Google
I probably should have realized from the name that this place specializes in hand rolls, but after checking reviews and photos that showed traditional sushi, I expected a bit more variety. To our surprise, they only offer cut sushi for takeout—everything else is hand rolls served at the bar. We were seated right away (though we arrived around 5:30 PM), and the atmosphere was sleek and modern. Just be aware that it’s a bar-only setup—there are no traditional tables. Service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and fast. We ordered two appetizers and two drinks. One of the drinks even came in a super cute fish-shaped glass, which was a fun touch. Overall, a great spot if you’re specifically looking for hand rolls and a more casual, bar-style experience.

Google
You should already be there. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was welcoming from the stay and intimate with your guests. I love the bar style set up. It was a joy seeing all the action. The hand rolls were amazing, sushi delicious, and appetizers were so good. Chef’s special was Chilean Sea Bass hand wraps and scallops, I had a few orders. The drinks were perfect. Hando’s staff are kind, courteous with a sense of urgency and a joy from entry to exit. I can’t wait to visit again.

Had a great evening at Hando! I loved that most everything was hand rolls so we had the opportunity to try a lot of the menu! All hand rolls were great and we had a hard time picking our favorite. Cocktails were delicious! Definitely recommend for a date night or a fun night out!

Google
Cool and casual sushi atmosphere. You eat at the counter and the staff is very laid back. This place is riding the new “sushi hand roll” trend, but they also have traditional sushi, sashimi, etc.. They have a large selection of unique drinks and a full bar. As a side note, they have a speak easy in the back of the restaurant that has a limited menu and stays open late. We were please to find out that they also have some great items to go. This place may become one of our “go to” take out sushi spots. My last picture is of our take out order.

Last time I came here was for Kanpai Club (the speakeasy) in the back but I was finally able to try the restaurant. My friend and I came in during lunch time so we were able to try their lunch course menu which is $21 each. We both got the handroll set that consisted of Spicy Tuna, yellowtail, and salmon (there are two other options that are listed in the menu). I got the curry croquette for the small plate option and my friend got the matchstick salad. As for appetizers (separate from the Prix Fixe Lunch), we ordered the Salmon Kama. Initially we were worried that it wouldn’t be enough but we were both quite full by the end so it’s definitely worth! Although the matchstick salad is a nice refreshing start to the meal, the curry croquette is delicious- perfectly fried with the savory rich curry sauce that everyone loves. As for the handrolls, they were all delicious- the salmon roll was our favorite! Speaking of salmon, the salmon kama was fantastic too. I will say there are a lot of bones so do be careful if you order this but it’s a great appetizer choice if you’re craving more fish. Aside from the delicious meal, the ambiance inside is nicely set up and the service was fantastic!

Google
I can eat five of the blue crab hand rolls. We came here for a late dinner and were seated right away. This is their second location and the space was bigger than the Heights location. Very modern and minimalistic interior. I opted for the 4 piece set but also wanted to add in the toro hand roll. The set comes with spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab, and fried oyster. The set option doesn't allow substitution so you can add in additional hand roll. I have always love the blue crab hand roll but the fried oyster was also really good. After 4 hand rolls, you will start getting full. I like that they give you a good amount of rice per hand roll so it doesn't overshadow the flavor. Service was friendly and quick. The seats are set up as bar style so may not be ideal for a group. They were nice to let us sit at the corner for our group of 6 so we could talk to each other. I'm glad Hando has opened in SB, it's a great addition.

Google
Hando was a cool sushi spot. Visited here during the lunch hour. The have plenty of parking. The venue was a little small and the menu was limited. Spent $19 for Handroll, chicken skewer, and pandried dumplings. I did not like the dumplings. I don't recommend that. 15$ for matcha drink. You should check it out. #LyndenTakesTheCity

Google
I had so much fun here!! The food was great and the service was even better. Everyone was so nice and explained everything to me since it was my first time. FYI: they won’t seat you unless your whole party is there, BUT! There’s an amazing speakeasy you can wait and grab a drink in. So fun!!! Plus the bartender was supppppperrrr fun and nice!! She’d be the reason why I’d go back :)

Yelp
Got takeout from here for lunch and it was super tasty! I ordered the chicken karage bento with a toro roll on the side and everything was super fresh and well packaged. The karage bento had chicken karage, rice, brussel sprouts, dumplings and a piece of castella cake. The karage had a light and savory batter, the dumplings had a cripsy sear, and the brussel sprouts were super tasty with what tasted like eel sauce and Japanese mayo on top! The castella cake was the perfect little sweet treat for the end of my meal. (8.5/10) The toro roll was also delicious and fresh despite getting it take out. Definitely as good as any other sushi place I've tried on bellaire Blvd. (7/10)

Yelp
Went here with the family. Was able to get a seat pretty quickly with 6 people in the party. We all ordered our food one by one. The hand rolls are made almost in front of you. Cooked food is made in the kitchen in the back. They serve you one hand roll at a time and make the next one once you finish your first one. To help space it out. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and had great flavor to them. The skewers (chicken and beef) were okay; it didn't come out hot off the grill; it felt like it was sitting on the table for 20 minutes because it was room temperature. The hand rolls were good and fresh but can add up since they don't really fill you up.

Yelp
First time trying Hando today. Intimate and neat spot for dinner with a speakeasy in the back. They have a large menu with a variety of different item. The food came out very fast. I've had a amount of hand rolls however this place would be my least favorite. Unfortunately, my biggest concern was the rice wasn't up to par with other sushi rice that I've had other handroll places. Handies Douzo is much more better in my opinion. The bright side to this place is speed, cocktails, and complimentary cake.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of the location in the Heights so I of course had to try this newer location. I went for the four hand roll set. The tuna was my favorite as per usual. Each roll was pretty good but I feel that the fish quality and freshness is better at the Heights location.

Yelp
This handroll bar has a beautiful interior with wooden accents and a very cool speakeasy, "Kanpai Club", inspired by Japanese subway stations. Unfortunately we didn't enjoy the food very much. We ordered: - 3 piece hand roll set (spicy tuna, salmon, blue crab) - Toro hand roll - Yellowtaill hand roll - Ocean trout hand roll - Unagi hand roll - Soft shell crab hand roll - Flounder ceviche hand roll - Uni bite - Yellowtail sashimi - Salmon sashimi - Brussel sprouts - Beef skewers - Lamb skewers - Scallop skewers - Green mussel skewers - Match painkiller - Everything's lychee keen We didn't really like anything that we ordered. We also noticed that the quality wasn't consistent, one of my hand rolls tasted much worse than my partner's even though we ordered the same thing. Service was fine, they serve the hand rolls one at a time to ensure the nori stays crispy.

Yelp
Had a great experience at this sushi spot! The service was excellent--the staff was attentive, caring, and really social, which made for a welcoming atmosphere. Parking was a breeze, which is always a bonus. I went during Houston Restaurant Week, and I thought the menu was well-priced for what I got. I tried the spiced chicken tsukune, spicy tuna, yellowtail, and salmon hand rolls, and I also added a toro hand roll to the order. The food was good and solid, fresh flavors but nothing particularly memorable or outstanding. Still, I enjoyed my meal and had a nice time overall.

Yelp
A fun experience! Went for lunch on a weekday with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the restaurant was mostly full. When you arrive, plenty of parking in the shopping center. You're directed to use the side door, which I didn't even know was there until I followed the arrows. My friend and I ordered some edamame, salmon kama (salmon cheek), and several hand rolls; the blue crab was one of our favorites! And the quality of all the food was top notch. This was my first trip to Hando and I am a fan of the bar concept; the entire restaurant is one large bar, which makes ordering and the service very seamless. As I saw in other reviews, they will only deliver one handroll at a time, but when they see you are ready, they will deliver your next one; you don't have to ask for it.

Yelp
Hando is a fantastic destination for sushi lovers and cocktail enthusiasts with the top-notch sushi with inventive drinks. Each piece you order is hand crafted with fresh ingredients and the nigiri and sashmini is always fresh and flavorful. The balance of textures and tastes in each bite is a true testament to the skill of those making the rolls. Drinks at Hando are also just as impressive with the cocktail menu featuring a range of fun and creative concoctions that pair perfectly with the sushi. The atmosphere is also lively and inviting, making for a great spot for both causal outings or special occasions. The staff is freidnly and knowledgeable, and always will provide recommendations. If you love sushi or just looking for a great place to enjoy some cocktails and a few light bites of sushi, Hando is a must try.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places I've been to in a while. My friend wanted to get to dinner before getting drinks and she chose this place after hearing great reviews. We had a great experience here. Everything we tried was DELICIOUS. The drinks were STRONG and the food came out super fast. The service was also phenomenal. They had a speakeasy in the back which was a nice touch. Definitely COMING BACK!

Yelp
Likes: In shopping center with lots of parking and other food options around. Small and intimate. Attentive staff. The chef stood right in front and as soon as I finished eating one roll, he put the next roll on my plate, while sushi rice was still nice and warm. Although the menu and options of rolls are not extensive, the items were tasty. Dislikes: Pricey for such small portions. Very, very cold inside. Bring a jacket and wear pants. The whole restaurant is one big bar, with bar stools which means if you're short, under 5'6, than you're feet are dangling the whole time. No likey! They have bag hooks, they should have also built in feet rests.

Yelp
I love hand rolls and always stop by a spot while in houston. this location is apparently newer and has a much larger space than the first location. it also happened to be restaurant week so my friend and I got the HRW lunch set which includes an appetizer and a 3 hand roll set. I got the potato croquette and the salmon, spicy tuna, and yellowtail set. everything was delicious and I was stuffed! the staff was so friendly and attentive. we came on a saturday for lunch and there wasn't a wait at all.

Yelp
Came here during happy hour that overlapped into early dinner time. I highly recommend coming during this time if you can! We splurged and got the Geso Karaage, Wasabi Shumai, and Curry Croquette. Geso Karaage - good crunchy batter, squid is tender Wasabi shumai - wasabi flavor definitely there to open your sinuses, juicy pork, good flavor Curry Croquette - loved the katsu breading, was very filling I got the 4 hand roll set. This was plenty of food considering we overdid it with appetizers since it was happy hour. The 4 set alone might not fill up the average person for dinner. I liked the first three and the final hand roll was the tempura shrimp. It was kind of an underwhelming end to the meal. I wish they would substitute the tempura shrimp hand roll with something a little more exciting to end the meal on a better note.

Yelp
Good place - came here for lunch and enjoyed it! Had the yellowtail sashimi ($8) which was fresh and delicious. The daikon and cabbage salad ($5) was paired with a soy vinaigrette though worked well. I had a crab hand roll and a spicy tuna handroll ($7 & $8). Liked the crab over the tuna. The interior is pretty bare bones and there is only counter seating but it works. Recommendable place with reasonable prices.

Yelp
Thrilled to have the second version of this restaurant in the neighborhood. If you've been to the Heights location, this is larger but with the same menu (obviously). Rolls, sides and Robata items are all good and recommended. Vegetarian options are sprinkled throughout for those wanting that choice. Tips: It's cold in here. Bring a jacket if you're susceptible. Also, don't skip on their attached bar Kanpai Club hidden behind a red door on the way to the bathroom. Tell JJ hello.

Yelp
Came here for happy hour after getting off work. The inside decor is simple yet elegant. Very rectangular shape with a long bar set up in the middle and seating around the outside edge. The staff was very attentive and helpful and always prompted that it was happy hour and last call for happy hour to make sure we got our orders in. We ordered the hand roll sets and the chefs made the hand rolls at the perfect speed and interval. They waited to make your next hand roll when you have finished your current one. We ordered a bottle of the kunizakari nigori sake to split between the 2 of us which was a good amount ~100mL each. And then got the sweet gin music which had Roku gin, lime and habanero garnished with a large shishito pepper in a fun puffer fish mug. Bartender even made the fish dance when he served it to me. The extra mile! For happy hr apps, we ordered the wasabi shumai x2, curry croquette, and Geso karaage. All the apps were a great portion for sharing. The shumai was juicy and well seasoned and the wasabi flavor shined but wasn't too overpowering. The croquettes were a bit heavy for our liking but the katsu breading was on point. The Geso karaage (fried squid) was so flaky and delicious! Easily could have ordered another. For our entrees we both got the 4 piece and 5 piece hand roll set respectively. We both got a spicy tuna hand roll which was SPICY! Way more than the typical spicy tuna which we actually liked. Very bold flavor profile. The yellowtail and salmon hand rolls were our 2nd favorite. The rice held together well for dipping in the soy sauce and the seaweed wrap had the perfect crisp and crumbled perfectly with each bite. The blue crab roll was another great selection and didn't taste too salty. Then finished with a fried oyster and shrimp katsu hand roll. The shrimp katsu was my least favorite unfortunately. But overall an amazing meal and we can't wait to come back and try the rest of their hand rolls!!

Yelp
I have yet to dine in at Hando, but I do order their three cut roll set to go, where they offer eight pieces of spicy tuna, salmon, and blue crab for only $19. This set is a good value, as the quality of the sushi is great and fills me up. This is perfect for when you just want simple sushi and don't have time to dine in. The brussels sprouts are also very flavorful and crispy, which I would recommend.

Yelp
I LOVE Hando! I used to go to the Heights location all the time - now I'll be here! It's right in my backyard. Service and the quality of the food is so good. Curated cocktail list and I think they have the best fish in Houston. My beef skewers were perfectly medium rare. This location is new and still in soft opening so they are still working out a few kinks but I plan to be a regular!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for happy hour on a Friday night. The prices were really good for the drinks and apps. The seating is bar style and they bring the hand rolls out as they make them. We both got the 4 hand roll set which was a good deal. Everything was delicious, the apps were hot and fresh and the fish and really good too. Service was great they came by multiple times to fill our waters. Definitely a great spot for some hand rolls!

Yelp
My 9 year old has asked me to post on his behalf, here goes it... If I could, I would rate this place 15 stars. It is the best sushi place I've had in a long time. I would like to recommend the Salmon Hand Roll with no sesame seeds. It's the best roll I've ever had.
google avatar

George L.

Yelp
In other words..."eh". Not really what was expected. It much food for the price. Didn't really get the whole seats at the counter thing, felt a little too close to my neighbor. The curry items did not seem to go with the sushi theme. Def threw me off. If you're really, really hurting for sushi, then give it a try. Just not my jam.
google avatar

Crystal W.

Yelp
Service was fairly quick. Everyone was nice. You can't really sit where you'd like to though. They were not busy & we asked for the corner but it's set for 3 people. (Even though later we saw 2 people get seated there). We were told that they bring out one order item at a time to ensure quality. Glad our kids weren't with us, they would starve between their orders. The softshell crab hand roll should not be a hand roll. Most of the filling came right out (didn't help the person who served it accidentally dropped it over the side). The salmon sashimi was good & fresh but thin and 3 small slices. The beef skewers were good and flavorful. The chicken skewers, well, they weren't cooked completely. Only the end pieces were eaten. I did enjoy the potstickers. Perfectly cooked. Soft on one side and crunchy (not burnt) on the other. They did lacked seasoning so definitely use the sauce that comes with them. The martini was just okay. Stick to what is popular there and I'm sure you can't go wrong. Hubs enjoyed his drink and it came in a cute fish cup. Would I go back? Maybe for a light lunch but definitely not for dinner; portions are too small for me.

Yelp
This place is fantastic addition to spring branch. Cocktails are half off during happy hour and the drinks are really really good! Food is fantastic the rolls are big and filling so you don't need too many rolls to fill up on. I love the ambience it reminds me of Japan. Very good value definitely recommend!
google avatar

Ricky T.

Yelp
Pretty neat concept with fantastic food that doesn't make you feel stuffed or bloated. Music and atmosphere was very hip with a good vibe that wasn't overbearing Handrolls were delicious and just the right portions. They have a wide range of Sake that will take some lifetimes to experience. Will definitely be back and can't wait!
google avatar

Yelp
I visited this place for dinner with high expectations based on the number of stars given but unfortunately, I was not impressed at all. I was expecting great sushi from the photos and reviews given but it was just a sushi bar-style setup which was different but not my cup of tea. The hand rolls although fresh were not very impressive since most of the main ingredients seemed overpowered by the amount of sushi rice added to the roll and little was left for the main ingredient, e.g. soft shell crab, etc. to burst your taste buds. If you're into hand rolls, try this place, but don't expect to be wowed! The service was great so that was a plus.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
The service was great! My favorite small plate were the brussels sprouts. The music was a little loud, but no big deal. I enjoyed what they were playing.
google avatar

Rebecca J.

Yelp
Had a great time at Hando! The food was amazing, service was good, and the ambiance was perfect. I went with 3 other friends and sitting together in the corner was perfect for us to still have conversations all together :) Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Mary Alice E.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Something different than the regular sushi place! Service was amazing. All the waitstaff served you not only the person that took your order! It's a small place and doesn't take reservations so either be patient or go early!

Jeniffer O.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and the sushi was yummy it taste fresh, the service was fast, cute and small place bar sitting type of sushi restaurant.
google avatar

Earl W.

Yelp
Awesome service and even better food, cocktail maker needs help we were waiting a long time between drinks, but not enough to knock off a star.
google avatar

Jo K.

Yelp
Rolls were small and overpriced. Brussels sprouts appetizer was *all leaves*. Let me repeat that, it was just chewy leaves with some flavorful bonito ribbons and the mayo-based sauce. At $19 for three small rolls, $11 for one small toro roll, and $7 for an ounce or two of leaves I felt ripped off by the end of our meal. And I say that having enjoyed the restaurants at either end of that shopping center multiple times. To-go order came with prepackaged ginger full of additives. For these prices I expected better. Karaage portion was fair and the only menu item I would reorder.
google avatar

William T.

Yelp
Salmon Kama, Scallop Skewer, Beef Skewer are delicious. Fried oyster and soft shell crab hand rolls were my favorite. The ocean trout, shrimp katsu, blue crab, and unagi handrolls were good too. They make each handroll one-by-one for you to eat before making the next one. Clean restaurant, nice atmosphere. Friendly, informative servers.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
We ordered to go but want to come in soon. We ordered wagyu gyoza, edamame, matchstick salad, chicken skewers, ocean trout hand rolls. All great! Can't wait to go in person.

Yelp
We have tried Hando in SB twice and both times were very pleased with the food quality and service. If you like fried goodness, Happy Hour is a must. We actually prefer the hand rolls. Our favorites are the Blue Crab and Salmon. Their drinks are more on the fruity side but all very refreshing. Always get great service when we are there!

Lilya G.

Yelp
The food is always good, and I always manage a great deal on my orders. Convenient location as well as top service!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place! They make the perfect handroll! Highly recommend the soft shell crab handroll and the yellow tail hand roll

Cary L.

Yelp
Better parking and less crowded than their Heights location. A regular staple and always good. Have to check out the Tokyo themed speakeasy in the back while you are there.
google avatar

Yelp
Highest quality sushi! Loved the blue crab, hand roll. Plus, the speak easy the have next door makes this place even better. I'll be coming back soon.

Yelp
Fried Oyster rolls are a favorite for my family. My family came with the owner's parents during soft opening and we came back again. I'd recommend this place if you have sushi cravings. Good food and vibes. Great service by the team.

Yelp
So happy Hando is in our backyard!! Fantastic food and service. Nice sushi spot for a date but they were also really friendly and welcoming to my two littles in the middle of the day. The ocean trout hand roll was delish and I got the 4 piece set. All tasty but yellowtail and fried oyster rolls were real highlights! Honestly I was so hungry during a late lunch that I inhaled everything and forgot to take pics! Next time! They also have a happy hour 3-6pm and the cocktails looked amazing!

Lauren A.

Yelp
So So good. Can't wait to go back. Nice to have top notch sushi in the neighborhood!!!!!!

Yelp
Tried Hando for dinner for the first time last night and was very happy I did. Loved everything from the concept the bar seating, the menu and the drink menu. The staff are behind a u-shaped bar serving drinks, sushi and hot small plates. The hand rolls are served 1 at a time which I really liked. Gives is a Tapas feel and allows you to really savor each bite as well as enjoy your drinks and good conversation. The food was very fresh and tasty. Highly recommend Hando for a fun evening and great food.

Yelp
Beef skewers delicious Made online order and was perfect on time Sushi portion is tiny

Yelp
Where to begin... I was not sure what to expect the first time I went so I held off doing a review after the first visit. Everything went SPLENDIDLY on that first trip.. Great food. OUTSTANDING service. Knowledgeable staff. I thought that because they were new that things would taper off and I could give a more factual review to those that wanted to know.... Months later now I have tried almost everything on the menu and I am completely sold.. What a great place for high quality food, great service, strong drinks, and just a great time in general. I have tried everything on the menu at this point and though I am a picky eater I have yet to try something that turned me off. This place is AWESOME. I'm used to eating sushi at Kuu regularly and though Hondo is not on the same level, they certainly have earned their place with regular, frequent visits at half the cost of a place like Kuu. I LOVE the specials and always allow them to bring me whatever special they have at the time. It allows a person like me with limited tastes to try new things each time. I have never been let down, and always want to come back and try more new things. Typically, I will eat some food on the serving side, and then head over to Kanpei (spelling?) for a refreshing beverage. On that side of the restaurant i have met Mandy who is the trainer for all of the new bar staff. She is superb. Never misses the mark. Since I don't know the drink menu that well I just tell her what I like in alcohol and let her make whatever she thinks I might like.. She has not missed the mark yet! She is so knowledgeable on where the various liquors are made, and how the various concoctions will work together that I trust her implicitly to make whatever she thinks I want to drink.. I think they call it "dealers choice". She has never let me down. What a FUN place to go for a first date, or even as a married couple, or even just a night out with friends, just to throw caution to the wind, and experience a great night. Whether you are looking for a place to have a formal dinner, or just snack a bit, THIS IS THE PLACE. If you are on the fence about trying out a new spot-do not hesitate as you will be missing out on a great spot. If you go for food-take a minute after your meal to head back to Kanpei as it's geared towards a little more romantic setting where you can actually talk to each other without loud music interfering with your conversation. It's intimate. It's quiet. It's just the place you want to be to get to know the person you invited, or brought, with you, better. I have had so many great memories in this place that I can't remember what I was doing, or where I was going, before they opened this location. Go see Mandy if you have a chance.. She will make a memorable night for you-I promise. If she is not working that night-just know she trained the people that are serving you and you are in good hands. LOVE HONDO! Give it a shot if you have not already. I don't know of any other places where everyone is as friendly, and just wants to have a good time, and good night.

Yelp
Great food and drinks. They will not seat you until your whole party is there, even if it's just 2 people so keep that in mind.

Yelp
We love Hando. It's great in person or to go. So glad they've added another location in Spring Branch!

Yelp
Fantastic place. Lovely servers and perfect ambiance. Groovy music attentuated to the match our energy as we were served drinks, handrolls and the notorious brussel sprouts dish which was an excellent appetizer. The skewered beef was excellent. Plentiful parking for cars and a nice front space area for sports bike parking and remember to enter from the right which is a covered hallway. See you soon Hando!
