The 15 Best Bubble Teas In London

"Order: Milk Tea With Oreo Cookies & Cream Happy Lemon’s bright yellow shopfront stands out on the heavily saturated Newport Court, and has enough flavour combinations to make anyone’s head spin. But despite the citrussy name, we’re more into the milk teas here. Especially the milk tea with Oreo cookies and cream. It’s a light, creamy milk tea with a subtle roasted flavour that pairs well with the sweetness of the cookies and cream. We recommend taking away your drink as it’s pretty small and dark inside." - rianne shlebak

Google
Good selection of drinks, pretty busy when we went. Ordered standard milk and fruit teas; nothing too special but good.

Google
I do like a good boba but today I thought I'd try something different, as I ordered the freshly blended lemon green tea. I've never tried green tea before, but this was really good. I felt slightly rushed to choose by the staff but that's probably because they were a little busy at the time.

Google
One of the top bubble tea spots in Chinatown. I had the grape with cheese foam—great flavor and the foam was better than most places. No wait when we visited. Service was a bit slow, but the staff were tactful and efficient in how they communicated. High-quality ingredients all around.

Google
Nice bubble tea place. It was very busy and the regular size with tapioca was £5 something. Some you can choose the level of sweetness and some you can’t. They don’t ask about the level of ice either. Mango Green tea wasn’t too sweet. It was refreshing.

Google
One of my go-to spots for bubble tea when in Chinatown area. Their roasted oolong milk tea with tapioca pearls is my all time favorite🤩

Google
The cashier was so rude 🔥 I wish I could give a negative 10 stars. She didn't treat us as customers and it was completely unacceptable. Plus, the drink was not nice at all. You could definitely go for a better option!!!

Google
The best place and probably the rare one to serve salted cheese bubble tea! My absolute favourite!! I just love their salted cheese bubble tea, especially the milk tea with salted cheese. And the cheesecakes are absolutely divine. Service is quick, but, queues especially over the weekends can be really long! They do not offer seating due to the heavy crowd. So if visiting during peak time,be ready to wait.

Google
The drink is alright but CASHIER IS VERY RUDE to customers. BAD ATTITUDE. I missed what he said when ordering the drink so I asked again but he yelled at me very impatiently and impolitely. I live in London and have never experienced a service like that.

Yelp
Happy Lemon was a bubble tea shop we stumbled upon in London's Chinatown. The drinks on the poster outside looked delicious and we entered the small shop. Like a typical boba spot, it was fast paced and quick which is great. I got the iced passion fruit green tea with lychee jelly and it was fruity and taste like real fruit. The price was reasonable for a large and it would be a plus if were able to adjust sugar level for this drink because some of the drinks come with a set level.

Yelp
Very dangerous. It could possibly be broken pieces of a plastic spatula? Or broken bits from their powder containers? I don't know. All i know is it's DANGEROUS. Oct 27, 2024 approximately 12:12pm We came in and there were only 2 of us being served but a lot of people came in while we were there. Beware.

Yelp
A Lemon-y treat! You will have multiple options in Chinatown for bubble tea, that is for sure. But I found the staff and service very kind and efficient and many times that makes all the difference. My simple milk tea with salted cheese and boba was delicious and served almost immediately. I am a big fan of milk tea and usually keep it simple. Was the tea outstanding? It was good. But again, the servers really shine here and I feel I got a good value for my refreshing milk tea. The boba was cooked perfectly and the salted cheese was yummy. Boba is life!

Yelp
Stopped by Happy Lemon after lunch. There was no line and was very easy to order. I grabbed the brown sugar boba in a size regular. Took off a star because it tasted a little funky to me, like they added coffee or something to it. This might just have been their specific version of a brown sugar boba but I thought it was a little too much like espresso (which I didn't order) But the prices were good and the size was nice for what I wanted. Would probably try it again with a different flavor.

Yelp
4/4/23- we hit it at 5:50pm. Blueberry was good. The Lychee Tea was excellent. $19 pounds out the door. They give you a number. One of the best places I have been to. Give it a try. Check out the photos.

Yelp
Tea was good and strong. I got the jasmine green tea with salted cheese foam. On the other hand, the cashier who took orders seemed like she didn't want to be there. It definitely showed by the way she was taking drink orders.. short and curt. It's a very tiny shop and I understand. Maybe it's just a bad day for her? The staff that called out the drinks was definitely nicer.

Yelp
We weren't sure which London boba spot to go to, and stumbled upon Happy Lemon, which has locations in the US. I order Oolong Milk Tea with Boba (50% sugar, less ice) everywhere I go, and Happy Lemon's version is excellent. I haven't ordered it anywhere else in London, but as someone who very very very frequently drinks Oolong Milk Tea with Boba (in California and NYC) I feel very confident in Happy Lemon's tea and boba quality. I see other reviews about service, and I don't any comment about my experience (which was fine and brief, and my drink was served quickly on Christmas Day) - just about oolong tea and boba quality.

Yelp
Visiting London Chinatown for the first time, we were very excited to try their tapioca drinks to see if it beat what we have at home in Houston, Texas. But unfortunately, Happy Lemon just ended up being average. The first thing you notice here is their bright yellow store front, which is very happy feeling, and I'll admit it's the reason I even came to try this place. That and the line was out the door, so it had to be great right? After a good 20 minute wait or so, which I'm surprised the line went by this quickly cause I was expecting at least a 30 min wait, I finally got the chance to order a taro milk tea with tapioca 50% sweet and 50% ice level. The drink took another 10-15 mins to actually come out, but from the looks of it looked promising. After the first couple sips, the milk tea had a good creaminess, it wasn't too watery, but there just seemed to be zero taro flavor. The tapioca was soft, but they seem to not add any sugar to their tapioca also cause it was very bland as well. All of their milk tea components had the right texture or mouth feel, but just zero flavor. It was decent enough to finish the drink, it just didn't leave that "happy lemon" feeling. But it could have just been because they were rushing to deal with the big crowd so I'll definitely come back again next time I'm in London.

Yelp
We were walking in London and found this boba place. The store was completely empty and it was very small. Although the place wasn't the cleanest the boba was really good. We got the mango green tea with boba it was very good but very sweet. We also ordered the kumquat lemonade ice tea which was very refreshing and tasty.

Yelp
Drink: Taro Milk Tea with Taro Balls I love Happy Lemon in the US, and I love Happy Lemon in the UK! Tried one of their promoted drinks which was the taro milk tea with taro balls. I loved the taro flavor in the drink, and it's probably my favorite taro drink yet. I thought I would miss my classic honey boba, but the taro balls was actually a great alternative. Disclaimed though, didn't try the milk tea so can't speak for the classic drinks here.

Yelp
Decided to try this place since I noticed that they had cheese mousse. We don't really see places that offer that in Las Vegas so .. why not try it?! I ordered a green tea with the cheese mousse on top and I liked it! It was really good and the way they serve it is great. They give you a sip lid so that way you can taste the layer by layer instead of mixing the drink in. Cause, if you mix it, it becomes a milk tea and there's no point in that! Their tea has great tea flavor so that's always a plus! I love places that have a good tea base versus a place with sugar. Or maybe that's just an American thing? Anywho, the only issue is the girl that took our order was kinda rude. And then she gave us the wrong change. She shorted us. We weren't too familiar with the sterling coins so it took us a bit to figure out. It almost felt like they could be doing it on purpose because we're tourists....so it kind of rubbed us the wrong way. Good product. Bad service. Count your coins.

Yelp
Picture this, its 90 degrees you're sweating all over the place and you're just looking for something cool to drink. You see on yelp that theres a happy lemon and decide you're going to go. When you get there this is where your choice pays off. 5 stars because I was dying out there and nothing was more refreshing than having a happy lemon lemonade -Josh

Yelp
It's alright. At that price I expected better. Felt a bit ripped off. That's not even counting they got the order wrong. All in all, it's too milky and the flavour is just not there. For like £5 which is more than some meals, I expect a lot better.

Yelp
Came here after a recommendation from a friend and we ordered the salted cheese tea. Not sure of the exact name as I didn't place the order. It looked like tea with a layer of cream/milk on top(which is the salty cheese I'm assuming). I tried the tea and it was good. Then onto the salted cheese part. Personally i don't like cheese at all. But it wasn't horrible tasting just not my liking. However all the others loved it!! Its just a personal preference but i think its something worth trying

Yelp
Yummy milk tea! I can see why it has a permanent queue which moves quickly. Lots of tea flavours, hot or cold and even the cream top style. I loved my milk green tea without toppings. It was the perfect blend for me. They ask you to customise the sugar and ice. The only thing hard to stomach was the price. £3.80 for the small size. Ouch. I won't be able to come as much as I would like but it does rank among the best I have tried so far in the city.
google avatar

Billy S.

Yelp
Walked by and saw people queuing, so what do I do? Queue too and then figure out what they sell later. It looked like it would be great bubble tea and I love boba, so why not? I didn't get anything with lemon, but it seems like they specialize in that. I got a jasmine green tea with boba. It was good! As good as Chattime, my usual go to around the corner. Will definitely come back. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Happy Lemon seems to currently be the most popular boba place in London among the fobs. You'll see everyone with one around this tube stop. You cant miss it due to the cute and very noticeable packaging (good marketing) Happy Lemon is another popular international boba chain with their own unique feature being that they add a little lemon to each drink. Another popular drink feature is their rock salted cheese drinks. Happy Lemon is boldly located right next to the OG Cappacha which has been there for years now. Price is typical of 5 quid give or take a few, just like all the other competitors. We stopped by while in chinatown because Hubby has never tried Happy Lemon so we popped in to grab some hot milk tea (with boba of course). When we went it wasnt too busy but I know it can be. Ordering in Chinese or english, take your pick After ordering they give you a buzzer to let you know when your drink is ready. Hubby said it was okay, he isnt a fan of the lemon after taste (kind of wierd with milk tea I will admit). I would say its worth trying at least once to tea if it is to your liking.

Yelp
Bubble tea is not all equal... But lemonade is a different story! Loved my frozen lemonade with mango jelly ! Tart, sweet and delicious !!! I can't speak to their bubble tea, but if you are looking for a refreshing lemonade drink this is THE PLACE! It was super crowded when I was there (which is saying something good) and it was really quick ! I went with cash, as its chargers you unless you spend over £5.

Yelp
To be real with everyone, this was rough. I've had hundreds, if not thousands, of bubble tea experiences over my lifetime around the world, and this was sorely disappointing for how centrally located it is in London. I ordered the classic pearl milk tea, a metric I like to use to standardly compare boba around the world. First, there was no tea flavor whatsoever. The "tea", was very watery, iced out milk that tasted almost exclusively like diluted milk. Way too much ice. Next, the pearls. Oh, the pearls. A travesty. They were waaaay too hard. It felt like biting stale gum. Not chewy whatsoever. Pretty disappointing. I'm surprised this place had the number of customers it did considering how many boba options are located in the same block...

Yelp
Got the straight up milk tea, with pudding, at 70% sweet and less ice. I like this place better than Cuppacha next door.
google avatar

Rachael L.

Yelp
As the name suggests, this place is all lemon. Don't come here if you hate lemon. On the other hand, if you love lemon, this is the place for you. If you're in between, no worries because there are other drinks that mix in lemon with other flavours. This store has consistently long queues, even though it is right next to another bubble tea store (which has just as long queues). They have lots of creative drink options which, if you're the adventurous type, may peak your taste buds. You won't find much of the "classic" bubble tea options here. However, what they serve is delicious and right in the heart of Chinatown.

Yelp
Please tell Franco the cashier that I think he's wonderful and deserves everything good in the world, also the classic milk bubble tea is phenomenal

Yelp
A friend and I stumbled upon Happy Lemon whilst roaming around Chinatown. There was a queue out the door, so we figured we'd give it a shot since it seemed fairly promising. Verdict? Eh, not impressed. Overall, I think Happy Lemon fails to pay attention to detail, and that can really distinguish a good business from a great business. For example, we had the mango green tea and grapefruit green tea, both with pearls. The teas themselves weren't very well made. We asked for less ice and no sugar; what we got were two extremely sweet drinks practically filled more than halfway with ice. The pearls were lackluster as well. They didn't have the true mark of Taiwanese pearls: brown sugar. They were also slightly undercooked and had a starchy, powdery center. I also ordered two drinks for takeaway, and they placed them in a bag for me. About ten minutes after I walked out the store, I realized that one of the cups had completely burst open and all of the tea poured out into the bag. After dumping out the tea and wasting an entire drink, I realized that the cup's plastic film lid had unsealed. To avoid this, Happy Lemon should revamp their quality control and choose a sturdier plastic film or make sure their machine is properly sealing their drinks. This way, more people can enjoy their beverages... Unlike my friend who unfortunately didn't have one anymore after hers spilled into the bag. After this experience, I'd be more inclined to take my business elsewhere.

Yelp
I couldn't really find fault with the service here, I think knowing Chinese helps as you can query the staff as much as you like what in the world this bubble tea place is all about? I am still confused. The branding is pretty, the store is attractive. They even have the happy lemon mascot outside (doll not a real person walking around) and even a strobe light shining the Happy Lemon logo onto the floor immediately in front of the shop. Such amazing gadgetry to bring in clientele, which really does work as it's pretty much stealing a lot of the customers away from the bubble tea place immediately next door. What I don't get are the drinks. Yes it's lemon based but most of them are not suitable with bubble tea maybe, and it's a lot more sour than you would expect for a drink which is usually pretty sugary. They have very outrageous flavour choices and combinations so be prepared for a hit and miss drink when you order anything here. You might get lucky, but more often than not you might not get a drink that you would really enjoy, unless you are, a happy lemon and LOVES lemon of course.

Yelp
OK, this place isn't THAT bad, however when there's Cuppacha literally two doors down, I'd rather go there. First of all, the taste of this milk tea is just meh. It tastes too watery, as if I mixed Jasmine tea with a lot of water and a little bit of milk. They should really fix their recipe if they want to stay in business with so many other boba places around. This popular milk tea chain is thriving in China so that's proof that this store, with the right tweaking, can prosper in the future. The concept is cute--lemons everywhere and your order number is a wooden lemon head that you return to them when your order is ready. However, the boba is meh and the tea is meh and overall ordering was a bit difficult cause the cashier expected me to speak Chinese at first and then was confused during my ordering process (maybe she was a new hire?). According to the other reviews, the abnormal teas (like cheesy tea) are better? I just tried normal milk tea and it was not up to par.

Yelp
Great bubble tea cafe very close to Trafalgar Square. The walk to Happy Lemon from the National Gallery delights you with a little introduction to London's Chinatown. I was greeted with great service and had no wait time. I ventured out from my usual orders at bubble tea cafes and tried one of their promotional drinks. I believe it was the Chocolate with Taro Balls Milk Tea. It was good! The great thing about the location is that you can buy your bubble tea and just wander around Chinatown after. My only reservation is that they charge extra for paying with credit card, but this might be expected from small shops in the area.
google avatar

Dahokolomoki Z.

Yelp
Half the drinks were not available. Extremely slow service, long queues. Their card machine was also broken. Just a complete shambles. Go to Cappacha or Chatime instead!
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
I think HappyLemon is my favorite boba place in London. It isn't usually very packed, they have very unique flavors and it tastes great! The service I also got was quite good;when I ask for less ice or sugar,it's exactly what they give me. After finding out about the store I introduced it to my boyfriend and he also loved it. The only improvement I think they need to make is adding their whole menu to an area where everyone can see, so you wouldn't have to spend time deciding at the till. Otherwise, this is a perfect place to get boba!

Bin K.

Yelp
We came to Chinatown after dinner for bubbletea. It was between this place and the one next door. Both had decent reviews on Yelp but since this place was more crowded we decided it was probably a good sign. Unfortunately, it didn't have any "wow" factor for me. Nothing extraordinary. Since it's a chain, I will definitely give it another try, perhaps a different flavor.
google avatar

Allie U.

Yelp
This place has amazing tea and I love it. Cheesy tea... Literally tea with lemon and cheese. If that sounds disgusting, don't knock it until you try it. It tastes heavenly and is an amazing thing. It is smooth and has a delightful balance of flavours. If it isn't your thing, they also have more traditional teas to choose from. So why am I only giving them three stars? Two reasons, each taking off one star. One, the staff engage in high pressure upselling. No, I don't want what you're suggesting. I want what I ordered. Recommendations from staff are good. I love being told what you like. You know your product better than anyone. I don't like when I say no thanks and you keep pestering! Second, they charge a ridiculous fee of 50p to use a credit card for under £5. This is far in excess of what their actual cost is likely to be, and only serves to make me come here a lot less often than I otherwise would. They have an expensive product with a high profit margin, so let me pay how I want. I won't pay the fee and I won't bring cash, so you only see me when I'm with a friend and also buying theirs.
google avatar

JD P.

Yelp
OK. So they tend to run out of half the drinks really early on, much to the disappointment of all the hopeful people who make the extra effort to find this place. And if you've never been here before, you'll probably be completely clueless about what you should order. And the waiters will have trouble making recommendations, often because their English is poor. But who cares. Everything is delicious and will probably blow your mind. If your clueless like I was give the following a try: - the fresh Grapefruit Green Tea if you're feeling like something zesty and super refreshing. Add lychee jellies for a bubble tea like experience - the matcha smoothies, if you're looking for a more milkshake/frappuccino feel Love it and keep coming back!
google avatar

Chinh L.

Yelp
No matter how many times I give this place a try, I always end up thoroughly disappointed. I have tried all their famous flavors, from the crown cream to the lemon tea, to the regular milk tea, this place always seem to underwhelm. Which is honestly such a disappointment because I had it before in San Francisco and it was amazing. The crown cream I think is a version of the sea salt cream cheese selection that they had before, except it had no sea salt which made the flavor really bland. The only reason why it gets a two star is because the milk tea is decent and the decor is cute.

Allison Z.

Yelp
The girl at the cashier was very readily available to make suggestions based on my restrictions. However, the lukewarm chocolate drink with cream crown (supposedly hot) gave me bad diarrhea for a day :(
google avatar

S D.

Yelp
Really cool place!! The staff are super friendly, and the teas are so cool! I had a special cooler lemon smoothie and it was perfect. It was sort of an ice slushie with delicious pieces of jelly with fresh lemon juice in it. It wasn't too sour or too sweet, I thought the balance was perfect because usually with bubble teas I try at other places get sickeningly sweet towards the end. They had loads of different types of tea combinations but nothing that is too overwhelming, it's a really simple and organised ordering process. I will definitely go back, and probably try their rock salt and cheese flavour!! Haha.
google avatar

Nic B.

Yelp
Not worth it, go to the place next door! Better service and better drinks. It's literally right next to another bubble tea place so you don't have to walk far.

Jackie Y.

Yelp
I had the passion fruit tea with boba. I didn't realize their flavoring has the fruit seeds in it. So it was a bit annoying to drink, but the taste was good. The boba was also very tasty! The texture was a little bit off, my guess from being on the older end.

Melody Q.

Yelp
Worst customer service. Don't bother coming here, bubble tea is mediocre, prices are high, and they will give you wrong change and deny it.
