Han Thueng Chiang Mai

"Occupying gable-roofed houses near Chiang Mai University, this place may lack a sign but locals have been flocking here for its delicious, competitively priced Northern Thai fare for over a decade. The rustic décor echoes the no-frills food with delicate flavours and textures. Their steamed beef slices with galangal dip are recommended; and for a delicious off-menu dish, order the seasonal special made from ingredients like wild mushrooms. Service is friendly." - Michelin Inspector

A Michelin Darling That Still Hits the Spot! Been here twice — last time was pre-COVID — and the place has leveled up. More tables now, indoors and out, but still keeps that local vibes. Plates are under THB100 (~US$3) and perfect for 1–2 people. Order to share so you can taste more — some dishes are seasonal. Come before lunch or dinner rush, or you’ll be bonding with the queue. Locals love this spot just as much as tourists do. Honestly, lots of local restaurants here in Chiangmai. You can hop around and try but for here Michelin-guided for a reason — affordable, delicious, and worth the wait.

If you’re looking for authentic northern Thai food and you want the real thing, don’t hesitate, come here. The flavors are bold and delicious, the food is not watered down for a tourist palate. We loved everything we ordered. We came here on our first night in town, then we went to two other popular places the next two nights. The other restaurants food was bland in comparison and they were full of foreigners, so we came back here on our last night. The clientele is almost all local Thai folks, which made for a much better experience I think. They have a couple of large air conditioned rooms, but we chose to sit at the outside tables on lovely cool evenings. Highly recommended, this will be our first stop the next time we are in Chiang Mai.

Delicious food, but major communication issues (staff have limited English) + wrong dishes served. Tried saying "takeaway plz" for leftovers, got misunderstood as "throw away"—food was disposed of. Then conflicting info: one staff offered free compensation, another asked for payment. Double-check all requests!

The food was good and flavorful. However, I didn’t enjoy the fried beef — it was a bit tough and hard to chew. Other than that, everything else was nice and worth trying

Ordered the platter dish to get an all-rounder taste of Northern Thai food. Food was great, Quite ample parking space provided. Air conditioning was good too

An authentic local Chiangmai dishes, it’s a true flavor with full herb ingredient. Love a variety menu you can choose to try. Our table is in a triangle shape thatch-roof.

It's a northern Thai food. My husband and I just arrived in Chiang Mai and saw the reviews so we decided to try it. My husband loves it, especially the blood rice. And I saw something else. I highly recommend it. The price is very cheap.
