"Happy Donuts is now closed on the corner of Flat Shoals and McPherson avenues in East Atlanta. Calls to the number listed for Happy Donuts offer up a busy signal, and a note taped to the front door of the 24-hour doughnut shop reads, “We have closed permanently. Thank you for being our valued customers all these years.” The link to order online is also disabled. An employee of Happy Donuts tells Eater the owner’s ongoing health issues may have factored into the decision to close the shop. As to what might replace Happy Donuts, that’s still up in the air. However, the employee says they did encounter “scouters” from the Original Hotdog Factory in the shop “a couple of times” prior to the closure. Open for two decades, Happy Donuts was a longtime staple for East Atlanta residents seeking both morning and late-night bites, including doughnut flavors like red velvet and maple-glazed and cheese danishes, as well as bagel and biscuit sandwiches." - Beth McKibben

Found this spot this morning. I had an egg and cheese croissant and my husband had the Steak biscuits. We both had hashbrowns. I also purchased 2 donuts. My breakfast sandwich was okay. The egg was fresh cracked then microwaved. The glazed donut was good but the Apple Spice was nasty. I will return. The staff was really friendly.

Cannot stress enough how good their regular coffee is. Stopped in and was told I had to have the coffee. It did not disappoint. I've also had the iced coffee which is great as well. Highly recommend!

Pleasant owner and she was so good with the kids and threw in extra cookies for them

Found this shop on my way to work and the Lady was so nice! I got a delicious English muffin with sausage, egg and cheese, two donuts with a medium iced coffee. The coffee was a little too sweet but enjoyable and the donuts were pretty good!

Enjoyable non-chain donut joint. Visiting Atlanta and decided to give them a try. I got my standard test of a glaze, chocolate frosted, rasp filled, and coffee roll (normally a fritter but they were sold out). All the donuts were good. The facility is unassuming and has been around for a while. Customer service was absolutely awesome. Hard to find that these days. There are complaints regarding this place, but most of them are UberEats. Obviously this place is good enough to order from... their business model doesn’t involve delivery and probably won’t ever. I’ll come back if I’m still here in a week. Everyone that has left leaves with a smile.

If you are looking for a local donut shop nestled in East Atlanta, this would be it. It is a weird location behind the Shell Gas Station. The building is quite old and maybe in need of renovations. The gentlemen at the front counter was friendly and helpful. The arrangement of donuts is limited (or at least when I visited) and don't seem to be fresh at first look. The taste of the donuts were okay. I wouldn't recommend them. I got the feeling like I smoked a cigarette after biting into one of the donuts. I will give them another shot but my first reaction was meh. Hope this review helps.

It was convenient bc they were open at 830pm tonight and I think they are open 25 hours. The cookie was not good but wasn't nasty it was not memorable, the lemon donut was big and the lemon spread inside was good but the donut was not sweet or taste great. When I was in the car I saw the lady using her hands to put the donuts in the tray, gross at least wait until no one can see you first.

favorite place to stop for coffee late at night. i especially like the decor. the employees are all very sweet but there is room for improvement. like maybe specialize in great donuts and coffee and maybe a couple more items instead of trying to do it all. i keep reading reviews about people getting a lackluster pizza or wings and it bums me out because i do like this place and am rooting for it. just wish they'd be open for dine in, been searching for a place to study at night with coffee. am aware it's not the safest area but i'd be willing to risk it.
