Yelp
3.65 stars - Fun concept. Food quality is ok, but lots of options to choose from! Some room for improvement as they just opened. Would come back again!
H&K used to be a dim sum spot, but as of 2 weeks ago, they now they offer AYCE hot pot, kbbq and karaoke instead!
*SPACE/VIBES*
It's spacious with high ceilings, and there are also karaoke rooms in the back and upstairs. (More on that later.) There are several screens projecting random food items, their karaoke rooms, and music videos. The music is eclectic. They played everything -- Ed Sheeran, EDM, Taylor Swift, 80s hits, kpop, etc. but I enjoyed the variety!
*PRICE*
The regular price is $30/pp
This includes hot pot or kbbq + appetizers + N/A drinks, alcoholic drinks are per consumption (see menu)
+$5 for both hot pot and kbbq
HH is from 3:30pm-5pm
$20 AYCE hot pot or kbbq
*SERVICE*
- Despite what the signage indicates ("Wait here to be seated"), no one will come seat you, if you stand at the bottom of the ramp. Lol. Walk up towards the cashier.
- The service started off rocky but they eventually got into a better flow. After waiting for almost 10 mins at the bottom of the ramp, we also waited a while for someone to bring us a menu at our table so that we could order. However, once the grills were set and we started cooking, the staff was pretty quick to take away our dirty dishes and refill our soup. The rest is mostly self-serve, so that was easy.
- They constantly refilled the food trays at the stations
- There is a 90 min time limit, and they did keep track
*FOOD*
I love having options, but I feel like hot pot *and* kbbq can get overwhelming, especially in only 90 mins. Given that it was our first time here and only +$5/pp to do both, we decided to do it anyway! Lol. No regrets, but will likely just opt for hot pot next time, as the kbbq options were just okay. The quality wasn't the best. Some of the veggies and seafood were obviously previously frozen. The short rib marinade was decent, but I found the rest to be a bit bland. Again, at this price point, I am not too mad about it.
There are 4 main stations:
1. Main/At Table: Hot pot and/or kbbq propane grills
- If hot pot, pick your broth and meats on the menu. Get toppings, veggies and seafood from the raw bar
- If kbbq, head to the raw bar to get some meat
2. Appetizer/dessert/chef special: There's an assortment of foods that get rotated. Some options we tried: Cajun crawfish, salt & pepper shrimp, edamame, honey walnut shrimp, dumplings, seaweed salad, egg tart, mango sago, watermelon. Everything was tasty and worth trying, if you have the stomach real estate.
3. Sauce Bar: They have a small station with some basic sauces (garlic, scallions, cilantro, oyster, soy, sacha, chili, sesame sauce, etc)
4. N/A Drink Fridge: An assortment of Asian drinks - mostly sugary, but why hold back now?!
*KARAOKE*
For an additional $10/pp, you can cook, eat and karaoke all at the same time. They have 4 (?) karaoke rooms in the back, with capacities of 4-12 people, but there is also an additional upstairs space that hosts up to 30 people.
Super meated out after today, but I look forward to coming back again soon and trying more items. In the meantime, here are some recommendations I think would make for an even better customer experience:
- Move/change signage at entrance so people aren't waiting forever. We saw some other guests give up and leave due to the lack of service, while we were waiting.
- Expand your sauce selection (Soy bean paste, salt/pepper for kbbq. Maybe ponzu, so less salty than the rest?)
- Add some Korean banchan options, if you're going for kbbq
- Make sure to wash the lettuce thoroughly. I think they were just doing it too quickly, so there was still some dirt on the leaves
