Singapore Bib Gourmand 2024: Inspectors' Favourites

"Han Kee's fish soup features thick slices of mackerel, providing a meaty, bouncy texture. The clear broth is rich in umami, garnished with deep-fried minced garlic and fresh cabbage for added fragrance and sweetness. Expect long lines." - The MICHELIN Guide

If you go to Eastridge and don't care for mall food - or Olive Garden, Han Kee 2 is literally around the corner, a great choice for Cantonese food that won't break your bank. The restaurant is attached to a Chinese barbecue shop. The shop is the first thing you see from the strip mall and from the entrance. Most of daytime, there is little wait. But for dinner, occasionally there can be a short wait. Once you enter the dining area, you get a very traditional Cantonese menu. Dry fried beef chow fun. Salted pork and duck egg porridge. You name it. They also have lots of dishes based on their large repotoir of BBQ meats. Food usually comes quickly. Portions are generous. The taste is really what you expect. The most exciting treat for me is a soymilk drink that I do not find in other restaurants. Try it. You may like it, too. That part of Tully Road is at the edge of Little Saigon. There are lots of food choices in the area. But Han Kee 2 will always be a good choice when you want something fast and inexpensive.

They have the best noodles in town. I’ll try other dishes next time!

The restaurant is pretty darned divey, to be honest. But menu selection is good, they’re really friendly, it’s surprisingly quite clean, and the food is yummy. Won ton Soup are plump and not skimpy. Had some roasted garlic or something that adds a nice flair. Not on the menu, but they special made for us Singaporean chow mein (they have some thick noodles version). Very good. This part of review is strictly for the counter where you can buy cooked meats. BBQ park is very good. Not too fatty. Not to lean. Not too sweet. Just right! Roasted pork belly had excellent crispy skin and great taste. A few pieces were a little on the lean side. But I’m definitely coming back again now that I’ve found them.

11/27/2022 @11am, not very busy. The restaurant side closed. The to go and small sit down area is available. Roasted pig skin is crunchy but meat lacks flavor. The seafood chow mein and seafood porridge has flavor

I ordered the Hu Tieu Nam Vang. This restaurant makes a delicious noodle soup dish. Their Chinese donut and pork cuts were also very good. Fair price. Nice staff. Tasty meals.

I ordered some duck over rice. A side order of dimsum. All the food was cold (barely warm to the touch). The food tasted "old". Not fresh at all. The duck meat was like eating leather. The waiter service was horrible. I ask for my water..twice. And he was standing like 5 feet away from me. The waiter never checked to see how i was doing during my meal. Was it worth $21 ?....absolutely not. I will never come back here again. Both service and food quality was one of the worst ive tasted. Also the quantity of food for 20 bucks sucks. I should of gone for a buffet instead.

Yelp
Real Chinese food. I love the noodle soups at this restaurant. Tasty and hot on cold days. They also have fresh roast duck, pork, and cha sui. I usually order to go and have never been disappointed. I recommend checking them out.

Yelp
For San Jose - it's actually not bad! Service was very friendly. The lady that served us was cheerful and very nice. The steamed shrimp dumplings - as soon as they arrived I thought oh no...they looked bad. Shockingly they tasted better than they looked. The shrimp filling was quite peppery which I actually enjoyed. The dry beef chow fun was yummy and we quite enjoyed it. Had those nice bits of wok char on the noodles. Pretty good flavor and aroma. The seafood chow fun wasn't terrible but wasn't that good. Kind of bland and the seafood medley didn't have as much variety as majority of places that serve this dish. I personally wouldn't order this one again. Overall it was pretty good and the service was good. If craving Chinese food in the area - we'd come back.

Yelp
Soup is on point for us! Been going here forever like 30yrs! Broth is nice and clear not oily at all. My go to is the Roast Duck egg noodle soup always hit the spot and huge serving of it that I take the leftover home. combo seafood egg noodle soup and wonton noodle soup is what other family members orders. When feeling sick or dehydrated this is where to pick up your soup. They also have the bbq station to get your roast duck, pork, and charsui. This is a mom and pop so don't expect top service or clean place. Yes there are flies around so that's why I only gave a 3.

Yelp
Their price for pork brain is 8.99, but they charged me 17.50. They said the menu I looked at was too old right before the epidemic.

Yelp
I ordered roast duck to go and the butcher snuck in the neck. As I was eating it, I found multiple instance of sand grit and even a pebble in my food. I will never be coming here again as a cracked crown is very expensive!

Yelp
This place been around east San Jose for decades. Located on quimby and Tully this Asian restaurant serves a variety of soups, stir fry, and whole lotta different type of meats ready to eat. Me and my buddy both had the combination soup and a small plate of roasted pork belly. The pork belly was very good. It has the perfect amount of crispness and was very savory and soft in the middle. It also came with some kind of sauce that accompanied the pork very well. The soup gots lots of different types of meats and they have a variety of sauces on the table for you to put.

Yelp
This a food restaurant. Which mean if you are looking for something fancy then this is not your place. If you are a true foodie like me then you will appreciate this restaurant. The decoration is old, the restaurant is ok not the best but good. Service is good, everyone is friendly. So go check it out. Go foodie

Yelp
I like the Com Chien Ca Man there. It's one of the best rice disk I've ever had in my life.

Yelp
Saturday & there's some people here, not too many people though. We made order to go over the phone for Wonton soup, 2 order or Pho Ap chào & Crispy noodles, total at $80.00 & when we got there order extra roasted pork & duck. Costing over $120.00. Late night dinner for us, which taste more salty than anything else. But nevertheless filled our belly for the night.

Yelp
Very obscure location in small strip center. Very full on a Sat afternoon which I took as a good sign. Excellent wor wonton soup-not salty! Also very good roast duck, which we took home and made stir fried rice with on Sunday. Want to go back for other BBQ meats, they all looked great.

Yelp
The good: My family has been coming here since I was a kid (for over 25 years). We typically get the duck, bbq pork for wonton noodle soup or salty fish fried rice. Last night, I tried the tender greens (ended up being baby bok choy) with tofu, the salt and pepper shrimp, hot and sour soup and salted fish fried rice. The salt and pepper shrimp was delicious. It was cooked with jalapenos and onions and had a great wok oil flavor. They didn't skimp on the salt for sure. The shrimp exoskeleton was soft and crispy enough to eat. It cost $70 something for 4 dishes. I thought the prices were fair. The bad: The hot and sour soup was just okay. It's not something I'd order again. The flavors just weren't deep enough for me. There is no outdoor dining. The interior isn't the nicest or coziest so my family typically orders take out from here. It has a hole-in-the-wall feel as you'd expect from authentic Chinese duck spots. The interesting: There's a 2 in the name but I am not aware of there being another location.

Yelp
The service here is your typical family owned restaurant experience. There was a family member yelling in the back, so you know this place is authentic. The servers spoke Chinese, Vietnamese, and English. I came with my friend who spoke Vietnamese. They language swapped between customers and workers. I even heard Spanish too! Multilingual kings and queens here! I ordered the roasted duck egg noodles and roasted crispy pork. The food was amazingly delicious. The soup broth was flavorful to where I ate it without adding condiments in because I wanted to savor the flavor. I finished my bowl including the soup! You can order roasted duck, pork, and other meats to go or you can dine in. On one side of the restaurant is a smaller side but they do have a bigger room with more tables. They serve dim sum in the morning and I really need to try! I tried ordering dim sum in English but there was a language barrier there and I couldn't get it across until my friend spoke Vietnamese to them. They said they ran out of dim sum! Back in OC, I ate dim sum like every other week and I love shumai and was craving some. I haven't gone back since because I am scared to go alone, haha! I would really prefer and be more comfortable going with someone who spoke one of their languages. Perhaps, I can build up the courage and go? I think the noodles was a solid 9/10 and the crispy pork was a 8/10! I wish they did delivery because I would definitely order here. The price was reasonable and not overpriced like some of the other restaurants around. I would absolutely come back to this location! My friend said she has been coming here for a long time and the family has a rich and inspiring history. I love that their continuation to serve delicious food has been a tradition of theirs. I truly slept well after this meal!

Yelp
This is a hole in the wall restaurant, but nonetheless their seafood egg noodle soup is pretty decent. I love their fried shrimp cracker that comes with the soup! The soup base is light and not overpowering which I like...especially since I like adding in hoisin sauce and sriracha to add that extra kick to the broth. Other menu items I've tried: roast pork and shrimp and egg over rice dish The roast pork was super crunchy which I enjoyed. However, it was a bit on the salty side (some pieces). As for the shrimp and egg dish, it was pretty good. The texture and taste somewhat reminded me of an egg drop soup. On another note, parking can somewhat be a hassle especially since it's located in a busy plaza with other businesses.

Yelp
My go to for salted fish fried rice and duck when I have random cravings. I love that I can call ahead of time so it's ready Jen I go and pick it up.

Yelp
My family and I have been to this place for 7 plus years. The food has always been consistent and good. They have had the same staff for years and have always been nice to us. My go to dishes are the Mi Xao Ga and the Hu Tieu Trieu Chau. Both dishes are good and filling! It really depends on my mood. Today I tried something new and it was good! I go it Togo'd which was packed up very nicely. My brother got the Mi Xao Ga and I really appreciated their thoughtfulness of putting his dish in a separate tight bag just in case the sauce spilled out. He also enjoy his dish a lot and had no complaints. This location does have a parking lot but it is limited since it is shared with the neighboring businesses. I personally have not had issues with parking there during the week. This place has always been an easy go to for my family and I. I would recommend this place to people who are looking for a good bang for your buck Chinese meal.

Yelp
This is the third time and probably the last time I come here and here's why: The quality of food went down dramatically. I ordered Peking spareribs, salt pepper spareribs and siu mai, their siu mai were cold so I couldn't eat them. The spareribs were very disappointing, half of them are just fat and bone, not edible at all! Totally different from what I got last time (last time the spareribs were lots of meat with almost no fat & bone). I called them in advance and drove 15min, but when I got there, I still needed to wait another 20min for my food. It was around 5:40pm, not sure why I had to wait so long while there's no customer inside the restaurant & they weren't busy at all! The most unexpected thing was the cashier collected me $44.3 total but the total was actually $44.29. I know it's a just penny, but as a business, you don't round up to collect the customers more to save you a penny, I have never seen any business does this since it's a very bad practice. There aren't many Asian restaurants in this area so I was very happy that I found this place originally, but after today's experience, I won't waste my money here anymore.

Yelp
This place used to be a good go-to family restaurant, and it probably still is but my most recent experience really turned me off. The food is just about average. Most recently, I had the Roasted Duck Yellow Noodle Soup and the noodles were overcooked and too soggy. The roasted duck lacked flavor and had the microwaved reheated type of temperature -- nuke warm and still cold in the inside. The broth was decent but could have used more flavoring. Aside from the food, the restaurant is filthy. The table was sticky, there were spots of residue all over the walls, and the floors were disgusting. The bathroom? Forget it. It looked (and smelled) like it had not been cleaned for weeks. I think this restaurant needs to consider a renovation and a major deep cleaning. Otherwise, someone will get sick one of these days. P.S. even the iced water looked foggy and had an unusual taste.

Yelp
During our recent visit to San Jose, we were so glad to see that this restaurant was opened for dine-in. We were so overjoyed with the first dine-in experience while out of town and were undecided on what to order. The owner came over and suggested two of his house specialties. So, we ordered house egg noodle soup (had a bit of everything: shrimp, Cha Sui, fish ball, pig kidney, pig stomach, and rice fun; very tasty soup) and Trieu Chau vermicelli and egg noodle soup (had a fried shrimp on top of an egg, Cha Sui, pork, and two kinds of noodles; very tasty soup). Both choices were good. At the end, we made another order of Trieu Chau rice and egg noodle soup for takeout! All the staff in the restaurant wear masks and gloves. They close off some tables for social distancing. We felt comfortable in eating in this place. The price is on the pricey side.

Yelp
I give this place a one-star review because of the issue I have with them just a few days ago regarding the payment transaction. When I order two meals on Thursday of May 25th in the evening that the payment come out to be $40.47. The next day Friday, May 26th when I check my bank statement. I saw an unusual transaction charge me again for $84.89 with the same transcription name that already had a pending negative $40.47 on my bank statement. I try to be compassionable by confronting them for their mistake or error that they accidentally charged me on the second transaction. When I even show them my bank statement on my phone that the transaction was made by this restaurant. They keep giving me excuse after excuse, not willing to give me a refund for the $84.89 from the mistake they made on my bank account. The excuses were, this transcription isn't their transaction and it should be under Han Kee restaurant - my reply to them: then I will make it crystal clear. I will call my associate banker to help me get back the $84.89 and it going to be a fraud claim that you stated it isn't your transcription name under the transaction. Then it isn't my problem if you lose both transactions' money. After hearing that statement from my warning they reconsider by saying to let them check with their bank account and let me know after. I told them again, I have a negative money value on the transaction made by you at this restaurant. They try to make another excuse, if I have the receipt of the payment on the food. I told the restaurant personnel I have lost it somewhere. While told them again it doesn't make a difference if I have it or not. Just put it for example: if I do have the receipt, I only have the receipt on the payment of $40.47 while someone at your restaurant could make another secret transaction for $84.89 when I wasn't aware until I check my bank statement. They tried to give me another excuse for how can they made another transaction, and I told them maybe you still have my debit card on file on the machine. I don't know. I just know from my bank statement that this restaurant charges me a second transaction. When we have an agreement they let me know by Monday afternoon. If they try to lie to me again saying they didn't charge me for the transaction. I will be hecka piss off, and will not be compassionate toward them anymore. I will definitely file a fraud claim to get back my money for $84.89 and maybe the $40.47 that connects with the transaction also. Therefore, whoever eats at this restaurant or orders takeout food. Please be careful with your debit card and check your transaction carefully. I will never going to eat here again.

Yelp
Dishonest business. I ordered a sucking pig I have asked them to have the pig cut before picking it up.When I when to pick up the pig, it was all covered and the guy carried it to my car. I discovered it wasn't a sucking pig when I got home. They swapped it with old big pig. I have nicely organized it 3 rows on the tray. the meat was so tough. I was very disappointed and called them Of course they denied and reassured me that it's in fact a sucking pig. I had tasted the sucki pig before and know the diffdrench. I should have brought the whole tray back and confronted them. Very dishonest business. I'll never come back to that place.

Yelp
When someone asks, send me noooods? I'll send you pics of noodles. Jokes! Price: $9.50 for the roasted duck egg noodles. Tina's Travel and Tabloid - Hole in the wall mom and pop shop, bring cash money! Although, some transactions can be used with credit card. Above a limit amount. - Parking is tight, but there's some on the side and in the back. - The soup is really scrumptious, but some of the veggies weren't washed too well! Such a shame. Good flavor soup and duck is freshly chopped for you. - You cannot come before end of day and expect to get fresh good parts of the meat! :( - I come here for the roast duck, BBQ pork, french bread, etc. Good for parties and to-goes as well! - I support!

Yelp
Lobster in a spicy gravy sauce smothered on some fresh made in house is egg noodles! So bomb we ordered 2 orders! They sell the fresh egg noodles to-go as well! I just want to slurp up that sauce! This alone would be (5/5)! The other dishes weren't that great. We ordered a beef chow fun (2/5) which wasn't really flavored or seasoned at all and walnut shrimp which lacked a sweet sauce (3/5) and the walnuts were MIA too. I think we got 5 walnuts. Sadly I'll only go back for the lobster noodles.

Yelp
So on my way to work today I decided to stop by to have roasted duck noodles. Out come my order n as soon as I look down in my bowl there was a dead fly. So disappointed call the lady n show her n I just walk out. Can't believe they didn't even see it.

Yelp
Great food and great price. If you're craving for roast pork/ roast duck or sweet and sour pork, this is the place to go. They also serve other foods. I often order their salty fish fried rice and wonton soup. Great for hangover. =)

Yelp
The best Mi Vit Quay or roast duck noodle soup in town! The portions are huge, prices are reasonable, and it's a very typical looking Asian takeout shop. Service is blunt, but you're not going for the Michelin-Star experience. This is my family's go-to place for roast pork and roast duck, but I finally had the pleasure of slurping down a bowl of duck noodle soup. I also tried the flour cake with egg (banh bot chien trung) and it was alright. I'd stick to any of the huge noodle soup bowls!

Yelp
BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN ORDERING TOGO, I ordered 2 small fried rices, a roast duck and 1 hu tieu. They tried to charge me $283.89. I asked for a Manuel to see the price for those items. They said they don't have it. I asked for a receipt, they said their machine wasn't working. And tried to say if I don't pay up. They will call the cops. I told them I already did. Come to find out, they charged me 3 large party tray, 2 roster duck and 2 lobster chu fun. The cops asked them where did they came up with this items and its clear thats don't what you gave the customer. They told the cops that is was a mistake. I told the officer that they threatened to call the cops on me. If I don't pay.

Yelp
Sunday a.m. 10am. Not too busy, but busy enough. We walked in, seated right away. Upon walking in, you notice the hanging roasted ducks and pig. It was just glistening. I have to admit, it was practically calling my name. But I didn't get it. Lol. You know the place is good, when you walk in, don't get greeted, and the wait staff is rude to you. Lol. Ordered #23 egg noodle with roasted duck (supeeeeerb!) The broth was on hit, the noodles were good, not chewy. The bf really enjoyed it. The duck meat was flavorful and just really delicious. About 5-6 big pieces of duck meat. Oh, and the Vietnamese coffee is really strong. I ordered, I don't remember what # but it was egg noodle nam vang. The broth was good, flavorful, and not salty. Portion sizes were really good. I'm giving it a 4-stars because I didn't like the fact that all the meat was at the bottom of the bowl buried underneath the noodles. I didn't like the fact that they put bean sprouts in my noodle bowl automatically with the assumption of thinking every guests wants it. I personally hate bean sprouts, so when I realized there was a wad of it in my bowl, I wasn't impressed. I didn't appreciate the fact that the 2 pieces of shrimp was also there at the bottom of the bowl. But in the end, it's ok, lol. I will still come back, because by far it's one of the better noodle places. :)

Oanh N.

Yelp
I'd not recommend this place. The quality was bad, they used everything in the freezer months ago and cooked for you to eat. I couldn't finish my bowl of Mi hu tieu because everything was tasteless.

Yelp
I went to this place to order to go. I ordered BBQ pork. And 2 noodle to go. It turned out not that I expected.

Yelp
This place had been on my list of places to eat for a while. The menu is extensive and included some cool items like pork brain soup. Glad to know they had a mixture of Cantonese, Teochow, Hokkien, and Vietnamese dishes. They have thick, thin, and rounded egg noodles. They hand make the wontons right in the dining area so you know it is fresh. Th The waitress was able to speak in multiple languages and even offered hot soymilk with Chinese donuts. Duck was yummy.

Yelp
We ordered over $400 worth of food for a party, and the small trays they used for our food was super shallow compared to what they had advertised on their wall. I brought this to their attention but some old Chinese guy kept saying it's the same size (like.... c'mon, I'm not blind and I wasn't born yesterday). Also, we had scheduled to pick up our order at 11am but when we got there, it wasn't ready. Once they finished our tray orders, we had to drive to the backside of their restaurant to pick up the roasted pig we ordered from them as well. When we got to the back, the guy waiting for us said, "what took you guys soo long? I've been waiting here". (Ummmm.... ask your fucking co-workers and boss why we took soo long. You guys didn't have our orders ready at the time we told you to have it ready by!) First and last time I will ever come to this place. You guys can suck it!

Yelp
My family & I always get the #4 here! This mom&pop shop is literally in the hole in a corner, lol but that's when you know it's good. The Hu Tieu noodles always come in a large portion, so you definitely get your money's worth for food. I really enjoyed how simple the broth was, paired with all of the toppings. And it's not oily until you add chili oil!
google avatar

Amy N.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant to go to when I'm craving hu tieu trieu chau (rice stick noodle). Sometimes I get the wonton soup as well. I usually order the combination one and add a bunch of green peppers and satay sauce inside. I grew up eating here, so I find most of their dishes yummy to eat. If you're not a soul person, I would recommend getting the roasted pork or roasted duck to eat with rice or just alone. The chow fun and fried rice is also good here. I like this place better than TK Noodle.
google avatar

Yelp
Expensive. I was looking to buy some roast pork and chicken for the lunar new year. I bought 1/2 a roast duck, 1.4 lbs of roast pork and one whole salted boiled chicken. The total was $59. It's either very expensive or the cashier made an error Just ate the roast duck, and It was disappointing. I don't think I'll go back again. Next time I'll go to China Station BBQ on Tully and King.
google avatar

Quyen H.

Yelp
Probably my favorite place in town for salty fish fried rice. There's really no place that makes it the same way. They use jumbo shrimp in here and they're not shy about it either!! I love pairing this dish with wonton soup. These two dishes just goes so well together. And it's a lot of food so definitely enough to share with friends. You must get that dish here. Can't go wrong with it. I would also check out the bbq here too. They have it in the front and you can choose to have it cut and plated right there. This place is small but there's never been a wait time when I come by. Although parking is such a pain! It's a really small plaza. I'm not a fan of the services but I don't really know if it's just the way they talk in general. I minimize interaction as much as possible. Once I have my food then I'm all good!

Wynn V.

Yelp
The dim sum I got for take out was nasty to say the least because of the foul smell (like it had landed on the floor) it gave as soon as I consumed it. Stay away, or check thoroughly before buying!
google avatar

Angeline H.

Yelp
Located on the corner of the plaza, this place is truly a hidden gem. No one really knows about this place so I'm about to blow it up in Yelp! I come here for 1 thing and 1 thing only. That is.... THE ROASTED DUCK EGG NOODLE SOUP! When it's rainy outside, when I'm sick, or hungover, this noodle dish does the job and revives me. I sometimes ask for half wide rice noodle and half egg noodle when I'm feeling indecisive. The servers are older chinese/vietnamese guys and sometimes rush you to order right when you sit down but that's just the biz. Cheap and delicious. The noodle bowl comes with roasted duck, noodles, and bok choy. I also love to order a side of roasted pork belly. So crunchy and juicy. You go try now!
google avatar

Yelp
Don't go, I found maggots in my pork... seriously. And I probably ate them too cause of this shit place

Yelp
I remember coming here when I was a little girl. My parents would always order the soup and the combination plate of duck, pork, and BBQ pork. I was really craving duck a few weeks ago and told my mom I wanted duck, she took me to Han Kee. It totally slipped my mind that they had duck here. My mom and I ordered a plate of a whole duck and a small plate of their BBQ pork. My mom also ordered their noodles. FYI: They make their noodles there, they're homemade which makes it 10 times better. Okay, first off I want to talk about their amazing duck!!! I love duck it's ironic because i'm afraid to get fat, but if you feed me duck everyday I wouldn't mind. Omg, just typing this I want some duck right now. Well anyways, their duck is to die for! Even though I bite fat from time to time, get real it's duck it's fattening!!! Second, their BBQ pork was BOMB, chewy goodness not to soft not to hard. I love BBQ pork, but I love duck more. These two type of meat with plain rice, BOMB! Oh, i'm so asian, but oh well I love me some duck and BBQ pork. You should really come here to try their duck!!! Service is so so, but food is so good so I don't mind the bad service from time to time.

Yelp
This place is one of my childhood favorite restaurants. I have so many fond memories of this restaurant. The employees are always in a rush and literally will stand at your table the moment you sit down with the expectation that you already know what to order. The restaurant is not the cleanest, but is definitely cleaner than a lot of Asian places that you may come across in Chinatown. You should avoid the bathroom if you could. The parking lot is a nightmare too. BUT, this restaurant serves the best egg noodles in town. The food is authentic, delicious, and consistent. I always get either the traditional egg noodles, fried rice, or chow fun. All of which are the best that I've ever had. The egg noodles come either in broth or dry with broth on the side. I always get the broth on the side. It's SO good and surprisingly isn't loaded with MSG. The fried rice and chow fun have awesome flavor and isn't loaded with filler items (i.e. peas. yuck!). The prices have steadily increased over the years, but the food remains consistently good. This restaurant is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in San Jose, so I always come here when I'm visiting my parents in town!

Yelp
I love the roasted pork. Very tasty and flavorful. Not a big fan of the wonton noodles soup.

Yelp
Han Kee has a pricey menu transliterated also in Vietnamese. not sure if they are vietnamese eats or vietnamese translation of chinese eats . fyi, typical vietnamese entrees i.e. pho, bun, not on the menu. menu: chinese entrees, chinese roasties (deli), "dim sum"-mostly buns, baked items, not steamed ala siu mai, hargow..... eats: taro bun (2/1/5) -bun mushy, not fluffy, strange tasting ]-filling not pure taro, either faux or a mix with flour, starches. 2.5 stars take outs: -waiters just hanging out, no greeting, grabbed a menu myself to check out offerings -cashier more proactive, "owner" nioved quick to collect my $$ to keep line moving. -pricey eats, lackluster quality makes a return improbable. only return would be for the soups which have good reviews. -tables packed close to each other....

Yelp
This a a family owned restaurant that has been around since the 90s. A bit of a hole in the wall but the food is authentic. People come here for their roasted meats and egg noodle soups.

Yelp
It hurts to say but I used to love love love the hot and sour soup here and all the other dishes at this childhood gem hidden in east side. I would drive all the way here to pick up 2 orders of this stuff. It use to look reddish from the heat. It use to be tasty af, really amazing sour taste with that heat! They used to be really generous with the black fungus and meat in the soup. I'm so disappointed to say that now the prices have gone up for really sad portions. For one regular medium sized cylinder Togo container is now 14.99 as opposed to 8.99 before. The taste it now very mild and watery. The color is not even dark, it's a very light orange. Did the chef change or owners change ? I really have to learn how to make it myself because I got ripped off for a Togo container of water. :/

Yelp
Some of the best (if not the best) place for mi (egg noodles) in San Jose. It's not as dirt cheap as it used to be, but still cheap enough. I usually just get the house noodles or sometimes, the BBQ pork fried rice. It's good, but portion size can vary. Sometimes they give me so much that my roommate can make a meal out of the left overs, other times I barely get anything. Again, this isn't the cleanest place in the world! But then again, most Asian restaurants on the East Side aren't either! It's not health code violation status, but some people will find it dirty. As far as the Chinese boss lady goes, the best policy is just to stay out of her way and she'll stay out of yours. Hearing her yell is even worse then hearing my mom. haha
