We recently held our wedding ceremony and reception at the Hampshire House in Beacon Hill. Sydney was the Catering Sales Manager who coordinated our event. When we were looking for a venue for our wedding it was important to us that the space felt like it had lots of character and enchantment. I wanted my guests to feel like they were being transported to another time and place and have a wonderful experience through the visual presentation. Upon touring the Hampshire House, we immediately fell in love with the sophistication of the old Bostonian mansion, the library with its wooden shelves and gorgeous fireplace, the warm and rich colors of the space with its ornate décor and intimate charm. The location is fantastic with the Boston Public Garden directly across the street which made for magical photos with the fall foliage. Hampshire House evoked the exact whimsical and romantic feeling that we were looking for. Sydney and her team worked diligently with us from the first steps of planning through scheduling, menu selection, rentals and coordination of vendor logistics with load in and out, etc. Sydney offered great insight and experience into the planning process and was there to make sure our big day was everything we could have dreamt of. I felt that the Hampshire House team thought of every detail to make us feel special and as for day of logistics, I was so pleased to find that they took care of essentially everything leaving no added stress to our day. They were very communicative and accommodating to our requests and even held on to some items for us that had been forgotten after the reception until we were able to come back to pick them up. The food was incredible, my guests are still raving about the decadent flavors and beautiful presentation of every item on the menu. The Hampshire House is a top notch venue with an incredible customer experience, do yourself a favor and book your wedding or special event with them!

We recently celebrated our wedding at the Hampshire House, and it was absolutely magical! The venue’s classic New England charm, with its stunning wood decor and proximity to Boston Common, made it an ideal setting for our intimate wedding. Every detail was flawless, thanks to the incredible support of Sydney Turnbull, our sales manager and wedding coordinator. Sydney is a true gem—professional, warm, kind, and exceptionally knowledgeable. She went above and beyond, guiding us through each step with ease, from helping us choose the perfect chairs to coordinating seamlessly with our vendors and guests. Her dedication and support made the planning process smooth and stress-free. The food was also outstanding, especially the sea bass and chocolate raspberry cake, which our guests raved about. We received so many compliments on both the delicious dishes and the excellent service. We are so grateful to Sydney and the Hampshire House team for creating our dream wedding day. Thank you for making our celebration unforgettable!

We cannot say enough good things about the Hampshire House. We just had our wedding there on 10/12/24 and we still can’t believe how perfectly everything went. We were lucky enough to work with Victoria who went above and beyond to make sure every detail was exactly how we had imagined. From answering many, many, emails, to helping us with all of our decor, to making sure the day ran seamlessly. She was fantastic! All of my vendors were able to easily get in contact with her and set up the day of which eased the stress on myself and my family. That goes to say that everyone we worked with that day was also super friendly and extremely accommodating. The food was amazing. It was hard to narrow down our choices from the tasting because everything was so good. We worked with Dessert Works for our cake since they work directly with the Hampshire House and it was beautiful. We chose the Hampshire House because we wanted an intimate wedding (50 guests) and as soon as we saw pictures we knew it was the place. If you’re looking for a city wedding with a timeless and cozy feel, this is the place!

We were lucky to be invited to an intimate wedding at this venue. It has classic New England charm, with beautiful art, high ceilings and elegant woodwork. The food was pretty good for wedding food. They surprisingly had enough space to make a small dance floor, which we took advantage of dancing the night away.

Visiting from the UK, we booked Thanksgiving lunch well in advance as this was a recommendation. The venue is very classy, beautiful setting for a wedding and indeed for lunch. The staff were a letdown, the lady on reception was surly to the point of rude and very bizarre, but our waiter went off with one of our credit cards, not just to take payment but literally walked off without returning it. Food was 'good' but would have expected elevated presentation from a venue of this distinction.

From beginning to end, Hampshire House and Lindsay were so easy to work with. At the start of our wedding planning adventure, there was so much stress around all of the little bits and pieces we would need to get this event together. As soon as we reached out to Hampshire House - oh, it was great. They take care of it all and the quality is exceptional. Hampshire House delivered on food. They delivered on ambience. They delivered on professionalism and service. They delivered on drinks. Our guests have described our wedding as magical, unique, cozy, beautiful, warm, well organized. All things we wanted and looked for in a venue. We are so happy with our decision to work with the team at Hampshire House. Thank you Lindsay and team for having things run so smoothly. Hampshire House is the venue to book if you’re looking to deliver a beautiful and memorable Boston wedding. We had a winter wedding and couldn’t be happier with our decision. We recently celebrated our small wedding at the Hampshire House and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. From start to finish, the entire experience was outstanding, thanks to the exceptional professionals at Hampshire House and our incredible event coordinator, Sydney. The staff’s attention to detail and commitment to excellence ensured that our wedding day was nothing short of magical. We were particularly impressed with how seamlessly the operations were executed - big thank you Karim!! From coordinating vendors to managing the flow of the event, everything was executed with precision. The catering was excellent, with delicious food and impeccable service provided by the staff. Our guests were not only impressed by the beautiful venue but also by the level of service they received throughout the evening. Sydney is a true gem and has been an absolute pleasure to work with! From our initial visit to the wedding day, Sydney exhibited a level of professionalism, expertise, and effectiveness that made the entire process smooth and stress free. Sydney - you saved us many countless hours of planning!!! Your willingness to go above and beyond, even recommending last minute makeup artists, truly made a difference in bringing our vision to life! The Hampshire House, with its historic charm, elegant ambiance, and a beautiful grand piano, provided the ideal setting for our celebration. The venue’s two levels offered wonderful sunset views over the Public Garden and a seamless transition between cocktail hour and reception. The investment in Hampshire House and its exceptional team, with their top-notch service and delightful cuisine, is undeniably worthwhile for any event. We were so glad we got to celebrate our wedding here and we would choose the Hampshire House again in a heartbeat! Photos are by the talented Nicole Chan! Sydney and the Hampshire House, we can’t thank you enough for making our wedding day truly unforgettable!

If you are looking for a classic historic mansion in Boston to host a wedding this is the place. We had our wedding reception here and everything was perfect, from the food to the decor. We worked with Sydney and she was the best in responding to all of my questions. She was very polite and made sure the day ran smoothly. Our wedding was beautiful, more than 75% of our guest were visiting from out of town and really enjoyed Hampshire House. We keep hearing from our friends and family how delicious the food was and they were so full at the end of the night they barely had room for wedding cake. Sydney and her staff are very professional and made sure everyones allergies were addressed, everyone was very pleased with the service. The night flowed so smoothly, I could not have asked for anything better.

Yelp
My partner and I came to Hampshire House for Thanksgiving dinner this year and it was nothing short of excellent! The building and the atmosphere inside are just gorgeous and very elegant. The service was also top notch, very attentive and friendly. And most of all the FOOD was PHENOMENAL!!! I got the traditional turkey dinner and everything was cooked to perfection. The cranberry sauce in particular was to die for! If we ever come back to Boston for the holidays again, we certainly know where we'll be dining!

Yelp
SO although on the staircase into the basement was the only REAL Cheers from the TV Series, the food was better than expected. Good portion size and the New England Clam chowder was one of the better one per my wife who had a bowl everywhere we went, including Wells Maine, which was the next stop on our trip.

Melissa H.

Yelp
The chowder tasted like Campbell soup. Service wasn't that great a bit slow. Very over priced for what it is.

Melissa Y.

Yelp
We truly could not be happier with our choice of venue at the Hampshire House. As the first wedding in our generation on both sides, and with one international side of the family, wedding planning was daunting to say the least! Hampshire House was the perfect place for us newbies- they walked us through every step of the planning process, were so responsive and helpful and patient and accommodating, and our coordinators Michele and Lindsey were truly phenomenal on the day of as well. The party is well run, flowing well and with excellent servers and staff, without me needing to micromanage or even manage anything! On top of that, the venue itself is gorgeous, photographs beautifully, and is a perfect location for out-of-towners. Our 56 person wedding was a great size for the HH, and the dance floor worked great with this size too. We highly recommend the Hampshire House!

Yelp
Hampshire House is known to many as the face of Cheers, an old television series that was set in Boston, featuring bartender Sam Malone, a retired baseball player and a cast of characters including sometime love interest, first waitress Diane Chambers, then later on, boss-lady Rebecca Howe; Coach, Carla, Norm, Cliff, Woody, and psychiatrist Fraiser - later star of the spin-off, titled "Fraiser." Upon alighting the stairs and passing through the front entrance, a reception area greets visitors and directions may be obtained. The bar is up front, the Cheers themed gift shop just behind to your left. As for me, I was directed to the third floor with a choice of two narrow old fashioned elevators, or the semi-grand stairway. Our private party was afternoon tea party themed. The larger room was set with a podium in one corner, and a number of tables (and chairs) set around the room. The food was nicely spread out on a long table in the next room in buffet self-serve style, while a single person bathroom was located just off a third room that we had access to. There was a nice variety of sweets and savories, and these were not your dainty ladies' tea portions, but rather hearty and impossible to stack one of everything on a single plate. But I didn't mind making return visits.

Yelp
Mike and I had our wedding reception there 9/10/22. I apologize for writing this review so late. The entire experience was flawless. Michele was an amazing manager and coordinator and took care of every detail. The food was exceptional. Our guests are still raving about the experience. A true Boston historic site with with an element of luxury and service that was top notch. Thank you Hampshire House for all that you do and preserving this historic site.

Yelp
In here for several events and they host anywhere from dance parties to weddings in any other celebrations. This time around I attended the luncheon and reception for the Beacon Hill village "creative kitchens". Most of the events occur on the second floor where the library is which is attached to the bar. The signs are of Victorian mahogany wood. They also have a third floor where there's more space. They do a good job catering to the public with some decent food for the masses. Is the food 5 star? Not exactly but it's definitely standard and certain items can be considered above standard. The service very professional and the people were gracious. The only issue about this small location is that the bathrooms only have two stalls in the women's bathroom. I don't think they qualify for all accessible. Overall, it is a very cool historical building right above Cheers. It is worth checking out or visiting. Also, they have a charming view of the public garden.

Irina C.

Yelp
Very nice historical place. Great architecture in the inside, great spot for the weddings !!

Andrew C.

Yelp
Intimate hideout right next a busy Boston Commons. I came here for a wedding and had a great time. Old style bookshelves as the background and small rooms to feel like you're in an intimate place. The original Cheers is right downstairs that I did not go into. There is a separate listing for that specific business.

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
I joined Ligaya for the Cheers for Children auction at the Hampshire House, otherwise known as that place planted above Cheers. They did a terrific job decorating the space for Christmas. It has the feeling of a historic manor with wood detailing, high ceilings, and colonial decor. The building has a beautiful center staircase and chandelier that are the focal point as you make your way around the space. Hampshire House would be great to host parties, business functions, or weddings should you be looking for spaces. They also have brunch there on Sundays, so I read? The event itself was great. There was an insane amount of people but it was manageable for walking. There were lots of bars setup throughout the building so refilling your "juice" was no problem. The items up for auction were INCREDIBLE and VERY fairly priced. My winning bid of $60 won me a picture of Boston Common during First Night valued at $120. Other items for auction included a deep-sea fishing trip, a variety of wine/beer/liquor packages, Boston sports collectibles/tickets, and a kayak. The drinks were tasty, the hors d'ouvres were yummy, and the staff was friendly. They had a little dinner buffet setup on one of the floors where I eagerly scooped a heaping pile of mac n' cheese...I was thoroughly disappointed and would need to sample some more of their food before hosting any party of mine here. But all in all, a great time.

Brian M.

Yelp
Loved it! My wife and I went for a James Bond dinner and a movie. They sit your party down with other parties to share a table (assuming you don't fill a table to yourself.) Bring you your salad / soup, main dish / dessert then the movie starts. It was a great experience and a classic Boston atmosphere. We could see the Boston Gardens from the second floor windows. I had the steak - very tasty. We enjoyed the people we sat with. Looking around, it seemed that most people had the same experience. Mostly this gets the 5 stars because it was great fun. I'd go back.

Yelp
We brought a group of 40 to Hampshire House for business dinner. We had the top floor to ourselves which included a dining room, a separate room with bar and another room for lounging. The dining tables were lovely - set with votive candles, small bud vases with roses and menus with our group name/logo. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We received a lot positive feedback from the dinner guests who enjoyed their meals and the ambiance of the evening. Taylor, Karim and their staff provided excellent service throughout the night and were attentive to our guests with dietary restrictions. For impeccable service and a memorable meal we highly recommend the Hampshire House for your next event!

Yelp
We had our office party here last week. What to expect if you are attending a party: - Great wait staff and bartenders. - Prompt service - Classic New England architecture and decor - Your run of the mill food - shrimp cocktail, little pizza pieces, little tarts, etc. Nothing special. What to expect if you are throwing a party: - A great location - near the T but also has valet parking - Choice of space, you can open up doors and occupy multiple rooms, or close things off and have something more intimate. - Impressive interior, with old school portraits, etc. Old school atmosphere that is actually hard to find. In the last few years, I have hosted/attended only a few functions. If The State Room is a 10 and Bravo is a 4, HH is probably a 6.5. Not bad, but nothing that blows you away either...

Elly J.

Yelp
As a wedding officiant conducting wedding ceremonies around Boston, I must specifically praiseThe Hampshire House. It is an exquisite venue for a guest list up to 100. The Library is old world elegant. The staff is highly service oriented and treats everyone with great care and flexibility. The wedding coordinator, the waitstaff, all are working as a team, relaxed, prepared, professional. The young woman at the reception area was so kind when I called about having left an item behind, I already look forward to meeting her when I pick it up on Monday. Class act.

Ian M.

Yelp
Sure it's upstairs from the Cheers bar, where I've taken a few family tourists for the obligatory beer. But upstairs is a different story. Classy Beacon Hill decor in a house with lots of history. Sunday Brunch is excellent, I really enjoyed their Bloody Mary Bar. The dinner and movie events are a better date night for the films than blowing twice as much at the common and eating popcorn and soda. The staff is professional and attentive. Even in a busy room they made us feel welcome and special.

Yelp
I came here with a few friends during Restaurant Week Boston in 2007 and had a great time! Most of this review's praises will go towards the ambiance, being that this is in an old mansion, and the actual dining area was the library, with REAL books! I had the salmon dish, while everyone else had the other items on the menu (steak medallions, pork chops, etc), and had a good chance to taste everything. The food didn't knock my socks off, but it was pretty damn good, and definitely lived up to my expectations. Again though, this is one of the most unique dining experiences I've ever had, and I would definitely consider going there again.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Love this place! I came here for restaurant week with a friend and had the most wonderful dinner. I would give this place 4.5 stars, but for some reason our food took forever (both when compared to other diners and just in general) so id have to round down to a 4. I had the lobster bisque to start which was delicious and had lots of chunks of lobster. For the main course, I had a rack of lamb with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The lamb was cooked well and seasoned perfectly and the sides complemented the meat very well. For dessert, we had a trio of chocolate which included chocolate soup, chocolate bread pudding, and chocolate creme brulee. Everything was delicious and the service was good, but I'm not sure why it took so long to get our food. The place had an awesome beacon hill feel with shelve-lined walls and lots of books. The night we went was not crowded at all, so it was a very quiet and pleasant dining experience. Our server was so nice and attentive. I would definitely come back here.

Laura K.

Yelp
Krissy and Leni were looking for a fancy schmancy place that offered good deals during restaurant week, and a place where these Bostonites have never been. Who goes to "Cheers" anyway? But the Hampshire House upstairs should be sampled by Boston residents. A table of 5 girls getting drunk on martinis and wine, and the cute waiters didn't act annoyed with us at all. Excellent 3-course meal for $30.09 - I had an asparagus soup, steak with foie gras and potatoes and veg, and everyone got the same dessert- a trio of mini chocolate creme broulee, an apple turnover and chocolate bread pudding. The chocolate desserts were divine and not too overly sweet, you could really taste the chocolate. The atmosphere was fun and old school, and felt grand but warm. Check out the really tall spiral staircase too.

Gina B.

Yelp
Because we were having a small wedding, we were looking for a unique setting with an old-Boston ambience and Hampshire House fit the bill perfectly. From our first meeting with Michelle Reid, we knew we were in good hands. She was super responsive and a great help as we planned. Not once did we worry that any detail would be forgotten or overlooked. She and Karim took great care of us and our guests on the day. All our friends and family raved about the food, the cake and the service. The cocktail and dinner rooms were laid out beautifully, and Michelle coordinated with our other vendors to make everything go smoothly. Would definitely recommend!

Jennifer D.

Yelp
I can't believe Doug was the first, and I'm the second, over a year later to review this place. I suppose locals don't hang out here much. Once a private family mansion, built in 1910, then turned hotel, now turned private event space, the Hampshire House is another great piece of Boston's History. We had an event last night in a library with adjoining bar area that had the potential to be a smashing success had anyone actually shown up. The bartender made one of the best Sidecars I've ever had, and a really yummy blueberry acai drink too. We also had a scotch rep on site to do tastings, and scotch just seems to go with the decor, so how could we not try it out? The food they served was excellent - I really recommend the stuffed mushrooms should you ever have the opportunity to try them, and the chocolate fondue was great, but how could it not be? The fireplace in the library was gorgeous and if I knew my stones better I could tell you for sure what it was - it was white and soft and translucent looking. The books were the real deal; yeah I had to look through one. This isn't a museum per se, and no one yelled at me for doing so and how could I not?! Stop judging me! However, I can't say I was too impressed with whoever they hired to do the decorative painting of the woodwork. It was incredibly sloppy and very obviously fake in lots of areas, which was really a shame. And if it's original (which I doubt), then shame on that artist from 100 years ago! The staff was great - really friendly and helpful. And for folks that aren't into old history of this nature, it is attached to Cheers, so there's that. I'd really recommend this location for an event. I also took a peek at the Thanksgiving menu (they do serve special occasion meals to the public here as well, and Sunday Jazz Brunch September-June), and for $55, I'd recommend that any locals that were thinking of dining out for the holiday give this place a shot. I know I definitely would.

Alicia S.

Yelp
I had a Friday night welcome reception here for about 100 people. It was a cocktail reception with a dessert buffet. The Hampshire House was so wonderful and accommodating - Michele G. did such a wonderful job helping us to plan and set up the room. Michele sent us a ton of suggestions and different floor plans, and met with us several times to go over every single detail. She even set up a full candy buffet with materials that we had dropped off and worked with us to get extra flowers delivered from Winston's, and recommended a pianist at the last minute too! The event was wonderful - our guests raved about the space, the food and the service. We had a ton of out of town guests who loved being able to see the park, and be in the same building as Cheers. I highly recommend this venue for any occasion.

J T.

Yelp
Let me just say, for the budget bride, this is probably not in your price range. It is stunningly gorgeous with multiple rooms and a giant ornate staircase that would be fantastic for pictures, but unless you're having a small wedding of less than 70 people and can spend more than $20,000 on your wedding, you might want to look elsewhere. BUT, and there is a but, if you have a chance to go to their free event (you have to RSVP), you should. It was by far, the best bridal event I have ever been to - just go to their website (www.hampshirehouse.com), click on Weddings, HH Engagement Celebration and you'll see what I mean. There were waiters coming round with food everywhere (including lobster rolls), a huge cheese-fruit table and a ginormous dessert buffet table upstairs. And the best part is that you can win items. Surprisingly, there were not many people there so it is easier to win. I won a huge gift basket of stationary items. If this is the event to bring your future-husband to in order to get them excited about the wedding, this would be it. The vendors were slightly awkwardly placed in the smaller side rooms, but that cannot be helped with an old house which has tons of little rooms. But if you have a little bit more money to spend, this place is perfect for the engagement party or rehearsal dinner.

Nancy C.

Yelp
I had my second visit to The Hampshire House last night. I went to a "Shoe Ball" put on by the Hello Stiletto Shoe Club (http://www.hellostiletto.com/) . This venue was amazing! The high ceilings, the decor were so beautiful. The staff were wonderful.

Doug H.

Yelp
I can't believe I'm the first to rate this one! We tried this during Boston's restaurant week 2006 and had an excellent dinner. What drew us to it was the fact that it was the restaurant attached to what used to be the Bull and Finch and has become Cheers. The decor is like an mansion from the early 1900's and the room we ate in look like a large library. We were offered a small choice of a three course meal for the event, but each course we had was delicious. I started with a spinich green salad which was fresh and had a delectible dressing of their own creation. For the main course I chose the slow cooked hen with polenta and apricots. Very tender and juicy. Desert was also very good. I ordered the Boston Cream Pie but ended up with my wife's flourless chocolate cake which she found a little too rich for her tastes. Both desserts were excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to return just for that. The waitstaff was very friendly, not at all what you would expect from the prices they charge regularly. Funny story; When we were waiting for our table in the Oak Room (the overflow bar for Cheers) there were some men leaving saying "Cheers." We couldn't understand why they kept repeating the name of the bar until we were told they were British.

Daymeyn G.

Yelp
I am a fan, but this place is as good as it gets. On my first year in Beantown, I happened on the Hampshire House for Restaurant Week, which I had never done. A threesome for dinner set the stage one chilly winter evening and I was, to be honest, apprehensive about this dining experience. I had heard so many bad reviews about Bull and Finch I subconsciously associated Hampshire House with the pub. Big Mistake! For starters I had the Lobster Bisque. Wonderful, the balance of meat to milk was pleasing to my unsuspecting palate. For an entree our party had the succulent Beef Tenderloin which melted when you touched it. There was also a side of potatoes that my mates and I promptly smothered with any gravy left from the beef. Lastly came something I talked about for months.......The Valrhona Chocolate Torte. This dessert was orgasmic! I'm not gonna lie! The service is worth mentioning. Anyhow, if you are keen for a great meal on Beacon Hill, I say Hampshire House is totally worth its weight in gold!

Derek B.

Yelp
After attending a private event here, I want all my parties to be hosted here. It's a beautifully decorated tribute to what I imagine Beacon Hill should embody. The staff was very patient and kind to us, despite the mad rushes they had to deal with every time they brought a new appetizer out. If the catered food is anything like the restaurant, I will have to go back, and definitely more than just once.

Stacie R.

Yelp
I like going to this fancy restaurant for brunch and live jazz. They have what I believe is an authentic Monet. (The geek that I am just called to fact check, and will follow up with you shortly) Anyhow, you're seated in the mansions library, and it fills me with wonder of times passed. Behind the mansion walls must have visited the true Boston elite of the early nineteenth century.

Cami C.

Yelp
We are so happy that we chose Hampshire House as our wedding ceremony and reception venue!!! Their service is professional and phenomenal. The food is excellent, and the decor is classic. All our guests were very impressed and happy. Michele was our wedding venue coordinator. She provided tremendous help and advice during our planning! Without her, everything couldn't have come together so nicely on our wedding day! Thank you again for everything!

M A.

Yelp
One of the foremost downtown spots for a wedding. One of the most elegant dining rooms/reception areas I've ever laid eyes on. Feels like an Old English library. Right across from the Garden. Valet Parking. Separate entrance from the people cramming into the Cheers bar in the basement. Good staff. I'm not sure how many people the space holds, probably on the low side versus another spot that holds 300....Good locations matter! Not sure what it costs, but worth it!

kim r.

Yelp
The event staff are fanatastic! I could not have even begun wedding planning if not for the kindess, patience, and knowledge of Michelle. She was so flexible about our budget, made fantastic food recommendations, and organized the room beautifully. The wedding was intimate and lovely and when the unthinkable happened and my dress was spilled on she was at my side instantly with club soda. Many of my guests were from out of town and they all found the location easily, loved being able to look out over the park, and enjoyed the very Boston experience of being in a brownstone . As a winter bride we didn't have to decorate because of all the beautiful holiday decorations and light as the sun set was gorgeous.

Elizabeth T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to Sunday brunch here. They don't offer it during the summer months, so be sure to check before you go. Their website is pretty serious about reservations. We made one, but the restaurant was empty when we got there. Granted, we were there at 11am which can be early for Sunday brunch. Anyway, the food was really good and the atmosphere was lovely. This is the kind of place you take your mom on her birthday or celebrate an anniversary or something. A little on the pricey side, but it worth the splurge. Very quaint and proper. VERY Boston. Not sure if I would go back for just any old Sunday brunch, but definitely for something special.

E. L.

Yelp
We didn't eat at the restaurant, but friends of ours hosted their Rehearsal Dinner at the Hampshire House. We couldn't attend their out-of-town wedding, but I talked to Michelle with the Special Events Staff and arranged for them to serve the bride and groom-to-be with a bottle of champagne and a little note from us during the dinner. Everything went smoothly, and I'm very grateful for the extra effort that the Hampshire House made on what I'm sure was a very, very busy night for them just so that we could be in touch with our now-married friends even though they were far away. Thanks, Hampshire House!

Julia M.

Yelp
What a lovely place for an event! I've been to two now and have nothing but positive things to say about Hampshire House. The staff is great - polite, helpful, patient. The venue is very attractive and a nice change of pace from a sterile hotel ballroom. Plus, BHP is just a few minutes away - always a great way to end a night.

Michael C.

Yelp
Came here for an event, don't get me wrong. This is a classy old school New England establishment. If you are coming here for the environment you will be very happy. The food we had on the other hand wasn't all that great. I had some decent coconut chicken and a few other passed apps that were Ok. I don't know what an event costs here but it can't be cheap. There was also a pasta station, it looked cool but the pasta itself in the cream sauce was just alright as well. Service however was excellent.

Helen D.

Yelp
We held our rehearsal dinner at the Hampshire House in October and it was an extremely special experience. Many people commented how 'truly Boston' it felt. The entire event planning / sales staff was so friendly and helpful throughout the process. Some food highlights: - Crème Brulee Trio: just get it! It's totally worth it! Everyone RAVED about this! - Mushroom Ravioli App: fantastic! A hefty portion for an appetizer too! The only negative (and reason I thought about giving the Hampshire House 3 stars instead of 4) is that the food was really _really_ late to come out. We were asked to sit down (from the cocktail hour) almost an hour before they served the first appetizer. I'm not sure if any one of our guests was unhappy (they wouldn't tell us) - but the Bride & Groom definitely noticed how late it was and that none of our guests had any food in front of them. If the appetizers weren't ready - perhaps we could've continued the cocktail hour for a bit longer (so as not to highlight that things were delayed and not to force people to sit in front of an empty plate for an hour). We reasoned that this could be because we rented the third floor and not the second floor (which is clearly their poster child) - but it made us feel a bit like an afterthought. Regardless - the rest of the staff was extremely friendly and professional. If you're looking for a place to hold an event in a great location with that old boston feel - then look no further! The Hampshire House is a great spot!

Yelp
Went for Thanksgiving dinner. Nice atmosphere. Good but not great service. $55/person for a three course meal. Appetizers were tasty but very small. Small salad or soup bowl which wasn't even filled up and not very hot. Main course was good but the steak was very small and came with only two large shrimp. Veggies were not good. Tried all four dessert options. My daughter said the pumpkin pie was good. My wife and I didn't care for the apple pie which lacked apples or the mousse. The bread pudding was too dry. Overpriced wine completed the experience. Nice place but way too much money for not to much good food.

Yelp
I hosted a big event at this place with several vendors and pretty detailed work-flow logistics. I was satisfied with their level of service, set-up and management. They were professional throughout with prompt responses and a very high-standard for event management. I worked with Christinna Doucette - who was great throughout. I will definately host a party here again.

Yelp
My husband and I got married at this perfect place on June 15, 2014. Michelle and the entire staff treated us with the upmost respect, were highly organized, friendly and attentive. Our 88 guests and my husband and I had a perfect wedding. The food was superb, the decorations, the grounds, the service reception, music and time of events were done perfectly. We were so happy to have the perfect day, because we did not have to worry about anything. I will recommend the Hampshire House to any one who wants to have a perfect, well organized, Bostonian wedding in the heart of the Boston Public Gardens. Loved, loved, loved our wedding day!

Yelp
I attended a function at Hampshire House a few weeks ago - a wedding. I was very impressed with the overall feel of the event. The intimate (while still old-Boston impressive) feel of the venue was nicely highlighted by the attention to detail in the preparation, presentation, and service. I found the food to be quite tasty. The wait-staff were wonderful with great poise, personality, and attention. All of the other guests kept complimenting the event and everybody had a great time. Will consider Hampshire House for some of my own events in the future.

Yelp
Really disappointed, Hampshire House!! My family and I have been here many times years ago for your Sunday Brunch. However, when I called today to make a reservation for Mother's Day, I was told I needed to leave a credit card # in the event we didn't show and we'd be charged half of our meal, including our baby at a discounted price as he was one of our party. I have a career in the restaurant industry and I know how ignorant it is when parties don't show up, but for you to stoop low and do this is just disgusting. I'll be having my Mother's Day Brunch and future brunches someplace else where I'm not made to feel untrustworthy. As Julia Roberts said, "Big mistake...BIG...HUGE!"

Yelp
My husband and I just celebrated our wedding at the Hampshire House, and we would recommend them to anyone! Michele Ciccarelli was our coordinator, and she was fantastic. We were incredibly particular when it came to the details of the event, and Michele offered patient, informed, and accurate guidance to us every step of the way. While the planning process was smooth, it was the level of service and attention to detail that night that struck us over and over again. When we missed some of the appetizers, we were offered a sampler of all of them. And when we couldn't hold that sampler, it was delivered to our table. We loved how our flowers were repurposed through each phase of the night, creating the appearance of a much larger floral budget. We loved how beautifully the tables were set. My mother-in-law made bookmark escort cards and book table numbers, and was very specific about how she wanted them laid out, and they set them perfectly. Modern Pastry catered a massive dessert table at the end of the night, which my mother was in charge of. She, too, was very specific about how she wanted everything presented, and the staff at the Hampshire House did not disappoint. Everything Michele and the staff did -- whether a part of their normal routine or customized for us -- was done with style. And the food was amazing! We chose the Hampshire House largely because of the reviews of the food and our expectations were exceeded at every opportunity. The tasting earlier this year was elegantly presented, and the meal day-of was just as good for 110 guests. The chef did an excellent job from the delicious and unique cocktail hour offerings (and beautifully designed and presented display table) to the individually cooked-to-taste entrees. All of this, in a beautiful, elegant setting in the heart of Boston. Before choosing the Hampshire House, we searched the area pretty extensively and are convinced that, while not inexpensive, the Hampshire House offers by far the best value for a wedding available in Boston. We couldn't be more thrilled with the Hampshire House in general, and Michele's management in particular. Anyone with a similar guest count and budget to ours would be wasting their time to look any further. For throwing what many of our family and friends are describing as the best wedding they've ever attended, we highly recommend the Hampshire House, and will certainly keep them in mind if we have an event to plan in the future.

Yelp
I was married here at the end of October, and I can not even begin to say enough good things about the Hampshire House. The location is great, the staff (Especially Michele G) is incredibly helpful, and their Chef was so willing to create a menu based on my personal taste. We had a 40 person wedding, and the space was a perfect size. It felt intimate, but still had an environment that encouraged everyone to dance to our band! Finding a place in Boston like this is difficult and I could not be more thrilled that we held both our ceremony and reception in this gorgeous space!

Yelp
I wanted to have a small wedding, but the thought of doing it in a dreary hotel or restaurant depressed me. I found this place by googling "small but historic weddings in Boston". Hampshire House was the first place I found. I was nine months away from my wedding and assumed it was already booked, but magically my date was open. I worked with Michele Giacomozzi to plan the reception and she was so amazing and competent. She has loads of experience and thinks of every detail. My husband is a vegetarian and she worked with him to plan the perfect meal. I had relatives flying in from Australia and England for this event and they loved every minute of the wedding. It was so beautiful and intimate and everything I had imagined. Also, for what you get the per head rates are incredibly reasonable, given the fact you're in a Beacon Hill mansion with loads of atmosphere and overlooking the public gardens. An added bonus was being able to pretend we were old timey Boston people for the day haha.

Yelp
The Hampshire House deserves high marks for it's food, view of the Boston Garden (if you get the right table), and for the staff. Somehow, every time I go there I end up eating something unusual or creative, and it's always good! The chilled tomato soup (with truffle oil), fruit salsa on swordfish, jambalaya, all had some interesting sorts of ingredients or aspects that stood out in the right way. The Hampshire House has one of my favorite chef's for his ability to put together boldly contrasting, yet complimentary flavors. The dining area on the 3rd floor has especially great views of the Boston Garden in the Spring when the trees and flowers bloom. This view shows the overall arrangement of the garden and it's colors.

Yelp
Spectacular! Can't say enough great things about this venue. Just had my wedding there in May. So accommodating in the planning from start to finish. Everything went smoothly on the day, and everyone had a great time. It was the first and last stop on our wedding venue search. It had the old fashioned feel we were looking for (my dress was 30's/40's inspired) and a Boston theme (where we're from). We went with the a la carte menu to fit our budget, and were surprised how reasonable it was for a place of it's quality, and for the location in downtown Boston. My wedding planner Michele C was fantastic. I highly recommend any event there, and I hope others do too, so I can attend!

Yelp
We could not be happier with the amazing service and hospitality that the Hampshire House showed us this past weekend. We hosted a Jack and Jill bridal shower for my son and future daughter in law with approximately 35 people. Our goal was to have a "Boston Theme" particularly because the bride and her family would be traveling from Dallas. Our event manager, Michele Giacommozi was a delight to work with from beginning to end. She had the patience of a saint working with my ongoing questions and changes that I had made throughout the planning process. As the day approached, I felt completely comfortable that every detail would be carried out. The Library and the Baker bar could not have been a more beautiful spot for a luncheon. The staff working the day of the event were professional and accommodating to all of our guests. Every one in attendance simply had a wonderful time with delicious drinks, superb appetizers, great selection of dishes, and delicious deserts. I am so happy that we chose the Hampshire House,

Yelp
I just attended our company dinner at the Hampshire House - we rented out one of the rooms upstairs. Right from the start, I should have guessed it was going to be a bad experience. I pulled up behind a couple of my co-workers and we were waiting for the valet to take our cars. We were instructed to wait 10 minutes with our car - we could not even leave our keys with them. Doesn't that defeat the whole point of having a valet? I could have driven around downtown Boston and found a parking spot faster. Once inside, I told the bartender twice that I wanted a glass of red wine...he hands me a glass of white. The servers came around with the trays of hors d'oeuvres, napkins clenched in one hand, not even bothering to offer them to people. I guess if you needed one, you were supposed to grab one out of their hands yourself. And they didn't offer to take any of our trash (used napkins or toothpicks) - instead, they walked away after you took an hors d'oeuvre and instructed you to "just leave any trash on the table and someone would come around to get it later". I don't know about you, but I love having everyone's dirty napkins and used toothpicks in front of me as I'm sipping cocktails. Dinner itself was actually pretty good which is the only reason why I'm even giving the restaurant any stars at all. The appetizers - lobster bisque and spinach salad - were both good, but definitely nothing special. The main dish of salmon and halibut was very tasty. For dessert, they had a flambe station set up and it was pretty cool to see the guy cooking everything in front of us. I am definitely not a high maintenance diner...I mean, I'd be happy eating McDonald's and Wendy's...but I have been to enough high-end restaurants to know that the service at the Hampshire House was very poor for what they charge and the image they try to promote. And don't even get me started on how my night ended. I waited THIRTY MINUTES for the valet to get my car. There were co-workers of mine who took the T back to Cambridge and they were home before I even got my keys handed to me. I'm sure we paid a good chunk of money for this event and unfortunately, I left bitter and frustrated at the end of the night.

Yelp
I was a guest at a wedding here this weekend and it was truly amazing. The decor is classic and purely Bostonian, as the venue overlooks the Boston Public Garden. The food was incredible! It was a brunch wedding and there was a nice variety of fresh, well prepared food to satisfy anyone. The service was nothing less than excellent. Often at weddings, the service can vary, but everything was organized to perfection and the waitstaff was on it. I am a former waitress and I can tell you that every glass was promptly refilled and every empty plate was slipped away immediately. The waitstaff was also very friendly and seemed to really enjoy being there. After the wedding, I spoke to the wedding couple who told me over and over again how wonderful the wedding planning staff was to work with. They said that Hampshire House took care of every detail and made things really easy and worry free. They didn't give me a price, but they also said more than once that they had been surprised at how reasonable the cost was for the quality of wedding and service they received.

Yelp
The Hampshire House proved to be the perfect venue for my daughter's November 3, 2012 wedding reception for 60, and I can say with complete sincerity that absolutely everything was perfectly done. As an out-of-town mom, it was a pleasure to turn everything over to the more than capable staff, from setting the decorations and flowers to accommodating our personalized entertainment. All the food, from the cocktail reception through the full dinner, to cake and late treats for the partying guests was fantastic and we continue to receive compliments from guests on the ambiance, food, service, and all the little extras extended to make the evening outstanding for all. Additionally, we had a strict budget and the staff always had perfect suggestions for an elegant evening while staying on budget - we never felt pressured in any way to add services or go beyond our means. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
