Hanagatami

We had Tempura course tonight and Hanagatami, it’s located at 5th floor Ritz-Carlton, Sitting at the counter, watching each piece emerge perfectly timed and impossibly light, reminded us how powerful restraint can be when the craft is this good. The prawns were sweet and clean, the vegetables thoughtful and seasonal, and the chef’s calm confidence set the tone for the whole meal. Warm, attentive service without fuss—an experience we’d happily return to, just for the pleasure of slowing down and eating well.

You've never imagined that any food can be tempura. It's so delicious. If you come to Osaka, you must try the tempura here. Remember to make a reservation at least a month in advance. Enjoy 😊

Some world class sushi on display, dedicatedly prepared in front of you (if sat at the counter). Come for the adventurous sashimi options like urchin and caviar, stay for the incredible cuts of tuna, salmon and scallop. Very expensive for sushi standards so you won’t find locals here. After 20 minutes we were the only customers in the restaurant so the atmosphere was a bit dead. Otherwise a pleasant meal.

The tempura part of the restaurant is the part with the Michelin Star. Noticed that the bad reviews were to do with other parts of the restaurant. No way someone could give the tempura part a bad review! Come hungry because it's a long menu. Excellent service and lovely chef. What ever you tell the server, they will personalise your dessert with a message!

I have been to 8 different Michelin Star restaurants, all one-star except one was two-star — And I can say for certain this is the worst Michelin Star restaurant I have ever had. The food has absolutely no flavor, I have eaten better tuna in Nishiki Market. I was very underwhelmed. The only dishes I enjoyed were the sea urchin and persimmons dessert. If you are a westerner like me, I highly recommend avoiding this establishment. I think the only reason this has a michelin star is because it is in the Ritz-Carlton.

Great 1 Michelin Star dining experience. 27,000 yen per person for the tempura set with the additional Wagyu beef and Abalone. Would highly recommend you try this while in town and the tempura is just amazing goood! Every produce is from within Japan and they explain how each tempura should be eaten (with plain Okinawa salt, tempura sauce, lemon juice, or just by itself) and you be surprised at how it tastes different with each bite you taste. Special sparkling sake was interesting if you drink so go try it!

Really lovely place. We visited the tempura session which recently earned first Michelin star. With 18000 yen per person, it is not that expensive. Food was good and desert was served in a separate room for us in which they brought a special cake celebrate our honeymoon. For sushi counter, there is a garden view. Maybe we will try it next time.

A tempura experience of this quality is truly a next level culinary experience. The pride and care exudes from the chef as he presents his incredibly well choreographed meal, piece by piece. Wow. Arigato!!!

My husband and I had one of our favorite meals in Japan at Hanagatami. Hanagatami is located inside the Ritz Carlton Hotel and offers sushi, charcoal grilled, Kaiseki, teppanyaki, and tempura food options. Only the tempura counter (and not the entire restaurant) was awarded 1 Michelin star in 2023. For lunch, my husband made a reservation for us at the tempura counter. The tempura counter only seats 10 people, so reservations are highly recommended. There are two available tasting menu options to choose from for lunch and dinner. Lunch costs ¥9,000 - ¥12,000 less than dinner and includes a good amount of food. Our tempura lunch was served omakase style with seasonal ingredients selected by the chef. Everything served to us by the chef was so fresh and so delicious. He prepared the vegetables and the seafood in a manner that honored the quality and the integrity of the ingredients. One of the things I loved about this meal was the piece of tempura corn, but also the uni and the Ayu fish, etc. I know it might sound silly, because we got to eat some pretty cool stuff throughout the entire meal but the corn was sooooo naturally sweet. I've never had corn like this and really enjoyed it. I would loooove to come back and relive Hanagatami tempura counter again.
