The 13 Best Restaurants In Tacoma - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Yes, this is a fast-food counter in a strip mall, but the Cambodian dishes off the long menu are some of the best you’ll find in the area. Our go-tos are the stir-fried student noodles, to which we like to add prawns, as well as the banh chao, an eggy yellow crepe folded around stir-fried vegetables. The fish sauce-loaded lot cha is another star: a plate of rice noodles, green onions, fried garlic, and chili sauce that’s sprinkled with chili powder, bean sprouts, and toasted crushed peanuts and crowned with a runny fried egg. And the fragrant Khmer beef stew, served with a crusty baguette for dipping, is exactly what we want on a rainy day." - meg van huygen

We’re reviewing Happy Asian Food based on the Cambodian dishes we ordered (not the Chinese food). We had mekathung, samlaw machu krueng, and loc lak — all were flavorful, comforting, and authentic. It tasted like home cooking, and the portions were generous for the price, which we really appreciated. Service was decent, and we truly appreciated how kind and welcoming the staff were. It’s a small team, and you can tell they’re working hard to get everything out as quickly as possible. We didn’t mind the wait — it was worth it. We were on vacation and found this place on Google. I just wish it had been closer to our Airbnb (we were staying near Portland), because we definitely would’ve come back to try more! We’d love to see this Cambodian restaurant continue to thrive. You can tell they’re doing well — especially considering how many food options are around. It's great to see a spot like this getting well-deserved support!

The service was really good but the food was horrible. The orange chicken was way too overcooked to the point that it was too hard to chew, I had to spit it out, and the black pepper chicken was fatty, had to spit that out as well. It’s also 43 degrees outside and the front door was propped open, leaving it freezing. There was also someone letting their dog eat their food and drink out of their drink cups.

For a newer place, it's wasn't too bad. A little different setting than what I'm used to for Cambodian food. (I didn't order from the Chinese side, but the food looked good). Back to the Cambodian side, they had a couple of options that were ready-to-go, and a fuller menu of I think, cook-to-order food. I ordered a cook-to-order eggplant stir fry and a ready-to-go soup (Som law machue) both although not so pretty on the eyes they were delicious 😋. The service was great, the ladies there were really sweet and polite. I will be back to try more of their dishes. If they deserve less stars, I will update this. If I still stand by the 5 star I will leave this as is.

Google
Awesome food for a great price! The staff are always friendly and food fresh. My favorite quick service restaurant in Tacoma. The selection and taste is amazing down to the Styrofoam drink cups and CRUSHED ice! #IYKYK

Never tasted food like this before. The sweet and sour wings and orange chkn are really good. Wish this was in tri cities as well. Good price for the amount of food too.

Google
This is pre-cooked, cafeteria style Asian food. I would not come here again. The spicy orange chicken was not spicy at all. What a shame.

Yelp
(Takeout Review) Great spot for a quick meal! The two girls working are so sweet & got me in and out promptly :) The food is really good too, it was hot & fresh! I got Combo B (chow mein/fried rice, and 2 proteins) The BBQ Pork is so tender & juicy, my favorite item from here! Good food for a really fair price and portion!

The best shrimp fried rice I've had on this coast of the country...pandemonium how tasty this was especially with the teriyaki sauce..the establishment was peaceful friendly diversely located and the service was pleasant as I was offered a water not tap with ice while I wait. Thank you!

Yelp
Everything is delicious there. I always order the banh hoi. The portion is huge. Love this place for Khmer food.

Yelp
Place is quiet, has a bunch of open tables to sit and eat. The food was great! Very flavorful. Service is super fast. Ladies are very nice. They give you a really good amount of food.I definitely will come back again.

Yelp
This place is pretty far from home, so I've only ever wandered around this area and never stopped, but myself and a group of friend stopped by and decided to try all the food. I specifically went as basic as possible and ordered a simple rice bowl with chicken and veggies. The order overall was very affordable, but the serving size was substantial. There was at least a chicken breast and a half of chicken, which was cooked so nicely. The rice was perfectly cooked and the veggies perfectly steamed. I will say I wish there were a few more veggies in the bowl, but that is purely because I like extra veg. My friends ordered quite a bit of the available options, which I can't specifically speak for as I only tried a few bites from any one dish. But everything I tried tasted really good. If I'm in the area I will definitely try this place again, and I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Well, it was interesting first time I when they open at 11am and I got thay at 11:15 that was my mistake I have to sit and wait for my food for one hours, But it was worth it the food was so good and everything I ordered was perfect. The only complain I have was the restaurant was so cold.

Yelp
First off, this place changed its name to Cambodian & Chinese fast food. When you walk in there, you can order a plate of ready to go Chinese American dishes. The usual orange chicken and fried rice, type foods. If you want Cambodian food, you can sit down and order from a restaurant menu. So many choices to choose from. I got the flat noodle (Me-ka-tahng) it was delicious just like how my Ma makes it, just needed a nice fried egg with runny yolk on top. A little squirt of hoisin and sriracha sauce on top and it's perfect. Lot Cha was great, you throw on the fish mixed sauce over the noodles, just make sure you go easy on it, don't want to drown the noodles, and sprinkle that yummy dry chili powder on top. Perfect. So good, I can not wait to bring my friends to try the rest of the dishes on the menu! Service was great and super friendly. Ambiance would be perfect if there was a little more music going on.

Yelp
I've been craving lot cha for a long time and this is the only place that I know that serves it. My partner is Cambodian so he was excited to try this place out too. Yelp has this restaurant listed as Happy Asian Fast Food but the sign on the building is Cambodian and Chinese fast food. When you walk in they have a number of Chinese dishes ready to serve. If you want Cambodian good they give you a menu and they prepare the food for you. The prices aren't bad for the portion of food you get. The flavor of the food and dipping sauces were on point. My only con is they did take long bringing out the food and they don't bring out our dishes at one time, but that's only because it is prepared fresh. We will be going back to try the other dishes.

Yelp
Made an order for pick up. It was ready way before the estimated time. Great food, great service. Will visit again.

Yelp
I was super excited to see a Cambodian sign, but was very sad to see below basic Americanized Chinese fast food take out. The Khmer chef wasn't there that day, so only Chinese food available. I did ask to see the Khmer menu, and 75% of it had sticky notes over the not available items. I'll try again for the Khmer food, but first visit was not impressive.

Yelp
Beef stick was good. A lot of food not available. Call ahead before going. They don't always have a Cambodian cook so you may be disappointed if you go without calling first. Also good takes a long time to come out.

Yelp
Love, love the sautéed veggies and fried rice at this place. I can't wait to try their fried catfish.

Yelp
Originally was planning on going somewhere else but saw this place while I was grabbing boba a few doors door. So happy I stumbled about this restaurant. Their Chinese food is some of the best fast Chinese food I have had and the service was great! I will definitely return when I'm back in the area.

Yelp
I'm super impressed! I ordered it on ubereats so I'm sure it's better and cheaper in person but the food was great and the portion size was huge for the price! I was really surprised at how cheap it was! 10/10 would recommend and will go back

Yelp
Finally found delicious Cambodian food, it's the best one in WA. If you want authentic Khmer food, come on by this pace. We ordered Deluxe Fried Rice, shrimp Sour Soup (Maju Srae), Fried Catfish come With Sdao, salad, cucumber and yummy mango sauce, and Grilled Chicken. Definitely go back for more. Large portion with affordable price. They also have Chinese food to go if you are in hurry. Great customer service! 5 stars

Yelp
The food here is amazing!!!! Both Chinese and Cambodian. Although I wish there were more Cambodian dishes in the deli however you can order off the menu. I was just in a rush so got everything from the deli. People are so nice and sweet. Prices was good. You get really big portions. I'll be back!

Yelp
This place is Awesome!! Best Chinese food I've had in years and their Cambodian food is off the hook! You absolutely should go. The or when chicken and chow me in are super good and their pork belly with egg stew is sooooooo good.

Yelp
Everything taste amazing. Grab your choice of Chinese or Cambodian dishes. Staff were soooo friendly and welcoming

Yelp
Do not order from here or give them your business. At the very least they are prejudice, possibly racist. I went here after going to the gym and they had me take a seat so they could help the white people (who came in well after me) behind me first.

Yelp
I don't have the words to explain how amazing this place is! The food is hot, fresh and delicious. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable, the staff is super friendly. My partner is lovingly referring to it as "panda express on steroids". I have leftovers in the fridge and I'm already looking forward to going back.

Yelp
Back again! And it's ok. The chow main noodles tasted a bit sus but the mushroom chicken is delicious. Didn't get the fried rice bc it looked gross tbh. One of the best egg flower soups I've had just don't burn yourself bc its made to order & comes out like death valley but it has a boat load of egg in it delicious!

Yelp
We tried out this place a second time. We had a good experience ordering off the menu the first time. This time we wanted to try the Cambodian dishes in the hot wells. None of them e were labeled and it's very challenging to get a description of them from the lady wearing a mask behind a plastic shield. We asked for some samples. She was very stingy and would load a plastic spoon with about half teaspoon of sauce from some of the wells. Kind of like it was maybe precious nectar. We decided on two items, a ground mystery meat in oily red sauce and a soupy stew. We sat down. The soupy stew arrived in a large bowl and the oily mystery meat in a small bowl (meager serving!) we asked for rice also. The food was ok but nothing special. We went to pay up. Each entry was about $15.00 and they charged us $5.00 for the rice (almost always free at most restaurants or at best a dollar!!) Our total bill was $39.82 for two entrees and rice. I was very disappointed and felt ripped off. It seemed very pricey for food in a buffet type setting where we did most of the ordering and selecting at the counter.

Yelp
Excited to see another Cambodian restaurant in Tacoma after the last one closed down. First time I went they didn't have Cambodian food available but the other options were good. Better than Panda Express and cheaper. Second time I went they only had a few Khmer foods but I got the beef curry and somlah machu kreung. Both were great and reminded me of home.

Nicole W.

Yelp
The foods here is delicious. The services is great. I just wish that this kind of restaurant is closer to my area. I drove over an hour during traffic to get this delicious foods for my family and extended families.

Yelp
I understand this is a new place and they are working out the kinks, but...I went at 5:30 and very little food out. Order half and half with mushroom chicken and orange chicken. I got home and I didn't have orange chicken in my two item combo. Wasn't impressed with the food. Very bland
