Love coming here at least once a summer. Delicious crabs with a beautiful view. If you are looking for AYCE crabs, this is the place to go to!
***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.***
Whenever I go, we always go for the AYCE crabs, which always seems to be the best option. However, when we went recently, we did some calculations and came to certain conclusions. Wanted to share this insight for your future reference.
-When we went, it was $42/person for AYCE (market price at that time). To get our money's worth, each person had to eat at least 13 crabs or more. I barely managed to eat 13.
-We probably could have gotten a dozen of the #2s or female crabs, which were $42/dozen and gotten more variety and female crabs tend to taste better.
-The problem with AYCE is also that you will often end up with the crabs at the bottom of the steamer, which means you'll get a lot of overcooked, mushy crabs. Obviously with AYCE, you could choose to not eat those while looking for a fresher one. I did find quite a few overcooked ones in our batch.
-Also, you start off with a big tub of crabs, so at first, everything is really good because they are piping hot, but after your first or second crab, you end up with cold crabs. This didn't bother me too much, but I know that this could be bothersome for some people.
-So, if you are able to eat a ton of crabs, AYCE is a great option, but if you think you will be eating less than 13 per person, it's better to get a few dozen and get better quality crabs, especially the female crabs. Or get the family style seafood bakes for more variety.
We also had other food and everything was good, such as:
-the poke bowl (if you don't like coconut, you might not like it because the rice is a bit coconutty and sweet, which is not authentic, but it was still good!)
-lobster mac-n-cheese
-shrimp and and scallop ceviche
-crab dip with tortilla chips
-all the sides are always good
Once seated, service is always quick, which is always a plus.
So, if you are looking for a quality crab feast, this is the place to come to. Be ready to relax and fill your belly with delicious crabs.
Tips:
-You have to wait to be seated and then once you have a seat, you order at the window and pay after you are done eating.
-If you want to order more food, you could do so at the window.
-Bummer that there are no free refills on soda.
-It's BYOB.
-Parking is a bit limited, but we always found parking inside their lot whenever we came.
-While waiting, it's always fun to check out their storefront for live crabs and maybe entertain your kids for 5 minutes.
-If you are coming later in the day, there are a lot of mosquitoes, so I suggest spraying yourself with bug spray beforehand. We always forget until we are getting bitten alive.
-There are always plenty of paper towels to clean your hands as you eat, but I always bring wet wipes with me so that I make less of a mess.
Bathroom Tip: There is one bathroom, all the way to the left of the order window. There is also a sink to wash your hands outside the bathroom if that's all that you need to do
