Chicken Chain Popeyes Opens in Austin Mall Barton Creek Square Mall - Eater Austin

"Happy Chicks is opening its fourth overall location in the Quarry neighborhood. It’ll be found at 10611 Research Boulevard starting sometime in the fall. The fast-casual restaurant is taking over what had been the last remaining salad drive-thru Baby Greens, which closed in October 2022." - Nadia Chaudhury

I was so not expecting this place to surprise me the way it did!!! I travel a lot and try new places and sometimes get used to restaurants not caring about the quality of food they serve. Happy Chicks not only provided me with HIGH QUALITY chicken, but top tier customer service! Matt, was so kind, from beginning to end!! I even caught him helping a homeless man get food🥰🥰 instead of saying they can’t give food away! That alone made me a forever customer!! Then I bit into the chicken and was like “Wait, this is real chicken!!” It was hot, fresh, crispy and packed full of flavor! They’re also on the inKind app, and my entire meal cost $0.89 w/ rewards from inKind app. I will definitely be returning!!

here is what you need to know before coming here: getting here is 80% of battle as there's like really only one way in and out no matter what to get to this place and that's off 183 northbound research boulevard between of all things Costco entrance and Wendy's so you could look at this as a strategic location but also extremely difficult to get to especially in rush hour traffic The payoff is to have public restrooms you can ask to use lots of parking once in lots of dining area outside everything's dining area outside or drive through or you can order ahead to pick up in addition I make the mistake I did which was instead of going through the drive-thru I parked walked on over cuz this was my first experience there and with the billboard above their building with the big old light I went to the wrong window which was to pick up window instead of the order window around the other side corner facing the driveway and drive-thru ordering area that being said the lady was very nice hospitable professional I'm at and upon taking my order it didn't take very long to get my order despite it being for Friday night actually them having pretty good business consistently coming through in the drive-thru I'm not ordering a timely fashion and from there but at home to share with my mom and I would say it's pretty straightforward chicken tenders with fries dipping sauces of open to jalapeno sauce or to my mom left and I went with the Chipotle sauce which I definitely loved if you're a fan of Chipotle sauce now so included in mac and cheese I got the number four which gives you four Texas size they say chicken tenders along with fries two dipping sauces and macaroni and cheese to macaroni and cheese was very different as it was breaded with green onions while being nice and creamy while the noodles were firm and not mushy Paul always a decent late night meal I wouldn't say it was the best chicken tenders I've ever had I would definitely say to not the worst and for the money I would definitely say it was definitely not the worst that you could spend and a big highlight is on Sundays kids eat free so I could see how families would come here and use that and there's a big dining outdoor dining area with plenty of room for the kids so I could see how this could be a family focused oriented business catering towards a certain audience not being said next time I'll try to do some different variations of flavors on a chicken tenders you can actually choose to make them either spicy original or even do some other variation that I didn't really explore to deeply that's another option possibly for next time which I'll keep in mind because this place was definitely one that I noted is open early and open late is they got long hours they stay open late

I ordered delivery through uber eats. I had the spicy chicken sandwich and two Happy Salads. The sandwich tasted ok, but it was a pretty sad affair with just a fried chicken patty on two buns and two measly pickles, no other toppings. However, one of the salads had a long piece of plastic inside, hidden under the lettuce. I started to chew and swallow and began to choke so I had to pull it out from my throat. I know for a fact the salad came with it and it wasn’t introduced by me because I ate with a real fork and did not even open the included plastic ware. Overall, I do not recommend Happy Chicks, just go to Chil Fil A down the road (unfortunately closed on Sunday…).

Google
The place was clean, the parking lot spotless, and service was quick. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side for tenders and fries — but the flavor, service, and experience make up for it. I’ll be back to try the spicy tenders next time. If you’re near Research Blvd, swing by and check them out. Your taste buds (and your mood) will thank you. P.S. Cory, don’t come for me — I know there are no pictures. Next round (spicy tenders!), I got you.

This place is great! You gotta try it. Their prices are more than fair - I was surprised the listed cost also included a drink. When I arrived, I took a moment to check out the menu. Blaze behind the walk up window was exceptionally friendly and informative. I went for the #2 original with garlic ranch and honey mustard sauce to try. The tenders came out super fresh and steamy, with very tasty crisp breading. The fries are seasoned well, with a slight sweet finishing taste. Even the sauces were a win. Both were fresh, creamy, and ample servings. This place exceeded my high expectations - I will definitely be back! Highly recommended for your chicken tenders and nuggets fix. They only lost a star on atmosphere because of the difficulty in getting in/out of the parking lot. At the time I visited, it was rainy so the outdoor seating area was empty. There is a drive through and pick up window for ahead of time orders, which seem to be the preferred way to enjoy this delicious spot. You can't go wrong if you get their chicken though.

Used to come here so much, but won’t be coming back after this quality. Burger is insanely thin, it’s ridiculous!! $9 for a combo with 20 individual french fries… they used to load it up! No clue what happened but this is just sad and disappointing. Not good burgers anymore. Go to Popeyes

I absolutely love Happy Chicks! I always order the spicy chicken wrap and it is filled with delicious meaty chicken and the fancy lettuce and the perfect sauce ratio. Every time Also their fries are great. I’m a huge fan and tell everyone I can

Google
This new chicken #joint #HappyChicks is one of the best places I have had in a while....☺️ I'm not really a fan of chicken tenders and I don't eat them quite often. I figured I give this place go because they havem be brave to open up a chicken place on the same block as Chick-fil-A. I got The classic chick 4-Piece tender 2 spicy 2 original a #KrazyChick with two dipping sauces with their signature mac and cheese oh my God. Their tenders are definitely competing with the top competition and chicken establishments such as kanes, Popeyes, KFC, Church's Chicken, Golden chick I'll be going back again it was so delicious and the food was made to order and still hot by the time I made it to the house. I don't usually eat my fries but I ate these all the way to the last one I am definitely recommending this establishment to everybody to go try this out.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious!!!!! Excellent quality!!! I have been dying to try this place. Did not disappoint. Staff were super nice and the food excellent!! Chicken sandwich was amazing. Jalapeño ranch was perfect! And fries so yummy. Thank you for being here!

Yelp
We grabbed a quick bite while in Austin. The food portions were significant. The food was bland. The drive-thru took a long time to get out order ready.

Yelp
I've eaten at happy chicks on burnet several times and had a great experience. Was stoked to see this location had a drive through. Ordered chicken strips and a biscuit since I was starving and was hoping to enjoy the biscuit on the way home. Def out of luck! It was hard as a brick. Absolutely embarrassing and no way it should have been served. Everything else was fine as usual, but this was a definite misstep.

Yelp
The tenders: Easy four stars. Hot crispy and juicy. Ordered the "spicy" tenders and they were more like spiced raster than spicy but regardless. They were delicious! The fries: Unfortunately three stars. Even at their best these fries aren't great in my opinion. Looks, fries are a polarizing subject, I know. I'm not a fan of the battered fries. The location is tragic but I really hope they make it. I'm going to support them regardless because it's a hard location. Service was quick and easy. Will return.

Yelp
As if the street and parking lot around Costco wasn't busy enough, here's another reason fight the traffic. Happy Chicks is worth the effort. It's a drive-thru take out place that will have you back in traffic in no time. The fried chicken tenders were fresh and savory. The French fries also had great flavor. The Mac & cheese and creamed corn sides are not car friendly, so I passed on those. Raising Canes was my go-to place for chicken strips, but Happy Chicks, although a bit more expensive, is taking its place. Also on the menu: boozy drinks and beer.

Yelp
Really cute outdoor seating area or drive thru. Really great meat or vegan options. Food was ready fast too

Yelp
I got the chicken nuggets and they were huge and very satisfying. They were a little salty for me, but I would definitely get them again. I worry that this location won't get enough traffic due to the location. There used to be a place I liked here called Terraburger and I would visit often (they had amazing sweet potato fries), but they went out of business and I'm pretty sure it was because it's just a hard location to get to. There's a Costco right behind it but there's no way to get to Happy Chicks from Costco. If they could convince Costco to pave a way to the restaurant somehow, they would have tons of business overnight. Probably too much for them to handle. Lastly, I highly recommend ordering ahead as everything is made to order and fresh. You will have to wait longer than your standard fast food restaurant if you drive up and order.

Yelp
My review is based on the food. We love this chicken!!! And the Mac n cheese with scallions is awesome. Both locations are great . I actually like it better than Chick Fil A!! We highly recommend it.

Yelp
This place should be called Depressing Chicks. I went for the first time today. The filet that came in my sandwich was incredibly tiny, like 1/3 the size of the bun (maybe like 1.5x a chicken strip) . The hot honey sauce was really mid, and my drink was totally flat. The ONLY good thing that wasn't somehow ruined were the fries which were pretty good. If you want a good meal or good value for your money, look elsewhere- this place ain't it. $11 for a tiny piece of chicken and flat soda...

Yelp
Yummy Chicken and plenty of good sauces to choose from. It made a great mid night snack after being out on the town. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had a nice little crunch in every bite. It wasn't processed mystery meat, it was for real fresh cut chicken breast. Can I say juicy? Because it was juicy. We really enjoyed this tiny little but big on favor chicken spot.

Yelp
Can't recommend Happy Chicks enough! I've been to other locations before, but recently stopped by for lunch to try out the new location. First off, super convenient location right off 183. Second, the food was definitely fresh and tasted fantastic! Chicken was fried to perfection and wasn't bland like many other chicken places. And tons of sauce options, especially for you ranch lovers. Sides were very solid too, the cream corn was a delightful surprise as I hadn't tried it before. Third, the service was absolutely top tier. Drive thru was super quick, the staff was very pleasant, and my order was 100% correct! Will definitely be back very soon. Give them a try if you haven't yet, you won't regret it!

Yelp
I just waited at the window for about 10 minutes while the lady taking the money was passed out. I started to call 911 because maybe she was having a medical issue then she wakes up she's got a mask on like maybe she's really sick. I already paid my money and I'm gonna pass on those sandwiches. You can keep themridiculous

Yelp
I'm sorry. I was really hoping this would be a good place to grab a chicken tender and I love that it has a drive through on 183. So I finally went the other day and spent $8 for one chicken tender and a small creamed corn. I thought that wasn't a terrible deal for a small meal. The chicken tender was big and had beautiful breading, but it was terribly dry. The flavor of the cream corn was divine but I swear there was barely a tablespoon mixed in with the creamy stuff! So no. I won't be back. There's too many good choices in this town. You gotta do it right in a foodie town or you won't make it. Maybe it was just a bad day? I'll never know.

Yelp
Great food great price kinda slow though high hopes for the future! I got a absolty d ed Lucius grilled chicken sandwhich better than chick fil a and was cheaper

Yelp
Super duper yummy food. The portions were generous, and made with quality ingredients. My only complaint was that I had to wait a long time in the drive through. I almost missed my subsequent appointment. I also had to eat much quicker that I would have liked. Otherwise, the location was accessible, and it the feel/vibe of a traditional "chicken stand".
google avatar

Tom M.

Yelp
The chicken is good and great sauce selection, but what psychopath thought it was a good idea to put scallions on Mac and cheese? AND surprise me with it? I feel like that should be on the menu as a warning if you insist on ruining Mac and cheese with it.

Yelp
my little boy wanted chicken strips an we wanted to try something new. so he decided Happy Chick sounded good. we started ordering and saw a 'Vegan' option for me! Fantastic Food and service :)

Caitlin S.

Yelp
I have enjoyed the other Happy Chicks locations in town and was excited to try this one as well. I didn't give it more stars because when you order ahead, you have to park and walk up to the window. I have never been to a drive-thru location where you have to walk up if you order ahead. It is raining and wanted to make it easier on both of us. The grilled wrap is not worth it! The chicken is nothing special and is basically a salad wrapped in a tortilla with a few pieces of chicken.

Dancing S.

Yelp
First time ordering and never again! I ordered two of their PRICEY kids meals (almost $18 for two). They forgot both of the fruit cups and the drinks! The drinks I caught them when I picked up the order. Then I opened up the order when I got home and no fruit cups! Were they sleeping when they packed up the food? For this price and quality, never again! Did I mention the chicken were so bland?!

Kadin H.

Yelp
Solid chicken spot. The chicken was crispy and juicy, fries were average, and mac n cheese was good as well. I like that they have a big sauce selection, I went with the jalapeño ranch and the garlic ranch. Prices were pretty reasonable too. Give them a try
