Santa Rosa’s all-day dim sum staple with Cantonese comforts and a loyal local crowd. Covered by the Press Democrat and Sonoma Magazine, it’s where to order har gow, rice noodle rolls, roast duck, and a pot of jasmine tea.

Google
Christmas Eve Chinese food. It was the right combination at the right place! We got there right before they opened at five and were seated very quickly. Everybody sat down at the same time so it took a little patience when they first open, but it was well worth the wait which was minimal and gave us time to really look at the menu which was huge. The place was very clean , weight staff was delightful and very efficient. I ended up eating just appetizers and it was so much I was stuffed ! The rest of the table ordered different types of dim sum and main course entrées all of which were fantastic.

Google
I've eaten here multiple times- as well as ordering take out. IMO Hang Ah offers the most authentic Chinese cuisine in the area. Regarding the take out experience, I appreciate that they package sauces separately from crispy dishes (like lemon chicken and crispy noodles) so that the food isn't soggy when served at home.

Google
Excellent dim sum and lunch specials. They have fresh sesame balls! All the dim sum is a s good as you get in San Francisco. Fresh and tasty.

Google
Obviously 5 star for here. hall was packed even in normal weekday. first of all i was shocked by volume of the food😲 me and my fren didn't even able to finish the food and take out the remaining😜 taste of food was good and authentic as far as i know👍 within 20 to 25 bucks u'll be unbelievably stomach full👍

Google
In Sonoma County this is THE only place to get Dim Sum. The quality is comparable to the city (definitely worth not driving all the way there from Santa Rosa). Notable delicious items: Har Gow Sticky rice in lotus leaf Bean curd skin roll in broth Chive shrimp dumpling Shu Mai w/ dice mushroom Pork and Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll w/ BBQ Pork Crispy Glutinous Puff (personal fave) We don't normally order the baked or steamed buns but they're decent as well. Staff is friendly and courteous. Closed on Tuesdays I believe. Update 3/16/25 still bomb. They are going on vacation for a month from March 18-April 15.

Google
Food was authentic Chinese with an extensive menu. We were there on a Tuesday night. They were serving Dim Sum. I was expecting the traditional dim sum carts, however, it was "order from dim sum menu and waiter bring to your table' kind. But the food was good. This place has been here for quite a long time so quality and consistency is still there.

Google
Husband and I had an awesome lunch, baked BBQ pork buns, sesame balls, crispy spring rolls, BBQ pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. All were cooked perfectly, fresh and flavorful. Service was prompt and polite even though the tables were full.

Yelp
Time for some dim sum! When we arrived on this Thursday afternoon, the restaurant was pretty full. There was a large group of 11 sitting in the middle and other diners throughout the dining room but everything was handled promptly and efficiently like usual. We ordered: Shu mai Pork ribs in black bean sauce Har gow (shrimp dumplings) Shrimp stuffed eggplant Pea shoots (off regular menu) Hong Kong style chow mein with chicken (thin crispy noodles) Egg custard buns Everything came out steaming hot and it was hard to say which dish was our favorite because everything tasted so good. We have leftovers for tomorrow too! The new item we tried was the egg custard buns. They were light and springy and had a very delicate filling. We enjoyed them and would order again. We have been coming here for several years and the hard-working staff has not changed. Parking can be tight at times but they do have their own parking lot.

Yelp
We ordered take out on Saturday night from here, I was impressed by some of the food. The quality was good but still greasy. We enjoyed the 3 out of 6 dishes and everything was correct when we got home. Portion sizes were decent but would be bigger if we ate there. 3 dishes fell hard: The broccoli beef was way too soft & slimy they over cooked it. The crab puff rangoon was bad, not enough filling and the wrong shape, bland flavor with no taste of crab or cream cheese it was not seasoned. Walnut prawns were not fried and the sauce was just thick and not properly done, it tasted too much like mayo it was underwhelming for being the most expensive item. They are good but can improve, overall decent food. Cannot speak to service or ambiance. I would return to try other items.

Yelp
This is your average local Chinese restaurant with great food! Right off the freeway and easy access. Lots of parking and I was able to get food to go. I do think this place would have been better if I ate in. They do not really have a system for phone pickups. I went in and they don't have a counter, and no bag or sauces supplied to me when picking up. It is definitely more set up to come in and dine in. The food was average and tasty. Though meat tasted a little fishy. I would come back here and try something else as it was not bad at all. I got the lunch special with Mongolian beef and I was a little disappointed on the sizing, especially if I was paying $16 for this. Went mid day on a Saturday and they were not too busy and took about 20 minutes for phone order to be ready.

Yelp
Dropped in for a takeout order of dim sum. Absolutely the best I've had outside of SF Chinatown. We will definitely be checking out the entire menu. Reasonably priced and good portion size.

Yelp
We love coming here for some delicious dim sum and Chinese food!!! Definitely my favorite spot for Chinese food! The food never disappoints and you always end up, leaving with an extra meal for later because they're their serving sizes are so large since it's family style. This time it wasn't too busy, but even when they are busy, the service is very friendly and quick. Growing up getting Chinese food with the family was always a special meal for me so I'm trying to keep the tradition going with my wife and our little one.

Yelp
I have driven by this restaurant for decades and finally stopped in for Lunar New Year. It was amazing. The decor is nice and service is great. We had har gow, siu mai, rice flour dumplings, and chive dumplings. So good! It's not super cheap - two of us ordered 4 plates and it was $34. We had hot tea. I'll keep coming back now.

Yelp
The food is delicious and consistent. The servers are friendly and attentive. A nice place to go once in a while if you're looking for good dim sum and don't want to travel to San Francisco. I feel like every review I post now mentions that prices have gone up. Well, prices have gone up here too.

Yelp
Dim sum house- tastefully delicious. We loved the bbq pork bun as it's fluffy and packed with seasoned to the taste BBQ pork. The bun itself I would explain it as a senorita bread stuffed with meat! Those of you know what senorita bread is, knows how good and addicting those things can be! Now u can get it in a elevated experience! Everything else was great, all the servers were very attentive. Easy private parking lot. The establishment is a bit dated, but as long as the food is hitting. Well be coming bk for more. Thank you!

Yelp
Best Chinese place in town. My family's go to, staff is welcoming, food is delicious, always busy but is a quick turnaround. Ambiance is always lively.

Yelp
The podiatrist I use to work with turned me on to this restaurant and I have been coming ever since, thanks Dr. Jan you're the best. I ordered the Mandarin Triple Crown with some Imperial egg rolls. I ate slowly to savor every moment. The Mandarin Triple Crown was spicy but not too spicy, I loved it, as well as the Imperial Egg Rolls. The staff are very kind and accommodating. I shall return soon this restaurant is in my neck of the woods. Yassssss!!!!

Yelp
The dim sum is top rate. Very authentic HK flavors and textures, steamed to perfection and good quality ingredients. Maybe a tiny bit stingy with fillings in the baos, but honestly, that's better than being overfilled with cheap ingredients. Their potsticker was sub-par however. But we'll definitely be back for the dim sum.

Yelp
Came here with a friend for dinner after work to try some dim sum. I didn't have any expectations going in, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. The restaurant was well-organized, and I liked the menu system where you circle the items you want. The food came out fairly quickly and was mediocre for dim sum. However, the service was not great. The staff seemed rushed and somewhat rude, pushing us to order quickly and bringing the bill before we were even finished eating. Overall, the food was just okay, but the experience felt a little rushed.

Dawn C.

Yelp
yummy fare and great service... absolutely my fave dim sum spot in Sonoma County! My friend and I went on a weeknight and it was bustling. Fortunately they also have a huge parking lot

Yelp
Santa Rosa standards: 5 stars SF bay area standards: 3.5 stars If this restaurant was in sf, it'd be a pretty decent Chinese place to eat, but since it's in Santa Rosa, where good Chinese food is hard to get, it's pretty freakn good. The best way to test how good a Chinese restaurant is to order off the menu and that's what we did with a wet stir fry beef with flat noodle. It was full of the right sauce - thick and oyster flavored. The noodles tasted fresh and cooked just right. Was also craving dim sum so we got fried daikon, crispy and soft inside; fried to perfection. Also got flat noodles with Chinese donut inside, a dish that's hard to find even in sf restaurants; it satisfied the craving. Fast service and clean. I'd definitely come back to this restaurant when I'm deep in Marin/Sonoma County.

Yelp
Came here on Christmas Day and it did not disappoint. The place was packed but the service was great, servers were crushing it and food was sooo fiiiiire! Def recommend the Hong Kong style noodles & dim sum. Huge fan of their sizzling rice soup too. The crispy daikon radish hash brown is wild! Don't skip hang ah if you want some authentic Chinese food near Santa Rosa.

Yelp
been coming here since they opened YEARS ago and honestly the quality has been up and down. but this time it is definitely a double thumbs up. I took my chinese relatives and they enjoyed all the dishes. Personally I think the taste is great! I hope this chef will stay here and keep cooking these dishes.

Yelp
Back for their lunch special. Same fast friendly service and consistent quality of food. Nice spot for a quick sit down lunch. Adding photos of their lunch special menu and soup served with lunch.

MexicanSugarSkull ..

Yelp
Excellent dim sum and Chinese spicy entrees. Best in Santa Rosa. Go early if you want the BBQ baked buns. Sell out early. All prices have gone up but not too much. The big entree dishes are great and feed an entire table.
google avatar

Kiana H.

Yelp
Went on a Friday during lunch. Ordered their lunch special that comes with soup and an entree plate. Portions are big, we all left with a box to go. Not overly aesthetic inside but food and service was amazing and reasonably priced around $16-$17. I'll definitely be back to try other items!

Yelp
I was just suggesting this place to a friend, and realized how old my review is. I want to update it, by saying HangAh is still excellent! I no longer live in Sonoma County. I live 3 hours away. Yet, still stop here when I visit friends in the area. Recently I stopped in for lunch, and the same wonderful family is still running the restaurant. The food is even better... if possible. And the service is great. I am craving their dim sum right now! Their menu is filled with so much to choose from, I try something new every single time I go. In the 9 years since my first review, I have always enjoyed dining here. When I am driving through Santa Rosa (from 3 hours away) and don't have time for a meal, I get dim sum to go for road snacks! Yummm

Yelp
It's convenient not to have to drive far, but this place has a few drawbacks. The biggest issue is the portion sizes --they're quite skimpy and they added a lot of filler or removed protein. The chive dumplings, for example, had less than one shrimp spread across four pieces, and they were much smaller than what I've had at other places. The wrappers were also thick and gummy. The ho fun was mostly bean sprouts with very few noodles, though the flavor was good. The rice rolls were also too thick. The pea shoots were decent, but overall, the meal was lacking. It's nice to have a local spot, but the quality needs improvement.

R K.

Yelp
We often ate at the original Hang Ah restaurant in San Francisco back in the late 1960's & early 70's. We moved to SR in 1973 and were floored when Hang Ah opened in the old AW building around 2008??? This is the best authentic SF style Chinese Dim Sum hands down in Santa Rosa. Their Cantonese style food is also, without a doubt, the best the city has to offer.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in town!! My partner and I have been on the hunt for delicious Chinese food and after so many misses, we finally found the one! The dim sum, chow mien, shrimp fried rice, and hunan beef were packed with authentic flavor and satisfied our craving. The price of the food was also not bad at all for how much we got!
google avatar

Yelp
Ambiance - we had reservations and thankfully we did. They were slammed on a Friday at 630. It seems as though they are short staffed. Be prepared to sit for awhile before anyone takes your order. No one acknowledges you not even for a drink order. We waited for about 25 minutes before we asked someone to come over and wait on us. We were ready to walk and we were a table of 6. When we explained to them that we've been sitting here for a good half hour without any acknowledgment, his response was "we're very busy." We asked for more napkins and never received. Food - the food was decent. Good flavoring for the dishes. After a while the sweet over took the sour and it was too much. Drown it with rice. The wontons in the soup had great taste. Call and pick up for next time

Yelp
We've been coming here for many years. I was happy to see new carpet since our last visit. My family came here for Mother's Day. I was out of town so missed the party. It's really fun to come with a group of people and order as many different dim sum dishes as you can. There's always something for everyone. One of my favorite dishes here is the sticky rice. Sometimes I just eat the outside but sometimes I want everything in the filling. Today was the first time I had baked bbq pork buns. They were delicious. Eggplant stuffed with shrimp. Stir fried soy sauce noodles pretty good but be warned, very, very oily. As was the eggplant. I'm sure we'll be back. After it's been close to two decades we've been dining here. If you love dim sum and pressed for time to drive to the city this is the place.

Yelp
Added a star for their serving staff improvement. Many years ago, the first time I came in, the staff barely spoke English and the ordering was a lot more chaotic. Now ordering is smoother and goes to the correct table. The staff's communication and service is much improved! I recommend the lunch specials they have. It comes with sweet and sour soup that has mushrooms and bamboo. I prefer the choice of the fried rice over chow mien.

Yelp
As of the writing of this review, Hang Ah is the ONLY dim sum restaurant in all of North Bay. That includes Marin, Santa Rosa, Sonoma etc. And the fact that it's actually quite decent, is amazing.Because, they could just be crap... considering they are the ONLY one. They are a standard dim sum place, and considering this is the only one, I'd say that's pretty good! I'm Cantonese, born in Hong Kong so, dim sum is my jam. And It tastes real and authentic here. I can't say it's the best in the world, so let's set our expectations. If you live in SF and are driving through from wine tasting in Sonoma, again... set your expectation. If you're like me, and you find yourself living in the North Bay, then thank the heavens for Hang Ah... because, there is one, at least one! And it's even pretty decent. Everything I've had tastes authentic and good. The turnip cake is one of my faves. It's pretty standard and smooth kind - it doesn't have chunks of turnip (like my mom does it), but quite pulverized. But I realized that that's all good because when it's pan fried with crispy edges and the inside seems to just melt in your mouth. Yum! Ha Gow, Siu Mai - the staples, all standard, what you'd expect. (And that's a good thing!) I always like to get the pan fried chive dumpling as well - skin is a bit thick, but pan fried to a good crisp. (It's the ONLY dim sum place in North Bay, so I can't complain!) The only thing slightly strange is the steamed bbq pork bun comes as a giant bun, rather than the standard smaller buns. But again... that's okay! It tastes pretty good. (Prefer it the other way, but again... can't complain) We've been here a few times and will continue to come here when I get the nostalgic crave. I do love the diversity of the clientele here. Considering it's North Bay, there is a mix of all sorts of people enjoying dim sum. And that makes me kinda proud to be Cantonese. Anyhow, I hope I've set your expectations.

Yelp
Best and pretty much the only dim sum in Sonoma County. Living in SoCal and the Bay Area where dim sum standards are high, we were happy to find a place to satisfy our cravings without driving an hour across the bridge. Prices are slightly higher, but the quality is excellent. Ordering is simply circling your favorites off a paper menu. No push carts but caters to all. At 1pm on a weekend, tables were full with Chinese and non-Chinese families. What to order: 1. Shrimp rice roll *Ha cheung fun* - MUST GET, one of the best. Large succulent shrimp wrapped tightly in a super silky rice roll to soak up that sweet soy sauce 2. Shrimp dumpling *Har gow* - generous shrimp without any fillers steamed in chewy tapioca skin. Usually the filling or the wrapper gets mushy, but not here! 3. Turnip cake *Lo bak gou* - dim sum staple equivalent to American hash browns. Nicely pan fried to a crisp without being soaked in oil 4. Bean curd roll *Fu pei geun* - tofu skin filled with glass noodles and vegetables like wood ear mushroom steamed in a savory sauce. Rarely found at dim sum places and done well here 5. Pork and shrimp dumpling *Siu mai* - another staple and my boyfriend's favorite 6. Shrimp stuffed eggplant *Yerng ke zi* - MUST GET because not all dim sum places will make it. My favorite fried eggplant stuffed with shrimp paste served sizzling hot over black bean sauce Private parking lot and quite a few people order takeout!

Yelp
This is usually our go to spot for dim sum but I'm pretty disappointed at the service. We ordered a lot and it was probably over an hour to get our food, we were pinched on time and since some of our food came, we asked to cancel the rest since it was a very long wait already, they refused and told us it was almost ready. We probably waited another 20 mins and again they told us it was almost ready, we had to wait for the food and pack it up to leave.

Yelp
Best Dim Sum you can get in North Bay. The braised Chicken feet (Phoenix feet), Chinese spare ribs, and selection of Bao make this an ideal Sunday spot for lunch/brunch.
google avatar

Emeline T.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I grabbed takeout for a weekday lunch and were pretty impressed! We got the siu mai, baked BBQ pork buns, crispy shrimp balls, turnip cake, and sticky rice. Everything pretty much tasted how I would expect it to, and I would get these items again. Some of the Asian food spots around here have been kinda hit or miss for me, so I'm glad there's a solid spot for dim sum in the area!

Lisa T.

Yelp
This is a wonderful Chinese dim sum place with tasty entrees as well. Four of us had hot and sour soup, fried glutinous crispy balls, pork ribs in black bean sauce, beef chow fun, eggplant in garlic sauce and Peking duck. Everything was delicious! Best Chinese food we've ever had.
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
Best authentic Chinese since I was 5 years old and my best friend Sulynn's family owned the best restaurant in Sac many moons ago!
google avatar

Susan D.

Yelp
I would give this a 4.5 or higher. Just not quite a five. I always think it's fun to try a bunch of different dim sum and then walk away stuffed. This place succeeded well in that regard. Perfectly, priced, good portions. Service was somewhat detached, but they got the food out efficiently. Some things were delicious, like the shrimp balls. Some needed a touch more seasoning to make the flavor pop. A fun night with good food.

Mark K.

Yelp
I am only rating this with four stars because five stars would hurt its reputation. I mean, with dim sum, if you rate it with five stars, people won't go because they'll think it's all service and not quality food. Nothing could be further than the truth! This is a FIVE STAR place where the staff is friendly, they are attentive, they make good recommendations, and they work hard to serve everyone well. The food is really good too -- baked buns are amazing, their chicken salad is really good too. Also every one of their steamed dumplings are amazingly good. You can taste the freshness in every bite. Oh and the place used to be an A&W, so the ambiance is PERFECT for a dim sum place.
google avatar

Maureen C.

Yelp
Ever since moving up to northern california, I've been searching for a dim sum place that resembles the food I've had in southern Cal and I'm happy to say that this is close enough. From dumplings to noodles to onion and turnip cakes, the more popular type of dim sum dishes are available. If you're looking for staff that's pushing the carts around to your table so you could choose dishes, this isn't the place. The staff has been accommodating enough and you get your food at a decent time, there's a decent lunch crowd and people who order take out. I brought mom, dad and the boyfriend who looked like a happy bear after eating lunch. I know if we ever have a craving then this is a place to come back to.
google avatar

Ellie S.

Yelp
We ordered the mandarin dinner for six, plus a few dumpling add ons, and everything was delicious! My favorites were the almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, bbq pork rice, and shrimp dumplings. We had plenty of leftovers as well. When we walked out missing something, an employee came running out after us, it was very kind! I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Hang Ah dim sum is the best Chinese food around. They have the best lunches at a good price. My favorite lunch is the Kung Po 3 combo with beef, shrimp, and scallops and chow mein. They are very consistent in their quality and the food is good. If you like dim sum they have a lot of different dishes to offer. Everything is cooked to order and served hot and fresh. I try to go at 11:00 or 1:00 because the place is usually packed at 12:00. The service is very good. As for the ambiance it tends to get crowded and noisy but It is what it is. Cooked fresh is way better than Panda Express, try it and it will be your favorite place too!
google avatar

Yelp
Omg, we finally found the most delicious Chinese food in Santa Rosa!! The duck is out of control! My boyfriend loves all of the dumplings. We have gotten take out and ate in the restaurant for the first time recently. It's so good.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
While you could drive all the way down to San Francisco to get dim sum, this is a great option for those in the Santa Rosa area to not have to drive too far. In a building that looks like a converted Pizza Hut, Hang Ah Dim Sum serves up a small menu. It's not the most atmospheric environment, but it's a convenient location just off the highway and they have a small parking lot. Most of the items we have tried have been good to delicious, though a couple have made our "wouldn't order that again" list. Would order: BBQ pork buns, siu mai, har gow, spare ribs. Would skip: rice noodles, shrimp in crispy tofu wrap. Will go back. Plenty of things left on the menu to try!

Yelp
They're dim sum is some of the best. Their service is excellent. The place is a large place and so there's not much of a wait.

Yelp
This is our go to for Dim Sum. Everything we have family from out of town in, we bring them here and they always love the food. My kids love the dim sum and they are picky. Highly recommend their food.

Yelp
A surprise in the middle of Santa Rosa. Fresh dim sum and friendly staff at this no-frills restaurant. Not sure what all the drive-thru action is about...
google avatar

Jason W.

Yelp
I had takeout. The food was delicious and I really wish I had time to sit down and eat dim sum on site. The service was quick and their space is big and airy. Reminds me of eating family style when I visited China in 2010.

Yelp
Solid 4-5 stars for the food, but frustrated that they are not willing to help with gluten free. A comment 10 years ago indicated that they did, and based on the comments from our server if it wasn't busy they may have been able to. I brought gf tamari from a store and asked what could be ordered. The server said that he didn't really understand gluten-free, but that someone in the back did when he came back out I asked about several dishes and he told me that they could make the snow pea chicken gluten-free so my daughter ordered that. 30 minutes later, the waiter came out and said that actually that dish had wheat in it and that the only thing they could make for her was vegetables. Really frustrating because at that point 60% of our dishes had come out and she just had to watch everyone eat and then we had to order takeout dinner to pick up after. So don't count on gluten free being an option here.
google avatar

Yelp
Great dim sum for a small town. Their black bean chili sauce is the best!!! You can even get some extra to go (refrigerates well) which definitely will spice up your home meals. Our last order for pea sprouts was so chewy, it was inedible. So disappointed since this is one of my favorite go tos. The other food was good though-beef chow fun, bean curd roll, sui mai, and turnip cake.

Yelp
It had been several years since we've been here. Today, we had the craving. You know the one. We pulled into the nearly empty parking lot. We're they open? The OPEN sign was lit. As we walked to the front door, we saw the sign. (sigh) Take-out only. We stepped in. Tables were placed to block entry to the dining room. Another group was completing their order. We grabbed an order sheet and went outside to figure out what we wanted. On the south side of the restaurant, there are two tables with attached seating under the awning. There are also some tables on the north side but only one appeared to have an umbrella. The rest were in the sun. I took our sheet inside and paid. There was a container of sanitizing wipes. I took one to wipe our table. We sat and conversed as we waited. I went in several times to check on our order. I noticed later that other guests had given their phone numbers and were called when their food was ready. Numerous cars with families came and were surprised to see that indoor dining was not available. Some stayed, some left. What we ordered was good. The best item was the Pan Fried Turnip Cake. The weakest dish was the Pan Fried Pork Bun. Small ball of filling but no juice. Our ratings: Shrimp Dumpling - 4 Shrimp & Chive Dumpling - 4 Deep Fried Glutinous Ball - 5 Stuffed Eggplant - 4 Pork Spare Ribs - 4 (good flavor, small portion) Turnip Cake - 5 (crispy) Pan-fried Pork Bun - 3 (no soup) It's a challenging time. They're still doing a pretty good job. We'll be back.

Yelp
Love this place. Chow Fun is the best I've ever had and their dumplings are the best for
