"There are great health foods stores on the north shore and in Kapa’a, but nothing beats a Saturday morning at the farmers’ market in Hanalei. This is where you can get the most incredible fruit maybe in the world—including fruits and vegetables from the only biodynamic farm on the island and one of the best breakfast burritos we’ve ever had. Plan on staying a few hours. "

It was so nice to stroll through this Farmer’s market. Lots of arts and craft stands but I loved all the local fruits and veggies stands. I got a starfruit hot sauce!! Found local Hawaiian papaya, avocado, okianwan sweet potatoes 🤩😍 I’m so happy. Cold brew coffee was amazing too!

Lovely Farmers market with lots of crafts, local produce and fresh food. Get here early or you will miss of the food, parking spots, and the best of the produce. Behind the market, there is a lovely picnic area with probably the best view of your lives to enjoy your meal with. You will also have local birds. Prices are reasonable, sellers are sweet and friendly, and it's just a couple minutes away from Hanalei Beach Park. Don't miss this gem, if your Hawaii visit includes a weekend as they are open only on Saturdays/ Sundays.

Google
Great market with art vendors and food for sale. In particular, they had coconuts that they’d chop open so you could drink from them :)

Google
A great experience. Everything from Veggies and fruits to jewelry. Make sure to donate to the community center while you are there. It is a worthy local cause.

Google
One of the most beautiful farmers markets I’ve ever been to scenery wise with an array of products and food for sale. however, it was quite expensive.

Google
Lovely vendors with great products. Papaya was outstanding. Sourdougg bread was fantastic. The cheesecake in a canning jar was superb. We all enjoyed exploring the options.

Google
It’s a small market with may be 10-15 stalls. Very much walkable from the Hanalei center. Good fruit and veggies options. Loved the coconut stand and the tea stall.

Yelp
We love attending Saturdays at Hanalei Farmer's Market whenever we're on the island. There is a decent amount of vendors. It's really a good representation of Hanalei town. Dave up front at the entrance and everyone that works with him are all super mellow & friendly. I always get a shirt and a hat that they sell at the table located at the entrance to the farmer's market. I've ordered some online since, as well. It runs every Saturday from 930am to Noon... 9am is reserved for the kupuna to get their shopping in before the general public and rightfully so... There are fruit & vegetable farmers selling their produce. There is someone selling bees. There is jewelry and coffee. There are other snacks, as well. As far as farmer's markets go, you will never top the backdrop Hanalei has. Those mountains, those waterfalls... the occasional rainbow. So much greenery. It is truly a special special place... That deserves to be respected as well as the people that call it home. My lady loved the tote bags they sell. She has bought a couple of them... We cant wait to go back the next time we're back on the island. Mahalos Dave & crew... A hui hou.

Yelp
I loved hanalei. The farmers market had a stall that sold a vinegared mango which was really delicious. Sweet, salt, sour. Yummm. My mouth waters just thinking of it. Behind the market is a beautiful view of the mountains and taro fields. It is amazingly breathtaking! And the reason I have fallen in love with Hanalei during this family vacation. It feels like heaven on earth. It was muggy and humid and even raining but the view of the mountains are spectacular behind the farmers market.

Yelp
Cute little market. Had lots of home made art and jewelry. Great for the kids and has a playground nearby

Yelp
Had higher hopes for this after reading it was "the best farmers market on the North shore". We were surprised how few vendors were there, and ran into a couple that weren't very interested in answering questions about a few of the unique (to us) fruits they were selling like cream apples and chicos. Our teenage kids were really put off by those booths and it sort of put a cloud over the experience. On the positive side, one of the artists selling shell jewelry was really nice and willing to share info on her beautiful bracelets and necklaces, and the Filipino comfort food booth had Ube that turned out to be super tasty- great first experience with it and will definitely order the odd looking purple stuff again in the future! Overall I don't think this market is worth the drive if you're coming from further than Princeville, but if you're in the area on a Saturday morning it's ok for a quick stop. If you're out specifically looking for a Farmers Market, we liked the Princeville Farmers market just up the road a lot more- way more shops and friendly talkative vendors.
google avatar

Lee C.

Yelp
This farmers market didn't have much produce, is more a craft market. Smaller than I remember. Plenty of parking. Had some unusual vendors. Princeville Farmers Market was much larger and had many more produce vendors.
google avatar

Laurel S.

Yelp
Princeville Farmers market has many local vendors. Must see while on Kauai. Bought hand crafted sterling silver jewelry and farm fresh fruits and vegetables. The bakery items were the best!
google avatar

Lia M.

Yelp
It used to be much bigger and better. The thing is - now they are in competition with the Princeville farmers market. But honestly the Princeville one is more like and art festival with a bit of food. The Hanalei market is more fruits and vegetables with a few crafters. We sometimes hit both of them on Saturday mornings.

Yelp
This place is such a tourist trap now! Makes sure you take out a mortgage before coming here. 10 dollar coconuts, 10 dollar bag of fruit, 20 dollar 6 oz of jelly oh my! This place used to be cool to visit but now they are here solely to rip off tourists like what you see in the Bahamas - yes, it is getting that bad. Such a pity. With this and Princeville (same rip-offs), we now avoid all farmers markets - just not worth the bad experience.

Yelp
Yelp 100 Challenge 97 This is my absolute favorite market on the island. The papayas, mangoes, apple bananas, pineapples were all calling my name. And I found a mamey! There's nothing like a mamey with its creamy pinkish orange goodness. This was the largest market we visited and the one with the most variety. Ample free parking, too. You will love it! Go!
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Nice little farmers market. The vendors were super nice. Parking a bit too far to walk.
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
One of your bigger farmers market on Kauai island, but definitely on the pricier side. However you get what you pay for. Check out the photo for the goods that I got from Saturday; it turned out to be probably one of the best smoothie bowls I've ever had due to the freshness and quality of fruits. My bf got the breakfast burrito and he was shocked in how unique and fresh his burritos were. Every customer got an explanation about the type of burrito that they were sinking their teeth into!

Yelp
It was raining, but we loved going to this farmers market anyway. Hard-to-find, freshly harvested Kauai-grown fruit like Dragonfruit, Mangosteen, Rambutan, Longan, Pineapples, and delicious Papayas, little Bananas, and Mangoes. Lots of avocados and citrus too. We were in heaven. Probably impossible to find US-grown dragonfruit, and the freshness makes a difference....and it's not bland or chemically treated like the imported ones that have to make the shipping journey. I think we got the last of the season as it was mid-November. Also they don't sell these bright orange-yellow Pineapples on the mainland. Not used to the Rambutan having fibrous seed walls that are very, very hard to remove from the flesh, but they were delicious. Plenty of samples to keep the family happy. Multiple beautiful waterfalls make a scenic backdrop too. This one isn't the biggest on the island (maybe the community college one in Lihue is) but this was our favorite one for the small-town neighborhood atmosphere. One warning is this place isn't cheap (few things on Kauai are) and they probably don't take credit card. You're looking at $10 pineapples potentially, and dragonfruit/avocados weren't cheap either... maybe we paid too much or the big ones cost more.

Yelp
I have an obsession with Farmers Markets. My number one complaint when it comes to the various markets is: where are the farmers? Hanalei has an amazing line up of FARMERS and organic produce cultivated on this island. As opposed to Oahu, where the average Joe goes to a distributor buys produce and resells it to the general public. Here, you get the real Farmer with armpit hair and everything. Park at the soccer field next to the gorgeous church! Take photos of the amazing stained glass and then head over for some treats! I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the space, right in the backyard of Hanalei Taro Company. They had live entertainment and vendors for days (see photos). I bought the most amazing taro chips for $6 a bag, if you bought in bulk he would drop it down to $5. The sour sop lemonade was delicious! I sat down on a bench, listened to the island jams played by live musicians, drank my lemonade, ate my chips and watched the beautiful waterfalls forming in the distance of Halele'a's majestic mountains. (Heads up: If its rainy, the area gets muddy.) It doesn't get any better than this!

Yelp
Amazing fruit! Huge fruit! :)This is one of my favorite spots to come to when I'm in town because of the great selection of fruits and vegetables. My go to spot when I'm in Princeville.
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
Awesome place with a lot to choose from. Great quality all around in every aspect. Again a endless selection of items.
google avatar

Nicole W.

Yelp
Not many options and the fruit is very expensive. Limited parking. Very crowded during COVID. Not all vendors and customers were wearing a mask or wearing them in a way that covered their nose.
google avatar

Mary Pat K.

Yelp
Loved all the unusual products. Fresh fruit is amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a great Farmers Market, and I am not usually a big Farmers Market kind of guy. It was bigger than I thought it would be, the colors and smells alone make it worth the visit. Almost every vendor will allow you to sample anything prior to purchase, this is important since you may have never seen some of the things they are selling. We love the way Rambutan looks and always buy some even though the fruit alone is OK and a lot of work to get. Kauai is big on supporting local Farmers and Business, the Farmers Market is a direct reflection of that. Everything is well priced and local, if you are there buy something colorful and taste something new, you won't regret it.

Ping G.

Yelp
Worth checking it out if you are nearby but not worth it if you are coming from afar. The produce selection was limited but did include some fruit that were reasonably priced, delicious and hard to find in grocery stores.
google avatar

Lucky S.

Yelp
Fresh fruit, veggies, jewelry, music and more. Nothing's a great deal but I got delicious mangoes, pinapple, avocados and even a coconut! Definitely fun for the whole family!
google avatar

Jamie A.

Yelp
A great place to visit if you are in the area. We filled our bellies with exotic fruits: Rambutan, Apple Bananas, Papaya, and the best pineapple we've had in ages. Merchants are friendly, letting you sample to your heart's content and we even found some great gifts to bring back for friends. Definitely worth checking out if you are nearby.
google avatar

Lucky R.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the farmers market we were able to get fresh avocados, sugarcane pineapples, rambutans, and cucumbers. Everyone was very friendly offering samples and even giving extra fruits with purchase. We really enjoyed meeting the local farmers!!
google avatar

Steven X.

Yelp
Beautiful backdrop to this farmers market. Lots of fresh sweet fruit for purchase. Is quite small though so don't expect to spend too much time here. There's a macadamia nut stand that sells some of the best nuts I've ever had but was quite pricey. Get there early or else parking can be troublesome. There's a stand ran by a nice old asian couple that had the best fruit we tried. Definitely get the papaya and sugar cane.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little farmers market. Good produce and you can bargain. It's always awesome to try the local vendors and get really fresh fruits and vegetables. I bought a new favorite fruit I wish was available in the states. It's called Egg fruit because of its soft consistency and has a sweet and creamy texture. You peel and eat. There's a seed to take out. Just delicious and only found it at this farmer's market on the island. I visited 3. Got delicious dragon fruit, lychee, beautiful avocados, sweet tasty bananas, great squash, Okinawa potatoes, onions and some sweet oranges. Super happy about it and glad I stopped.
google avatar

Guest U.

Yelp
Went by this farmers market to take a look around and to get some local fruits. The produce was far better than the ones in side the stores. I'm suprised the local stores don't carry the same products too. If your in the area go by this place and treat your self to some ice cream mango. If your not in the area, make the drive. It's not that far. Kauai isn't a giant island. For the non locals, don't forget it may take more than a day before the fruit is ready to eat after you buy it. Go early on your vacation as they will not allow you to fly home with the fruit due to agricultural laws. Tip: putting a ripe banana in a paper bag with some fruit will help the other fruits ripen faster.

Yelp
Vendors are amazing! Local farmers sharing the Aloha. Various vendors selling anything from breakfast burritos (get you going for the day) to jewelry, portraits, clothing, and music.
google avatar

Leanne W.

Yelp
Amazing! Fresh fruits, veggies, juices, kombucha and more. The vendors were so friendly and kind and had us taste things like rombutans, apple bananas, different types of papaya and hibiscus. Fresh coconuts opened on the spot and breakfast burritos.... what more can you ask for? Perfectly ripe avocados and cilantro made for a perfect snack every day... so much better looking than the ones I picked up at the grocery store on the way in to town.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for fresh Hawaiian fruits and fresh vegetables. Cool local art too. Food and music as well. We went in a pouring rain got wet but still very worth it. If you are nearby on a Saturday well worth a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome farmer's market! I arrived around 10:15, and while the parking was full, you can easily park along the street and walk over. Is there any other place that looks so idyllic? With a backdrop of mountains, music playing, and a large grassy area, it's perfect to buy food and enjoy a snack or meal on the lawn. The market was a big smaller then I had expected, but it has a nice balance of fruit/vegetables, food, and jewelery/clothes. It looked like the acai parfait, frozen bananas and coconuts were a bit hit. I bought a starfruit and pecan muffin. Definitely shop around because prices vary slightly amongst the vendors. Great place to see lots of tropical fruits! Hopefully I will find myself in Kauai in the future so I can return.

Aditya D.

Yelp
The staff was super friendly and helped us get our life jackets fitted. The price was reasonable for a week rental.
google avatar

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Such a cute and happening farmers market in quaint little Hanalei. The majority of items for sale were fruits and veggies with a few vendors selling artisanal ingredients, cooked food, or products. The papayas we bought were juicy and ripe and way better than I had anywhere else on the island. Good prices. All the fruits and veggies were fresh looking. Friendly vendors and easy to park and walk there.
google avatar

Kathryn C.

Yelp
Decent selection of fruits (papaya) and vegetables(super fresh green onions). Pricey and can be a bit muddy.
google avatar

Julie R.

Yelp
We love the Hanalei Farmers Market and try to attend on every trip we make to the island. Its fun to walk around and see all the fresh produce and purchase items we've never tried before. Dragon Fruit, Mountain Apples, Starfruit... all delicious and worth trying. We also had some great Arugula from here as well. This always feels good to support the local community as well and I find everyone there very grateful. A must do on Kauai! (I also love the one in Waipa- also worth the visit if you happen to be in the area) Check out my photos above.
google avatar

Claire J.

Yelp
Coming from the Bay Area, I love going to the farmer's markets and support local goods. I like to do the same when I go to Hawaii. I love how they call it Sunshine Markets, it's sooo Hawaii-like. It was raining at first but mayn this place was busy. Parking here is easy and organized. I love seeing the colorful fruits and the freshness of it. I got a papaya and it was yum. I was looking for green mangoes but I guess they didn't have it yet. Hubby wanted a cold coconut juice and he got what he wanted. They can be pretty expensive, but I just remind myself to support the locals. They had some seasonings and baked goods also which was yum. There were also a lot of jewelries but it wasn't my style. Remember to bring your own bag.

Yelp
I have been going to this farmers market on our yearly trip to Kauai for over 10 years. When we started going there was a ton of variety and I felt that it was a pretty good deal. I would always leave with bags full of fresh, local produce to cook dinner at home. As time has gone on, the variety has gone down and the prices have gone way up. I realize that the cost of living on the island is high and these farmers need to make a living, but I really feel that the vendors are just trying to rip tourists off. $5 for an avocado, $7 for 2 bunches of bananas? On recent trips I am coming home with fewer and fewer items. I will probably continue going, but I will keep my expectations low. On a side note, do not wear anything fancy to this market if it has rained in the last few days. The parking is across a field that floods easily, so you have to tromp through mud only to get to the market, which is mostly dirt and also muddy.
google avatar

Shelly P.

Yelp
Rip off! $4 for a pineapple in the grocery store $11 at the Farmers Market. We never have this problem on the Big Island. I don't like Kauai people rip you off. More problems than this, but not at this market. It's so sad that this island leaves me with the impression that Kauai is an island of thieves. Don't want to come back. I'll stay on the Big Island from now on.
google avatar

Rich M.

Yelp
I mean I guess we should have checked the hours, but you'd think a farmers market would set up for more than 2 1/2 hours. I feel sorry for the poor vendors who have to go through all the trouble for such a short window of time.
google avatar

Drew H.

Yelp
My tip to enjoy the island experience, avoid the pricey restaurants and visit a farmer's market to taste the local food. During our stay, this market offers a variety of vendors ranging from fresh fruit, coconut drinks, snacks, and a meal - not to mention covered benches with live music. There were two vendors offering coconuts, but only one offered to cut it to access the meat at no extra charge - though I'm sure a tip would be happily appreciated. Go for the coconuts with the husk still attached - it a was a lovely lady with coconuts in the back of her truck offering $5 per coconut and bring it back so she can cut it in half for you.

Yelp
There's a farmers market everyday in Kauai and each one has its unique characteristics. This one on Saturdays is especially special because of the variety of vendors. Local artists show off their unique creations and the fruit and veggies are gorgeous and so alive! Feel better just feasting your eyes!

Thu N.

Yelp
Hanalei Farmer's Market rocks! We went to several farmers markets while on the island, 2 in Kapaa, 1 in Waipa. This one and the Waipa one were our favorites. Multiple fresh fruit vendors, with fresh fruit juices (soursop, mango), as well as breakfast food items, sausages. I was able to purchase freshly cut lychees, soursop juice (this was our favorite juice on the island!) and we hung out at the picnic tables listening to the live music while enjoying the gorgeous view of the taro fields. This is a must do while in Kauai. Grab your fresh fruit, snacks, then head to Hanalei Bay!

Yelp
Great flowers. Great fruit. A little muddy. Beautiful scenery. Bring cash and get there early.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best Farmers Market on the island. I always come here every Saturday. I'm here. I buy all my fruits & vegetables, flowers, and baked goods. They also have some other local artists items. This year I bought a beautiful tie dyed skirt and top. I've also bought pillows, placemats, puzzles- all made by locals. A must lace!

Yelp
Get here early. I was there at 9:05am (25 minutes before opening) and there already a dozen or so people waiting. By 9:30 there was a crowd of 60 - 70 people. There's a strict 9:30 opening and there's a string that closes off the entry of the market, but people try to sneak through or walk in from behind. People are serious about the markets here, once the string drops, everyone RUNS in. It's like survival of the fittest and I admit I got caught up and started to bolt too. I saw this girl eating longans and I knew I had to have some. This was probably one of my favorite experiences in Kauai. I left with so much amazing fruit and ate it over 4 mornings for breakfast. I got 3lbs of longans, 1.5lbs of lychees, 8 mangosteens, 6 strawberry papayas, a jack fruit, two silkscreened farmers' market bags and a hat. All under an hour. Woo hoo!

Yelp
Boy, do I miss this Market! I think it's my most favorite Farmer's Market I have been to. The day the hub and I went, it poured buckets just before opening .... and we were there maybe 30-40 min prior to opening to get a feel for the market opening (heard there can be huge lines). There was a good number of locals waiting in the rain under umbrellas or under some overhand nearby. A young woman was walking around with a clipboard, and I understood her as the coordinator. And around, 9:30 am I think, she gives the OK to enter the market. I was entertained with the people rushing in ... some running and some fast walking. When I turned to my hub laughing about the running, some people overheard in embarrassment and slowed down. I felt bad, but I couldn't hold my laugh as some close friends know :) The hot item that day that sold out quick in minutes was the red leaf lettuce and the lemons ... who would have thought! The hub had fun walking around observing the sights and sounds and what was on high demand. Meanwhile, I was very interested in the local artisans ... and wow! So many talented artists! I wanted to purchase everything in sight along with the papayas and guavas and coconuts and mangos. Non-produce wise, there was a lot of jewelry, accessories, beauty lotions, etc. There were a few food stands, and I hear that the Thai place is to die for, but we came with a full belly after a nice breakfast at a nearby place. The hub got a nice handmade hat that we forever will cherish as pc of HI :) Well made and durable. I wore it a couple times ... when he let me :D I enjoyed watching the pregnant lady working off the back of the pickup truck filled with coconuts ... selling fresh coconut drinks! Intrigued, but we held off. Next time.... right? lol I guess the sales from the farmer's market that sell here weekly on the Saturday mornings make up about 25% of their monthly, which is huge! I believe they were closed at one point for some permit issue, but that got resolved within short time. Whew! Hanalei Farmer's Market really is part of the Hanalei community heart!
google avatar

Candice Y.

Yelp
For anyone who is on Kauai (visiting or otherwise), this is one thing that shouldn't be missed! The Hanalei Farmer's Market offers an impressive variety and quality of produce and flowers. The bunch of cut orchids my bf bought me from a vendor here lasted about 6 wks (yep, I was able to fly them back with me and wear true Hawaiian flowers in my hair on the mainland for over a month!)... absolutely one of the best things I've ever bought on vacation EVER! My bf was stunned that he was able to find fruits he hadn't seen since his childhood! It's a great place to sample and buy island produce! I tasted so many different fruits I had never seen and will never forget! The chill atmosphere and pleasant, helpful attitude of everyone there really puts you into relaxed island mode! Plus, everyone there looked so naturally happy and healthy (in an anti-"LA-healthy" sorta way), it's contagious and you'll forget the toxic metropolis you used to call home. Don't be afraid to ask stupid questions... the locals were all more than willing to explain everything to this dumb mainlander! Also, if you're in the market for a surfboard, the first Saturday of each month, there is a surfboard swap meet just down the road. The prices on the boards there are unbelievable!
google avatar

Dana L.

Yelp
Not to much to talk about. Saw decent prices and some interesting products like fresh coconut and all natural breads. It is really small and had about 20 or so booths. The thing I wanted to mention is that we bought a mango and wanted to eat it soon, but had no way of cutting it so we asked her to cut it for us. And she did! We saved it for lunch and it was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
When in Kauai, do as the locals do. This farmers market was quite nice, the stand out produce were the arugula leaves, radishes, pineapple, papaya, and kale. We arrived early about 30 minutes before opening, but that doesn't seem to make much difference as folks arriving later cut to the front of the line... well there is no line really. So about 5, 10 minutes before they let people in, expect about a 100 people to gather around the entrance. This was right before New Years, probably peak tourist season.
google avatar

Meme M.

Yelp
Akamai Juice is to die for, as is Sal's Salsa. The chocolate & coconut covered frozen bananas from Kauai Kunana Dairy are also excellent. There are usually some food vendors (Thai & others) for a quick lunch and the assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables are in abundance. This is a fantastic and one of my favorite Sunshine Markets. Enjoy!!

Yelp
My co-worker told us that when we were on Kauai, we had to visit this farmers market and she was right. We picked up some fresh mangos, lychees, logans, guava and PAPAYAS! You have to come here early if you want the best selection though so don't come late or else you'll be sorry. I bought a fresh coconut and they opened it up and stuck a straw in it for me. If you're craving tropical fruit, this is the place to go!
