An enduring west-side spot for late-hours takeout—lo mein, egg foo young, and house specials. TravelOK lists it, and the restaurant’s site keeps hours and online ordering current. I cannot rate on the atmosphere and the customer service. I ordered via takeout, I will say though that there are a few tables there but personally I wouldn’t want to eat inside. The food is AMAZING. This was the best Chinese food takeout that we’ve had on this part of town. We found our new takeout spot.

First timer Came around 302pm. Customer service was bad do not know if she did not want to be there or what. I ordered everything small cause it was my first time a it was little pricey. After getting my food I made a 3 min. stop before going home. When I entered my car there was a not so good smell. I thought to myself if the food smells like that it must not be good. When I get home I had a LG not a small General Tso’s chicken and it was so packed that it was hard to get a few pieces out. I also ordered pepper steak with onions it had more onions than steak. My White rice tasted like water the steak was hard to chew. The Tso’s chicken had a bad aftertaste. I wanted to take the food back but I just counted it as a lost as I tossed it in the trash. My daughter was shocked because she has been here before after tasting how bad everything tasted. That I went at the wrong time because the food there is really good just not this time. A wasted of 31.00 dollars and I will not be back here again.

Google
Refused to deliver food for 2 people for a 17 minute drive. Same town just up the hwy. Owner was very rude. I hung up the phone when he started being racist do to lack of understanding the language barrier. I will no longer eat this restaurants food. It's not worth the price anyway.

Google
We have ordered take out several times from Happy Garden and have never had any issues. It takes them about 20 minutes to get the order ready when we ordered online. The Sesame Chicken is fantastic and the only thing I have gotten here. For my side I get the chicken fried rice which goes perfectly with the Sesame Chicken. I have not found a soup that I really liked. They all seem kind of bland for me. They aren't bad but I just wish they had a little more Seasoning. I probably would never come here and it down to eat. This is a perfect chinese takeout restaurant. For the price you get ALOT of food. For a lunch entree it was $7! You really can't find food this cheap anymore.

Google
This establishment consistently delivers culinary excellence with takeout options available, allowing patrons to enjoy their delectable creations in the comfort of their own homes. However, there are a few aspects that could benefit from improvement. While the ambiance generally creates a pleasant dining experience, on rare occasions, it may fall short of expectations. The lack of iced tea is a noticeable drawback, as many diners enjoy the refreshing taste of iced tea with their meals. The absence of this beverage option may disappoint some customers who prefer iced tea over other beverages. Additionally, if the establishment could address these minor shortcomings, it would further elevate the dining experience and cater to a broader range of preferences. Despite this, the restaurant's commitment to providing excellent food remains unwavering.

Google
We ate there today for the first time and it was amazing from the time we walked in till we left ! We got a Togo order and we will be back for sure

Google
Can't comment on the food because I refuse to do business with a company that imposes a convenience fee for online orders. These orders are the most convenient way for the business to take them, why should I pay more for that?

Google
The food is good. Specifically the lo mien and crab Rangoon. But if you are expecting service with a smile this isn’t the place lol

Yelp
This place is fantastic. If you know anything about good Chinese food. You'll know this place is legit when you walk in the door. 10/10

Yelp
Ordered over the phone and picked up my food. I asked for the vegetable Chow Mein and unfortunately just got a plate of vegetables (which were still good) will have to try again

Yelp
Food is always fresh and delicious!! I've tried most of the menu but the Singapore noodles are a fav!
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
Awesome food! So glad I found this place. The place needs a through cleaning and coat of paint on everything!

Faith M.

Yelp
disgusting waste of 40.00. the meats are like shoe leather and the noodles taste like ramen "cup of soup"
google avatar

Kelsie B.

Yelp
Quite possibly the worst tasting Chinese food I've ever had. Unpalatable and inedible, a complete waste of $50.

Yelp
This is a grab and go place for sure. It was too hot to sit at the restaurant and eat the food there but . . . The food was great. Orange chicken was my favorite thing. My daughter got the lo mein noodles and she loved them. The dumplings were great also. Service was fast and food was fresh and hot.

Cleta B.

Yelp
We have been getting food from this restaurant for more than 20 years. The food is always clean, fresh, and tasty! It isn't gourmet but it isn't supposed to be. It IS excellent Chinese takeout for a good price. We recommend it highly.

Yelp
One of my favorite buffets on the Southside. Mongolian grill, Sushi bat with Japanese-style fried and grilled fish sides. 4 ten foot tables full of food they keep filled. Will get photos next time around.

Mindi G.

Yelp
Tasty, in the American Chinese food kind of way, and inexpensive. Plus, they give you a lot for the price.

Yelp
Ordered take-out last night and picked it up about 8:30pm. The employee was very rude and practically shoved the bag of food at us. We ordered the dinner for two and specified sesame chicken and pork ribs. It came with soup (we ordered egg drop) and two egg rolls and two sides of vegetable rice. The chicken and ribs were so tough and hard that we could not eat them. The egg rolls were the same - so hard and crusty! The peas in the rice were tough and chewy - they had to be old. This was a terrible experience and although we have gone here for years, sadly we will not be going back. I wish I could give a "0" star rating because this was beyond unacceptable.
google avatar

Sabrina R.

Yelp
Delicious pea pods, broccoli, shoots, carrots & celery. Pork fried rice. All extremely fresh and well made.

Dennis H.

Yelp
The food is always prepared quickly and the staff at Happy Garden are very friendly. This is tasty Chinese fast-food.

Ty F.

Yelp
If I could give maybe even 1/2 of a star I still don't think It would be a satisfaction . The Lo mein was completely cold and literally took the shape of the container it came in . I go in for a fork full of noodle , and the whole container of noodles came out of the bowl . In addition to the fact that it was really cold . As shown below , the Mongolian beef was not far from disgusting, extra chewy and had a Grey color. Sliding away from the fact that it was served .on top of the glorious Onion Moutain

Yelp
They have late hours, good food and polite staff. Anytime I call in my order it is ready when I arrive at the time that they say.

Major C.

Yelp
Food is pretty good but not great. The boy working the cash register was very rude. no customer service. He acted like he was pissed to be there. I will look around for take out place close by that wants my business. Oh, they also charge a "convenience fee" of $1.50 for ordering online! That is definitely irritating.
google avatar

Yelp
I was not impressed. General Tso's chicken had too much breading, and it was not soft, but rather hard and took a lot of chewing. Flavorwise it was nothing special, lacked spiciness. Hot & Sour soup was average as well. Dining room is a downer, except the locals know that already and only order takeout or delivery here. Service was friendly and fast..prices were decent. But if they can't get simple breaded chicken right, I wonder if anything else here is worth trying.

Leah T.

Yelp
I love this place. They always give a ton of food, have good service, tasty, and very consistent. For the prices, I would say it's totally worth it. Have always gone and will continue to!

Kimmie M.

Yelp
Egg drop soup was had a green tint. It was also very thick. My son called it Jello Soup. Manager was not helpful when I called to inform him. *edit - my son really wanted egg drop soup, so I drove to another restaurant. I have included the comparison.

Nazaret C.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever! Went in on Sunday, noon and the guy who took my order was annoyed and seemed angry to bring there. Food tasted gross like if-the oil had not been changed in a minute. Sadly will not be returning.
google avatar

Nate H.

Yelp
So much food! We often get one of the family dinners, and usually, the family dinner for two is enough to feed our family of two adults and three kids. It is traditional Chinese takeout and every bit as delicious as you would expect. Not the spiciest, but tasty. You can always trade the pork fried rice for chicken fried rice at no extra charge.

Lynn B.

Yelp
I ordered their Sweet and Sour Chicken to pick up. Got home and the breading and chicken was hard as a rock. Gave 2 stars for the rice. Will not being going back.

Yelp
This is, honestly, the best Chinese food in Norman! My family and I have been ordering from Happy Garden for 3 years now. There has never been any problems or mistakes. The food is always piping hot and packaged carefully. Everything tastes great and the portions...wow!! You cannot go wrong ordering from Happy Garden.

Ken P.

Yelp
I'm not sure why there are negative comments. I had the Kung Po chicken, my wife had the sesame chicken. We also had egg drop soup, chicken sticks and egg rolls. The food was fine, egg drop soup was great, egg rolls were okay as well as the chicken sticks. My mother in law loved the hot and sour soup as well as the general's chicken. All in all it was fine, nothing negative.

Yelp
Happy Garden is my go to for Chinese delivery! They are always super quick, the food is hot and fresh, and the online ordering is so simple. Their hot and sour soup is my FAVORITE; I've never been a big fan of tofu but the small slices in the soup are amazing and soak up the tasty broth. The steamed dumplings are fantastic as well, and my fiancé loves the General Tso's chicken. We've never had anything we didn't like, and our order has NEVER been delivered incorrectly or missing anything. The delivery drivers are always so friendly, honestly I love everything about this place!

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Food was very good and delivery time was very reasonable. I've never been disappointed by Happy Garden!

Margaret R.

Yelp
It was awful. I have read all the reviews about how great the food is, I found ut to be slimy and tasteless. And the person at the counter was rude.

Jordon D.

Yelp
Food was barely edible, we ordered 3 different meals and we weren't able to eat more then 1-2 bites out of each meal. The egg drop soup was the best(still not good) I definitely wouldn't order any of it again.
google avatar

Chaney S.

Yelp
The WORST HOT & SOUR SOUP I've ever had the MISfortune of coming across:/ it was as thick as JELLY :P supposed to be a thin SOUP. Spicy it was not. Sour it was not. Just a warm jelly. Yuck.

Yelp
I landed a new job in the Norman area and immediately had a craving for Chinese food. I tried several restaurants and all were bad -- it took me 6 weeks to find this place! Inexpensive and tastes great. The egg roll was fantastic (though I do not believe it had any meat in it). The shrimp lo mein was perfect. The fried rice was not so great, but just "okay"... I ordered a water and never received it. Weird, but not worth losing a star...
google avatar

Konner M.

Yelp
Happy Garden slaps hard. There is no place in Norman that offers more food for a better price.
google avatar

Tunney C.

Yelp
We order delivery. We order in. The food is consistently excellent. The restaurant is clean. It is a locally-owned, family business that works hard to produce a high quality product. That matters to us. Really sad to read the newer bad reviews. We are ordering tonight to see if we have a different experience. Maybe something changed? I will say that phone orders are difficult and always have been but I thought it was due to overwork or something. The lady with the 2 kids who is a manager or owner is just mean -- every time. I try not to deal with her ever.
google avatar

Keith I.

Yelp
Hole-in-the-wall takee-outee. Mediocre chicken lo mein. Muddled flavors did not deliver well to my palate.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! If you're looking for Chinese food today on Christmas Day , happy garden is the place. Not only were they courteous and fast but for American Chinese the food was delicious. A great place for takeout. Rather small dining room, but it was clean and the food was fresh and delicious. This might be weird Leonard get Sheldons food.

Cathy K.

Yelp
We've driven by Happy Garden for years but never stopped in. Tonight, we fixed that error and we may never go back to our "regular" place again. From the mild heat in the Orange Chicken to the flavorful King Pao Chicken, every dish we ordered was perfect! Our food arrived in about 30 minutes; piping hot and perfectly seasoned. There's enough left over that we'll have lunch tomorrow and the day after! I am so pleased and our order was perfect!
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
The girl I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude! Literally told me "I don't care" about my dietary restrictions. Not how you run a business.
google avatar

Krisie H.

Yelp
What an awful place with awful service. Every time I call in for delivery, the person taking the order is rude. The drivers are rude, even at the beginning when I tipped well. I actually stopped tipping when the driver pulled up, knocked on the door once and then went back to his car to leave. I had to nearly chase him down. When hair showed up in my food, I can't say I was surprised, but I was grateful that the manager was willing to fix it. That was so brief. The time I called to get the fixed order, I was told that it wasn't in the system and they wouldn't honor anything. So I canceled my order and began writing this review. They have since called back and agreed to honor it, but not without the typical hateful passive aggressive pettiness. I can't wait to see what shows up. Be warned. If they feel slighted, they'll treat you like crap, no matter how often you order. Time to find a new Chinese place. UPDATE: they got my order wrong again.

D J.

Yelp
We're lifelong Norman residents and tried Happy Garden when they first opened up. They've always been ok but have gone downhill in recent years. The Carla S review is right on. The General Tso chicken dish is tough-tough-tough and the flavor is nothing special. The other dishes that we've had have been from alright to good..
google avatar

Taylor F.

Yelp
Happy Garden is literally my favorite place to order from. It kicks ass and the delivery people are always cool. I can drop 20 dollars and get enough to feed 4 people plus leftovers. Food is always hot and sooo good even though I live pretty far from the restaurant. Nothing beats staying in and ordering delivery from this place.

Paul P.

Yelp
Superb food, used the delivery option a couple times and my food was great!!! Always on time and a good temperature!!! I would recommend Happy Garden to all!!!
google avatar

Rachael F.

Yelp
I've never been into the store to order food, but have done delivery and eaten with work groups where others picked up the food. Every time I've had it, it's been awful. The chicken is mostly dark meat, grisly, cheap cuts. The beef has been somehow chewy yet mushy at the same time. Anything that was fried seemed like it wasn't drained and was dripping in grease. And it's so salty! The flavors are bland and there isn't much of a variety in flavors from one dish to the next. It wasn't so awful I couldn't eat it, but I do throw out the left overs on the horrible occasions I've been stuck eating it. When I think of fast and cheap (which usually mans low quality), this place fits it exactly! If that's what you want, and quality isn't as important, this is your place. If you want some quality Chinese in Norman, try China Wonder. It has lower reviews here on Yelp, but I don't understand why. Just be patient with their owner. She's a busy woman who doesn't like inefficiencies.

Yelp
The husband and I were hungry late he other night and looked up places that delivered and Happy Garden was one. So we decided to chow down on Chinese food! We order some egg drop soup, sesame chicken, and vegetable fried rice. It was all very yummy. I really enjoyed the sesame chicken, it was perfect. the egg drop soup was pretty good too. The vegetable fried rice as mediocre, nothing special. But everything else was great. We made the mistake of ordering on a game night, so the delivery time was over an hour. Hopefully next time it will be a little speedier. We definitely plan on god in a eating at the restaurant at some point. But for delivery it was pretty good and we were both satisfied!

Wyatt M.

Yelp
Been ordering there for 2 years. Started out the best place in town. For the last few months they have progressively gotten worse and worse to the point now where we will not go back. Worst customer service ever and order is never right. My food sat there and got cold while they had me waiting outside. Rude and definately sad to see such a great place turn into what it is now

Yelp
Had Happy Garden take out on Christmas day for lunch. I didn't go pick it up, but the family member that did said they were doing a booming business. I will say this is not strictly authentic Chinese food, so I am reviewing on an "American" Chinese food scale. As far as the typical American-style Chinese takeout joints, this is definitely above average. We went with several lunch deals, and let me tell you, they really are deals. Lunch specials are available 11-3, there are 34 of them, and they are all $4.95. They come with pork fried rice, plus your choice of soup, egg roll, or crispy noodle. I went with the General Tso's chicken. This is your typical version of this dish. I've had spicier, but it had some decent heat to it. It's a substantial portion, I only finished about half. So, for $5 I had a lunch and then leftover lunch the next day. Hard to beat that. We also split some Crab Rangoon, which comes 8 to an order for $3.60. Good version of this dish, it's fried well, so it's crispy but not greasy. Again, it's a substantial order for the price. We also tried the chicken on a stick, which is 5 large skewers of grilled chicken for $4.15. I loved this dish, it was very crispy but the chicken retained juiciness. My son (4 years old) liked it too. Absolute repeat. The miss for me was the egg roll. It was greasy and the paper was too thick. I am not a huge egg roll fan anyway, but I really disliked this one. Everything was extremely hot and fresh. I don't know if the quality suffers when using delivery as we carried out. I'll absolutely order Happy Garden again, above average tasty American-style Chinese food.

Mohawk Joe E.

Yelp
WerE prepared to be disappointed but WOW! This place was fantastic. May be my new favorite. Amazing crab rangoon. All the stuff you normally have to ask for (extra sauce, sides, etc) they just gave us without asking. I cannot emphasize enough...THIS PLACE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND! Soooo good.

Yelp
When I moved to Norman, I lamented the loss of my favorite takeout place. I'd heard some gnarly stories about this place, but in a desperate craving for Chinese, I took a shot. So worth it. I live in a convenient part of town, which I guess helps, but they always get my food to me in 40 minutes to an hour, and it's always hot and fresh. They don't waste your time - when I call, they immediately take your order, get payment info, and get you off the phone. The store isn't much to look at, but I've found that the best Chinese restaurants rarely cater to aesthetics. It's cheap, delicious, and fast.
google avatar

Koorosh Z.

Yelp
Great food. Great food. Great food. Fresh, cheap, delicious, and fast. Large menu with everything you could ever want from a Chinese food restaurant. The only downside: the location leaves something to be desired inside. If these people would just remodel the inside you could actually eat inside and they could increase their prices by 20% easily. Again, awesome food. Come for the take-out or delivery, but don't come to dine-in.

Yelp
Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Norman! Love that they deliver all the way out to the east side of town where we reside. Love the shrimp lo mein with veggies!

Yelp
This is the worst place ever. I order the Kung Pao chiken my favorite. it was awful . I was very disappointed. I live only 1/2 mile away by the time I got home the food was just warm. The fried rice was bland and the hot and sour was like water. The crab Rangoon was OK the egg roll was ok but I had better. I am new here in Norman I hope this is not what I have to look forward to in the eating out around here. I will not be back. Will try a different Chinese soon . Stay tune...
