Had Happy Garden take out on Christmas day for lunch. I didn't go pick it up, but the family member that did said they were doing a booming business. I will say this is not strictly authentic Chinese food, so I am reviewing on an "American" Chinese food scale. As far as the typical American-style Chinese takeout joints, this is definitely above average.
We went with several lunch deals, and let me tell you, they really are deals. Lunch specials are available 11-3, there are 34 of them, and they are all $4.95. They come with pork fried rice, plus your choice of soup, egg roll, or crispy noodle. I went with the General Tso's chicken. This is your typical version of this dish. I've had spicier, but it had some decent heat to it. It's a substantial portion, I only finished about half. So, for $5 I had a lunch and then leftover lunch the next day. Hard to beat that.
We also split some Crab Rangoon, which comes 8 to an order for $3.60. Good version of this dish, it's fried well, so it's crispy but not greasy. Again, it's a substantial order for the price. We also tried the chicken on a stick, which is 5 large skewers of grilled chicken for $4.15. I loved this dish, it was very crispy but the chicken retained juiciness. My son (4 years old) liked it too. Absolute repeat.
The miss for me was the egg roll. It was greasy and the paper was too thick. I am not a huge egg roll fan anyway, but I really disliked this one.
Everything was extremely hot and fresh. I don't know if the quality suffers when using delivery as we carried out. I'll absolutely order Happy Garden again, above average tasty American-style Chinese food.
