Yelp
Last night, our friend and fellow Yelp Elite Ryan M. arranged for a UYE to be held at Hanna's Gourmet for their monthly family-style dinner featuring a particular country's cuisine; in this case, Ireland! For $35 (not including drinks, tax, or tip), we were served a variety of sumptuous dishes that our group raved about...
Red Cabbage, Beets, and Green Apple Salad w/Creamy Tarragon Vinaigrette and Gorgonzola Crumbles: normally, I'm not a fan of red cabbage, but this warm salad worked. We really loved the beets especially!
Soda Bread: we got a warm batch of bread, and with how quickly it disappeared, I kinda wanted more!
Beef & Stout Stew: the beef was very tender, the root veggies complimented the dish, and the stout gravy bound the dish together.
Irish Baked Salmon w/Creamy Whisky Sauce: cooked perfectly and quite fork-tender.
Colcannon (potatoes, leeks, parsnips, and kale mashed together): this was the dish I really was looking forward to trying, especially after reading about Irish cuisine previously. Think of it as a mashed potato and veggie dish... and it tasted pretty good!
Creamy Mushy Peas: a very interesting side dish, with an interesting texture. It was my first time trying this, but was also surprised at how good it was.
Chocolate Coffee Cake w/Bailey's Frosting: honestly, I was a bit disappointed by this one - the cake was moist, but also a bit on the bland side, with the sweetness being from the frosting. Perfect for a diabetic like myself... but also for my health-conscious brother, who saw it in the fridge after I brought it home, asked to try a bite - and proceeded to finish it off (his response was that he couldn't help himself, as he hadn't had cake in a long time, and the mild taste suited his lifestyle)! Sharing is caring, I suppose...
I also had a fruit iced tea ($3), which wasn't sweetened at all but had enough caffeine to keep me going through dinner. Plus, unlike the soft drinks, there was free refills!
Hanna's Gourmet is pretty cozy and intimate; our group was in the center of the room with tables being grouped together in a large row. As there was a second seating that evening at 7:30, we couldn't linger as long as we would've liked, but the timing for the dinner was perfect. We all left happy and full... and in my case, it was off to the Yelp Elite Event at Pacific Standard Coastal Kitchen... until I took a few wrong turns and found myself on the 163N. I suppose it was for the best, seeing how stuffed I was and how the event would've been winding up by the time I got there anyway.
Still, a great evening with great food and great folks (a few of Ryan's coworkers also were invited, and they had questions for us about Yelp Elitehood which I hope we were able to answer). Many thanks to Ryan for arranging this, and for the folks at Hanna's Gourmet for feeding us! Think I'll come back for their happy hour (which I noticed when I went to the venue a week prior to pay beforehand; Ryan's review covers the process for reservations and paying for the monthly dinner)...
