On the Grid : Hanoi Hannah

"The first restaurant from the team behind Tokyo Tina, Hanoi Hannah is a more informal, hawker style eatery. Inspired by the restaurants scattered along Victoria street, it is the perfect cheap and cheerful option for small groups, south of the river. The point of difference here is the food is focused on just one Asian cuisine, traditional Vietnamese street food. Open 7 days and catering to take-away, there’s no reason to miss the Hanoi style pork belly wraps. If you are running short on time, swing past the ‘express lane’, two doors down." - Self-Titled

I’ve been to the main Hanoi Hannah before and absolutely loved it, so I stopped by the Windsor Express store for a quick takeaway—and it was just as good. You’re definitely paying a premium for Vietnamese fusion here, but the quality and flavours back it up. Tried the rice paper rolls first. They were nice, light, and fresh, but pretty standard. At $12 for two, they weren’t the best value and could’ve used a bit more meat, but still tasty. I came mainly for the vermicelli salad bowl. I was deciding between the chicken or pork and ended up adding pork—and honestly, the pork was the standout. Both proteins were cooked perfectly though. Fresh noodles, salad, herbs, and a well-balanced fish sauce dressing made the whole bowl super satisfying. It came to about $28 + $6 for the extra meat, which is definitely on the pricier side, but you’re paying for high-quality ingredients and you can taste it. Overall, a great quick lunch or takeaway option in Windsor if you’re after Vietnamese fusion done well. Quality is consistent, flavours are clean, and everything’s made fresh.

Amazing food and even better service! Everything we tried was soooo good! The staff were very friendly, especially the chef Sachhi!! Helped us with the ordering and got us any thinner needed. Definitely worth a visit!

We ordered the first time from Hanoi Hannah and it was DELICIOUS!!! We ordered the Spicy Lemongrass Beef Pho, Mixed Mushroom Pho and the Flavour Bomb (Ginger, Garlic and Lemongrass). Everything was so tasty. I currently have a really bad flu and needed something nourishing and light. Thank you chefs, the mushroom pho hit the spot ✨

When making dinner plans and craving good hawker-style dishes, this is a great place. Built for takeaway and speed, Express Lane still has a couple of tables to sit in and enjoy what is consistently good Vietnamese food not far removed from their old original location. Although it's taken me some time to post, I was a massive fan of their $25 soup series back in August when they did four soups in four weeks to support Scarf (a social enterprise using hospitality to transform lives), I post this now in the hope that they do something similar to this again soon! Not a place usually housing a special, the Spicy Chicken & Prawn Wonton Noodle Soup hit all the right notes in terms of flavour and I look back and crave this hot bowl of delicious dumps and noods even now. Having dined at both Hanoi Hannah Vol II and here, this is probably one of my favourite dishes I've had. I also like that you can pimp their pho but get concerned re. value for money when their dishes will already set you back $22-$24 before the card and weekend surcharges. I feel that to truly be an express version of their staple restaurant with the cheap and fun atmosphere it seems to want to be, there should be leniencies in price and/or size ranges. It's only now I realise how good a deal the $25 soup series was!! If sending noods ain't so much your thing, the rice dishes are hearty and the Lemongrass Chicken Curry was creamy and a great alternative.

Beautiful service from Jasmine and Sophia. Had the bahn mi, lime pepper squid, and the peking duck rice paper rolls which were all delicious and arrived in a timely manner. Will definitely be a returning customer. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Simply the best Pho in Melbourne. Working on the edge of Chinatown there are a number of options. But l want the best, not the rest. So l get my lunch from HH. Amazing staff and super quick service.

What a nice treat to a day. Have done take out for the 2nd time and still never disappoints. Friendly service. Had the Stair fried veggies before and it was good. Also tried the grilled pork with vermicelli noodle and it was just amazing. Can’t wait to try other dishes.

Food is delicious and a bit more unusual than the normal Vietnamese restaurants! And that's where it stops. Service wise they only provide the option to pay by card but have processing fees (I know this is charged by the payment processor but if you don't provide an alternative payment option it should not be passed to the customer plus you need a bigger sign saying that you only take eftpos/credit card). Also while happy to pay, the Sunday sur charges were all confusing - things were different for takeout and eat in etc. So needs a bit more communication on those and then a 5 star place. Staff were good, it is not their fault 😊👍 We don't come to restaurants to feel like zombies ordering using a QR code, we would have ordered from the couch if that was the case - FYI

Dropped in for lunch yesterday. Can't fault anything. It was a great experience. The chicken Slaw was top notch.
