries. Onion rings over fries for me. Check out their sauce bar for a wide array of sauces like chipotle, jalapeno ranch, garlic sauce, and their house sauce. Of all places to have a cheat meal, this one ranks at the top. If you are craving a burger, check out Hammer Burger in DTSA for your next one.

Yelp
Met a friend here for lunch this week and was blown away! Tbh, most of the time the food is the star of the show, and this place is no different, but the staff here were uniquely excellent. Not only were they super engaging and friendly, but they were very intentional and checked up on us multiple times. The food is incredible, and to my knowledge one of the only smash burger joints in the area. We got the Spicy Smash at the recommendation of the staff and it did not disappoint. They also have a full sauce bar of house made sauces that is delicious! The ambiance is standard for a counter burger joint, with TVs, high tops, and low tables. PRO-TIP: weekdays between 2-5 are happy hour. 20% off the menu and $2 off beers.

Yelp
My husband's a burger enthusiast so we thought we'd check this place out and it was a good choice! We both got the classic burger- super crispy on the edges but it was a little too greasy for my taste. My husband enjoyed everything about it and we both agree it's about on par with Shake shack. I'd come back to try another burger on their menu, but maybe pat it down a bit first haha We got the fried pickles and they were SO good- the pickles with the chipotle ranch or regular ranch were the stars of my night. The fries weren't bad but I wouldn't order them again, pretty average. Their sauce is interesting it's mustard based rather than other burger sauces that are more Mayo/ketchup based, it's good on the burger for sure but not my fav for the dipping. They've got a bunch of sauce options though! Service-wise food came out fast and they were pretty attentive, it's an order at the front & they bring it to you place. Overall a good bang for your buck!

Yelp
This spot is located in a good location right next to the food hall in Santa Ana. Pro tip, you can park in the structure for free for 2 hours. My friend introduced me to this spot, and it doesn't disappoint if you're looking for something greasy and filling. At first glance, the Classic Hammer looks small but is surprisingly filling. My favorite is to mix the jalapeño ranch with their garlic sauce. Sometimes towards the end, the burger can feel a little too greasy and is hard to finish, so definitely come here hungry.

Yelp
The best smash burger around! Honestly every time I come to Hammer Burger I feel like I'm eating with friends. The service is always top notch and super friendly. Staff offers suggestions and recommendations. I love sitting at the bar but they also have a dining room with TVs where you can catch a game! Tons of options on the menu and beer taps! If you're in the mood for an amazing burger-the one with the perfect Maillard crispy ends-This is the place!
