What To Do in Shibuya: Our Guide

"Han no Daidokoro Dogenzaka is the most luxurious outpost of chef Yukikazu Nobuta's yakiniku empire. Opened in 2005 but relocated into a new space just last year, a maze of secluded booths and private dining rooms unfolds beyond the swish black marble counter wrapping the open kitchen that diners first encounter upon entering." - Davey Young

Google
There are plenty of beef Yakiniku in Tokyo. I do not prefer all you can eat but rather a la carte menu. This restaurant has quality Kobe and Yamagata beef sets. Price for Kobe beef set was ¥25000. The downside is that you have to order 1 set per person and cannot share 1 set between 2. The dinner cost over ¥100,000 for a party of 6 people.

Google
I hardly know where to start - this is my tenth night in Tokyo this trip and every meal has been superb -.this, however is the best by far. Service flawless - food exquisite - the staff are rightly proud to work there. Quite superb

Google
One of the best yakiniku we had in Tokyo. We ordered a Kobe platter and a Yamagata platter and both were of amazing quality. Not the first time i visited the place, and in fact we have already made a reservation for Dec when we will be back again. Service was also always very prompt. Definitely recommended yakiniku place for the beef lovers!

Google
I honestly can’t remember a better beef meal than this. Skip the Kobe beef options. Stick with these and you won’t regret: 1) full variety set of the Yamagata beef course, 2) Sukiyaki beef options (it’s not the sukiyaki you know, but rather 3-5 second quick sears for melt-in-your-mouth rare beef slices, and 3) the yukhoe.

Google
Great place with a private room and great English talking staff. Some of the best beef you will eat in Japan Tokyo also the fun of coooking your own meal as well as them cooking some for you. 100 recommend it to anyone looking for a meal

Google
Such a tender melt in your mouth meat The vibe and the way the restaurant looks is so pretty which makes the atmosphere superb. Chocolate ice cream is quite special and surprisingly good as it doesn’t look conventional. Lastly, the service is so friendly and nice

Google
An exceptional experience! The food was incredible, and the timing of when everything is brought out is perfect. You’re given time to enjoy what’s on the table, and fully let one course settle before the next is brought out. The staff were amazing. My husband knows some Japanese and he started off using it but when he needed to use English, most of the staff we interacted with had fluent English and the rest could clearly communicate with us. Easily one of the best experiences and highly, highly recommend.

Google
We reached this place following the feedback from an Italian content creator who lives in Japan (Marco Togni) and we need to say that it was the best hint EVER! The food was so amazing that before to go back to Europe we need to comeback again. The waiter Sota was very kind and clear with explaining very well what we could order, the various types of meat and he was really polite but also very friendly and professional. Best food Best waiter IN 2 WORDS: A DREAM!

Yelp
On 7th floor of the building that google map leads you to and we had to wait 20 min before being seated without a reservation. Mostly tourists, and one table that were locals. Meat is definitely fresh and the grill is clean and the heat pretty even. Food I thought was decent. Staff friendly and spoke a lot of English. Some cuts of the meat were chewy and tough. Some were melt in your mouth and divine. I don't know enough about meat but this was a fun place to eat.

Yelp
This restaurant is located on the 7th floor in a building right by the Uniqlo Shibuya store. They gave us a private room for our group. If you have private room, there is a button to ring for service. They have a few set dinners though you can order a la carte with a small addition cover charge. The food is very high quality and we can taste the difference in the various cuts of meat. Service is great and they constantly check in with you and remove extra plates or refill water. Highly recommended to try!

Yelp
Han No Daikodoro - Shibuya, Japan aka Han's Kitchen Annex (in Google Maps) Overall: ***** Highly Recommended ***** Food: ***** Value: **** Menu: **** Ambiance: **** Service: **** Whenever I'm in a city in Japan, I use Google maps and search for "A5 Wagyu Yakiniku." I then look at the food pictures of each restaurant for an assorted platter of different cuts of A5 Wagyu, with a lot of fat and not marinated. When I find a restaurant, I then look at their website (translate to English using Google) for the menu and check to see if is still available. When I did this in Shibuya, Tokyo, the best-looking assorted tray of A5 Wagyu was at Han's Kitchen Annex, so we went there. When I got there and was handed the menu it said, Han No Daikodoro. Yea! I first discovered them in Kawasaki and I became an instant fan. I learned that they were opening a restaurant in Honolulu and now I enjoy dining there. However, in Japan they offer a wider selection of cuts and with the $1.00 US to ¥1.50 Yen, you pay only 1/2 to 2/3 of the price. When you grill Wagyu, you normally grill each side for a few seconds, depending on the thickness (thicker -longer) and fattiness (shorter). You want to eat this medium-rare to medium. If you eat it rare-raw, the oils do not have a chance to flavor. If you cook it it well done, you might as well just go buy a chuck steak. I prefer wagyu non-marinated and seasoned with salt & pepper. I actually bring my own sea salt & pepper grinder. Again, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Better than sashimi, sushi, pork tonkatsu, tempura or sukiyaki. They allow only one 12 second video & the remaining to 3 seconds, with maximum of 10 pictures/videos. The full video and pictures of the entire menu can be found on other platforms/apps: MiltonIn808 RATINGS KEY: A = Really Good - one of the best B = Good - would order again C = ok - similar, nothing special D = Not very good - wouldn't order F = Terrible - avoid

Yelp
We wanted to try Kobe beef and this place came out as one of the top places. I would ** recommend ** making a reservation ahead of time. They have set meals (multiple choices, with different prices and selections of beef) and ala carte. If you choose a set meal, everyone at the table has to get the same set meal, which did not make total sense to me because each type of meat is served in the number of pieces it is ordered; for eg. if there are two of you, you would get two pieces for each meat and if there are three, you would get three pieces, so technically it should not matter if each person get a different set meal... but... that's their rule. We were seated in a quiet corner of the restaurant (loved it! Felt like VIP) and our orders came pretty quick. We cooked the beef ourselves at the hot grill in the middle of the table and they were very diligent about checking on us and replacing the grill with a clean one. The food was amazing! It was my first time having Kobe beef and I loved that it basically melted in mouth like butter. The Yamagata beef was also amazing, but the Kobe beef really stole all the limelight. We were very satisfied with our meal and the service we got here. It was such a wonderful experience.

Yelp
First time here and did not disappoint. The service was awesome, from the front attendant to our server "MIRAMI". The food was amazing too with lots of choices to choose from. First class service, great ambiance and the view from the seventh floor was amazing. Definitely will comeback before ending our vacation here in Shibuya.

Yelp
This place is bomb! We came here for the lunch special and it didn't disappoint - it's Japanese bbq! I got the four types of meat which comes with rice, miso soup, salad and dipping sauces. The different meats were labeled so you know which one you are eating which is pretty cool. The quality of the meat is out of this world! Super tender and moist and just melts in your mouth! I literally ate every single thing. Definitely try this place out!

Yelp
Amazing!!!! Came here for a little date night in Japan, and it was amazing. Great quality of food and great service. It is on the pricey side keep that in mind

Yelp
Some of the best service I've received. When our party first entered, we were greeted by all of the staff. Our waiters were quick and efficient with our requests. The ambiance was lovely! The mood lighting was nice and moody, without being too dark! Our table was right next to a window where we could see down into the streets. We ordered the premium course, 12 courses, and it was some of the best meat i've ever had. From the side dishes, to the dessert, the meal was absolutely amazing. All of the meat was soft, tender, juicy, and delicious with and without the dipping sauce. The sukiyaki with the egg was one of our favorites for the night. This was our last dinner in Japan, and it was of incredible value, for only $70 USD/10,000 yen per person. I cannot express enough the incredible value of everything on the menu. The side dishes and a la carte meat are at very reasonable prices. I would recommend this to everyone who enjoys bbq, and I would love to come again in the future!

Yelp
To keep it sweet and simple... just try this place out while in Shibuya. One of the best yakiniku spot with amazing service. The restaurant interior has a relaxed atmosphere, and they offer private seating! Ordered the assorted wagyu beef, 6 kinds for 6,578 JPY ($50~). Well worth the money.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food and atmosphere. Fun experience for my dtr and me. Beef was so tender and I enjoyed the beef sushi, too We didn't go for the high end cuts, but I'm sure they are well worth it. Next trip we will go when we are a big more hungry . Heat was killing us today

Yelp
We had the sampler of Kobe beef. It was awesome. One thing to note, you have to cook! They don't cook for you. The service was subpar compare to other Japanese establishments. Perhaps when I arrived, they were getting ready close and the staff was busy cleaning up. hanno daidokoro bettei

Yelp
I was searching For a good A5 wagyu restaurant in Tokyo and found this on Yelp. I loved everything about this restaurant. Friendly and knowledgeable staff Good A5 wagyu You can customize it This place is on the 7th floor of the building next to uniqlo shibuya. There's another place with a similar name on the same street.

Yelp
We dun goofed by trying to seek out Yakiniku (DIY table-top grilling) without making a reservation. All the other Yakiniku spots we tried to dip into in this area told us they're booked and reservation-only. But that's cool, I had a feeling that would happen. So we did some Yelpsearch and came across Han no Daidokoro. There are actually two locations; the first one was fully booked, but the host was kind enough to call and direct us to the other/this location. We got our names down with the English-speaking employees. Wagyu and Kobe beef are just ridiculous. Look at all the photos of the beautifully marbled meat. The fatty cuts simply melt in your mouth!! We ordered a set that came with a few sides like salads and a beef appetizers, and 5 cuts of beef. We loved grilling the beef ourselves--be sure to just give them a quick sear and not overcook them! Though this place can come off as almost TOO touristy, it's a great Japanese dining experience and absolute heaven sharing it with a loved one, the "meat boss" and a highball.

Yelp
TDLR:My recommendation is that if you don't like your meat rare, make sure you tell them beforehand, as the texture for some meats wasn't for me. Went here becuase it's old location was really hyped up by my friends-- thier wagyu beef was known for being delicious yet affordable. When we came in it was a 30min wait (with plenty of tourists like us as well), and the staff was unbelievably friendly to foreigners, or at least our waitress was. I had bought the ultimate course for 6600 yen, and although thier WAGYU beef was OUT OF THIS WORLD(it truly melts in your mouth), I felt like one of my problems was how I wanted my meat done.
google avatar

Lora M.

Yelp
I wouldn't suggest going to this one if you're a group of 1-2. They sit you at the bar and normally that's fine but it's an open kitchen concept and the kitchen is very messy. They put all the clean plates stacked up right in front of you on the bar. It would've made for a better ambiance if this was more clean and it didn't look cluttered especially when you are paying a lot of money for a nice dinner. The food itself was good and I felt that we got a good deal - $60 for one for a drink, some apps, and 6 oz? Of wagyu (different cuts). You cook it yourself kbbq style. I also want to add that it's about 50% or more of tourists.
google avatar

Tricie C.

Yelp
Really life altering. Stopped in to try it and as we did not have a reservation, we were seated at the bar and told we had about 75 minutes. No problem, until we tasted the meat. Holy heck. Right away we made a reservation to return and sit in a private room. We went to town and ordered the 10 cut Wagyu assortment, the Chateaubriand as well as a few starters and sake. Easily one of the best dinners of our 10 day trip. For the quality, the cost is minimal. We were absolutely stuffed and spent about $230 USD. I wish we had discovered it sooner so we could have gone back at least one more time.

Yelp
Wanted to try the ever famous kobe beef of japan and stumble upon this restuarant online. Thought to myself "we must try this restaurant when we visit tokyo". And sure enough visited and we were not disappointed. Although it was hard to find. It really is a hole in a wall and had to make reservations because they do get packed. Place is small but it was all worth it. There beef was soft, juicy, just melts in your mouth makes you want for more. So when you visit tokyo make sure you drop by this place. They speak English reslly well and they happily welcome there customers

Yelp
My mouth was already watering as soon as I stepped off the elevator on the 7th floor - you're immediately surrounded by the smell and sizzle of prime beef. We arrived around 930p on a Wednesday night without a reservation and were seated within 15 minutes. The restaurant itself has plenty of counter spaces and 2-4 top tables, but somehow we lucked out and were seated in one of the private booths. My mom had been asking for Wagyu beef even before we left on this trip, so we decided to splurge and get the "Special Course" set meal for ¥6000/person, which is an amazing deal. I'd definitely suggest coming hungry, because you're looking at about a dozen courses over two hours. I believe you get 12 total pieces of top shelf Yamagata beef; from sirloin to tongue to chuck to skirt steak to tri tip and so much more, you're basically sampling the entire cow. Some cuts the server will grill for you, others they leave you to your own devices. I really enjoyed the beef sashimi and nigiri that we were served, though my mom and sister were hesitant to eat it raw and went for a quick sear on the grill. It was my first experience with wagyu and it did not disappoint. The meat is so tender and flavorful and really does melt in your mouth; many of the courses come with recommended sauce pairings, though I enjoyed the morsels on their own. I really appreciate that they kept the side dishes light, since the meat is so rich. My friend JJ compared it to eating a stick of butter, in the best way possible! The mushrooms from the appetizer sampler, the simple Korean Choregi salad, and the chilled noodles were my favorites. We each had a shochu drink for around ¥600 each, which were super light and refreshing - a good complement to the meal. For those of you looking to imbibe, they also have an all you can drink plan for ¥2000, which gives you 120 minutes of bottomless booze. Kanpai!

Yelp
Beautifiul comfortable restaurant that specializes on yakinku. Lots of variery of meat, maybe too much.Theyceven serve bimbimbap and soups. The price range goes from 5 bux to 60 dollars. Very fun experience to try out for high quality beef! Best beef i had in my life and cost me 2 times less that in nyc! Absolutely recommend it

Yelp
This was the best steak I've had in my life. So juicy and tasty. The food just melts in your mouth. I ordered the 8 piece chef's set menu. I first thought it might be too much, but it was perfect. As AMAZING as the food is, I can't say enough Getting ready for some live sumo action!ystem for service, these guys would get 3 stars....without question. I got to meet the owner, aka the Beef Boss. You can tell by his humorous and upbeat attitude, driven to provide an AMAZING experience with his employees that they've got something special going on here. I'm definitely coming back here when I come back to Tokyo.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere that embraces tourists and offers a great all-around dining experience. From the front-of-house to the meat boss himself, all the staff were friendly and professional. You go here to eat exceptional beef grilled right at your table top. We had a spread of tasty beef cuts that were all top-notch and had that melt-in-your-mouth thing going on once ingested. I wanted to inhale my beef, but I held back, trying to savor each delectable bite. And careful not to overcook your beef! There are many Yakiniku spots in Shibuya. Han no Daidokoro is a really good one. They gave us a great overall experience. If you ever find yourself here, good job! Now why didn't I order any beef nigiri?
google avatar

Bethany M.

Yelp
Not a fan of this place - meat was under-seasoned/not of the quality that one expects at this price point (kalbi was particularly lacking - very sinewy and not well-marinated). The service was similarly lacking. Maybe we were just unlucky, but our waiter was awful - he rolled his eyes on several occasions (in relation to reasonable requests for more beverages, etc.), cleared plates that still had food on them (without asking whether we were done), and seemed generally sour-tempered. I'm not sure why this place has such a great rep in the community and in online reviews...? It could have been an off night. That being said, there are many better yakiniku options in the area for the money. We won't return.
google avatar

shay N.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! If you love beef, like luuuuv beef, and you want a bunch of different cuts, this is your spot. The tasting menu included 8 cuts, all of them delicious and melts in your mouth. There's also beef a la carte which I would have done if there's more than 2 people in your group. We sat at the counter which is fantastic because that's where the action is. Watched the chef expertly navigate different a cuts, using a multitude of knives (who knew you needed more than one?!). Go!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Very very disappointed. For a fancy yakiniku spot in yhe heart of busy Shibuya, we expected something authentic that lives up to the Japanese standards. What we were given is lacking service, low quality and blend meat. When they heard us speaking English, they immediately swapped out the menu, not allowing us to order from the menu that had the better quality meats and foods. Just because we are not local, are we not allowed for the better quality? WE HAD TO EAT OUR MEAL WITH ONLY SOY SAUCE! While other Japanese families had plates of sauces for their meats. Also, they said we had 2 hr limit to finish our meal... 40 mins in, they were kicking us out??? The Japanese family next to us have been drinking rounds of beer. This place is a joke. Very overpriced. Paid to be treated like shit.
google avatar

Erina W.

Yelp
Oh my gosh, how delicious! We came on a Saturday night, and surprisingly, there was no wait for us at approx 6pm, as we were seated right away. We decided to get the set, which was approx 7,000 yen per person. It was a set menu, that comes with a drink, snacks, apps, rice, and dessert with an 8 piece set of kobe beef. The food was just the perfect amount and for approximately USD$65 per person, I would say it was a steal. Where else can you get an outstanding kobe beef meal for that price? The service was amazing. The host was very nice and even gave us sparkling water as a parting gift. I highly recommend this place, especially if you want an amazing kobe beef yakiniku experience.
google avatar

Yui S.

Yelp
After eating here, I feel sorry for vegetarians! The beef was, by far the best I have ever tasted. I thought the mythical Japanese Kobe beef was just that...a myth. However, the quality of the meat and the meticulous preparation resulted in the most tender, succulent dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating. Being in a large group of friends and business associates, I was able to taste a number of the preparations...all were heavenly. This is a "must visit" restaurant when in Tokyo!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
I ate at six or seven yakiniku places in Tokyo and Los Angeles in late 2017, ending with this place at the conclusion of my trip to Japan in November. This place was *by far* the best. I arrived on a Monday night at 6:00 with no reservation and was seated immediately at the counter. I ordered the "chef's recommended" platter, which was just under 10,000 yen, because I was by myself and hungry. It was a LOT of food (ten different types of meat) and I almost couldn't finish it -- I could have easily split it. For the price, was it worth it? YES! Oh my gosh it was so good. It blew all the other yakiniku places I'd been to out of the water. The staff speaks very good English, so between my weak Japanese and their English we could understand each other just fine. Like basically everywhere in Japan, the customer service was excellent. The staff made recommendations on the meat, which I appreciated. Additionally, sitting at the counter allowed me to see and talk to the chefs, who were very friendly to me and everybody else at the restaurant. In short, if you love yakiniku, I highly recommend this place, and plan to return on every subsequent visit to Tokyo, except next time with friends because I ate too much.

Yelp
I loved it, especially as one who likes korean style barbecue. We just came from Seoul and I was truly disappointed for not finding a good korean barbecue place. Ironic that the bestsellers Korean barbecue we had was in Shibuya. First off we struggled finding this restaurant not realizing it was on the 7th or 8th floor of a large building. The decor was very nice, service was excellent and the meats were heavenly. We had lunch here two times during our 6 day visit to Tokyo. They seemed to specialize in Wagyu beef so I had to try it. I ordered a sample plate consisting of Rib finger, Rib Eye, Chuck and Zabuton Chuch. Everything was delicious .I realized it is nearly impossible to find short ribs during my visit. I will eat here again when we return to Tokyo
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Well here is a fancy Yaki-niku spot. It's listed as Korean but its really Korean inspired Japanese...so don't expect marinated short-rib here. Instead its beef on a grill. Getting the second cheapest most set (~60 bucks) gets you all Japanese beef. It's a fairly large course and for me way too much food. A ton of meat (some very fatty, some very lean). Staff was english friendly, meat was good. Sides were decent. I'm just not excited and I've been to better and cheaper and nicer yaki-niku places in Tokyo. But if you're in Shibuya and really want grilled meat this place will do it.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
So amazing, I have no words. The service was great and the quality of the meat was fantastic. The chateaubriand was to die for. The ribeye was less expensive than the chateaubriand but was still one of my favorite meats. I recommend getting the variety of meats because you get to try them all. This restaurant was all-around amazing!
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
Yelp says this is the new location but I had just been here 2 weeks ago and the "old listing" looks more like the restaurant I went to so hopefully I'm leaving a review for the correct place. Probably one of my favorite places while eating in Japan! I wish we had found this place sooner! This place had better quality in meat than other places I visited but also cheaper! Great service as well, really friendly and some of them speak Spanish, English, and Japanese!
google avatar

Mallory D.

Yelp
We came here for my birthday dinner while on vacation here in Tokyo. It was a perfect Japanese steakhouse experience. The meat melted in my mouth, it was so fresh and cooked so fast on the grill! The staff was very friendly and informative. They also blasted fun music in the restaurant, making it a fun touristy experience.
google avatar

Wai Man P.

Yelp
Location has changed, it's along the small alley. There's English menu and the waiter can speak English. I would strongly recommend the rib cut. It's very tasty.
google avatar

Ron C.

Yelp
I found this restaurant on yelp during my last day in Shibuya. I thought I'd try it out based on my opinion by looking at a partial menu and a few of the comments. After making a reservation we were told our table would be ready in 20 minutes. I was impressed with part of the menu that I had not seen and their meats. We ordered the 10 meat tray and everything including the tongue we ate was tender & delicious. My girlfriend thought it was a very nice restaurant and she will be a returning customer. As a foreign traveler, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant. Some of the best waygu I've ever had. Great service and fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Best foods and services. The quality of the beef sashimi is unbelievable good. Highly recommend everyone here.

Yelp
The staff knows enough English and are very kind. Struck up a conversation with a waiter and it made us feel welcomed! Great place and the best beef I've ever had! Still salivating over the memory! Sadly, back to Irvine my family goes. (ToT)/~~~

Bruce X.

Yelp
Wonderful place. They even speak English here, with an English menu. I had their sampler. Wish I had more beef.

Nick R.

Yelp
This place is awesome! The wagyu is next level good. The owner is very friendly and the atmosphere was cozy

Marie S.

Yelp
One word UMAMI! Come here and you won't regret ur trip trust me. We ordered the ¥4,560 set plus the wagyu short rib and I was over the world when I tried the short ribs, it's a must have!

Charlotta B.

Yelp
This was such an incredibly delicious and wonderful experience. The food was unbelievable and the service was so friendly. This is a must visit while in Tokyo!

David S.

Yelp
It was pretty terrible, not going to lie. My family and I were expecting a lot more from a fancy yakiniku restaurant, but we were very disappointed. We sat down and we had these fancy sauce plates and sauces with a fancy menu in-front of us, but as soon as they heard us speak English, it was all immediately taken away and replaced with a smaller, less fancy menu and a small blue plate. Even after we got the small blue plate, they took it away in the middle of us eating. They must have confused us with Japanese locals since we're asian. It's really unfair that just because we aren't locals, we don't get the high quality and expensive things. The Japanese families around us all had the things we started out with before they were taken away. The food was not even that good. Also, my sister found some dirty brown stuff in the ice cream, and they said it was "cheese". Excuse me, what? First of all, how come only my sister had "cheese" in her ice cream but not me or my other sister? Second of all, that was NOT cheese.. it was gross and dirty and mixed in with the ice cream. We are so very disappointed!
