In this charming street you’ll find Happy Girl Kitchen. Most of the food and drinks are home-made, and they also have a shop where you can buy their home-made products, from marmalade and gluten-free bread to bath salts. We enjoyed some good coffee, cake, avocado toast and marmalade toast. They have many vegetarian and vegan options as well as delicious gluten-free bread and pastries. Definitely recommend to visit this place!

Homemade Jam = one word Parking Easy free street parking around location Service Smooth service and appreciate the guidance on the menu and suggestions Limited indoor seating and a decent amount outside. There’s an entirely another section of different types of jams and marmalades — pretty 👏 and they also let you try some that’s available. Had the veggie sandwich and homemade sourdough with strawberry lavender jam was amazing. We were happy that you can actually pick from a list on the jams that you want to try. The veggie sandwich was OK. I felt it could’ve been more heartier. Avocado toast was nice. They had a sprinkle of salt and pepper at the top to give it a little kick.

This place is amazing! Everything is homemade - the granola, jams, bread, pastries, yogurt even. They have plenty of healthy options and accommodate for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. The coffee was the real star for me, I got a honey latte with oat milk and it was the best I’ve had in town so far! Plus they don’t charge extra for alternative milks. They also have a little shop attached where they sample and sell their homemade jams, spritzes, pickled veggies, and more. Our servers were so friendly and welcoming, happy to give us recommendations of menu items. This place is a gem, I highly recommend it!

Epic doesn't begin to explain the flavor and quality of the cuisine here. It's fresh, organic, homemade, and all delicious. Don't miss this gem while in the area. It's well worth the stop!!!

Google
Possibly the best avocado toast of my life. My buddy went all the way and had the kombucha, the parsnip soup and the toast too

Dec 2024 update: picked up some gifts and enjoyed a chai with whole milk (from their own dairy cows). Jordan and the family cares about every ingredient and the community as a whole. A must-visit when you’re in town! Fresh pressed apple cider and two delicious PB&J’s at this local treasure. And our artist Avery got to hang up her art that she gifted to the owner Jordan and her family. Great atmosphere and local treasure.

Google
I do like this place. However, the fritate was a bit old along with the thumbrint cookie, while their cappuccino came in a quarter sized cup; much smaller than their latte, which was unexpected and not satisfying. The kiwi strawberry muffin was excellent along with their mini cheesecake. Soup was okay, too. Ambiance was nice, and we drove out of our way for their gluten-free bread, which uses one of the best recipes we have found anywhere. It's very heavy on the nuts, which is fantastic. Place is pricey, which I understand with the ingredients that they use, but for that price, please provide a large cappuccino and fresher baked goods.

Google
This is a wonderful little local place for a quick stop to recharge. Great menu and wonderful coffee. We had the avocado toast and frittata which came with their own pickled sides. Delicious! The shop owner was happily answering our questions and was very welcoming. We ended up purchasing the candied lemon peel from their little shop with local products. The jams are going to have to be revisited next time. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
This place is ridiculously amazing. The food is amazingly ridiculous. The fresh pressed juice is amazulously rediculazing. The homemade chia pudding is rediculazingly amazulous. The homemade bread is even better. The word 'homemade' is redundant here, as this place is not only the extremely top notch best food possible, but also a movement of making sustainable food a part of modern humanity. Come. Feast. Learn. Feast more. Dedicate your soul and reap infinite joy. Feast.

Yelp
Service was good! We got the daily sandwich and soup which were yummy! The cookies were great! When I'm back in monterey it would be nice to stop by again, but its not on the top of my list :) We ate outside because we had a pet so i'm glad they had outdoor tables. It was cool to check out the canned goods too

Yelp
Fresh, clean good eats. Yumminess and satisfaction every time I leave this joint. The Deets: +/- Indoor and outdoor seating available + Wi-Fi available + Vegan/vegetarian options are available + Lunch special is where it is at! Rotating sando, bowl and soup. + Coffee bar options available + Baked good are available + Ferment shop available, these are sold at local farmer's markets.

Yelp
This place is truly what my dreams are made of. I've been buying jams from happy girl kitchen company for a couple of years and it was only recently that I found out that they had a restaurant/bakery/café of their own. I loved my chickpea frittata and a little side of jam and butter on toast with a gorgeous cup of coffee. Additionally, the back room has all their jams and marmalades and other jellies plus a lot of items from local artists and candlemakers ; it is an apothecary of some sorts with a lot of organic and local produce. I am so blown away by their vision and how wonderful they've done so far looking forward to visit them again and stock up on my jams. Went into season, please do not forget to try the strawberry lavender jam, and the hot pepper jelly!

Yelp
Tried the Deluxe Chia Oat Pudding today. Delicious. Kumquat jam in the bottom, then creamy chia oats, and then a little container of crunchy granola, almonds and cashews to sprinkle on top. Service with a smile, and a lovely latte. My lady friends and I always enjoy a nice light meal and hot beverage at Happy Girl.

Yelp
I liked this place. I went here while I was in town for a conference. Everything was super fresh and organic and the staff was friendly

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times before but first time reviewing. I enjoy the vibe of this establishment. You walk up and place your order. There is seating inside and sidewalk seating. There is also a store inside the restaurant where you can purchase jams, pickles, etc. They also have a great vegan selection of food here. I always get the avocado toast. The bread they use is toasted to perfection, and they don't overdo the avocado and greens on top. It's served with a side of butter pickles and pepper. Simple but exquisite! I will definitely stop here again! Price: $7

Yelp
Enjoyed a chai latte and lunch sandwich special while visiting with a friend. Always a great place for drinks, soups, sandwiches , etc

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely lavender lemonade in the parklet on the street. Service is always courteous. Ambiance is perfect for a nice summer day in July.

Yelp
Delicious and healthy food. The service was wonderful. Will be back next time we are in town.

Yelp
This restaurant is a gem! A wonderful place to enjoy a healthy and satisfying meal! Organic foods and delicious jams are always a treat, and they offer a variety of options, I have tried their gluten-free cookies, avocado toast is delicious! The chia pudding being my favorite with apricot jam and their own granola. Offering even more wholesome and tasty choices. I always leave with a jar of their delicious granola, jam and cookies to bring home Yum!

Yelp
Love the food here. Their sandwiches and bowls are amazing, and the fact that they have their specials on their phone recording (which is so easy to get to) is really helpful. A lot of their pre-made items (salads, yogurt) are also excellent. The bakery items are really inconsistent. I love their thumbprint cookies, for example, but sometimes they taste like they were made with butter that has been sitting a long time in the fridge, and they often burn the undersides of all their cookies. The service can also be pretty inconsistent, but it's not a deal breaker.

Yelp
Service 10/10 ambiance 10/10 coffee 10000000/10. Make the visit!! Such a nice spot you can tell they provide a lot to the community as well, they have workshops and community events posted all over their shop. Lots of locally sourced fresh ingredients in their baked goods as well.

Yelp
Great food, vibes, and products. Workers were very kind. Why wouldn't you want to support such an amazing small business.

Yelp
Their homemade jam and their peppers are delicious, plus they made for fantastic gifts to bring home! Amazing customer service as well. I can't say enough nice things about this shop. Definite A+

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place but I really did not enjoy the taste of my sandwich. It was very sour which seems to be a theme here as their lemony soup was quite lemony too. But I'm pregnant, so I'm kind of picky right now.. I asked my husband what he thought and my husband liked it and he also said their coffee was good. So I have to up my rating. He likes sour though. On the other hand, their homemade yogurt was very tasty to me and they had very kind service. The vibe reminded me of my Berkeley college days. Very cute and inclusive and hip, lots of vegan options and creative creations, a lot of offerings. The flavors I guess just weren't for me. The prices were fair. It was walking distance from our hotel and from the aquarium though we did have to walk uphill. I was craving lemonade and didn't want to pay $9 for the aquarium one so that's how I ended up here because I saw they had lavender lemonade ... it was quite strong and sweet.. for me it was too strong, I didn't love it. There is plenty of outdoor seating..

Yelp
They have a sandwich of the day. I tried it and it was delicious. It made me think about what the sandwich of the day was like yesterday and what it might be like tomorrow. I wish they offered the sandwich of the yesterday too, then I could compare them. Maybe the sandwich I got that day was the same as the day before. This one sandwich just keeps having it's day. If that's the case, I'd prefer more transparency. Like instead of sandwich of the day, it should be sandwich of today and the last two days. I guess it's good to be present and not harp on the past, but that seems unfair to historians and all those restaurants that still have "people love us on Yelp" signs from 2022 and earlier. What I really want to know, is if a sandwich of the day has been able to have it's day for a full year. That'd be real impressive. There's a reason they don't have a man or woman of the day award. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if the sandwich I got that day became the sandwich of the year. It was so good!

Yelp
I love eating freshly made home cooked meals at Happy Girl. The food is very good. Friendly staff. I often buy something to take home - flowerless bread, potato salad, or a hand salve.
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Can't say I've tried too many of the products. My last experience here was alright. The pickles were good, though didn't have a lot of "vinegar" flavor to them like I'm used to. Friendly staff, small place but everything is organized well.

Yelp
If you're vegan or vegetarian, this is the place for you! Don't worry, carnivores, there are some good things for you: like pastries, jams, pickles and goat cheese. I ordered an oat milk gingerbread cappuccino. Wow! Great coffee flavor with just the right amount of gingerbread syrup. It was really pretty epic! My son and I shared a full order of avocado toast which comes with a side of their pickled veggies. That was pretty amazing as well! I don't know how they did it -- the bread was toasted yet also had the perfect chew! The pickled veggies were fresh! Nice flavor and still crisp. My son won't eat anything without meat but he was sold on their avocado toast. He now plans on making them at home. The service is great. The people are friendly. Very chill. There's a cupboard with a self-serve water station and utensils. They also have a little room with Happy Girl products like their jams, shrubs, pickles, candies... super cute little shop. When in Pacific Grove, stop by.

Yelp
It's been a few years since I visited but LOVED the food, the quality, location, and ambiance. I'd totally return if I'm in town!

Yelp
Lunch specials! Drink specials! Every thing is made and created at Happy Girl. This is a great local spot for fresh food and drinks. It's a great spot for a book reading time and to have a good time with friends. The ambiance is very chill. Kids and families are welcome.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this amazing place and now can't stop! The food is beyond great and you can taste the quality and love put into their items. Prices are reasonable and the service of the staff always makes me feel happy- maybe that's because of the name too! I got a coconut muffin and am obsessed with their yummy mushroom barley soup- it's to DIE for! The inside has such a cute ambiance- checkout the dried orange chandelier- even deep jams! So recommend this place and I'll be back real soon (:

Chris W.

Yelp
Delicious! Can't wait to go back and try something else! I had the peanut butter chocolate chip ball and a bite of my friend's apple pie. So yum!

Max S.

Yelp
Pretty good! Food is fresh. Wish they had more Options for bfast. Overall worth trying out!

Yelp
I've come here a hundred times. The food have always been great except the ocassional drier than dry frittata, (that has been served cold a couple of times). A couple of weeks ago, I bought their potato salad and it was waaayyy salty! Like they poured the whole salt shaker in the bowl while making this. :( it was a waste of money because after two bites I just threw it away. The cheesecakes are delicious though.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely love Happy Girl Kitchen. While I don't come here very often, they never disappoint. Inside, the decor is industrial meets farmhouse shabby-chic. Think cute, cozy & wholesome. Staff is always warm and welcoming, offering suggestions when you can't make up your mind. With a wide array of items from their pastry case, the thoughtfully curated specials on their menu, and their variety of hot and cold drinks, it can be tough to make up your mind! As for the food, I come here after a weekend of gastric abuse. Happy Girl Kitchen specializes in gut-friendly items, such as pickled veggies, chickpea frittata, and kombucha on tap. Oh! And everything is made in house.

Yelp
HGK lit up my week on the Central Coast: 1) local 2) farm produce 3) organic 4) nutritionally dense 5) vegan 6) hearty portions - go for the full and split it for a light meal 7) daily lunch specials 11am - 3pm, that actually keep you interested 8) reasonable prices 9) warm staff If I was a local - I would definitely be a regular. The food speaks for itself. Fresh and vibrant food are abundant here. Feed your microbiota some amazing pre and probiotics here. When I am traveling I still like to eat healthy and usually it's hard to find attainable homemade organic meals - fully recommend the bowl and sando of the day, they also carry well and taste great unheated the next day.
google avatar

Yelp
Best avocado toast ever!! The house chai was good too because it was unsweetened. I usually come to PG/Carmel about 3x a year and it's the first time I tried Happy Girl. I will be back!

Yelp
Enjoyed my Friday night dinner at Happy girl kitchen. This was the first of a series of community dinners lovely food vegetarian fresh farm to table. Looking forward to the next community dinner.

Yelp
This is an adorable little cafe with vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free options as well as an extensive selection of drinks! I got a cup of the soup of the day, a potato and leek soup, which was pretty good for the cold and rainy weather but definitely could have used more seasoning. My friend got a rice and chili bowl, which she also believed could have benefited from a bit more seasoning or sauce. I did get their quinoa bowl on the side, which is displayed in their little pre-made deli section. I actually really liked this and recommend it if you're looking for something savory and grainy. We swung by around 1pm on a Saturday and managed to snag a table after standing around for a few minutes. Service was solid and food arrived in a very timely manner!

Yelp
Yummy sandwiches, and a bland but filling lentil vegetable soup. Interesting selection of local honeys, preserves, olives etc at the attached gift shop.

Yelp
Really cute place with a little store in their alcove full of jams and beans. Went to aquarium and decided to look for something to eat for lunch. Coffee was amazing. Chia with granola amazing. Kid loved the peanut butter and jam. Chicken sandwich was ok. Hearty bread. The cheesecake was really good. So were their cookies and chocolate chip cookie. Nice place to hang out.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
My pbj was perfectly toasted and I chose the strawberry blackberry jam option (they had so many jams you could pick). Chocolate chips cookies tasted good but maybe just a little "grainy". Chickpea frittata had a nice nutty flavor but it definitely needed some additional salt

Lewis L.

Yelp
Food is ok. But service is bad..store supposed to be open til 5pm.. we arrived 4:15pm and ordered about $70 food and gave $11 tips.. we saw all chairs were put on tables so we asked if we can sit down and eat and we're told yes.. about 4:50pm, the guy worked behind counter reminded us he was closing in 5 min .. my wife and I had to grab our drinks and food and ate our food outside the restaurant ... Hate to say we paid the tips but there were no service provided at all.. we had to clean the table and throw away plastics utensils etc.
google avatar

Divya R.

Yelp
True farm to table, great vegan and vegetarian options. We had avocado toast and apricot muffin. Great coffee and tea options. They have a mini store where you can purchase freshly made jams, pickles, spices. Their strawberry lavender jam and passion fruit jelly were phenomenal.
google avatar

Janai S.

Yelp
Could this place be any cuter? A friend told me that I HAD to try the avocado toast and lavender lemonade, so here I am! The lemonade? Perfect! Come and get some now! The avocado toast? It was good, loaded with avocado and fresh greens. I would say it was perfect as well, but I feel like it's lacking some balsamic glaze or something. Inside the cafe is a little shop with locally sourced goods; jams, honey, soaps, candles... all things that help feel good about your purchase & happy to support the local artisans. I'll keep this in mind when it comes time for gift giving.
google avatar

Taylor Z.

Yelp
A nice cute cafe / cannery! Got a coffee and a lemonade. Pretty standard and wished it had more flavor in the lavender as well as orange in the mocha. Just tasted like regular lemonade and chocolate in the mocha.

Yelp
My first time exploring Monterey with a plant based lifestyle and I was excited to seek out good eats that wasn't seafood. Fortunately my happy place came when I stumbled upon Happy Girl Kitchen Co, an entirely plant friendly restaurant and cafe. They currently offer outdoor seating which was perfect on a beautiful sunny day in the bay. Their menu items include sandwiches, salads, soups, bowls, and baked goods. They also have some home-brewed drinks including a refreshing Hibiscus Lemonade that was to die for. Seeking a heartier lunch, I ordered their $13 lunch special which comes with a cup of soup, small bowl, and half a sandwich. Their menu offerings change daily so you'll have to see what's included to see if it's worthwhile. While everything is vegetarian, everything can be made vegan be removal of a few items that they use to top their dishes. On the day we went, our menu included a potato soup, dal-mango chutney rice bowl, and a tofu steak sandwich. I absolutely loved their rice bowl. The chutney was fantastic and the spiced dal mixed with jasmine rice brought out some amazing flavors. I thought the sandwich and soups were good too but I would have rather chosen a larger rice bowl in the end. Still, I loved being able to try a variety of plant based dishes for a good price. Street parking is available and wasn't a problem for us even on a busier weekend afternoon.

Yelp
This place is absolutely my fav! Love the atmosphere, the freshness, the creativity of their dishes and the variety! The pickles, cheese and cracker plate was SO good! Also the chickpea frittata w/avocado was superb!!

Yelp
Super yummy I was just at a festival and tried them and they did not disappoint. Very yummy

Yelp
Discovered this fantastic place when we were in town! Nice location up the street from the aquarium. Came for afternoon snack and coffee. It did not disappoint. Love the ambience, love how many jellies and jams they had. Definitely bought a few for gifts. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Samira I.

Yelp
Love coming to this cafe when I'm in the area visiting Monterey and/or Carmel! They have plenty of vegan and gluten free options for breakfast or a light, healthy meal, which is perfect after a weekend typical full of indulgence. I've gotten the turmeric latte with almond milk a couple times - it's got a nice spice and is a nice warm drink sans caffeine. Pair that with a bite like a cookie if you want to just have a few bites or a made to order items like the avocado toast and you're good to go and start your day/journey back. Friends would describe this place as "granola" but that's my style - it makes me feel at home even though home is actually a couple hours away. And the attached shop is so cute, I want to buy everything to stock up my kitchen! I admit though, I usually just end up sampling a bunch of jams and leaving there satisfied. Oops, well I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Graciela E.

Yelp
Amazing food with great service! Highly recommend- Drove up for a short visit and made it a point to eat here. Ordered the chia pudding and half avocado toast for mom.
google avatar

Neen M.

Yelp
Everything is great here, but my absolute favorites are: 1. The lavender lemonade which is the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Plus the mason jars they come in are too cute and you can reuse 2. Their desserts. In particular the lemon cheesecake. The perfect amount of tart without being bitter and the hint of lavender on top. It's like a two (possibly one) bite dessert so order accordingly hehehe
google avatar

Amye K.

Yelp
So many tasty things! Had some amazing avo toast and coffee and took home some of their yummy Bloody Mary mix for a trip down the coast. An easy, well worth-it morning walk from wharf and Cannery Row Monterey hotels. Just get out of bed and go!
google avatar

Fiona S.

Yelp
Great food! Loved the vegan options for baked goods, toast and vegan frittata, looking forward to coming back!

Kitty A.

Yelp
5 stars for excellent customer service. Yes, the food is organic and made with in-house ingredients, but it is exorbitant! We purchased 2 parfait (excellent), 1 cesar salad, 2 dairy free match cheesecakes (too much dates or honey), 1 hummus (not actually tastyand quiet watery, and 2 cookies (too sugary) for a total of $56.95. Again, I really appreciate it's organic cos that's exactly what we stick to in our home. Will return for the parfaits for sure!
