The Best Korean Restaurants in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"While this Bloomington grocery store doesn’t offer hot food, a small prepared foods section in the refrigerated aisle contains a rainbow of banchan in neatly sealed plastic clamshells, perfect for complementing meals at home. On Fridays and Sundays, regulars know to call ahead and reserve a few orders of freshly made vegetarian kimbap, available for pickup or purchase next to the register, where the store also stocks a range of fresh pastries and buns from Dokil, a Korean bakery based in Chicago." - Julie Yu

Google
Amazing asian grocery store. You will find a wide range of Korean snacks, ingredients, noodles and much more here. The items and products were all easy to reach and find. Prices are good. The frozen section has a lot of amazing selections to choose from. From frozen noodles to wontons to frozen seafood, the selection is wide but limited to the stores size but you will find what you need to make popular dishes. Parking is extremely limited and you may need to park at other spots and walk. The store is very easy to navigate and you won't get lost as it is a smaller grocery store. Would highly recommend coming here to get your ingredients to make your favorite Korean dish.

Google
My go to place for my favorite kimchi in Minneapolis. No one else sells it here!

Ying W.

Google
I used to come here but won't anymore because I have received counterfeit bills from this store on 2 occasions. Check your money to ensure it is real. The store itself is small, not much variety and food is often not fresh and they sell expired food at the front in grocery carts.

Google
Cozy and semi organized grocery store with narrow isles. Recently remodeled by the cashier area. thinly sliced pork, beef, squids, shrimp, mackerels, beef bones for soup and other frozen goods. Napa cabbage, yam and daikon were seen regularly. Decent selection of kimchi, pickle radishes. kitchen items chopsticks, spoons, bowls and pot. Limited bakery. Decent selection of Korean style potstickers /rice/noodles/ sauce selections and Raman. Few selections of Japanese sauce/items.

Google
I love this oriental market. It's a great place to find Korean ingredients, spices, snack, foods, beverage, and other things. The owner and staff are friendly, nice and helpful. They have great customer service.

Google
Great customer service! You can shopping and listen to nice music. You can find authentic food here such as kimchi, cold wheat noodles or banana milk. The owner was so nice by putting my kimchi jar in plastic bag. Many great combinations for food and drinks.

Google
Perfect place to find korean and japanese specific ingredients. Friendly people and great food.

Google
It's a cute little place. They don't have a very large selection of much of anything BUT what they do have is GREAT! Their Kimchi selection however is quite wonderful!! The woman working the register was very nice and helpful. I purchased black rice for the first time knowing nothing except the health benefits. I AM SO SUPER glad she was able to tell me to mix it with white rice and the ratio. I definitely would have screwed it up!!

Yelp
Parking can be a bit of a challenge as it shares a parking lot with other stores in the strip mall. For a small store, they sure have a lot inside! The cashier was helpful and was able to point to us where the things were that we needed (like the Asian wash cloth, this is a must when traveling). I was super delighted to see that they had the HBAF flavored almonds. It's all the rage right now in California and whenever I go to the grocery stores there, they are SOLD OUT so imagine when I saw all the different flavors that were in stock. Yes, I grabbed just about one of each flavor. I didn't have enough time to check out the rest of the store but for sure I will next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Hana Market is a gem in Bloomington, Minnesota! A lot of Korean staples and a lot of kimchi. It's a small but a good place to go for Korean supplies. Plus on Fridays and Sundays, they have freshly made kimbop! Make sure you either reserve a couple or come in around 11:30-1200 on these days because they sell out fast. All vegetarian. Great place!

Jonas K.

Yelp
Not many Korean grocery store around in Minnesota but this one stocks a lot of variety in a small location. A little pricey but supply and demand.

Yelp
Excellent selection of products. Cucumber kim chee, my favorite! Fresh produce. Friendly service. New owners. Please stop by and fill up a basket.

Yelp
Small sized Asian market store in a strip mall, but BIG on service. I love their selections of Korean foods (especially the frozen items I can't find at the larger Asian markets). They offer NON-MSG Kimchi in various sizes (including a 16 oz jar!) at reasonable prices. I spent what I saved on the other items by buying the amazing Orion Turtle Chips ($5.19 for a 5.65 oz bag) but I could not RESIST 'em! Stop by and see what treasures you can find at this shop, and if you don't see it-be sure to ask (if you've never had a Korean ice cream melon bar-you have to try that too!)

Karl D.

Yelp
Nice selection of various asian food at a reasonable price. Very friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend going here often!

Margret T.

Yelp
My family love this place. We've been to other Asian stores and this is by far the best Asian market. Its super clean and the staff is so friendly. Lots of variety and selections to choose from. The frozen mandu's, pork buns, rice cakes and mochis are always my favorite and of course the big bags of rice.
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
I always go here for my Korean groceries! The owners are always so welcoming and nice. Everything is kept super clean. However, I would say the average Asian food product here is generally more expensive than say a Chinese/Vietnamese/Asian grocery store. You can find all kinds of yummy Korean frozen foods and desserts here to fill your cravings of Korean food!

Yelp
You can find Japanese Snacks you like the place is great too This is where I usually get the Japanese KitKats from :)

Yelp
This is the closest Korean grocery store relative to my home and been going here for years. I primarily go there to get my kimchee fix and the radishes in the same kind of glass containers. I like their bean sprouts for pho and the big bags are all alive and not rotting.

Yelp
Easy in easy out is about the sum of it for this smaller Asian Market on Old Shakopee Rd. The selection is mostly Korean and Japanese but there is a cooler with various noodle types and of course that's much better than dried Ramin from the Superette. The owner is warm and friendly and will help you find what you need and even how it's usually prepared and what goes as an option. Don't be fooled by the size of the store this one is efficiently packed with more than you would think once you start browsing. It's not United Noodles but has it's own uniqueness.

Yelp
There aren't many Korean markets in Minnesota and Hana Asian Market is probably the only decent option here unfortunately! Pros: - They have all the Korean staples (such as kimchi, Korean ramen, side dishes, frozen Korean foods) - Friendly owner and staff Cons: - They don't have a huge selection and variety. - Small produce section - Prices are higher than average (in comparison to H-Mart or Assi Plaza in Chicago)

Yelp
A wonderful Korean market. Super friendly staff, and the store has everything one would need to make Korean food.
google avatar

Harina B.

Yelp
Loving the freshness of their vegetables & seafood items. The cleanest oriental grocery store I can find. Their staff always helped me carry heavy bottles of sushi vinegars & sake until the covid restriction somes.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
Wonderful, helpful staff! Great, safe location with a good selection of Japanese, Chinese, Korean food and more.
google avatar

Yelp
Place is on point. Korean grocery store with plenty of diverse options. My favorite place in twin cities.

Yelp
We know this place as the Hana Market or the Oriental Market. We like it because it is the closest for us to find extra firm tofu at a good price. We like the big pack of buckwheat soba noodles and the various rice mixes they have. Store specializes in Korean and Japanese products and snacks. They are introducing some more organic options. For a small shop they have a surprising variety and pretty reasonable prices. Added another star as this has become our go to place for what we need and the helpful staff.

Yelp
Hana Asian Market can be easy to miss if you're just driving along E Old Shakopee Rd. The outside is labeled "Oriental Market" in large yellow letters above the store but says "Hana Market" on the door, which may also cause confusion. The store is small but they carry almost every Korean and Japanese ingredient you'll need/want! Prices are decent, not overly expensive. It's close to the Mall of America so it's a very convenient location! The owners and staff are super friendly and are always willing to help you find whatever you need if you can't on your own.

Yelp
This is the best place to shop for Korean ingredients!! I like it better than Dragon Star, Sun Foods, Kim's, and stores that carry a mix of Asian countries. It's always clean and the staff are very friendly. They have everything you need to make traditional and staple Korean dishes, great produce, and some new school Korean too. Sometimes they have duk/rice cakes that are folled with cheese, muvh easier than makinh your own! They also carry "Fire Noodle Challenge" in a cup! This is the perfect portion for the hottest instant ramen. ***Also, the owners and staff are very friendly to Korean adoptees like myself. Thank you so much

Yelp
I've always gone here! I can't say the prices are always better, but I can say they're affordable (to me). On top of that, this place ALWAYS gives me great customer service. There were a few products they didn't carry, but when I asked, I saw them have it the next month or so!! I've even had them offer to help me take my groceries out! They also have DELICIOUS banchan! Super fresh and easy to pick up and eat on the go. Again, I can't stress how great the staff is here. You really wouldn't ever regret spending a penny here. I've never had a bad experience here.

Dennis H.

Yelp
I am very happy with Hana Market. Very happy and helpful lady. I go there for Kimchi, Gochujang, various things from the freezer. I also grab something that I have no idea what it is and try something new.
google avatar

Yelp
What an outstanding market! My family walked in knowing no Korean, and with only a love of the food and curiosity. We were trying to make Korean BBQ at home and Jo (Shu) was extremely helpful and kind to help us find all the ingredients we needed! We will definitely be back and hope to see her happy face again soon! Thank you!

Yelp
I love this place!! Owners family are really kind, and variously choice of Korean Food!!!
google avatar

Mia H.

Yelp
Albeit small, the selection at this market is vast and typically covers all the bases when I'm looking to "save some money" and make my Korean food at home. (Their Korean snack selection kills me, all my childhood favorites, I always spend 75+) I've only had positive interaction with the staff, and they are all very friendly to my children. So happy to have found this place!

Yelp
No credit card transactions under $10? Either take credit cards or don't. It isn't 1995. It is incredibly annoying to make a trip to the store and then find out they have this stupid policy.

Hsiao-Ting W.

Yelp
I was charged 415 on my credit card when the bill was 41.5$ per my receipt. Not sure how this happens but please be aware.

Yelp
Small neat Korean and Japanese groceries. Have good Korean stuff and decent price at its scale. Close to Moa so nice to swing by if needed.
google avatar

Katrina O.

Yelp
Small korean market with most of the staples for korean food. Lots of freezer items. Very minuscule fresh produce though. Perfect for everything but fresh produce. They do sell sliced frozen meats and had fresh kimbap for sell. The kimbap was okay - not the best I've had but not horrible. They are usually opened until 7 PM most days.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm relieved that we've found Hana. It's got all the basics for Korean and Japanese recipes. I do have to say that the prices are a bit higher than you can find in the cities, but it's so close I love the convenience. So, you'll probably make up the difference by saving on gas. The couple who own the place are very friendly, and the husband is especially helpful. When we last bought a box of kalbi meat from Hana, the husband told us to thaw the meat and soak it in water to drain out the blood before we marinated it. It was a great tip. I so appreciate it when I get good tips.

Yelp
korean market, used to have a substantial Japanese products too. No longer. New ownership = less J foods and more K foods. Great if you want Korean products. Not so great if you want Japanese. If you don't speak korean, be wary of shopping here as well, communication will be difficult so if you have questions etc. just don't say you weren't warned! ;) All in all, decent place to get Korean products. I rate it low though, because it is a huge step back from what it used to be. HUGE step back.

Yelp
Best Asian market in the area! From the outside, it may look small, but they have everything that you need. The items are very fresh and the store is very clean. Every time I visit, I'm greeted with a friendly face at the counter. The price is very comparable to the other markets in the area, but the quality is above and beyond. I know that they truly care about their customers.
google avatar

Kathy C.

Yelp
I love this market! It's my go-to place for Korean groceries since I live in the south suburbs. The owners always help me find what I need and offer advice on how to make the food. This place is great since I miss my mother's Korean cooking. AWESOME kimbop on Fridays and Saturdays.
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
I love this market. I'm not quite a regular customer, but it is my favorite Asian market in the area. They don't have a tremendous selection, but they do have a lot of staples and main ingredients for Korean cooking. The dry good section is quite good. They have most of the different bean pastes you could need. This is a great stop for any cooking adventure embarked on with the help of Maangchi. The selection of produce is not very wide, but for the size of the store it is decent. I don't imagine the grocery could support a wider selection of produce. They carry Korean sweet potatoes and Korean radish as well as napa cabbage and a variety of other produce that I basically never purchase. Selection changes with the seasons, and it is usually fresh. They have a variety of Korean and Japanese snacks and drinks, and some instant versions of popular dishes like jajangmyeon. Despite what other reviewers said, there is usually at least one person in the store that can communicate easily in English. If you try to learn a few words of Korean (know the Korean name of the ingredient or write it down) the people working there can be very helpful, and they are always friendly.

Yelp
The owners are super nice and friendly all the times!!! I always get great services from them!! If you find something you want that they don't have, you can just tell them so they will try to order some of them by next time!! She also can speak Japanese pretty good so if you want to ask in Japanese you can;)
google avatar

Yelp
I love going here when I can esp on Fridays & Saturday when they have fresh kimbap! I love the owners as they are always willing to help me cook & learn new things as well as giving me samples of different things when they can. I've just learned to make the sweet rice cake, usually served during birthdays, with her help as I bought a steamer from them. So easy & so good too! I also love their kalbi beef as the quality is so much better but yes a bit pricier. They do have an assortment of bakery they ship in & OMG there is a one cream filled buns, looks like Hawaiian King's rolls package, that are to die for! I am able to buy almost anything Korean related which I love, including the sweet potatoes, Korean concord grapes, melons, etc.

Yelp
Wow, I find the negative reviews weird. This is a Korean grocery store! Being a Korean who had been adopted by a Norwegian and German I love trying to cook and eat like a Korean. This store is always clean, the employees and owners have always been nice giving yogurt drinks to my kids and even sharing homemade walnut cake. They've even helped carry out my groceries when I was hurt and they weren't busy. I love the MSG Free kimchee it's the best I've ever found in Mn. Also awesome sushi grade tuna in the freezer. They were the first store to carry the puffed corn/rice or wheat Korean puffed crackers years before Byerlys made them cool.. and they cost less(no crazy flavors though). In the fall they carry wonderful perfectly ripe Concord grapes (and pleeeease don't complain about fruit flies, the grapes are organic just soak the grapes in water.. If they used pesticides no soaking could save you. If you don't like it don't buy! More for us! ;p) Yes, It is more expensive then the Korean Markets in Fridley or Hilltop but I live in the South metro so it is handier for me when I'm in a rush. Yes they don't speak English fluently but if you don't speak Korean fluently like me.... just be nice, smile a lot and try,"kahm-sa-ham-nee-da". it goes along way!
google avatar

Tsiskay L.

Yelp
Its ok. Has basic staples. Only went because I was in the area, and it has great reviews. If it was the only asian store near me i would totally come here.
google avatar

Nhi V.

Yelp
Yay, a Korean-Japanese market that's not far from my home! Roughly a ten minute commute versus going all the way up to United Noodle in Minneapolis! The market is pretty small and they have great but limited selections. The prices vary on the items, so I feel there are better deals at the larger Asian markets. I came for plain frozen Udon Noodles and they had them! It was a very nice brand that came in a 4 pack! At United Noodles it would have been double the cost. So I was very pleased the noodles were super cheap! Downer on the market would be that there is a $10.00 minimum if you are to use a credit/debit card.
google avatar

Thomas K.

Yelp
Its always nice to find a small grocery store that has a pretty good selection of various Asian (mostly Korean and Japanese) products. From various different flours such as mung bean, rice, etc. A nice selection of vinegars from rice wine, apple and pomegranate. I even managed to find an entire side of sushi grade Hamachi in their freezer! Check it out, its a great find.

Sophia K.

Yelp
I go this market twice a month. Owners are very friendly and foods are fresh. They have all kinds of Asian food, especially Korean.
google avatar

Crystal Y.

Yelp
Nice and clean place. The owner was very nice and greeted us when we walked in! I found just what I needed and the lady gave me a tip on how to cook the noodles I got!
google avatar

Gina W.

Yelp
I love this store! The owners are super friendly and they have awesome snack and ramen section! I love the frozen section because they have the ingredients that my sister wants! It's close and it's convenient. For me, i don't care about the price range really, as long as its fresh, good quality and nicely packaged!
google avatar

Peter H.

Yelp
The owners are very friendly and helpful. Many different kinds of Asian foods. Great location in the south.
google avatar

Adrian V.

Yelp
The place is pretty small, but they had the curry I was looking for. I'd say it's a pretty solid place. The woman who rang me up was really nice.

Brent J.

Yelp
The manager made my Korean wife and me feel very awkward. An employee gave our son a toy but the manager asked us to pay for it. I would recommend Seoul Foods in Fridley or Kim's Market in St Paul instead.
