Pan Con Queso Serves Mexican Sourdough Pizzas in Southeast Portland | Eater Portland

"I observed that seasonal produce from Happy Apple Farm in Oregon City plays a big role at Pan Con Queso—on a recent visit the pizza arrived topped with thinly sliced zucchini and kale, and earlier versions used asparagus." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Always a great experience! Friendly staff. Kids love to take pictures, pick out their pumpkin and the hayride!

First off all, how BLESSED are we as a community to have such a wonderful place to enjoy and run around at. The kids LOVE the photo ops. The pumpkins are gorgeous, very colorful, and diverse. Any interactions with the people working there have been positive and helpful. We come back every year, multiple times a year! Any nasty review I’ve read, has NEVER been the case when we have went and the negative could have been prevented with a phone call check, we are all human! Give grace 🙏

When I saw a news feature about apple picking here in Colorado, I followed up on it and read online that due to bad weather in early spring they had no apples to pick but they did have locals apples and pumpkins for sale. It's free to go and they have a free hayride. The drive on 115 is along beautiful mountain roads. They have a country store with apples, pumpkins, Apple cider and more for sale. The free hay ride takes you to the pumpkin patch where the pumpkins are all 6' social distancing. Great idea so everyone can feel safe looking for their pumpkin. I walked the path to the pumpkin patch and enjoyed seeing the few apples still on the tree and many picture taking areas along the way. Great place for family fun.

In 2009 my wife surprised me with a trip to this little farm. I loved it! The best apple pie I've ever had! (And my wife is a fantastic baker) She matched them on filling and crust but their topping was better. Great place to bring the family!

I have been going here since I was a kid and am so happy that it has been around all these years! The staff is always kind, especially to the kids! The blackberries are the best, but make sure to go on Saturday or Wednesday or they'll likely be all picked. The pumpkin butter and other goodies are also great!

We took a trip to the Happy Apple Farm this week and our family and friends had so much fun. There are so many different types of apples to choose from, different types of pear trees, and a pumpkin patch. Throughout the property, there are props to take photos with as well! The staff is super friendly and encourage you to taste the apples before you fill up your bag to make sure you like each variety. My kids who range from teenager to elementary enjoyed it so much that we plan to come back before the season is over. The owner Tony is absolutely amazing as well and taught my kiddo about his favorite apple he was munching on. Don’t forget to take your hay ride down to the pumpkin patch! All of the pickings were reasonably priced and if you are military, there’s a discount for you! Take your family or go with friends and make this your new friends & family tradition! 😃 Thank you, Happy Apple Farm for the hospitality, unique green pumpkin, and delicious fruit! We will be back again soon!

We went over the weekend again for the tenth year in a row. Happy Apple is such a warm and inviting place with kind staff, delicious cobbler and cold cider. My kids enjoy the hayride and we had a blast picking out pumpkins and taking pictures together. They had Colorado apples brought in from another farm so we could still get local fruit. The apples at the store are very tasty! Thank you for all the HARD WORK and LOVE you put in to making the farm a treasure to visit every year! We will be back!!! ♥️ (Tony, you are the BEST!)

Google
Super sweet and friendly farm - owners are fantastic and so warm and accommodating! The tractor-pulled hay ride was convenient and the driver was extremely nice. They love dogs here too! We found some great pumpkins and delicious apple cider! The photo cutouts are fun and we’d definitely go again!

Yelp
Prices were a little high for the size of the apples and quantity we picked, but the staff is over the moon and beyond helpful. The potential is great and so much variety (so many trees). We did visit in early fall, so the pickings might be better now. I would love to see some goats roaming around, eating the grass, munching on fallen apples and pears. Will definitely be returning before end of season.

Yelp
Cute low key apple orchard and pumpkin patch. Very small compared to some fancier pumpkin patches that I've been too. I saw big boxes full of pumpkins so I think they're bought and put out on the lawn vs being grown on the premise. Also kinda expensive! My pumpkin was big and beautiful but ended up being $12. That being said, admission is free so it's not too bad. There are cute photo opportunities throughout the pumpkin patch area and it's pet friendly so I took some cute pictures of my kitten. The hay ride is fun and takes you to the gift shop which has lots of jams, syrups and a cafe. Sadly they were out of apple cider donuts and didn't have as much pumpkin treats as I would have wanted. Also there is no corn maze :( Overall, it's a fun little orchard and pumpkin patch that's near Colorado Springs. Id recommend going early if you want to try to catch the apple cider donuts!

Yelp
They were amazing. My kids had so much fun and the staff were so kind and went above and beyond to help my son have a fabulous experience beyond the apples, tractor ride, and pumpkins! I highly recommend coming!

Yelp
We've decided this will be the only pumpkin patch we come to from now on. The hospitality is out of this world. You can tell that they care so much about the people who come to their farm and not just about the business. It shines through in everything you do their. They have apple picking (which not so much right now, they had a late freeze unfortunately this year), they have a pumpkin patch, a free hay ride and an adorable store. It's so hard to leave once you get here. Oh! They also have some bbq food they sell as well that you can eat on site and round off your stay. Such an amazing place. Truly.

Yelp
We came late in the year (late October) on top of an earlier freeze so of course the apples were gone but that's okay! There were plenty of normal to interesting pumpkins to choose from. There's photo stand ins everywhere so lots of opportunity for cute pictures. The owner, Tony, is probably one of the most jovial persons I've met. I can't remember the last time a business made me feel so welcome! This is also an EXTREMELY pet friendly place which you really don't find too often for things like this. You can even let your fur friend on the hay ride. My dogs LOVED it. I can't wait to stop through earlier next year to enjoy all the extras like apples, pears, BBQ (yes they have a big BBQ pit out back by the picnic tables), etc. There is a shop with homemade goodies like sauces, salsa, pickled items - all from the farm. A "deli" is attached although they were only serving desserts since it was so late in the year. Admission and parking is free too. Highly recommend. I was informed August is perfect for all the extra fun especially for apple picking!

Yelp
We've been coming to the farm every year since my daughter was 1 and she's now 7. You won't find a more friendly atmosphere and everyone makes you feel welcome! We just visited again last weekend for black berry picking and they're delicious! We also picked pears and will be back soon for our annual pumpkins! You're not charged for hay rides and fun like other farms. This is our favorite farm!

Yelp
We had planned a day in Colorado Springs but when everything was too crowded decided to go to Happy Apple Farm. We are so glad we did! The owners are unbelievably nice. They were really dog friendly and our dogs were so happy romping around the orchard. The BBQ sandwiches were delicious. We bought pickles, apple butter, and apple cider donuts to bring home and it was all amazing. The property is absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately they lost a lot of their crop due to the frost in April but we didn't care it was just a truly "Happy" place to be. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I've never seen a big apple at the Happy Apple Farm. I don't know if my timing is horrible or what, but the apples are usually half-dollar size and covered it big bites. Other times the crops have frozen and there aren't any apples available for the season. We have had some success picking blackberries. The trick is to visit on a Wednesday because the blackberries have matured over the days when the farm is closed to the public. On weekdays be prepared as you'll probably be fighting school kids for the ripest berries. And I will not hesitate to get scrappy with those whipper snappers. Maybe the Happy Apple Farm isn't really about happy apples and instead it's about letting your dogs sniff around, riding the tractor from the parking area to the orchards, and spending time with your family. Maybe that's where the "happy" comes in, and that is good enough to make me visit every year or so.

Yelp
Cute, little farm! They had apples for sale, not really to pick but they had an awesome selection of pumpkins. I loved their fresh green chilies and apple cider. We also got pickles and jam! Worth the drive!

Yelp
We have been to Happy Apple Farm for several years for picking our own fruit. Some years are better than others. We like them because they have berries, apples and pumpkins, but their Apple harvest has been poor the last few years we have visited. We were saddened they didn't have BBQ this year like they have had previous years.

Yelp
This Apple farm is so awesome! They had a great season for apples this year. More and more trees are becoming available to pick this year. Our apples were so tasty! We also grabbed some pie and icecream and they hit the spot. We will be back again for the Fall festival and pumpkin picking. The farmer running the hay ride was phenomenal. He was so friendly and helpful in picking out the tastiest apples and pears! Thank you so much Happy Apple Farm!!!

Yelp
This should be called "Sad Apple Farm." The apple trees were in very sad shape. What was left were small, worm laden, apples. The cider was not ready for their fall festival so we didn't get to buy some of that, which I was really looking forward to. The parking is a big mess, at least on the day we went which was their fall festival day. You have to park along the road or driveway, there is no parking lot and no one directing cars. The berries were also picked over, so we came home nearly empty handed. I passed on the small $18 apple pies. The demand is definitely much greater than the supply for this popular place.

Yelp
It's a nice kind of throwback for a few hours. The fruit haul is pretty minimal, small apples that are few and far between. Good pumpkins though. Delicious cider and homemade jams and good food at the cafe.

Yelp
It is fall and the time of year when I need a fun road trip to get some great fresh produce. Happy Apple is a great pick-it-yourself farm about 2 hours south of Denver. Pay attention as you get close to the town of Penrose because if you don't watch for it you will drive right through town and not realize that you just missed it! The farm is great for picking raspberries, blackberries, and apples. There are lots of varieties of apples but you really have to do some sleuthing to find some that aren't wormy. Another big plus is that dogs are welcome on the farm. So bring your pooch and make sure to come early because they get really busy fast, even during the week. Happy apple hunting!

Yelp
I wanted to like this place so badly! Wanted a simple and quaint experience with our 1 year old..... There were hardly any pumpkins left and it's the beginning of October ...staff is harried and rude. Just kind of blah experience compared to other pumpkin patches I've been to. Perhaps it is better for fruit picking?
google avatar

Richard S.

Yelp
Not that impressed. The apple quality/quantity was poor. I'd maybe visit if I lived close by, but I won't drive an hour one way again.

Yelp
We go ever year and really enjoy ourselves and love picking the fruit and taking pictures. Great family fun

Yelp
This family does not have to open to the public and would probably make more money if they didnt. So stop dishes them...where in colorado can u take your city kids and show them true agriculture. Hats off to Happy Apple Farm

Yelp
We drove from Colorado Springs down to Happy Apple today and were a bit disappointed. The pumpkin patch was very sad, all the pumpkins were pre-picked and laid out for you. Most were soft/rotting and many had been eaten by wildlife. Maybe we hit them on an off year. They do offer a free tractor driven hayride down to the pumpkin patch & back. And there are many cut out signs available to take pics in. Also a small store with cider, apples, etc. to purchase.

Yelp
When we arrived we were feeling blue We were stuck upstream, with no canoe But as we drove into the grove Our spirits were lifted, as through the bushes we sifted We found ourselves letting out hoots as Tony shared with us his fruits The raspberries, bursting with girth, Found in us a new birth The beauty of the berries made us prance, Rest assured, it was love at first glance The smell of the berries caressed our noses, With an aroma sweeter than roses We drove to the lake in order to properly partake With each berry, our spirits were made merry Though with disappointment our day did start, with succulent attitudes did we depart

Yelp
This was our families first trip here, and we had an amazing time! They have free parking and admission and a complimentary hay ride through the farm for apple and/or berry picking. They have apple pickers to reach the higher apples, and plenty of lower apples for the kids to reach. The staff was extremely engaging and friendly. The country store has a variety of jams and marinades, and their fresh apple cider is the best I've ever had. We drove over and hour and half to get here and plan to make this an annual event.

Yelp
For first time visitors, Penrose Colorado in 2014 had a terrible freeze that killed about 1,000 apple trees at Happy Apple Farm. They replanted 800 this year and will replace another 1,000 apple trees in 2017.I recommend you call ahead to get a update on what the picking status is so you are not disappointed.

Yelp
This is our 6th year going here to get our pumpkins and we love it. The kids love the tractor ride over to the patch, even though it really is close enough to walk to. There's always plenty of pumpkins to chose from. The staff is really friendly and the store has a lot of yummy apples and other interesting things like marinades, honey, salsas, jams, etc. The prices are good on everything and you don't have to pay to get in. Plus the drive down there is just really pretty.

Andre G.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Super friendly and welcoming place. Had a great time! The produce is amazing, and it's a great place to bring the family for the day.

Yelp
We had a blast! We picked raspberries and blackberries, I think the kiddos ate about as much as we bought. They were a little picked over! You really had to hunt. I'd say get there early. Got some great pictures. Staff was super friendly. We ate lunch there and it was really tasty. Their apple cider slushy is amazing! We went back and picked apples after lunch. They only had one variety that was ripe but you shouldn't argue with mother nature! The apples were delicious. I have been to better farms but they were in California. This was my first in Colorado and is small but it was a perfect. Our day there was perfect.

Yelp
Not happy at the Happy APple Farm with my kids. We saw their website and it said it was open. Took the hour drive from Monument just for this place. We got there and there were NO apples or Cider or brisket/lunch as advertised on their website. In fact the gal there said today was the last day they are open for the season. The trees/land looked pretty sad too. I grew up in Michigan with Apple/cider farms and my husband was trying to make some new memories here. Unfortunately we won't be back to make the drive due to the false advertising on their site having all these apples there/food, etc. I understand hail/weather contributes a lot for a successful season. Just keep the website going with the truth. Otherwise it's a waste of a drive. Another family made the drive from Colorado Springs too and felt the same thing.... Sincerely, Not Happy

Yelp
Going to The Happy Apple Farm is an absolute must during the Fall season for myself and my family. We have been going for about 20 years. They have a great outdoor orchard complete with berries, apples, and pumpkins. Please keep in mind that it is an outdoor orchard in Colorado and that they see hundreds of people every week. This means that sometimes weather and other conditions such as birds, bugs, and over-picking could play a part in the harvest for the year. The best times to go are early in the morning when they open up during the week. They always recommend that you call beforehand, and if you do you will never be disappointed or feel that you have wasted time or money. Tony and his family are some of the kindest, most hardworking and welcoming people that I know. The amount of time, effort, and love that they put into their work for the people who love this place is truly amazing. This place is definitely the very, very, HAPPY Apple Farm.

Yelp
We have been coming to Happy Apple Farm for 13 years and we love it! For us "city folk" it's a visit to a real working apple orchard. There is nothing as challenging (we can imagine) as working against the wrath of Mother Nature to make and produce a food source--nothing! Tony does a splendid job of covering every aspect of what folks might like, without spoiling, paving, and destroying what nature has created. It's not so commercialized that every single thing is perfect--it's nature at its best. Yes, some years of weather in Colorado (IT'S COLORADO!) are brutal, but we have always been able to get enough apples to make it fun and produce a household favorite--applesauce. We arrive early and have fun. Some years the apples have been so abundant (our kids pick a whopping 100 lbs!), and others the early frost or hail have reaped havoc on the flowers, causing devastation for Tony, but we still had enough to sustain us. This is true farming. No phony, commercial, fake stuff. Oh, and you will see Tony doing everything from driving the tractor with the hay ride to fixing fences to greeting visitors. This IS a labor of love within driving distance of the city.

Breaune M.

Yelp
Our family loved our experience at the Happy Apple Farm. We had a great time making our way through the pumpkins. Tony Ferrara treated our kids like his own and was very welcoming. They had a blast picking candy in the gift shop and the jams were awesome!
