Detroit Taco Pop-Up Plans New Outpost in the West Side Industrial Neighborhood | Eater Detroit

"A Fort Street party store in the West Side Industrial area that will house a more permanent outpost of a popular Detroit taco operation; the space is located across from Detroit’s main post office and is scheduled to open as the taco spot’s Fort Street location on Tuesday, January 5." - Brenna Houck

Went to pick up stuff for mimosas for brunch that day (maybe a few hours after they opened) and had the strangest encounter. Was denied service and implied i was alcohol!c, not sure if it was because i came in so early or? I was completely respectful and kind so that was shocking to say the least. was treated rudely and was quickly dismissed for asking why he told me mid sentence that he was denying me service. Went to a few different stores just to see if it was me and they all thought i was sober enough to buy😂 so yeah whoever the guy is that works 10-noonish, i appreciate your concern but please just do your job next time. literally just wanted to grab what i needed and be on my way.

The alcohol is insultingly overpriced.

250 for 1942 Don Julio is like almost 100 dollars more than total wine. Why do you rip people off in Detroit. Sad.

Yelp
Whoa-ho-ho, good thing I came along because I don't know how many people would be qualified to rate this place through having had both Happy Four's pizza and Happy Four's liquor. We came to this place one night a couple of years ago but my buddy didn't want to go inside as there was a homeless man in a tall toque staring us down with his crazy buggy eyes. (A toque is what you Americans call a sock hat :) We didn't let that deter us though; the only thing it made us do was deem this liquor store the 'Toque Toque Liquor Store.' Since then, we have returned countless times as it is conveniently located and has some great pizza. For $2.50 you get a slice of pepperoni pizza that's providing you with enough calories & fat for your entire week - gawd damn it is delicious! As for the beer selection, there are some worthwhile finds like Original Coors, but it's also not a home-run beer selection as there are only 4 or 5 coolers full (of beer). Nevertheless, you can always find a cold 8 or 9% 40oz of some sort as well as something like O.G. Coors or Newcastle Brown if that type of beer is more desired. Lastly, I'd say this place is pretty relaxed and safe overall. We've had homeless people hanging out asking for change, but they're just trying to get a beer like you & I. In addition, we've seen kids run in to snatch & grab chocolate bars, but again, that's not anything that really threatened our safety. In addition, our friend's Camry was having starter problems one day and the shop owner came outside & fixed the problem in 5 minutes, then went back inside like nothing happened - the shopkeepers appear to be good people. I wouldn't let the rough outside appearance deter you, I've seen everyone from hobos, to suits, to fratboys in here & they've all left with a smile.

Shot part of a Detroit 187 episode here. Looks like it could be dangerous at night, bring a friend along if ya just gotta get 1 more bottle of Night Train!

Yelp
The food they started to offer tastes AMAZING!!!! Especially the shawarma! And the employees are super nice and friendly every time I go. I noticed they have more beer options now. Anyways, this is a good place where u can get beer, pizza, and shawarma all together. The most important thing is that they get everything right no matter u eat burger or shawarma.

Yelp
For a Detroit liquor store, it was pretty legit. I agree with Pavel's description. I went alone during the day on a Saturday and felt pretty safe. Not sure how it is at night. The guys behind the counter/plexiglas were very nice and helpful.

Yelp
This place is sketchy. I live pretty close to this store, so I have purchased several things here over the last few months, but I never will again. I parked in their parking lot for about 5 minutes while I mailed something at the post office across the street. I was planning to go inside the store to buy some Gatorade after I was done at the post office. When I walked back across the street, I noticed that something was on the windshield of my car. It was a wet piece of paper that said "Please go inside to pay for parking or you will be sent a ticket in the mail"....I walked inside to ask why they put that paper on my windshield and the manager came out to condescendingly explain that he had a license for his parking lot, and he could call the city to have them ticket anyone who parked in his lot and didn't want to pay the $5 parking. There was NO sign anywhere near the area of the lot in which I was parked that said I would be ticketed if I did not pay for parking. There was a small sign closer to the building that I had never seen before, and that nobody would see unless they were looking for it. I'm not even sure that it was legal for them to charge me that $5, but even if it was legal it was still a terrible business move. They lost a customer who was planning to make many purchases there in the future...all for a $5 parking charge for a few minutes of me being parked there before I went into the store.
