Decades-Old Happy Days Diner Is Closed in NYC - Eater NY

"Diners continue their death march in New York City: The latest victim seems to be Happy Days Diner in Brooklyn Heights. The spot had been on Montague Street for over 20 years and had allegedly not paid rent since February 2020, according to Brooklyn Paper. A Marshal’s eviction notice appeared on the door and the phone line is disconnected. In 2000, the diner’s rent was $7,750, and by 2020 it was $21,095, the publication reports. Once a 24-hour fixture, during the pandemic the diner scaled back its hours to close at 10 p.m." - Emma Orlow

"For lunch I met up with Avery Trufelman, who is fresh off a run as the host of The Cut podcast. We sat outside at Happy Days in Brooklyn Heights, a pleasantly rundown diner with a halfhearted ’50s theme (glittery blue vinyl seats, photos of Frank Sinatra on the wall, etc)."

Perfect little diner in Brooklyn Heights! It’s never crowded and the food is great. They have outdoor seating right on Montague St as well. We’ve come here several times and the food is always good. I recommend the Reuben, the chicken fingers and the pizza burger, classics and delicious. So nice to have a quality diner in the neighborhood.

Google
Great small diner. Food was excellent (great cheese steak, grilled cheese on multigrain was also great, Greek salad was large and well-made, fries were done just right). The service was fast — the wait was barely over 10 minutes for the food, we got our beverages almost immediately. Very laid back atmosphere.

Google
I mean, the food is good, if you get 'diner food', the other foods are to taste and basic. I mean you won't get the best of something if it is t specific to any particular cuisine. The breakfast is good. The place is either quiet or crowded lol enjoy.

Google
Well, I did want to like this place but after this last time... I'm done. Red velvet cake should be like velvet. Not like a hard rock. And then they put a thin slice of a different type of cake underneath it that had chocolate in it. What if I were allergic to chocolate? This is completely unacceptable and ridiculous. I just tossed it I was so pissed. The beef sausage as what I really wanted and over cooked it!!! The eggs were great! Potatoes were ok.

Google
Staff is friendly, it opens 24 hours, restaurant itself is neat and tidy. Even the food is just soso, still qorth to go during late night time as majority of the restaurant has closed already. Nothing much can be recommended, si the food is not outstanding, but at least not bad. At least i can finish them all. They offer set dinner with soup or salad and a glass of pop or wine. Cheap indeed.

Ideal time to come is after 7am where there are more server. Breakfast comes in generous proportion. Beacons are always extra crispy!

Google
American diner open 24 hours with very large menu choice ranging from salads to sandwiches and steaks. Pies and cakes available for dessert. Friendly service

Google

Yelp
Really excellent. The grilled cheese and tomato soup were so great, and the pancakes were perfect for our kids. (One order was more than enough for them.) We also loved the latkes. Probably a bit behind S&P on the new-ish diner list for me, but this was excellent in its own right.

Yelp
You want nostalgia, good food, great service, and just a general vibe: come to Montague Diner. Drinks were refreshing to wash down some delicious diner classics. Also shoutout to whoever was on the AUX, unreal playlist that set the base to a lovely dining experience.

Yelp
Honestly 10/10. I don't totally get the complaints about it not being a diner. I mean it's NYC, but it's also a much better / higher quality so it's expensive for a typical diner. But to me it definitely still has diner vibes. And standard things like a bacon, egg and cheese is cheap at $9 so you can get a cheaper meal if you want. The host is fantastic - calm, well organized, kind! And was like that with everyone we watched him interact with after we sat down. I don't know I feel like thats rare in NYC so wanted to mention! We waited 30 mins for 2 people on Sunday morning at 10am without a reservation. As we were eating and leaving, I heard the host saying two people would be closer to 45 mins without a reservation. As a heads up, we couldn't order the dinner menu at 10:30am which like may be assumed lol but my fiance wanted the giant grilled cheese so if you're going for that viral grilled cheese, can't get at breakfast. We split banana pancakes and the syrup was really good! I got the steak and eggs per another yelp review and honestly the steak was really fricken good!! Seasoned and marinated soooo well! My fiance got the smoked salmon plate which came with a good amount of salmon and very satisfying! Overall we really enjoyed it and can't wait to go back for lunch / dinner!

Yelp
Very cool traditional diner vibe with a modern twist. I only got their hot chocolate to escape the biting cold that day. Unfortunately I paid 7 dollars for a very disappointing cup. I would come back to try their food.

Yelp
Very charming throwback with booths ", vintage music & chef cred. Ate: Cup of tomato soup Side of veggies Total $15/lunch They didn't have the hippie Sandy sadly or I would've ordered that. The soup & veggies were delectable and I will be back for the dinner specials. PS toilet sink should be repaired or replaced and paper towels were overflowing from garbage a restaurant turn off.

Yelp
We made a rezzy for brunch Saturday at noon and our table was ready without any delay. The restaurant itself is sort of an updated, retro diner vibe, spacious, not super cramped, with small booths along one side and countertop seating on the other. The menu is stocked with standard diner dishes, and the ones we got were delicious. I got two eggs over easy with turkey, bacon, home fries, and toast while my husband got the steak and eggs with chimichurri sauce. My food was all cooked and seasoned well (some actually over easy eggs for once!) while my husband's steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned too. One of the best chimmichuri sauces I've had in a long time. His eggs were also exactly to order. Service was super efficient and friendly. I would absolutely visit again for another meal and look forward to doing so.

Yelp
The pancakes are amazing!!! Really fluffy w a slight crisp. So delicious. Wld skip the cold brew - just drip over ice and quite watered down for me

Yelp
This diner is terrible. My wife and I wanted to like it. We were looking forward to trying it for a while, since it's the only diner left in the area. But the food was almost inedible (how do you screw up a cheeseburger and fries that badly?). We had to force ourselves to eat our $20 cheeseburgers-- they were that bad. And, on top of that, the place is not well cared for. There were leftover black beans on our table around the ketchup, and the staff didn't seem to care at all about the cleanliness of the place. The bathroom was also badly in need of attention. I don't often write reviews, but this was a truly disappointing dining experience.

Yelp
Fantastic f**king cheeseburger. One of the best I've had in NYC since I've moved out here. I got the Montague Burger and I've been thinking about it for about a week now. The cook they got on my burger was quite impressive. Perfectly medium rare in the center with a perfectly seared crust on the outside. Cheese was perfectly melted, and the bacon was unreal. Fries were hot and crispy, but they are your standard battered fries. Still not bad at all, and I loved that they bundle the burgers with fries. For $22, it was a fantastic value. It's about the same price as the burger at Clark's down the road, but Montague has better hours and feels more like a trendy cocktail bar at night than a diner. I can't wait to try other menu items, but right now, I'm fixated on that burger.

Yelp
This is a cute place. I was psych to score a reservation on Resy. I had scrambled eggs, sausage and roasted potatoes and OJ. The ambience is cute. The service is great. The neighborhood is great. I would definitely recommend coming here.

Anjali B.

Yelp
I've tried to get in here a couple of times but it's been quite packed. The inside is so cute and very retro esque. The service is very nice and normal paced. I've been twice both around 9pm on Fridays. Definitely make a reservation which sounds crazy for a diner but necessary since they just opened. Ive had the grilled cheese (7/10), pickle dish(9/10), and fries(9/10). Everything is good and i definitely want to go back and try the pancakes. Reasonably priced, good for a diner, the neighborhood was in definite need of a cute place like this. I love how late they stay open too! No complaints and can't wait to return.

Yelp
Had a chill brunch with friends on a Sunday with good weather. This location has an old school vibe with feel good items on the menu. No outside seating. Their notable pairing to order is the champagne and fries! A little on the pricy side, but the fries are crisp and hit the spot. Had to ask for some of our sandwiches to be created since they weren't offered like a BLT and Chicken Sandwich, but once we asked, they were kind enough to make them for us and they came out well.

Yelp
This place is the best place everrrr! The people were so kind!!! The food was amazing too, our server Sarah was literally the sweetest ever, and the ambiance in here is very relaxed. Very warm lighting and music in the background. And the food isn't expensive either!! Come here 100%

Yelp
This place was packed today! Makes complete sense because everything looks super cute and it's a beautiful day out, but I really wasn't expecting a 1-hour wait for this new spot at lunchtime (they barely opened!) and it had gone up to 2 hours by the time we finished our lunch. While the vibe gets 5 stars from me, the food/service still have a long way to go. We ordered the following: * Fresh squeezed OJ: Really small glass of minute-maid tasting OJ, we confirmed that it was freshly squeezed this morning but our waitress was kind enough to take it away/cancel it from our check * Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich: Thick slab of bacon and cheddar on fluffy scrambled egg atop a soft roll! This was so-so, it needed seasoning and I splashed some Tabasco on it. Overall too soft for my taste... I was also surprised to hear that they were out of sausage when my bar neighbor tried to order it! * Crispy potatoes: Also on the underseasoned side! They were definitely browned on the outside but it's a stretch to call them crispy. The insides were nice and soft, with the outsides perfectly matching. I added salt/pepper and a lot of ketchup. * Hippie sandwich: This healthy vegetarian-friendly sandwich was crisp and refreshing! A wee bit on the small side, it definitely needs something besides the added pickle to fill you up. * Fries: My highlight of the meal! French fries with a rugged and golden-crisp exterior, perfect for holding on to all the ketchup you could ever want. It felt like (but I didn't time it so I could've been a wee bit hangry) a 15+ minute wait for our items, and eventually a bowl of potato chips was placed in front of each group sitting at the bar but this didn't help much since it appeared after our meal... there were some other items on the menu that caught my eye such as the Early Bird Special (eggs, bacon/sausage, toast, and a drink) for less than $15, as well as some dinner items such as the Steak Frites and Broccolini but I'll wait a couple months for them to work things out before heading back.

Yelp
Have been twice for the egg salad sandwich - it's great! However today we were given our check 45 mins after we were seated and told they needed our table for a reservation. 45 mins! Come on... surely an hour is the minimum and even then, only if mentioned upon booking (which it wasn't).
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Food was good, but it all seemed like it was trying too hard. To take over an old diner space and renovate to still try to evoke the spirit of an old diner space it was missing the grit and age that comes with time. Even at the bar there were chairs rather than the stools needed to really be more acurate. Unfortunately a lot of the actual old diners are closing and this may be the only types of option in the future, but creating a faux old-timey atmosphere and then charging more because it's new and requires a whole reservation system is not the way to go. There are still a handful of real diners in the area. Go there.
google avatar

Sydney L.

Yelp
Not a diner. Walked into an empty place at 8:30AM on a Sunday morning and was asked if we had a reservation. Bizarre. Then, husband ordered the two eggs breakfast over medium and was given over hard eggs. He asked for new eggs, again over medium, and the waiter didn't know what over medium was. At a self-proclaimed "diner" the morning waitstaff don't know standard egg cooks? Service in general was cold and disinterested, coffee was weak, food was mediocre and overpriced, and nothing about this place is an actual diner. Go to Clark's, go to Cobble Hill, I would even go to Grand Canyon before this place if what you're looking for is a diner.
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
Staff was nice and ambience was nice enough and food was ok. Omelette was bland, the Cole slaw was too vinegary, and the total was so crunchybthere was no potato inside them. That being said the mozzarella sticks while I didn't have them looked killer and friends said was great but for me it was meh

Yelp
This is such a cute little Diner to meet up with friends and family. It's a great place to get a local vibe and get away from the city--there are many food options for everyone. I love breakfast for Dinner. Friendly, helpful staff :)

Wilson W.

Yelp
10/10 without a doubt! Very unique vintage feel. The staff is incredibly kind and the food is unbelievable! It is honestly hard to believe that it just opened. .. I will definitely be coming back. Overall: incredibly well run, great food, and affordable!

Yelp
Landed at JFK, 9:00 pm, staying in BH, hungry, looking for casual, fresh comfort food w/an easy creative edge. A vibe, a total bonus. Only option at 9:30pm (plus one bar) The Montague. Ordered breakfast for supper, blueberry pancakes, real maple syrup (thank you montague) a loaded custom scramble & creamy ice cold milk shakes. Deeelish. Service is smart, efficient & kind. Ambiance cool, calm & the additional bonus, soft pink dinner lighting so everyone look beautiful. Been back multiple times. Love this joint.

Yelp
Lame. Not a real diner. Go to Clark's instead. Walked in at 5 on a rainy sunday afternoon. Five tables open and two booths and the smug little kid at the hostess desk says, "40 minute wait". I don't know what dictionary definition of a "diner" these folks are using, but it's pretty lame and pretentious. Go to Clark's instead. Great food, service and people who know how to run a business.

Yelp
Good food. Gre service. Check it out if you're in the area. I was happy with ordered.

Yelp
Omg the aesthetic is so tastefully done with so many thoughtful details. A time warp but not in an in your face kitschy way. It already feels like a neighborhood staple. The burger and milkshake were slammin' and the fries were perfectly crispy and delicious. I can't wait to try more breakfast items and the latkes next! Oh and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. I Love that they are open from 6am-11. Definitely planning on becoming a regular!
google avatar

Hiral M.

Yelp
I saw a lot of negative reviews on here complaining that it's not a "diner." I think that's the point. It has taken a dumpy place - happy days - and redone it in a beautiful retro style. It has a great ambiance and is always buzzing with people from the neighborhood. The food is good and standard fare and reasonably priced for Brooklyn Heights. Service is warm and friendly and it's a welcome addition to the burgeoning Brooklyn Heights restaurant scene. Definitely check it out!
google avatar

Bre L.

Yelp
Food was good - nothing special - but good. But the volume of children in the restaurant running around or parents walking their children thru the already small crowded space made dinner unpleasant. I get it there's plenty of kids in bk heights, but for a Friday evening dinner hanging out at a daycare not my vibe.
google avatar

Jeffrey K.

Yelp
After a mediocre breakfast I wanted to give this restaurant another shot. While the service was much better the meal simply is not worth the price. Had a burger bowl of soup and a piece of Pie. Burger was small but tasty. The price Was almost 50 dollars with tax and tip. Will not be back.

Yelp
Since it's recent renovation, this former old-school greasy spoon has been packed. So today, I finally decided to see for myself. Well, it's still a greasy spoon, albeit with much nicer styling and a $85 bottle of wine on the menu. My latkes were too crip, too salt, and the apple cause was a 'canardly' (you can hardly see it). To top things off, they were out of ice tea! That really takes some doing! The only highlight was a customer, who presented one of the wait staff with a bunch of sunflowers. That was a truly heartwarming NYC moment.

Jeane K.

Yelp
Straightforward hot, fresh, delicious honest food, that's what I like! My spinach and feta omelet was Parisian quality. The waitress was personable and attentive. My grapefruit juice was kissed by the Florida sun, the dessert cookie, outstanding .

Yelp
The old Happy Days diner had been closed for several years and we were eagerly awaiting a new food venue on the block. Montague Diner opened yesterday (March 18) and has been an instant favorite! Very nice retro feel, lighting and booths, with a beautiful (original?) tile floor. The staff is very upbeat, friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent diner fare. This is the true diner we've been waiting for in Brooklyn Heights! We had the American burger, cooked medium rare as requested, with excellent French fries, and a very good grilled cheese sandwich paired with an extraordinary tomato soup. We also enjoyed chocolate (with chocolate shavings throughout!) and vanilla milkshakes. We finished with the banana cream pie - a delight! Prices are very reasonable (our tab was under $65!). They also serve wine and beer but their selection right now is a bit limited. It's open daily from 6am-11pm, and we plan to return soon to try their dinner menu. We wish them great success here, and have no doubt they will develop a faithful following.
google avatar

Ilan F.

Yelp
The Montague Diner looks like a luncheonette with a counter and booths. I had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich as a main course, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. The service was good.
google avatar

Rabiya I.

Yelp
i'm glad there's a diner in this area again... but it was a 30 min wait and the staff aren't the friendliest (our waitress did not seem the happiest to be there). the fries and tater tots were decent and grilled cheese was good, pancakes fluffy but milkshake and hot chocolate (cold) were not my cup of tea. and it was $60 before tip... not really diner prices. i'm not gonna go out of my way to visit again but would stop by late night if i need a snack and nothing else is open.

Jewels M.

Yelp
I went there for an early lunch with my husband. I remembered when it was the Happy Days diner and was happy that a new diner replaced the space. We both ordered the turkey club. It's $16.00 for the sandwich and $4.00 extra for fries. I have been going to diners all my life in NY and my favorite thing to always order is a turkey club. The club served here was sad. It was a weak turkey sandwich with wilted brown lettuce and one slice of bacon. Not good at all! There are so many other diners in the hood that will truly serve you an amazing club. Stay away from this place.

Frannie B.

Yelp
New rendition of a tired diner-now hip and busy! I have had the pancakes twice and adore them! Real maple syrup and butter guys! Service is nice-everyone in the restaurant is friendly and cheerful. Family friendly-great touch. The first time, the pancakes came without blueberries. The manager insisted upon taking them back to receive new ones! After that she comped my lunch with a friend. How's that! Wonderful new addition! Also heard the potato pancakes are amazing

Yelp
UNHAPPY DAYS AT MONTAGUE DINER To much fanfare and social media buzz, Montague Diner opened recently in the former Happy Days Diner space. Yes, I get it. It's like an elevated Diner experience. Unfortunately, not elevated quite enough as far as I am concerned. Walking in on a dreadfully windy and rainy night, we were greeted by a "host" who could only be described as cold and indifferent. We changed our reservation from 4 to 5 people earlier in the afternoon yet were were brought to a booth for 4. The food was hit or miss. "The best French fries I ever had in my life" said two in our group. I thought grilled cheese and tomato soup sounded like a great choice on such a miserable night. Expecting something like a gooey gruyere and a delicious bread, what I got instead tasted like Wonder bread and Kraft singles. The tomato soup looked like French dressing and tasted weird. Others liked their entrees, some felt it was so-so and one thought the steak portion was skimpy for the steak frites. Here's where they really failed. I ordered pecan pie and a friend asked if they could put a candle in it. The waitress said "we don't have any candles." First of all, what restaurant doesn't have a candle? Second, how about trying your best by delivering the pie with a votive candle on the pie plate? Nope. They didn't care that I came to their restaurant to celebrate my birthday. By the way the pecan pie tasted like it came from Key Food up the street. The place is new. They deserve time to get their bearings so I will give it another try soon. But first impressions made me unhappy.

Yelp
I only give positive reviews, so I really hate doing this, but if you're going to replace a nostalgic, neighborhood restaurant with a hip, chic, overpriced, new spot you need to at least make a good grilled cheese, especially when you have it on your menu. twice (big and small size). I had high hopes for Montague Diner because my friends and I used to go there back when it was Happy Days - and we have the best memories. From the second I walked in I was excited... pink lighting, a slight buzz in the atmosphere.... the booths looked inviting, although once I sat in them they were a tad bit small. I was 47 minutes late and my friends ordered because they were strongly encouraged to, as not to keep the table too long. After sitting at the table for several minutes I had to flag down a member of the staff and ask for a menu. By the time I received my menu my friends entrees had arrived. I took a look at the dishes hoping to be inspired, but all I saw in front of me was disappointed faces. Amanda's grilled cheese was not melted. At all. It looked like two lightly toasted pieces of sourdough with 2 slices of American cheese in the middle. Served with a tomato soup that literally was separating and looked either extremely watered down or oily... either way- not good. The side... quartered chunks of raw green tomato. Gross. Where were the pickles?! They were on the menu, as a "snack" for $6. Monica asked for cheddar cheese for her grilled cheese. Her bacon was barely cooked and she received American cheese. We sent both dishes back and asked for Amanda's grilled cheese to be melted and Monica's bacon to be cooked and cheese to be cheddar. By the time their dishes came back to the table, my order had arrived. I had ordered pancakes with blueberries and chocolate chips. My pancakes had strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and chocolate chips. What if I had an allergy to strawberries? What if I just didn't want them. ON THEIR MENU IT SAYS PANCAKES w/BLUE BERRIES & CHOCOLATE CHIPS. So if you order that be prepared to get strawberries and blackberries as well. Nevertheless, they tasted great. Really good pancakes. Amanda's grilled cheese ROUND 2 was still barely melted. Monica's grilled cheese ROUND 2 STILL HAD THE WRONG CHEESE. We tried to send it back but, as apologetic as the staff was, the mistake remained on our table. So the pancakes were good. But this spot was really disappointing. Just rookie mistakes, no pride in what you're doing... no love in the food. Flagging down staff for water... just do better.

Nina M.

Yelp
We had breakfast last weekend and the highly anticipated Montague Diner! While the decor was great, bright and cheery, the service and food left something to be desired. We made a reservation knowing that it would be busy. When we entered the hostess didn't look up when we walked in to greet us and took a few minutes to do so until an issue she was dealing with was resolved. No biggie, but just nice to be acknowledged even with a smile or eye contact. When we were seated the server was really friendly. We ordered two eggs any style and a bagel. The sausage was really hard and chewy and the bagel was stale and untoasted. I noticed the juices were not fresh squeezed. Wasn't expecting 5 star diner food but wasn't really up to expectation for the area and for the overall vibes and prices. Overall pretty so so. We might give this place one more shot since I really want them to be successful!!!

Sharon R.

Yelp
Some friends and I recently ate at the new diner in Brooklyn Heights, Montague Diner. We were able to grab a reso and were seated, without a long wait. The diner has everything going for it. It's gorgeous, and a place that feels so comfortable to have a good meal. The staff is really nice and efficient. The food is definitely diner and simply delicious. We're so happy that Brooklyn Heights has finally gotten a diner to be proud of.

Yelp
What a lovely Diner, good food and service and atmosphere. Definitely my new favorite spot to stop by for quick bite.

Brian R.

Yelp
Place is overwhelmed. Went for lunch and waited close to an hour for food. Pancakes and tuna melt arrived cold. Expensive for a "diner" as well, but it clearly has higher aspirations. But to achieve them they'll need far more staff and cooks.

Yelp
PSA: Save your money and eat elsewhere! We had the worst dinner we've had in the neighborhood since moving here 15 years ago. Brooklyn Heights and the surrounding neighborhoods are chock full of restaurants with great food and service - don't waste any time or money here - you'll pay $38 an entree paired with non-existent service. The service that was so bad it shocked even my kids. Tonight we were seated for a full 15 minutes before I was able to flag our waitress down (and even then I had to get the attention of another waiter who said he would get our waitress). This is despite the fact that the restaurant was 30 percent full at best on a Sunday night around 7:30 p.m. The waitress, who acted as if we were bothering her, took our order and, some time after, came back to say she'd forgotten what my daughter ordered. She finally got the order in and we got our food. The entrees we ordered were $38 each - not cheap by any means - and no one asked how our food was, causing me to hunt another waiter down (ours was nowhere to be found) to ask for salad dressing since mine came without any. At the end of our meal, I got up to find our waitress to say I we needed our check. She disappeared, presumably to get it, and never came back (I found her again and she said she'd forgot). This didn't seem like an isolated incidence - many of the reviews point to the same lack of service - and the wait staff seemed much more interested in talking to each other than any customers in the restaurant. When leaving the place, I asked to see the manager and was told that she'd left early, which did not surprise me in the slightest.

Grant V.

Yelp
It's diner food, but on a whole other level. I'm slowly making my way through their menu, but it's hard not to order repeats when it all tastes this good. Their menu has all the classics you want and lots of surprises you didn't know you needed. The staff is so kind, and even when they are slammed will stop what they're doing to bring you what you need. It's warm and cozy, it almost feels like you're on a film set. It's obviously they really thought this place out. If you're a morning person, get there for the early bird special. Or bring some friends for lunch and share their huge grilled cheese (+ orange wine!!) With a "pancake split" for dessert. And to my surprise it's a totally different vibe at night. Candles, chef specials, mood lighting, nice music. A beautiful date spot if your date has taste. Montague Diner is just what this neighborhood (and my belly) needed.

Mariel M.

Yelp
We loved everything about this new spot in BK heights. The staff were attentive and friendly, the vibe is nostalgic and cool, and the food was delicious. The menu is curated and deliberate and there are lots of thoughtful details throughout, like old guest checks, a gum-ball machine, and consistent coffee refills. 10/10 would recommend for breakfast or lunch. Definitely coming back for dinner.

Rachel F.

Yelp
I've now been to the Montague Diner three times and after today's experience, I don't know if I will be returning. We ordered Diet Coke and didn't receive our drinks for almost an hour. We were then told they were out of Diet Coke when we asked where our drinks were. My friend found a tiny rock in her grain bowl and the tomato soup was beyond salty. Service was terrible.

Yelp
An exciting new addition to the neighborhood. Some service kinks still to work out (we had to ask for glasses of water halfway through our meal, etc.), as to be expected. We had the "early bird" special (eggs, toast, potatoes, choice of bacon/sausage, coffee and juice - $13.50): It was fine, basic, nothing special -- but I feel it *could* be, if ever-so-slightly (perhaps season the potatoes?), at least to distinguish it from the same combo at any ordinary diner that exists in the area (which charge less) . The plate also came without butter and jam, which for a place intended to be a take on the classic American diner, strikes me as an oversight. The morning we went, the room was busy and buzzy -- felt good. I wish them success!

Yelp
This place was a warm hug. The burger, the shake, the ice tea - this is what it's all about. Perfect place to get inspired and take out a Moleskene and write.

Yelp
Bottom line: not a vast selection of food you'd expect from a diner. Which is fine if the food was great but it's very mediocre, portions are small, and it's overpriced. Except the burger and fries which is adequately priced and tastes fine but that's about it. Have been here about 4 times and wanting to give it a chance but everything I've had except the burger was very small and not worth it. Some of the servers were fine, others go out of their way to ignore you. Hope it's just new restaurant syndrome.
