Hansom Restaurant

This is one pf the easiest reviews I have ever had to do……. One word says it all FABULOUS! We have heard of Chef Ruth and that she had worked at the prestigious hotel ‘The Ritz’ in London and she has obviously taken everything she had learned and put all that experience into her own restaurant. Well done Ruth, you are a credit to the industry and proof that hard work and dedication pays off. The four of us are proper foodies and the Hansom restaurant did not disappoint. The tasting menu was tasty, well presented and delicious. The service from our waiter John was exemplary, along with a wonderful manner he too is a credit to this establishment. The wine list suited the tasting menu perfectly and represented amazing value for money. Chef Ruth came out to check on us which was a beautiful touch. We travelled many miles to experience the Hansom Restaurant and it was worth every mile. All in all we had an incredible evening of the best food, wine and service! Thank you Ruth, John and the staff…. We look forward to returning soon. Highly appreciated and highly recommended!!!!

A really brilliant tasting menu, staff are knowledgeable and attentive and the wine list is an absolute bargain with an excellent English fizz. The different courses display a range of flavours and textures all perfectly balanced. The cheese course is not to be missed. I just wish I lived closer!

Having been for Ruth's taster menu previously (what an experience that what!) we decided to try Sunday lunch - and it wasn't a disappointment. The starters were amazing, flavourful and diverse. The mains were spot on, at first we were worried we didn't have enough gravy but need not have - it was far from dry, everything was melt in the mouth, absolutely wonderful and highly recommended. Staff were brilliant, wine was on point, can't wait for our next visit to this wonderful place 🍷♥️

An absolute gem of a restaurant. Superb quality food and service. We visited for my wife’s birthday and was made to feel very welcome from the start. Collected and dropped off by Mark in his Lotus made this a very special occasion. We are very lucky to have an award winning chef and quality restaurant in Bedale & North Yorkshire. A very warm thank you to Ruth, Mark and the team. 10/10.

We immediately booked to visit after reading the review by The Times food critic. What a treat this tasting menu was. The courses presented were all very good, our agreed favourite was the asparagus dish, so fresh and flavourful. We shared the cheese course which was the right amount of some great Yorkshire cheeses, I could have eaten a board of the Ribblesdale Cheese Company goats cheese. As the first table sitting on the evening we were the first patrons to try the new strawberry dessert, what a pressure, but we enjoyed immensely and gave our seal of approval. That sorbet was delicious. The wine pairings were well matched, highlights were the Greek white paired with the asparagus dish, and the ice cider complimented the strawberry dessert perfectly. Staff were attentive at the right amount, and requests for extra water, additional drinks etc. were actioned in quick time. The decor of the building was lovely, and balanced comfortability and the fine dining experience. Good value for money in comparison to other tasting menus we’ve had recently. This will become our new recommendation for family and friends wanting a good meal.

I've been meaning to try Hansom for a long time and it did not disappoint. Ruth's tasting menu felt nostalgic, comforting, familiar and homely - the locally sourced produce only helped in this regard. Staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. The venue is both modern and rustic, a paradox that creates a cozy yet refined dining style. We can't wait to return!

A returning customer! This time I treated my Mum to the Friday Lunch and it absolutely did not disappoint! I had the hake and Mum had the belly pork, cooked and crackled to perfection. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable of the food and drinks, they suggested a fabulous gin and tonic pairing, so much so my Mum actually then went out and bought a bottle of the gin and recommended tonic. Portion sizes were very generous as always. Will definitely be back again.

We had the enormous privilege of having Ruth Hansom and her team cater our wedding last weekend. It was important to my husband and me that we have showstopper food on our big day, and let me just say - WOW. Did her team ever deliver. Every single item served, from canapes to main meal to evening food, was carefully curated, beautifully presented, and utterly delicious. Ruth herself is incredibly approachable and creative, and her team is extremely professional. We've had dozens of people tell us they'll never forget the incredible food at our wedding, and neither will we. Hansom is the real deal, guys. Run, don't walk.
