The 38 Best Restaurants in Phoenix | Eater Phoenix

"Lori Hashimoto’s family-style Japanese restaurant covers a lot of ground: sushi, katsu, tempura, noodles, nabe, and other deftly prepared classics. The restaurant is famous for its fried oysters, grilled squid, hamachi kama, and sake-steamed seabass, as well as Hashimoto’s signature oyster shooter — uni and a quail egg — downed in one go. This former BYOB now offers Japanese beer and sake, including a shochu-fortified house sake crafted by Hiroko Yokohama, one of a growing number of woman sake masters in Japan. Best for: Traditional sushi and Japanese comfort dishes with standout fish and a no-fuss, homey feel." - McConnell Quinn

Best Sushi Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Everybody loves Hana, a central Phoenix stalwart run by sushi chef Lori Hashimoto and her family for over a decade. All the classic sashimi and sushi rolls are here, as well as specialties such as ankimo sliders (marinated monkfish liver set on a lemon slice and topped with sunny side up quail egg, daikon, green onion, and nori) and the Hana Pride (yellowtail, tuna, salmon, krab, albacore, white fish, and pickled burdock root, wrapped in fresh cucumber and dusted with togarashi). This former BYOB now offers Japanese beer and interesting sakes." - Nikki Buchanan

So interesting experience. Atmosphere was really nice, the sushi was tasty. Problem was the rolls are very small and the rice was quite loose. Also the amount of fish was REALLY small. The sashimi was the thinnest cheapest I have EVER had. So in short be prepared to spend 40% more $$ on your meal of sushi!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could give more than five stars, I would. Hana Japanese Eatery is hands down my favorite sushi spot—not just in Phoenix, but in all of Arizona. From the moment you walk in, you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem in Tokyo, tucked right into the heart of central Phoenix. The vibe is warm, welcoming, and authentically local—a neighborhood spot that feels both elevated and grounded. The quality of the fish is absolutely off the charts—the kind of freshness and melt-in-your-mouth perfection you usually only find oceanside. Every bite is crafted with precision and respect for the art of sushi. The presentation? Impeccable. The flavors? Unforgettable. But it’s not just the food—the service is out of this world. The staff treats you like family. They’re attentive without being overbearing and genuinely care about your experience. It’s rare to find a place where hospitality, atmosphere, and culinary excellence all align so perfectly. If you haven’t been, go. If you’ve been, you already know. Hana is the real deal.

Google
Here’s a little trick to see if a place is authentic Japanese. If they offer one or all of these three dishes: - Chawanmushi - Chirashi - Yamakake If they offer none of these, unlikely to be authentic If they offer one of these, good chance they are. Hana is fairly authentic Japanese and that’s rare indeed. Recommend the Bento and most everything else. They also offer Natto off-menu, as well as Chirashi. Hat’s off to Lynn and crew.

Google
I dont eat seafood (preference not allergy) so struggle to find options at Japanese restaurants but Hana has a variety of safe options!!! Big sake selection in my opinion and excellent authentic Japanese cuisine. If you have been to Japan like I have, you will be pleased with the cuisine at Hana.

Google
We arrived right when the restaurant opened and we were treated with immense hospitality! Everything came out quickly and the food was prepared well. I would have to recommend the scallop special to anyone going here; it was delicious!

Google
Our group dined at Hana last week, and unfortunately, all of us ended up getting sick. We experienced abdominal pain and diarrhea, which we believe was the result of food poisoning from the meal we were served. When we reached out to the owner, she showed no empathy or concern. She claimed that no one else who ordered the same sushi rolls reported feeling sick that evening. Interestingly, our reservation was under a different name than the one used in the follow-up email, which suggests she didn’t take the time to properly investigate our complaint. During the dinner, we also raised concerns about one of the sushi rolls falling apart. Both the server and the owner told us to eat it with a fork. Sushi should not fall apart, and it certainly shouldn’t have to be eaten with a fork. I will never return. It’s been a week, and only two out of the three of us are finally starting to feel better.

Enjoyed this authentic Japanese restaurant on a whim! The service was so great and everyone extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurant is casual and can be a good spot for a casual date night, meal in, or friend catch up. The food was really good and great quality! The Hana Bento Box blew away my expectations - the sashimi melted in your mouth and tasted fresh. The ramen was also good and noodles had a nice chew and broth had good umami flavor. The Sea Bass Sakamushi was good, but only came with 5 pieces (not advertised on menu about pieces) for $25 - so pricey for the quantity.

Google
Absolutely LOVE this place. Ate sushi for the very first time and now I’m addicted. The fish is very fresh and reasonably priced (in my opinion). The service is great and the presentation of all the dishes is beautiful. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
This is our go to sushi neighborhood spot. Always pleasant service. Consistent quality of food. And variety of offerings. My favorite is the bento box (must be shared!) and the steak with scallops were excellent.

Yelp
I got dinner with a couple friends at Hana on Sunday, and it was a first rate experience. The service was exceptional, and what motivated me to write this review. The food was solid: the vegetable tempura & curry udon were personal highlights for me. I also really appreciated that the dining room here is more intimate and quiet, allowing our group to quickly recenter in between stops on our bar hopping adventure. The restaurant was recommended by a Phoenix native we met earlier that evening, and he did not lead us astray!

Yelp
Small Intimate bustling spirited and Welcoming. The lights are dim lit but professional enough for you to never complain and enjoy the vibe. I walked in and was greeted promptly. Everybody is respectful and Welcoming. there is a lot of diversity amongst the bussers.. very very awesome I came for the sushi.. yummy I ordered Toro, yellowTail , Albacore and Tuna in Niri Format.. they were excellent!! I went back for more I ordered sashimi in albacore and Some Makerel.. the lady was so nice who served me she asked me if I had tried any miso soup and she offered me some.. I accepted and it was delicious It's close to my house so I'll see these folks more often Hana Does it very Uniquely that does not take away from all other sushi masters all over Uptown and Midtown

Yelp
The chawanmushi took me back to my childhood when my mother used to take me to her favorite Japanese restaurant and always ordered this dish for me. This savory steamed egg custard showcases the artistry of Japanese cuisine with its subtle flavors and silky texture. The first thing that strikes you is the flawless consistency. The custard is velvety-smooth and melts in your mouth, making each spoonful a delight. The custard's base, made from a blend of dashi (a savory broth), eggs, and soy sauce, provides a gentle umami undertone that's complemented by the ingredients suspended within. The toro sashimi has a buttery and melt-in-your-mouth quality. It's incredibly tender and practically dissolves on your palate, offering a sensation that's akin to a culinary caress. This decadent texture is a result of the high fat content in the belly portion of the tuna, which is well-marbled and exceptionally rich. The rest of the dishes I ordered are Shiro Maguro sashimi and Tako Yaki, both were pretty on par with good quality as well.

Yelp
Such good sushi! Highly recommend the hana pride roll. So fresh with the cucumber wrap. Also really enjoyed the sauces on each roll. Service was great and has a nice relaxed feel inside

Yelp
After a long day in Sedona, we found this incredible Japanese restaurant in Phoenix. Not sure what the negative reviews are talking about but we thought the food was incredible. The freshness and quality of the fish was outstanding. The salmon and toro were so yummy. The Unagi was perfectly done. The tempura was incredible. The shrimp tempura was amazing and the vegetable tempura was also spot on. The batter was so light and airy to drip it in their tempura sauce was awesome. Tough to find incredible tempura nowadays. We also ordered excellent udon and steak but were too hungry and excited about this place that we forgot to take pictures. This is excellent all around Japanese restaurant in our opinion because they have both excellent sushi and cook food. Not everyone is a huge sushi fan but they could also choose excellent cooked Japanese food also. It was a perfect ending to a long day !!

Yelp
This is the best ramen I've had in Phoenix. We ordered appetizers, sushi, and ramen. All of it was delicious and fresh. The service was phenomenal and even on a busy Friday night our food arrived very quickly. You could hear the staff working together to get orders out. The whole vibe was very wholesome and heart warming. My husband I liked everything about this place food, service, music, ambiance, etc.

Christine M.

Yelp
I'm not sure how this place could get more than one star, I really don't see how it's possible. To start, the food is disgusting. Truly it does not look edible. When we got our food, it looked so disgusting we physically could not eat it. It was like slop on a plate. However, worst part was the service. Besides the terrible food, I couldn't believe how rude the waitress was. She gave me the wrong food, then swore it's what we ordered (it wasn't). Then she said she was still going to charge us for it. Who does that?? Unreal! Then when we got the bill, she had double charged us for everything. We had to fight her to reverse it. Honestly I feel like there's no way anyone could have a decent meal here. Horrible!
google avatar

Yelp
This might satisfy you if you've never ventured out of Peoria. For the rest of you, this will be highly disappointing. I got the shrimp tempura and the caterpillar roll. Both were mainly rice and had minuscule amounts of other ingredients. It did not satisfy in the least bit. I also shared agadashi tofu and the edamame with my friend. They were fine. The tofu was not as fried as other restaurants make it out to be. But with regards to the sushi, I have major buyer's remorse. I just think it was garbage and overpriced for the low quality that you got. Our waitress was very nice, though, so that's why I'm giving two stars instead of one.

Yelp
Stopped by here for dinner the other night after the Tanabata event hosted at the Japanese Friendship Garden since we had Japanese on the mind. My friend and I haven't been here in ages for really no specific reason so I am glad we thought of Hana. The service is as friendly and prompt as we'd remember. Order the squid appetizer (they use some sort of potato batter I think??) that is probably one of our favorite dishes here. Tried their baked salmon hand roll which was on what appeared to be a seasonal menu and loved it. Flavorful and just the right amount of sauce to provide a nice umami flavor. I ordered their takoyaki to go for later that night because I had plans to stay up late. Probably the best takoyaki in the central Phoenix area. The few other places that even offer takoyaki on the menu do not do the dish justice (they do not add onions, bonito flakes, and the other various toppings typically served with it). Now that Hana is back on my radar, I will try to come frequent them most often, especially to try some of their larger dinner items.

Yelp
Yeah. I just can't help myself, can I? So this one is actually for a dinner I had way back in September (that I never got around to reviewing), but I still felt obligated to write this post regardless just to PSA people away from this place. That being said, even though Eater has always been the IGN of gastronomy, whoever it was that recommended this place in their sushi listings still needs to be fired (I hope they are already). So you could already guess that everything is tasteless, but let's go further than that. Let's look at the tamago. The tamagoyaki is supposed to be the true display of skill of any sushi chef (everyone who watched Jiro's would know), taking many more years to master after having gotten quite familiar with the fishes. The technique is quite complex and the timing has to be exact. There is a reason the most expensive omakase provider in all of Chicago prides himself on his special version of the tamago. So if this display of skill turns out like a very overcooked fried egg with ample brown spots on barely-held-together rice, we've got a problem. It's not even a good egg either. I-is this sh*t from Walmart?! Oh gosh... And the Great Value-ness doesn't stop there, either. Narutomaki (which they contentiously call "Hana Pride" despite having the peel uncut)? Bad. Gyudon nabe? Sloppiest goop I've ever had and not even that much beef. All the nigiris? Bad. Rice? Bad. That accursed seaweed salad that they charge $7 for? BAD!!! (Seriously, just get a seaweed salad from Kroger and you'll thank yourself.) Do I sound pissed off? Yes. After spending $120 for a waste of cucumbers, I do have a right to be. It should tell you something when every staff member aside from the owners looks like they're being held at gunpoint, slaving away at a sweatshop in Shenzhen serving FAAGDL【sushi】. TL;DR Note to self: Sushi in Phoenix is a bad idea (except Across the Pond...). Eater is a bad idea. Both of those combined is a VERY bad idea.

Yelp
Simply incredible!! Peg and I have always marveled at Chef Lori's creations and attention to quality and detail. The best!!!

Yelp
Great japanese cuisine, excellent atmosphere, and customer service at its best. Love the gyudon with noodles and the sashimi & sushi is superb

Azinde P.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was fantastic! Best of all, it's so much more convenient than making the 45-minute drive down to Mesa. For three people, the bill (including tip!) was under $80--plus, we left feeling full and even had a bag of tasty leftovers to enjoy later!
google avatar

Hugh N.

Yelp
It's been sometimes since I have back here (reason unknown!) I got an invite from friends we are frequently customers here -- so I was back. It was as good as always have been. The quality of the food is also the BEST--sushi / sashimi / noodles / squid / seaweed, etc. It is still the best sushi spot in Phoenix [ & Arizona ]. It still renders an cozy & authentic feel with the chef & crew are visual -- very awesome & homey feeling. Staff is always nice and friendly with smiles & willing to assist. For me, it's so good to back & enjoying such great spot with good company. Thank you Hana's team !

Yelp
We had a pleasant dinner on Sat Sept 10th. Upon our arrival, customers were being seated. There were only a few tables left 10 mins after opening. I can't say much besides what has been written prior regarding their fresh, authentic dishes. To drink I picked the chilled Blue Hue 3 oz sake. Smooth, a tad dry and delicious! I really enjoyed it cold and staying cool due to being served in a chilled shooter glass. The tempura with light and crisp batter was very good. I love the shisho leaf. The delicate green takes on a different flavor when prepared tempura style. My favorite chawan mushi was fair tasting but small in size for $16. On the way home, I was disappointed in reading Mike O's review on Yelp saying he paid $12 for the exact item just seven days prior. Oh well, this timing is the story of my life. Ha ha! I'd dine again here when on this side of Phoenix.
google avatar

Bert S.

Yelp
We've been going to Hana since the day it opened. Whenever we've had dinner at other Sushi restaurants we always say, why didn't we go to Hana? The food is top notch and the owners and staff are helpful and friendly.
google avatar

Carissa C.

Yelp
A cute little restaurant with a shared parking lot, but easy to find parking ! There's a lot of food to select from and the servers are really nice. The food itself was alright - the butter katsu was wayyyy too buttery and made it heavy. The rest of the food was okay - I'd come back to try something else since the tempura was pretty good ! Honestly the Godzilla bathroom was pretty cool to see how they have so much collected artwork.
google avatar

Christina J.

Yelp
The chef cut me two slices of salmon sashimi to see which side I liked better.... That says everything about the service we received when we discovered this little sushi gem. The place needs better lighting and a little paint on the walls but this does not mean the service and the food were not some of the best I've had.

Z S.

Yelp
I am a sushi aficionado. I have had sushi with kings (not really), presidents (definitely not), and titans of industry (I wish). But I've had a lot of sushi, all over the world, in restaurants with Michelin stars, with stars from other famous tire production companies, and with just really good sushi. So believe me when I say: Hana is incredible. Seriously, I don't understand how they have SUCH consistent, EXCELLENT sushi, visit after visit. I'm here so often, my wife is threatening to take control of our bank account. Every time, BAM, excellent uni, awesome toro, amazing fish all around. Their uni is as good as uni I had when living in Santa Barbara (which is where some crazy amount of the world's uni comes from!), their toro rivals toro I've had in Michelin-star places in Japan (not Jiro; I'm not that baller), and guess what? They're not JUST a sushi place! Half the time, we also order Gyu Don and literally roll out of the restaurant before we explode. Their appetizers are so imaginative and tasty (hello Mochi Shigure, Nasu Misoyaki, and their amazing take on Dynamite!) and their drinks knock it out of the park. Basically, incredible place all around. This is EASILY the best hidden gem in the valley. Why are you still reading this review? Go eat at Hana!

Yelp
I found my go-to Japanese restaurant! I have been searching for proper gyoza and katsudon for some time now in Phoenix and I'm happy to say I've found it! I myself have been to Japan to visit my Dad who lived there for years, and their menu items brought me back to the streets of Tokyo walking around eating amazing food. (Don't walk around eating food in Tokyo) Their gyozas were fresh and pan fried, as they should be ( deep frying gyozas is a sin ). The tonkatsu was just like back in Japan, fresh, hot and amazing. We will definitely be back for more delicious food and great service!
google avatar

Allison S.

Yelp
Hana is always in our regular restaurant rotation. The food is consistently good and the service is always friendly and welcoming. Our go-to dishes are the tako yaki, tempura, nasu misoyaki, hamachi kama, or whichever special or sushi appeals to us at the moment. At the moment I'm obsessed with the nasu misoyaki and the tuna misoyaki. So. Good. Try it when you have a chance!
google avatar

Yelp
Turned 72 today and wanted to go out somewhere nice, and wanted someplace that something other than steak. We had been to Hana a while ago and loved it. Don't know why we haven't been back. But my wife thought of it and I got excited and so we went. So glad we did. We are greeted with a friendly welcome. Now you can't make a reservation, but at our age we eat fairly early. We got there around 6:00 on a Thursday . No problem getting a seat. They have a dish of Yellowtail Collar, which is very limited. But today they had one, SCORE!! Delicious. Tempura Figs, Yum. We had more, and I have to say Yum Yum Yum. Everything is presented with class. They time each thing to come after you've finished what you are currently eating. I do have to caution that this is not a very big place, so if you go on the weekend peak hours you probably will have a wait. There is outside seating, but in this heat, no thank you. I will definitely make sure we get back soon. Oh, and yes they have Sushi, and other Japanese things, so if you want a hit of great Sushi, Ramon, Sashimi, etc. yes they have that as well, fresh, and beautifully prepared. Please go and enjoy,
google avatar

Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars Unassuming eatery serving up a variety of Japanese food. Fish was quality and fresh. Sushi(Amaebi, Unagi, Uni, Scallop and Snowcrab) - tasty and fresh Grilled Whole Fish - the fish was a bit dry and not particularly flavorful. Really had to rely on the dipping sauce for favors. I would skip next time. Fresh Oysters - small and not particularly memorable. Uni with oyster and quail egg - dreamy and decadent combination. Uni Mint Leaf - uni wrapped in shiso, tempura-battered and deep-fried, served with a dipping sauce. A bit on the oily side and they were a bit skimpy on the uni. Lobster Roll - not particularly memorable. I've had better lobster roll elsewhere. Overall, based on the dishes we ordered, felt like their sushi and sashimi items were stronger than their cooked items. Quality was perfectly acceptable but not worth a special trip if it's out of the way.
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
O! M! G! I haven't heard much about Hana other than, "you gotta go". I finally went!!!! Loralee, her brother and myself had dinner before our show at The Phoenix Theater Company. It was so good, I can't wait to go back for more. I really want to leave room for dessert next time.
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
I don't know how I've never reviewed this place before! The food is always on point and the service is great whether you're staying in or taking out. I haven't eaten there since they transitioned from BYOB but I had a blast when I did have to bring my own alcohol and can only imagine it's better now that they're serving cocktails.
google avatar

Stetler B.

Yelp
I love this place! The owners and staff are incredibly nice. The food is genuinely GOOD. I usually get spicy tuna rolls or rainbow rolls, and both are fantastic. This place is one of my favorites and I will always come back when I am craving sushi!
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday at 7pm- was seated quickly. To start, the environment is super loud and everyone was raising their voices to talk and sounds were echoing off the concrete floors and walls. Some tapestry decoration perhaps would be a cheap decoration to minimize the sound. For the food... - good mixed tempura - Hana special was a mix of many raw fish in a single roll which mixes the flavors and you can't tell them apart - the eel/unagi had bonito flakes on top which completely overpowered the flavor of the eel/sauce. Salmon and sea bass not bad - yaki udon had very salty/flavorful chicken bits but under seasoned and dry udon and veggies. Would've been better if the dish was a touch saucier (still relatively dry as I know this isn't a soup dish), and the seasoning was more uniform.

Mina R.

Yelp
So glad they expanded their restaurant as they are a well established sushi restaurant and plenty of wait staff who are attentive and kind.

Anthony K.

Yelp
The restaurant was busy and Service was good .we ordered goiza, it was bland and dough was chewy. We then ordered tempura , the vegetables were odd , portion was small. We had three rolls , portion were good sized but the rice was dry . I ordered steak and scallops , steak was overcooked and chewy not much seasoning except for black pepper. Scallops were cold and placed on lemon slices, I hate lemons , I left hungry . Bill was 65 dollars per person

Yelp
Love it the food is great and the service really nice!!! The ambience is relaxing so good to come with that someone

Yelp
My favorite sushi restaurant in the valley! Never had a bad experience/meal at Hana. I bet I've eaten there over 20 times. Keep up the amazing work!

Susy Z.

Yelp
Outstanding! We celebrated our best friend's 50th birthday here last Friday night. Plenty of room for all of the guests. They set us up in a room with other birthday celebrations. (Thank goodness because we get a bit excited...) The food was delectable and savory. The service was "on point". My only regret is not partaking earlier than last week. Soooo, I will be back next week to try other menu items. Perhaps the Saki as well. Mmmmmm HIGHEST QUALITY, HANDS DOWN!

Yelp
THE MOST AMAZING RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFETIME. This is the holy grail nihon cuisine. Everything was extremely fresh. MUCH PASSION in the food. Lori is an excellent Taisho. I can't wait to everything on the menu. I suggest putting away the phones and just get intimate with the experience. Enjoy your company and good to the fullest. YOU WILL WANT TO COME BACK. Unless you're looking for food with soul, you will come to the wrong place. U Chef Lori!
google avatar

Gillian B.

Yelp
I'm sure there are lots of good places for sushi in The Valley. But who wants just "good" sushi? If you want the best, freshest sushi, you need to go to Hana. Everything about Hana is the best!
google avatar

Keith R.

Yelp
Our second night here and we were just as excited about the food. Tonight we had Scallop Nanbanzuke, Chicken Tastuta-age, Squid Mariyaki, Matcha Cheesecake and the Cream filled Tempura. We were impressed the most with the Scallop Nanbanzuke. It was heaven in a bite! The Curry Udon is delicious!
google avatar

Elena X.

Yelp
This used to be one of our better sushi restaurant choices for Central Phx. This time we were very disappointed. The food didn't taste fresh and was of low quality. Ramen was the absolute worst and had a horrible odor to it. Service was wonderful. Ambiance needs some serious updating. Prices do not match the quality of the food. We will not be returning.

Kevin W.

Yelp
Excellent food, nice atmosphere, friendly service. Very enjoyable. I have revisited a fee times snd it is always a nice time. Prices are reasonable. Can't wait to go again.

Yelp
Excellent food was fresh and delicious. The service staff were friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable. This is a great local spot for awesome Japanese food!
google avatar

Billy C.

Yelp
Sushi is always good... at least every time that we have been here. Service is friendly. If you are looking for the trendy place, loud music and expensive build out, then you will be disappointed. However, if you like the local spot in a unassuming strip retail center, you will walk away happy.

Lauren P.

Yelp
Maybe I came on a bad night, but when you're paying $20 for two pieces of toro I expect it to be fresh. I ate one of the two and wanted to gag it was so fishy. I've had toro many other places so it's not for lack of knowledge of what it's supposed to taste like. I made the server aware and I was still charged the $20 even though it wasn't finished. I'm not one to complain or send food back but it was exceptionally terrible. I also had halibut and albacore which were fine. The yellowtail I had was pretty good. The uni I had ordered had a very strange "cheese-like" taste to it that I have never tasted on uni before. Overall really not great. Maybe if you like more fried types of sushi those dishes might be better. But their quality of fish is lacking by a LOT. No wiggle room with their customers either left a bad taste in my mouth. Still tipped 20% on my extremely overpriced bill for the food I was served. Server was sweet otherwise, don't have a bad thing to say about him other than I was still charged for bad food. Might not even be in his control so no hate to him. They had a good list of Japanese beers which was a plus. But more than likely will not be returning.

Yelp
First of all excellent service. 2nd of all the bathroom is GOATed. Go in to find out why The gyoza had a different texture to it (on the doughy side) and different taste that usual, which I appreciated The karage slapped hands down The Tonkustu ramen was alright The broth was unique in and of itself, but was missing some flavor components that would've made it a lot better The noodles were A1 6/5 Egg too was 5/5 The meat was also a solid 5/5. Tenderness and cared with flavor Would definitely come again

Yelp
Friendly staff, quick service, tasty food. Good- mixed greens, spicy tuna roll, pickled veg, seaweed salad, negi yaki, agedashi tofu. Better- cold noodles dipped in broth and the rainbow roll. Not a fan of the little dyno roll (I'm not a baked roll fan). Wouldn't make the long drive from home, but a good option if you are in the neighborhood.

Yelp
If we could offer this restaurant six stars, we would. You wouldn't know it by its strip mall exterior or simple and understated interior, but this eatery rivals some of the stiffest competition in all of Phoenix. We were greeted and seated immediately, offered menus, and had Genmaichai and lemon water within minutes. Every member on staff, from bussers to head chef, worked like a symphony, a well-oiled machine; heads down, yet all working together as if knitted that way. The kitchen was spotless, save for any cooking done that day. The tables were well-appointed with table clothes and linen napkins. We started with Umi No Sachi, lightly dressed quality greens with perfectly thinly sliced pieces of sashimi - we had salmon, fatty tuna, octopus, red snapper, and albacore. As soon as that was gone, we received miso soup, which came with our mains. I appreciated that the tea and soup were not H-O-T; I imagine great care was taken to offer these at perfect temps. Miso was followed by more salad, and finally mains of miso-glazed salmon and mid-rare steak, both accompanied by Japanese vegetables and salty brined matchstick daikon and carrot, as well as white rice. My husband chose to round it all off with green tea mochi, but I could not fathom eating one more bite; besides, I was more interested in the fried Twinkie or deep fried fig. We will return every time we visit Phoenix, and will likely visit before we leave. Brava to chef Hashimoto and her incredibly hard-working team!

Yelp
First time here. Luke was my server and he was just amazing. He was so attentive. My food came out in a timely manner. He checked on us often. The food here was amazing. Everything we had was very good. Our visit was great with Luke making it extra special. I hope to be back soon. I really love this place.

Yelp
Not sure I can recommend this place. The positives, the chicken takadashi was cooked freshly. My sushi rice was fluffy and seasoned pretty good. The bad, the chicken takadashi meat was actually old. My sushi fish also wasn't that fresh. The overall venue is dark, and above all it smelled funky. Like imagine old wet gym towels. I will not be going back here. I spent $40 on two rolls, a bowel of miso and some chicken nuggets and I can't get that stench out of my nose. Don't tempt the smell that I'm dealing with now. It's not worth it.

Yelp
Yummy food. Very welcoming owners - came to our table and checked on us. It was very busy in the restaurant and the staff hustled to us what we needed. The food did not disappoint:)
