This place has great Korean hotpot and stews (favorite budae jigae in the Bay Area)

Hancook offers an affordable AYCE KBBQ and Shabu Shabu menu all day long! They even have an AYCE drink menu! The servers are super friendly and the portions are so generous. Everything tasted great so your whole party will be satisfied. My favorites were the boneless short ribs and Korean fried chicken. Those are a must try!

I’ve been a loyal customer of Hancook for a long time and have even recommended it to others because their food is usually great. However, my recent experience was beyond disappointing. I ordered a bowl around 7 PM—well before their closing time at 9 PM—yet the food I received was made with no care at all. The portion was lacking, with barely any meat, despite paying extra. I requested it to be spicy, but it wasn’t. I asked for cutlery and didn’t receive any. The menu stated there would be bean sprouts, but they were completely missing, and instead, my dish was just scattered with mushrooms. On top of that, the food was overly greasy and didn’t match the quality shown in their online pictures. It’s frustrating because I’ve noticed a pattern—online orders are treated much worse than in-person ones. The quality, portion sizes, and attention to detail just aren’t the same. I’ve tolerated this long enough, but as a frequent customer who has paid extra for their food, I expected much better service and quality. Also the spoon you see there isn’t from hancook. I had to look through a trash can to get it and the wash it off so I can eat this nonsense. I was just super hungry and I wasn’t at home. This is nasty food I got and this is what I wanted, hope you can tell the difference. 😵‍💫

I was expecting this place to be better based off the reviews but it was just ok imo. The service was really slow but the meat quality was good. There wasn't that many hotpot options even with the premium menu. The blue crab was nice but they didn't have any fishballs with roe. The veggies are also limited, however, I do like that there is a self serve veggies and sauce station. The bbq meats were cooked to order which was really nice but most of the items were flavorless or just didn't have that much flavor.

Google
This hidden gem absolutely nails Korean short ribs! From the first bite, it was clear that this restaurant understands the art of preparing succulent, perfectly seasoned meat. The portions are so substantial that my dining companion and I were completely overwhelmed - in the best possible way.

Google
The food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. My wife and I were very pleased. I had the pork belly, she had the Kimchi stew and we shared the kimchi pancake. It was so good we brought our friends a couple of days later and we had a similar experience. Great service and a friendly staff.

Google
5 stars great food and service. I came here for my birthday and Jane Moon and Justin made sure the experience was extra special. She made sure our order was correct and that our drinks were always filled. I definitely recommend this place if you have a birthday or an occasion coming up. Be sure to ask Jane Moon and for Justin when your coming to visit this place. Awesome service!!!!! Also they are very dog friendly.

Google
The food is satisfying and well made. We ordered the beef short ribs which were expensive but they often are, unless you're in LA. Service was okay. The seafood pancake was not crispy enough. I enjoyed the yakuit after dinner.

Google
The biggest problem here is the service. The two guys that served us were cold and unwelcoming. When we sat down we weren’t given menus and had to ask for them, and upon asking we were met with a stiff scowl as if we were inconveniencing them. The cold service continued throughout the rest of the meal. The service turned us off, and on top of that, the food just wasn't good. There is much better Korean food to be found at other restaurants in the Bay Area. Please don’t bother with this place.

Yelp
The vegetables and quail eggs are so fresh and abundant. Must try the lobster balls The prices are reasonable. Kids are half price for the buffet. The portions are large and food is delicious. Serviré is prompt and friendly. This is a real hot pot and food spot. Loved the appetizers bulgogi and brisket. The wings areas delicious too.

Yelp
I stopped by Hancook Restaurant this past weekend for lunch, and overall, it was a pretty solid experience! I was excited to try their braised beef short ribs and the soft tofu stew, and I have to say, the ribs definitely lived up to the hype. They were incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth--so good! The soft tofu stew was comforting and packed with flavor, though I wish it had a bit more spice to kick things up a notch. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, making it a nice spot to enjoy a laid-back meal. The service was friendly, but our food took a little longer to arrive than expected, which was a minor downside. Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food, and I left feeling satisfied. I'll definitely be back to try more of their menu options. If you're in the area and looking for a hearty meal, Hancock is worth checking out!

Yelp
Restaurant isn't huge but fits a good amount of ppl still. Ambiance isn't anything crazy just a typical hot pot restaurant setup with tables and built in hot plates and the steam hoods. Food was good we did AYCE hot pot. Really liked the rice cakes on a stick. The Japchae was okay not the best I've had or worst. Meat seamed to be decent quality but it the portions were small. (Maybe they do that on purpose so people don't waste?) The self service bar for veggies and sauces was okay not mind blowing. Service is where it was lacking. There were 2-3 people working but they didn't really check on us often, but I understand it was a bit busy. If I want a hot pot fix in Oakland I may return but honestly wasn't blown away.

Yelp
I have this really bad obsessive personality about food and discovered this spot and Friday and just had to go back on Sunday! The service is really good, even on a Friday night. The staff came and checked on us repeatedly and it was nearly empty when we came around 6pm, but quickly got busier. We still felt all the food came out very timely and did not feel rushed. You can grab veggies and sauces as you want in a self serve bar. I enjoy that there is a good variety of a la carte items like appetizers as well! We loved this experience and want to keep coming back! I am not aware of many other all you can eat hot pot in Oakland so they will keep getting our business! My only complaint or recommendation would maybe be to update the cleaning because there are some parts of the restaurant that don't smell great.

Yelp
I'm genuinely concerned why this place has such high reviews because I was left disappointed with my family. The bossam pieces were either cut too thick or they were too cooked that it felt like I was chewing on carnitas. They gave like 4 pieces of lettuce for the bossam so we had to ask more. The seafood pancake was so soggy that I wasn't expecting it. Usually you get a crunch. I think they also forgot the dipping sauce to go with it. The galbi jim meat wasn't tender enough like the fall off the bone tenderness. It was tough to chew. The corn cheese lacked mozzarella cheese and kewpie mayo to bring out the flavoring. The snow cheese chicken was the best but we thought it was gonna be a whole fried chicken and not just drums and flats. This is only best when it's hot and fresh so I recommend you finish this at the restaurant! When the bill came, we requested to spilt 3 cards but the server only charged 2 cards and said they don't accept discover. She should've came back and ask if there is another card we can use instead of charging it already. The service was a bit lacking and we came in on a Sunday at 12pm when they opened. Parking was also hard to find as they don't have a parking lot so it's all street parking.

Yelp
This is in a busy part of Oakland so traffic and parking is a little hard, but there's always someone leaving so if you don't mind walking a bit, there are parking around. It's a nice walk with a lot to see. It was pretty empty on a Wednesday night so we were seated right away. There are 3 different QR codes to scan to look at the menu: lunch special, All you can eat, or a la cart. We opted for the a la cart menu this time around. Corncheese: I really enjoyed it. It's cheese. It's corn, you can't go wrong. I love the hint of sweetness you get. It was a small dish. Between 3 of us, we all had about 2 spoonfuls before it was done. Gyoza/potstickers/pan fried dumplings: these were ok. We've had better in other places, they were not as crispy as we had hoped. Texture was more steamed than pan fried. Garlic Bossam: I'm not sure what I was expecting from this dish but to me it was pretty good. It feeds 2-3 people. My friend didn't like it as much as a regular bossam. The garlic was a minced sauce that sat on top but it was sweet and not at all garlicky. We had to ask for cloves of garlic on the side that we thought it came with along with lettuce leaves to eat it with. Budae Stew: we all agreed on getting this and it's also a big dish that serves 2-3. Between the 3 of us, we still had leftovers to take home. It was a delicious soup with ramen noodles, spam, hotdogs and a bunch of tofu, different sorts of mushrooms, onions, and a slice of cheese on top. One of the better Budae's that I've had, it was a really comforting dish on a cold night. I recommend coming here if you like Korean food. They have a lot of options from all their menus and the dishes are good portion sizes. There are plenty to do around the area after or before dinner but be prepared to look for parking on side streets. It gets pretty busy.

Yelp
My bf and I came here wanting to do hot pot, and it was amazing! It did take a while to get seated, I would say we waited about 45 mins, but the host/server kept checking in on us while we waited to give us updates which I appreciated. We ended up doing the hancook special which comes with 2 broths, 1 meat, and 2 sides. I think it's the perfect amount of food for 2 people. Our favorite broth was definitely the spicy miso, which had a bit of a kick but was delicious. The chicken garlic was good too but nothing could compare to how great the spicy miso was! The wagyu shoulder was delicious and tender and they gave us a ton of it. We also ordered the wings, which take about 15 minutes to come out because they cook them fresh to order. We went for hot and sweet and soy garlic. The hot and sweet were delicious, but stayed super hot for a while because of the sticky sauce. The staff were super attentive and nice and made sure our broth never emptied. The ambience is also quite nice. It's a darker room, but even with all of the other people in there with us, it was super easy to talk. I'd definitely go back again!

Yelp
Amazing Food, hospitable service, relaxed environment, highly recommended for dinner. Our server Lee, and Cita are both kind and generous with knowledge on what to order and what's the best in the menu

Yelp
I love Hancook! Have brought many friends and family here, and I always want to come back. The meat is fresh, soup is flavorful, and everything is organized/easy to order and efficiently eat! The restaurant is big and has an outdoor patio as well. There is also a sides bar to get extra sauces and veggies. Would recommend getting the AYCE menu and trying everything! My favorite appetizers are the rice cake skewers and soy garlic Korean fried chicken. Only complaint I have is of the service. So far each time, the servers here have not tried to check up or notice if you're trying to get their attention.

Yelp
This was such a unique and delicious experience. My friend and I did the hot pot for two with prime rib and noodles. Basically they bring out two pots of broth of your choice, and you can also go to the veggie and sauce bar to get everything from salmon balls, dumplings, cabbage, and other assorted veggies and fish items. You put the meats and veggies etc into the pot and ladle them out as they cook. It's a fun activity while eating and the food was delicious. And don't forget to ask for banchaun for some pickled veggies as well!

Yelp
I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! The best hotpot ayce in Berkeley. I've been here many times, everything one the menu tastes great! Also excellent service, they give you a small yogurt every time

Yelp
Amazing and delicious Korean food!! Food took a bit to come out but I love that it was fresh and hot. They had music playing so you can sing along when waiting for the food. Definitely will come back again 10/10

Yelp
One of my new favorite places for AYCE Hot Pot and KBBQ in Oakland. I've been wanting a hot pot spot for a long time now, but even better that you can upgrade for wagyu and also can order KBBQ if your heart desires! The last few times I came by there was no wait, you just sit down and pick your broth. You get a choice of two so we do one original and one spicy. There's a buffet section to make your own sauce and grab your veggies. We always get the wagyu chuck roll because it's so tender. Meats are thinly sliced and quick to cook. I've also had the KBBQ a few times and it's delicious. The Kalbi short rib and the rib eye jalapeño and garlic were tasty! For side dishes, the corn cheese is a must have and one of my favs. Japchae is also delicious! Ambiance is like a Korean style bar/restaurant but they have little booths for more privacy. Kinda dark inside but it's a cool vibe. Service is excellent! Their staff is friendly and they'll come by and check on you often and if you need more food.

Yelp
This place was a bit of a miss, kind of on the mediocre side. This place is one where we used up the veggies for sure but the corn cheese was a bit sweet like as if they topped it with sugar. The other food we kind of felt like we"d rather leave it than finish it. The banchan was ok enough that we got refills on a few of them too. The one item I really enjoyed that I can't get at many restaurants like this was their noodles that were wide and chewy like sweet potato noodles. Service wasn't really existent, went on a weeknight so maybe that was part of it. It was pretty empty except for 1 or 2 other tables so pretty quiet night, no need for a wait.

Yelp
It's been over a year and I finally reviewed them. Service was ok Food ok Condiment bar - meh Price was ok. Yelp removed my last review of this place and now they're asking for a review again. Maybe I was too mean last time. But seriously, this place did not impress me at all.

Yelp
Hancook is known for their hot-pot (shabu-shabu) option but we were not trying to cook for BFFs bday. We opted to order the whole menu because everything looked sooo appealing in the yelp photos. lol BBQ Short Ribs Tofu Soup Bossam w/ Garlic Pajun Tteok-bokki Rosé Bean Paste Stew with Tofu and Vegetable I mean it's a lot for 6ppl but we had plenty to bring home and eat the next day. All the dishes were delicious - but my Doenjang-jjigae was lacking in seasonings and depth of the fermented soy bean soup...but all the other dishes were pretty solid. Don't over look the galbi-jim w/ cheese because it was very well executed! We choose a non-spicy version and in it was tons of beef short ribs, soft really fall-off-the-bone protein, eating companions loved it. And their version of Tteok-bokki Rosé, really was quite tasty and addicting. Service was soooo good and the young lady helping us was very kind and attentive! Kept checking our table despite it being a full house. Great vibes too, music blaring from the TV w/ Jkook, kpop music is everywhere and taking over. We for sure will come back...Oakland is the best for Korean food! Kamsamnida!!!

Yelp
Good: vegetable bar, meats, friendly service Bad: men's bathroom still giving me nightmares, I felt sick the rest of my time there after that. DON'T get the clams they have rocks in them, bit into a rock and could have chipped my teeth or worse. Will never be returning here. hope this helps

Yelp
One of our favorite restaurants in Oakland~not sure why it took me so long to write a review. The food is cleanly prepared and served, the toppings bar is Amazing, the servers are always very polite, and the prices are very reasonable for the amount and quality of food. We get the unlimited hot pot/shabu shabu for two. It comes with a little yogurt dessert at the end and you can add unlimited beer too. Favorite broths are traditional with garlic, onions, cilantro and seaweed added in /// tonkatsu with carrots and little veggies. It's got music playing and is always really busy, the wait isn't long and it's quiet enough to have a full convo without yelling.

Yelp
Came here because MBRs wait was ridiculous and im so glad we did! Lots more available seating, service was excellent, very attentive and welcoming. Ordered: beef raised short ribs, rose tteokbokki, garlic wings, #24 soup. Everything was super flavorful and cooked perfectly! The tteokbokki was soft and chewy, the beef raised short ribs was fall off the bone, garlic chicken wings some of the best I've ever had. They also offer an all you can eat menu and shabu-shabu which I will have to come back for. New fav Korean spot, replacing our former fav, DaeHo.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice clean space, friendly and fast service. A reasonable price for AYCE Shabu shabu and kbbq. They do cook the grilled kbbq items for you which I liked bc then I can have the hot pot and my kids can have the items cooked for them by someone else. I think I found my new fave hot pot spot!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered korean fried chicken as takeout from here and the portion was generous. The soy garlic sauce wasn't very strong, which I appreciated. The radish side dish was so good with the chicken. Perfect for late night craving!

Yelp
Move over Moo Bong Ri as Hancook has finally dethroned you to become my favorite restaurant in NorCal. I mistakenly came here thinking it was a KBBQ place, but it was a blessing in disguise instead. Hancook is a hot pot place that offers Korean dishes as well. Quite honestly, one of the most extraordinary dining experiences I have ever had. The servers were attentive, the food was divine, and the price we paid was worth it! It is AYCE hot pot with an extra $10 charge for AYCE KBBQ as well. If you like drinking, they also offer all you can drink for about $10 as well, which is an amazing deal. The food here is amazing, and I adore their marinaded galbi. You also get to choose two appetizers as well in which we chose the seafood pancake and corn cheese which again, were amazing!! It is now my favorite Korean restaurant up in the Bay, and I will be taking my friends here from now on.

Yelp
For a quick Thursday lunch, I went to Hancook. At 1:45PM, the establishment seemed relatively empty, so I received seating immediately. I ordered the Yukgehjang, a spicy beef soup with shredded flank steak, vegetables, eggs, and glass noodles ($20.95). Aside from the price, the Yukgehjang had not changed during the pandemic, which was the last time I had been to Hancook. The beef soup itself seemed well-seasoned and rich. It might be too salty for those looking for a lighter soup or broth, but I enjoyed it. The side dishes, however, tasted lackluster. The cabbage kimchi tasted over-fermented and thus only tasted sour. The fish cake was too sweet, the bean sprouts were slightly over-salted, and the spinach was under-salted and bland.

Yelp
We ended up here by accident after the place we had planned on going to was unexpectedly closed. This is a nice place though - they have AYCE shabu and even AYCE bbq for an extra $5. They also have a regular Korean ala carte menu available as well so we ordered from that. Everything sounded amazing but it was just two of us so we stuck to just 3 dishes. Turns out one dish would've probably been enough. We brought nearly everything home for leftovers! Braised beef short ribs - the dish looks gigantic so it seems like it would serve more than two for the $80 price point but it's actually not too big. It does have fish cake and thin rice noodles and rice cakes, as well as some carrots, so thats what makes it look like a lot, but there isn't a ton of actual meat. I thought it was delicious especially with cheese, but I'd actually rather just have AYCE KBBQ for that price. Rose spicy cream ttebokki - I'm so glad I asked about the rose part, I thought it meant it was rose flavored which I don't like. But she said it wasn't - the sauce is creamy and spicy and more like carbonara, yum!! I loved the flavor of the sauce a lot with the creaminess. We got the small size and it was still a LOT for $18. I wish they left the bacon out though and just leave it as an option for an add-on. If I came back I'd get this again and add ramen or udon and dumplings to make it a complete meal. Yukgehjang - this is my first time having this dish in general but flavors were familiar. It was a spicy hot noodle soup with glass noodles (like in japchae) and shredded beef (reminded me of carnitas). It was very yummy but I think I could skip on this next time. Overall great food but I would've just preferred to do the shabu and kbbq and spent way less! I'd get the rose ttekbokki again out of all 3 dishes, otherwise all three together really began to taste the same and we really needed the banchan for a pop of freshness. Service was good but took a while for us to get the check. Then I realized there's actually a call button on the table that they didn't tell us about until they told us it's there if we needed extra boxes haha. At the end of your meal you also get a Yakult drink and I liked that it was semi frozen so it was like a slush.

Yelp
To put it simply, Hancock exceeded my expectations. I love hotpot, it's probably one of my favorite foods. My mom was in town for the night and I was wanting to try this spot out, so we went! Upon walking in, the restaurant isn't too big, and it reminds you of your usual hotpot location. Bustling tables, so much steam, a fun time that many enjoy. We sat and decided to get the premium hot pot, which meant that we could order every item from the menu (excludes extras like whole orders of Korean fried chicken, etc). This meant that the meats we could choose from included WAGYU, tenderloin, crab, a wide variety of cuts and specialties. We got the spicy miso and tonkatsu broth to cook our items in. The thing we both liked about this location is that only the vegetables and sauce options were out for people to freely grab. At other places we have been, seafood and eggs have been out for people to grab as well, but that was a sanitary concern to us. It was nice that we had to ask for each order of seafood, made us more comfortable to actually eat it. Now for what people really want: THE TASTE! Overall, the tastes of everything we ordered were amazing. People say that eating wagyu at hotpot defeats its whole purpose because you cook it and lose the fat, but the tenderness of this mean does not compare to any we have had. The broths were amazing, very flavorful and made everything we cooked better than we could expect. The veggies were fresh and there were many sauce options that you could use to make your perfect portion. My mom also ordered a small plate of garlic soy Korean fried chicken, gyoza, and japchae, which all tasted great as well!! We ate here for about 1.5 hours and left super stuffed. The pricing is reasonable for what you get, especially if you go for the premium! There's also a $10 (I believe that's the price) all you can drink option as well. We don't get hate though... overall, definitely check this place out, whether it's for a date, a huge group of friends, or whatever is in between :)

Yelp
My first time trying hotpot and I loved it , the clams where my favorite part as well as the station with unlimited sides the music is good the Korean BBQ is high quality we got the AYCE ( Korean bbq included in that ) and I really enjoyed myself I'll be back !!!

Yelp
We came here with the family for Mother's Day and we split the adults and kids into 2 separate tables. The food and sauce bar was really good. I removed 1 star due to service. It was quite slow and we didn't get everything we orders. Possibly because they were busy (considering the occasion- it was Sunday and it was in fact Mother's Day) also, parking was quite shady. I'd probably come back and try them again on a regular weekend to try their a la carte dishes. Overall though food was good. Soup/broth was on the salty side not sure if by design since you're supposed to cook meat and seafood in it but for me it was on the salty side. Other than that, side dishes were delicious!!! A must come back to try again type thing and then final verdict! Lol

Yelp
Friends of ours made reservations for 5 adults and one baby for 7:30 where they were able to seat us on a Saturday night. We did have an additional adult now 6 so after waiting at our original table, our host offered us another table to accommodate our party in about 10 minutes which was greatly appreciated! I don't drink and everybody at the table has to participate in order to partake but he made an exception. All you can drink was for $11.95. We did the premium option vs the regular for $5 more ($40.95) and from there it went downhill. * we didn't get any of our hot apps for awhile * our broths hadn't arrived but our uncooked meat did * when we brought this to our servers attention he made it seem like we were an inconvenience to him. He found out that the printer had run out of ink so the kitchen couldn't read it. * had an order of pan fried dumplings, snow, hot & sweet fried chicken come that were decent and crispy * the amount of meat that came out was very light. We ordered beef brisket, rib eye, beef belly, crab & scallop. I didn't have the crab & scallop but my bfs brother said the crab was mushy, small and same with the scallop. * broths had no distinct flavor and they all tasted the same. One section of the broths was pretty low that never got refilled and when it was refilled only one section which wasn't the one we wanted was filled. My friends had to combine broths to cook the remaining food. We ordered the traditional, spicy miso, spicy and chicken garlic. * every time we used the call button we felt like we were a bother and the pace of the food was so slow that we don't feel like we got our moneys worth and for the 2 hours we were there. * ordered the japchae and the noodles weren't cut so we couldn't really share with the table * we also ordered a bunch of ramen for the baby and a friend of ours * i think there was a newbie that kept bringing us another tables drinks and food I honestly do not have any pros to this place except maybe there was a good selection of sauces, we were seated near the utensils etc. so we could help ourselves and at the end they gave us probiotic drinks. Our table wasn't unruly or rude and a lot of us work in the food, retail, customer service side of things and run our own business that we're a pretty chill group. The customer service was pretty bad and i don't say that lightly. I would not come back honestly which is unfortunate.

Yelp
We decided to try out Hancook for lunch, and the food here did not disappoint. My favorite was definitely the Beef Bibimbap; don't forget to add all of the chili sauce! The chili sauce added extra flavor and added a slight kick. It was delicious and what you expect from a hot stone pot: hot, crispy rice complimented by a variety of vegetables and flavorful beef. We also ordered their Kimchi Pancake and soy garlic Korean Fried Chicken. The Korean Fried Chicken was crispy and delicious. The Kimchi Pancake, unfortunately, was a miss for me. It was a little soggy and kept falling apart when we picked up a piece. Personally, I prefer mine to be a little crispy. The portion sizes were huge, and we had to take home a lot of leftovers. I also felt that it was hard to grab the waiter's attention when we needed help, despite the restaurant being quite empty. Overall, super solid food and would definitely come back to satisfy a bibimbap craving. They also gave out complimentary Yakult drinks with your bill!

Yelp
Service was really nice, the 2010 K-pop added a fun vibe, and overall the meat was okay quality. Would've love to have more choices for meat but for the price it was a bang for your buck!

Yelp
I love coming here. The service, food, and ambiance are all great, and it's an enjoyable experience every time. We always do the AYCE option. This includes meats, broth, and a few veggie options, some appetizers like corn cheese or scallion pancakes, and a few KBBQ options. All the meat has been fresh and tasty, and they offer a small assortment of veggies to complement. They have a sauce bar in the back, so you can help yourself to whatever you'd like. I prefer this setup to having to ask waiters for help, and it usually helps to stand up for a second between rounds! There are also a couple extra items you can grab, like mushrooms, spinach, or kimchi (speaking of which, their kimchi is super tasty and you need to try it). It's a little cold inside, but that isn't a problem once you start eating and the steam hovers around the table.

Yelp
We ordered a bunch of takeout from Hancook to be delivered. I tried mostly vegetarian dishes but a few that contained meat as well: - Vegetarian bibimbap: It was okay, more mild in flavor than most of their dishes but probably because it was heavy on vegetables. - Kimchi pancake: I thought these were quite good, very savory but also with a sour kick from the kimchi. - Japchae: The noodles were actually buried under a layer of beef (if I identified the dish correctly; we ordered many things) and they tasted really good due to the meat juice soaking into them.are qu - Ro se k-dduk: These were Korean rice cakes with what tasted like a mix of gochujang sauce mixed with something else creamy that made it lighter in color, and also contained fish cakes and a boiled egg. It was actually still quite spicy in spite of the creaminess. - Corn cheese: It was pretty good, had a lot of cheese. The quantity seemed small relative to other dishes, but it is an appetizer. I didn't eat the wings personally, but the others in my party liked the soy garlic the best. They also had the hot and sweet style which they said wasn't that spicy and actually reminded them of char siu. Overall, the food was all quite good, though some of their dishes (such as bossam) are quite pricy. They did include a box of banchan though.

Yelp
Ended up here like probably most people do...Moon Bong Ri's wait time was too long to deal with so we walked across the street to this place. Been wanting to try it so we got the chance. We were seated immediately (we beat the big crowds later) and ordered bossam, galbi tang and ro se (spicy tteokbokki). I thought the bossam was pretty good and a pretty big portion (only one size). The ratio of meat to fat was pretty good as each bite was perfect. It was served with the pink radish rather than lettuce which is what we prefer. The cool part is they have a buffet style bar where you can re-stock your garnishments and different sauces. The ro se was really spicy but really good. We would definitely come back for the bossam

Yelp
I have been here 2 times now. Once for lunch and dinner, both doing AYCE. Today we made a reservation to celebrate my sisters birthday. We all loved the food, enjoyed the variety, and left very satisfied. Our server was great. It was one gentlemen working the whole restaurant along with a bus boy. I asked everyone in our party, and they would all come back. Favorite Items: My niece loved the corn cheese, the soy garlic Korean friend chicken (it was actually the favorite of most of the table) and quail eggs. My mom loved the mussels and the spicy miso broth mixed with traditional. My sister enjoyed the variety of veggies, lobster & fish balls My brother enjoyed all the meats and KFC My favorite item to put in the pot is fish tofu There is something for everyone here. You won't leave disappointed. One thing that I would tell you to keep in mind. Parties of 5 or more will get charged a service fee, which is the tip. On top of tax, the bill becomes quite expensive. We did the premium AYCE, and ordered a bottle of Soju. The bill total came to be $225, including tax and tip the bill was $300. Which comes out to $50/person. When I came for lunch with a friend. We ordered a grilled dish, soju and makgeoli. I believe we each paid $60 tip. The service was great. Food was great. &we all left satisfied. The whole experience was worth the price. I would definitely come again and highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Service was amazing and attentive! Food came out pretty fast! We decided to do a la carte and ordered budae jjigae (9/10), rose tteokboki (10/10) and chicken wings (hot&spicy 8/10 and soy garlic 9/10). It was all super flavorful and I would come again to order it and try other items! The portions were also huge. The jjigae was packed with ingredients and the soup was amazing! The tteokbokki was cooked to perfection, it was definitely a tad bit spicy but I like it! I was surprised in how big it was even for a regular size and loved how it came with sausage, fish cake and egg! Forgot to add the cheese which I think would pair really well with it. The wings were packed with flavors too and super juicy! I really like the soy garlic as the garlic taste was strong

Yelp
Not my first hotpot experience but my first non-individual hotpot experience! The server was so kind and patient and helpful with helping select our options and sharing recommendations to us. It was a fun evening with the girls while enjoying delicious hot food to our taste. The food was super fresh and it was a fun laid back activity to do with friends you enjoy chatting with. We did the all you can eat and it was 100% worth it! I got udon noodles but the ramen looked really good too! I was too full to try the friend chicken but it's at the top of my list for next time!

Yelp
After picking up my daughter at the Oakland airport and driving home, we wanted to stop somewhere in the East Bay and get something to eat. We had the idea of Korean food and found this restaurant on yelp. It was perfect exactly what we wanted. We had hot pots with various meats and vegetables, noodles sauces, etc. it was really good. My daughter loved it and we are planning on coming back soon.

Yelp
Review is only for tofu soup. Soondubu was ok, but the soup lacked depth. Watched youtube and made my own.

Yelp
Hancook is a Korea restaurant in Oakland's 'Koreatown' Temescal neighborhood. They have an a la carte menu as well as all you can eat Korean Hot Pot and BBQ. 4.2 rating on Yelp, this restaurant has been on our hit list for a while. We came for a la care takeout. The menu is very extensive with a wide range of the usual Korean options along with some fancy dishes like Hancock Hansang, Shabu Shabu, Braised Beef short rib, Bossam. We ordered via Doordash and the food came on time. The food here is solid as is much of the Korean restaurants nearby. Variety is also wide ranging. Safety Pluses - Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering. Food Review Bibimbab ($20.95 Beef) Rice topped with freshly seasoned vegetables, fried egg is an above average version with lots of meat and toppings. 8/10 Kalbi ($42.95) is served with ssam is expensive but includes amble quantity and some tender and flavorful meat. Banchan is above average too. 8.5/10 Spicy K-DDUK rice cakes ($19.95) with fish cake, sausage, egg & green onion look super spicy but are not. A great dish for lovers of it. 8.5/10 Japchae ($16.95) Stir fried sweet potato glass noodles with beef (optional) and vegetables in bulgogi style sauce was just okay. Noodles were a bit on the tougher side. 7.5/10 Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Very Good Service - Good Value - Good Would we come back - Yes

Yelp
Oakland doesn't have a lot (or any ) hot pot restaurants so Hancook really makes up for it. We had shabu shabu for dinner with seafood pancake and the fried chicken on the side. Everything was delicious and the service was attentive. They always checked in and made sure everything was good. They also had a large pitcher of water for us at the table which I think is a nice touch so we don't have to keep asking for refills . We will definitely be back and make this one of our go to spots!

Yelp
$40 for AYCE with a range of meats, sides, and apps? Count me in! The ribeye and pork belly (and fried chicken app??) were especially good! Make sure to come with friends to maximize the options you can get from AYCE!

Yelp
Luckily we got seated quickly! The interior is clean and bright. Highlight for me was the Galbi tang - so flavorful, and not too oily. So comforting, I enjoy getting this dish when the weather is especially cold. Good set of banchan, the bulgogi bimbimbap was also very tasty. The beef was a nice cut- tender, not too sweet. Looking forward to coming back here to try the hotpot!

Yelp
This has become my favourite restaurant for hotpot. Get the AYCE, BBQ, fried chicken, and pancakes are included in the very reasonable price plus they make make the BBQ in the kitchen. Premium AYCE includes wagyu shoulder, it's worth it. When I'm on a budget I come here for the lunch price on a Friday. They have a self-serve sauce and veggie/porridge bar, sauces are definitely Korean and not Chinese style. The spicy tofu broth gets very spice as it boils down, tonkatsu broth is unexpectedly great. Beef short rib stew was yummy but pricy. Galbi Tang was pretty good, liked all their side dishes too. Pancakes are nice texture and fried chicken is fire. Waiting staff is friendly, parking can be sketchy given the area so be careful.

Yelp
Hancock replaced Sahn Maru a few years ago. in the beginning, they were a traditional looking Korean eatery. it's morphed into a bbq centric eatery with soju bottles as part of the decor. offerings: AYCE shabu shabu, noodle, soups, BBQ, special menu, appetizers, wings, rice, K Duk, booze, desserts...menu has evolved. most pics of menu on website are out of date. click on menu button to see latest. eats: shabu shabu for two (40): 2 broths, 1 meat, 2 sides -looked ok, choose rib eye, miso broth & traditional ,udon & quail egg -i didn't eat any of it. those who did were satisfied. short rib regular bbq (charged 45.95, listed as 41.95) -asked server if it was la galbi, she said it was. didn't look like it. -big plate, had lots of bony smoked grilled galbi, the smoke added another level of unami. ate it as a lettuce wrap with banchan, sauces & rice. *taste was extraordinary. banchan: -radish & regular kimchi, fish cake, spinach, bean sprout, another veggie. tasted ok, definitely previously made. -entire eatery had water on floor when it opened at 11. -self service bar for sauces, lettuce, veggies, spices, etc.

Yelp
I love that they offer both a la carte and AYCE options here. They have a unique selection of hot pot broths which I appreciate. There is also a self serve bar for vegetables and sauces. I love that appetizers are also included in the AYCE menu. The meat may not be the best quality but this place definitely hits the spot when you want hot pot. The service is also fantastic. We always feel taken care of when we go here. They are always playing kpop which is fun as well! It's definitely a chill and fun place to go with friends or family.

Yelp
Understaffed on V-Day was noticeable. But, once sat, good time. Broths were tasty, sauce bar was good, veggie bar could use some umph.. meat selection for regular was slightly above average. I guess premium is worth the extra.. HOWEVER.... walk or Lyft. Do not drive. Windows smashed on my ride and those on the same block, right in front of the restaurant on Telegraph. And, they took nothing. Just vandalism... Smash & Grabs will continue to destroy businesses in our cities until changes are made.

Yelp
Tried the hot and sweet boneless chicken absolutely a favorite will eat again ended up getting brisket with spicy broth and ramen noodles I didn't really enjoy the small lobster pieces but other than that everything was so so good . The service was good and attentive and the ambiance was so good and calm
