Where to Find the Best Bagels in Nashville - Eater Nashville

"The new New York–style bagel shop in Midtown comes from New Jersey-born Hector Sanchez, who has over 40 years of experience in the bagel business. Sanchez serves up real-deal hand-rolled bagels plus fried Taylor ham (or pork roll, depending on who you ask) breakfast sandwiches. Sanchez uses high-gluten flour to give his bagels proper elasticity, then adds sugar, yeast, and water before leaving them to proof overnight, and then boiled fresh for optimal chewiness" - Delia Jo Ramsey

These bagels are soft, light, full of flavor. Got an egg, sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich which was elegant. The light fluffy egg with the saltiness from the sausage and provolone on top of an everything seasoned bagel was the perfect combination of savory which makes your mouth instantly water. The shop owner from New York was super nice and so were the other staff. Bringing a little bit of New York to Nashville with this bagel recipe definitely makes you feel like you’re in the big city. The shop was nice, bright, clean and had some really cool art. I would 100% come back to try the other bagels and menu items. 10/10

Google
The breakfast we had here was the best on our trip, The bagels were super fresh, and the eggs were delicious. Also, I got the salmon with cream cheese just amazing. If you're looking for a great experience and great breakfast, this hipster bagel place is for you.

Google
Best bagels and egg sandwich I’ve had since I left NY 20+ years ago. If you like your eggs over easy they’ll put your sandwich in a box with and pre-cut your bagel before assembling the two eggs so the egg doesn’t run until you bite into it. The bagels have a nice crust on the outside and are chewy on the inside and they’re huge. The service is too notch. The place itself is nothing to write home about if you choose to dine inside. The coffee was hot and fresh. We took our bagels to go and ate outside at our hotel. Definitely make a stop here if you’re looking for a good breakfast sandwich and the best bagels.

Google
Delicious NYC style bagels in Nashville. Service was friendly and fast, they validated parking, the bagels were delicious, and the coffee excellent. Lots of hot sauce varieties available.

Google
There is no way you should NOT try this place. Simply awesome. Had various bagels they were all fresh and the eggs were fresh.

Google
The bagels here are ginormous, like I’m not sure if the picture even captures it but these things were huge. And it was one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. The shell on the outside was hard yet the inside was so fluffy and pillowy. I also got a small coffee and it’s self serve style. They give you the cup and at the coffee bar there’s two options of medium or dark roast coffee. They have a variety of creamers, sugars, and milks (non-dairy options included) as well. There’s so many bagel options that it’s hard to choose, but I’ll definitely be back to try out different bagel combos!

Google
Amid the evolving culinary landscape of Nashville, finding an establishment that serves authentic New York-style bagels felt like unearthing a culinary gem. The staff at this joint exuded patience and expertise as they walked us through an array of options. Our final selections—a timeless New Yorker and a flavor-packed Cuban—were not only delicious but surprisingly satiating, offering a nutritious start to our day. What further elevates this eatery is the versatility it offers: the option to choose from various types of bagels as the base, effectively multiplying the potential flavor combinations into the dozens. Given the tasty experience, it's as clear as an everything bagel why this place is a local hit.

Google
Best bagel in nashville! Being from NJ I’m very picky about bagels. We love going to H&S and their quality of service is top notch!

Yelp
DELICIOUS BAGELS, EFFICIENT OPERATIONS Came here for a breakfast bagel before catching a flight home, I was a little concerned I would have enough time when I saw the long line, however, I decided to stay and try it. The ordering process was quick and the person taking orders moved quickly through the line and the wait time was not very long to get my bagel with egg and cheese. Quite delicious, pleased with my experience.

Yelp
They offer good bagels which are quite large in size. I tried the Nox sandwich and just chives cream cheese sandwich. I must say they have great cream cheese, as they make their own batch. The cafe is super busy and often crowded with students , but it i s very economical. The team at H&S Bagel is very friendly and approachable. They have a very quick service although one might come across a que to order the bagels. It is great breakfast place, i definitely recommend it.

Yelp
I love the Taylor ham, egg, & cheese sandwich. The bagels themselves are chewy but it works for the hot sandwich I guess. Recently just went with a lox sandwich and am so frustrated. The order: lox on a toasted wheat bagel with heavy chive cc. think it's crazy to charge extra for chive (I personally don't believe it to be "specialty"). I asked for heavy cream cheese on the pricey sandwich, and was charged another $1. Just to open the sandwich to find a very standard amount on a raw bagel.. So now I've paid almost $2 more than the standard and it was subpar at best. And it's not like I had a choice-you order from one guy who never told me about the upcharges and then pay once the sandwich is ready. Watch out for upcharges. Maybe only get a hot sandwich? Don't deviate from the menu. Or just try another bagel place.

Yelp
As good a bagel as you'll find in NYC. Big, plump, exquisitely crunchy on the outside and chewy in the middle. Very generous schmear of flavored cream cheese. Friendly staff, quick service. Plenty of seats, and a very active to-go business. One point off for not toasting even tho toasting was ordered. No reflection on the quality of the food.

Yelp
Came here to fuel up before a road trip! The bagels were delicious and so fresh tasting. We also tried the bagel chips and loved them. My only minor complaint is that the workers expected us to know what we wanted the second we walked in... we asked for a second to read the menu and it wasn't well received. The coffee was self serve and was so fresh and yummy. Lots of seating inside and free wifi!

Yelp
Exactly what you want from a Bagel Shop. Fast service, good food, hot coffee, and plenty of indoor seating. H&S Bagels delivers everything g you want from a bagel shop. A bagel with cream cheese is only $3.50 and a small coffee is $3.00. They also have a case of cold drinks, including bottled water, but there's no other water available, which is a bit disappointing. The restaurant is clean and the food is good. This is a good place to stop for a bagel.

Yelp
First time here, as it was directly across the street from my hotel. Was needing a small breakfast. And I havent had a bagel sandwich in a minute, as the kids say. You order at the counter, as a gentleman takes your order. They make it, bag it, and then you pay. The flow of the line could improve. The food was just ok for me. I got a taylor ham, egg & cheese on a garlic bagel. The ingredients were fine. The bagel, which was not lacking any garlic flavor, was a little too chewy for me. You can get it toasted or not. I asked for it toasted. Maybe it could have been toasted longer? It was what I needed, though, to get me through the morning. Not sure if there were any condiments available. Perhaps some mayo or mustard could have added more. It came out to $9.91 with tax. The cream cheese in the cases looked really good. So next time, i might just get a bagel with cream cheese.

Yelp
Favorite bagel spot in Nashville! Quick and friendly service, lots of seating and great ambience. We ordered everything bagels with honey feta cream cheese and sausage/egg/cheese. Super fresh and filling!
google avatar

Julian R.

Yelp
I had exceptional customer service here! The cashier was kind, patient, and very informative. It was a very welcoming environment. I ordered the classic New Yorker. It was a bagel topped with cream cheese, sliced lox (smoked salmon), tomatoes, capers, and onions. There is a lot of bread to eat so you will definitely be full! The sandwich was yummy though a bit salty. I also ordered a cup of coffee and they had non dairy creamers to choose from which was a nice touch. The inside is clean and bright. The only downside may be is finding free parking nearby. I was able to find a spot pretty quickly tho. I would try this place again, but I would get a bagel without sesame seeds on top.

Yelp
Over the year this place has really grown on me! My favorite part about this place is their eggs. They are perfectly cooked, not dry, and folded. After trying multiple other places in Nashville I have decided these are my favorite classic bagels, meaning a meat, cheese, and egg. I wouldn't recommend ordering anything different.
google avatar

Maria-Elena T.

Yelp
I got the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich in a toasted everything nagel. I also got a bottle of OJ from the fridge. Bagel chewy. Flavor good. I forgot to say crispy bacon. And it was definitely lightly toasted.
google avatar

Craig J.

Yelp
Quick service, I got a very basic bagel and ran out to a meeting. I'll absolutely go back when I can spend time and enjoy the gourmet side of the menu.

Yelp
A group of my friends were staying at the Placemakr Music Row across the street and we got takeout for breakfast from H&S one morning. There were 5 of us and we also got some bagels and cream cheese to go. The order was ready fairly quickly and was so delicious! I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese bagel on the sesame bagel. A winning combination! I could have shared it with someone it was almost too big to eat alone. Only regret was the lack of cheddar.
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
A great little spot! It's kind of tucked away - we only found it because it was within walking distance of our hotel. I'm so glad we did find it because it was delicious! They have fresh New York style bagels and some really unique cream cheese flavors, as well as sandwiches. I got a toasted blueberry bagel with the lemon zest cream cheese. The bagel was great, but the lemon zest cream cheese was the star of the show. It was AMAZING. It tasted like a dessert. Soooo tangy and delicious. I can't recommend it enough! It was very filling as well.
google avatar

Jacey H.

Yelp
It was delicious, it was pretty busy so we were very excited. The bagels were great, but there wasn't as much stuff on the breakfast sandwich for the price. It was about $8 per person, so we just were expecting more. It was a great spot though!
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
It's hard to say much about a good bacon, egg and cheese bagel other than I was very happy with my choice! My only complaint was a little too much pepper on the egg and the coffee was not very good in my opinion. My friends got a sausage, egg and cheese on bagels and they both like theirs! It's a cool little spot, good bagels, Definitely a place worth going if you're into breakfast sandwiches
google avatar

Alexie A.

Yelp
Coming from NY/NJ these bagels are decent. I wouldn't say they do a bacon egg and cheese the NY way since the egg is like scrambled verse fried hard like one from the north east would be. Another thing is they overcharge for dumb things, got one bagel for later and they asked if we wanted it sliced said yes not thinking anything off it. Look at the receipt later to see they charge us for slicing the bagel in half.. and they didn't even cut it good lol
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
The bagel itself is really good! It's soft and chewy. next time i would get it extra toasted though. GREAT filling to bagel ratio, usually i take off the top of a bagel sandwich because there is too much bread but this one was awesome!! very efficient and have a good system down. nice inside! most people did not sit down and take it to go. kind of expensive and they don't give water cups. it was good but not life changing the lox bagel was yummy, i like less salmon in my lox sandwich so i really liked this one. if you want a lot of salmon on it you may not like it as much. bagel ratings: the classic new yorker (cream cheese and lox): 9.5/10 bacon egg and cheese on everything: 7/10

Yelp
Great bagel option in the midtown area of Nashville. Always a good morning stop. Will be back.
google avatar

Kristin P.

Yelp
The wonderful and kind staff has made this a repeat location of mine. The bagel is one of the best in the area and hits the spot each time without fail!
google avatar

Christina R.

Yelp
Solid spot for a fairly cheap and hefty breakfast sandwich. Their bagels are amazing-- super chewy and lots of flavor. Definitely fresh as well-- I watched an employee bake some as I ordered. I opted for the egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, delicious! The line moved fairly quickly, and employees were pleasant. Would go back if in the Midtown area.
google avatar

Hasti M.

Yelp
Bagels - amazing! Cream cheese - even better! I recently asked a native New Yorker where the best bagel in town is and he directed me to H&S. The bagels are huge! and so fresh. I've tried and classic and chives cream cheese and they're both so good. They're very generous with the portions, the line moves quickly, and the staff are the friendliest.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bagel overall with friendly staff & quick service. I would rate it 4.5/5 because I think Proper Bagel edges them out ever so slightly in terms of the quality of the bagel. I do, however, appreciate that the prices here are better! I ordered The Classic New Yorker on an everything bagel & it was good. The smoked salmon was fantastic & super fresh. I wish the bagel had slightly more seasoning on it but it was good nonetheless. Bagel was firm on the outside with a solid chew on the interior & wasn't too bready, but im going to give a slight edge in terms of texture & chew to the bagels from Proper Bagel. Parking is tough in this part of town so good luck finding street parking or paying to park. Overall, this bagel is better than the majority that you'll find in Nashville, & I definitely recommend giving them a try!
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
If you're looking for a New York style bagel in Nashville then this is the place. The bagel was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and they are not stingy with the cream cheese filling. You could tell the bagel was made fresh and was the perfect start to our morning. The staff was friendly and they made the orders quick despite the morning rush that occurs around 10AM every morning. The coffee wasn't great but the bagels made up for it.
google avatar

Kelsey G.

Yelp
Best bagel I've had in a while! They open early and have a lot of different options of bagels and cream cheese. Highly recommend
google avatar

Jill B.

Yelp
Maybe it was an off day but we asked for our bagels toasted and they weren't, and the sandwiches we ordered were just ok. The food came out quickly. They had plenty of seating and wifi if you needed to work.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
H&S bagels are not great -- still on my hunt for good NY bagels in Nash! Also we had to pay to park.
google avatar

Jaymes-Wynton K.

Yelp
Fantastic service and impeccable bagels, soft and fresh, I came back almost every morning of my trip.
google avatar

T S.

Yelp
Delicious fluffy bagels and fast, friendly service. Egg and cheese & Classic New Yorker sandwiches taken to go tasted fresh.
google avatar

Arthur B.

Yelp
Best bagels in Nashville! Definitely the place to get a bagel or a bagel sandwich! Bagels made on site! Owner was working in the shop!
google avatar

Raegan B.

Yelp
Fantastic bagels, perfect amount of cream cheese, very quick service. Can't ask for much else!
google avatar

Mariam M.

Yelp
Honestly very very mid. Something was just off about the bagel itself. The service was average and same goes for the ambiance.
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
Pretty good. The order taker was patient and polite. We got the bacon/egg/cheese toasted bagel. Bagel was great tasting , but a little bit too tall. Lots of dough. Tend to like the smaller size. The cashier could get a job as an auctioneer. She talked so fast, she could recite the Gettysburg address in 7 seconds flat! Good but not great bagels, not like NY like they say but good for Tennessee. Cold as NY in the restaurant, where was the heat? Wanted to like this place, but we thought it was just average. Still a lot better than the chain Bagel restaurants.Egg and very little cheese really had almost no flavor.
google avatar

Christina B.

Yelp
As a Jersey girl this is the only place I'll get a bagel in Nashville! I am convinced this is the only deli in this city that runs as quickly and efficiently as a NY/NJ spot, even when the line is long they keep it moving and you'll have hot and fresh food in good time. The bagels are just perfect, you have to try them. And my vegan friends love the tofu "cream cheese." Go check it out!
google avatar

J E.

Yelp
While staying in a nearby hotel I came here for a bagel sandwich for breakfast. They were moderately busy when I came in. They offer Boarshead meats here. I chose a sausage, egg and cheese on pumpernickel. It took about 10 mins for the sandwich to be made and when it came out, it was perfectly prepared with a perfectly cooked egg. The sausage was very tasty and the bagel itself was huge! It was thick and toasted just perfectly and very tasty. The staff is moderately friendly; the cashier was very friendly, but the person taking orders didn't seems like she was too happy to be there. I'd definitely return for a bagel in the future!
google avatar

Marc W.

Yelp
I can't give out 5 stars here but I would go a solid 4.5. As a Jersey guy this bagel place covered the bases. The menu had everything you needed. The bagels were very good and the staff had it down. I would and will return. The only thing that made me skip a 5 star was the lack of toppings in my opinion. I like my onion bagels with lots of onions and everything should have plenty of toppings. Our bagels were a little sparse on the toppings. But very good.
google avatar

Lana B.

Yelp
Delicious! Went around 10 am and they still had most their bagel options left. I have had nothing but friendly service at H&S bagels. When you order a drip coffee, there is a small fridge with creamers- milk alternatives available, and sugar. A make your own coffee bar. Basic, but gets the job done.
google avatar

Madeline J.

Yelp
My second trip to H&S Bagels when traveling to Nashville! The bagels are fluffy and delicious. I love the various selections of bagels and cream cheeses. The service is quick and friendly as well. Great place to stop if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow ... just wow. Saturday morning - lined up (but moves real fast). As we waited in line the bagels were rolling out of the oven and we had to start with a hot plain bagel -- that is always my taste test of the difference between a good bagel and a great bagel. This one had crispy crust on outside, chewy on the inside with a nice bread like taste -- really great bagel! Wifey and I decided to add on a Pastrami on toasted everything bagel + brown mustard, lettuce, tomato -- this is where the WOW came in: again bagel was great, crunchy, and with the big stack of Boar's Head pastrami added on it was a huge sandwich. We split one and both were full when finished. Oh and price wise under $8.00 for that sandwich vs $12-13 at another bagel shop by Belmont. Add in great service and H & S is an easy 5* visit!
google avatar

Eileen C.

Yelp
So good. I forgot how amazing a good bagel with cream cheese, lox, tomatoes and capers is. I free up in queens and lived in Manhattan til about 15 years ago and have been suffering in a bagel desert for the last 15 years. I had been hesitant to try h and s as it is in sort of a difficult spot to park but so glad I did. And they should advertise that they validate for the garage next door. Will be back ( I am under orders from my children that I no longer bring them Bruegger's ) Also should add everyone was lovely in the store
google avatar

Austin n.

Yelp
Unfriendly service but great bagels! Did a bagel sandwich and it was huge and filling.
google avatar

Cynthia B.

Yelp
FRESH! Popular amongst tourists students workers. Fast service. Great location. Usually room for seating

Thomas J.

Yelp
The workers and atmosphere are great, but the food is mid. I'm a Jew who knows bagels and man these are the blandest most uninteresting bagels I've ever had. Cream cheese taste store bought, nothing id go out of my way for. Id pass, better bagel shops in the area.
google avatar

Cara M.

Yelp
My sausage and egg on an everything bagel was so good that I came back another day of my trip to have the same thing. Staff are quick and helpful, and the bagels are amazing.

Monica M.

Yelp
Delicious bacon, egg and cheese bagel sandwich! You can taste the freshness of the bagel. Loved!
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
This place is almost always kind of empty, so it's really quiet and the place is really cute. The service is really nice but they take a lot of time in the orders compared to my other bagel experiences. The price is really really good, and the bagel is packed, but I wish that the bagel were softer, which would make it easier to eat. Would recommend!

Tony P.

Yelp
Great little bagel spot in Nashville! I like the staff and how's its somewhat NY styled. The bagels can be a kit or miss. Sometimes they are a bit more salty than my liking (everything bagels) but sometimes they can be good. All and all, a decent little spot in Nashville for Bagels!
google avatar

Christell S.

Yelp
Best coffee and breakfast we had in Nashville!!!! Bagels are perfectly made. It is not greasy, eggs are fluffy, bacon is tasty, coffee is tasty dark roast!!!!
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
These are probably the best bagels in Nashville, along with proper bagel. Hey, they have pumpernickel! I just took a trip to New York City and got bagels there, and I must say that the bagels here are just as good, if not better. They are big, too. The line to get bagels was long, but it was worth it. The people working there are friendly. I am looking forward to trying the breakfast sandwiches there. I just got a baker's dozen bagels to take home, so I have not tried the menu items. The place feels pleasant, but I did not sit down and eat there, so take my opinion for what it is worth. The only real issue is that parking is not easy around that place. I will be back as soon as I have a chance!
