Hanasaki Japanese Restaurant - Review - Fitzrovia - London - The Infatuation

"It feels as though London has more restaurants than people. But only some spots make you truly grateful for this city, and Hanasaki is one of them. On one of Fitzrovia’s quieter roads, this small restaurant serves some of the best Japanese food in London. Little touches like adorable mini carrot and radish-shaped chopstick holders, attentive staff who check in without being overbearing, and reliably good home-style cooking make this spot a firm favourite for wholesome family dinners. Order the moreish crab croquettes as soon as you sit down, a couple of inside out rolls (our favourites are the spicy tuna and ebi tempura), and some perfectly fried chilli squid for good measure. Whether you sit at the surprisingly comfortable counter (the seats have backs) or one of the five or so tables, a pleasant meal will be had. Because Hanasaki is just the kind of crowd-pleasing restaurant you’d hope would open in your neighbourhood. Food Rundown Horenso No Goma Mushrooms and wilted spinach are covered in a nutty, sweet sesame sauce. This is an excellent salad, so get one for the table. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Kani Croquette Crispy, fried croquettes filled with a gooey crab centre. These come in threes, so if there’s any more of you then make sure to double up. You won’t want to share. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Truffle Koji Sea Bass Soft melting sea bass is in a umami-rich truffle sauce. This is a great one to share. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak Chilli Squid Fried squid can often be too chewy, but not this squid. The coating is nice and crispy while the soft squid only requires a single bite. No over-chewing here. PlayMute video credit: Rianne Shlebak Spicy Tuna Inside-Out Roll Maki A solid tuna roll with a nice kick to it without overpowering the fish itself. This is our favourite inside out roll here. PlayMute Hamachi Ceviche Maki This sounds better than it tastes. The cut of hamachi on top is a little too thick and the zesty ceviche-style dressing didn’t work as well as we thought it would. photo credit: Rianne Shlebak" - Rianne Shlebak

Great location and fair prices for the food. I especially loved the presentation of each dish, which is a fundamental aspect in Japanese cuisine. I highly recommend the tongue skewer and the scallop sashimi. We had a baby ishidoro (the stone lanterns at the entrance of Japanese temples and shrines) on our table which I adored! 😍 The service was excellent! 😊

We were delighted to discover this hidden gem of a Japanese restaurant. The food was exceptionally fresh and full of flavor, with service that was both unobtrusive and efficient. The sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, and the yakitori was bursting with flavor. It's definitely earned a spot on our list for a return visit to explore more of the menu.

We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and really enjoyed the kind & friendly service with the super cute decor. The food was great and I've come to realise that a unagi dish really makes or breaks a great Japanese restaurant because the unagi maki was genuinely delicious compared to others I've had. Recommendations: Salmon chirashi bowl Soft shell crab karaage Unagi maki Yuzu sorbet Lychee ice cream

We went for the Omakase Experience and enjoyed every moment of it. Each piece of sushi was a different experience and all were absolutely delicious. The fish was served generously and was of top quality. A sudden onslaught of online orders and subsequent gig-economy workers running in and out somewhat disturbed the otherwise intimate experience. The Chinese couple who runs the restaurant were quick to send them back to wait outside, which was good, yet I definitely prefer places that do not offer food to-go, as this is never a good experience for the guests. Yet who am I to argue with the reality of gastro-economics in the heart of London? Don’t expect a Michelin star experience here. The place is honest, reduced to what matters and run with care and love. It is worth every penny if you come for the food and the heartfelt service. We will definitely come back.

This was such a truly wonderful experience! The food was just amazing, we were wowed by every bite we took. You can really feel and taste just how much care has gone into preparing each dish. The service & ambience are also lovely. It was warm, cosy, and friendly, and the decor made us feel as if we were in Japan itself! Prices were very reasonable considering the incredible quality of the food. We’re already planning our next trip back!

Very tasty food and good service. Loved the chilli squid, kani croquette as small sharing plates. For mains we had grilled salmon, chicken teriyaki, grilled seabass. Tried mochi ice cream for dessert.
