The Best Bars in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Since opening, the bar from industry veterans Eric Johnson and Christian Siglin has become a popular staple in North Park. It’s a space — and a menu — crafted by bartenders who believe everyone loves high-quality, highly creative cocktails served quickly. While there’s an impressive bottle selection, the best drinks here are found batched, on draft. Located on a breezy corner, the bar offers a unique spin on porch-pounder cocktails, pickle boilermakers, and slow-sipping boozy drinks. The all-day food menu is designed to keep up, featuring hearty, drink-friendly bites like the mushroom-loaded Sloppy Jane and crispy fried cheese curds." - Kelly Bone

Cake Club Is a Must-Try Brooklyn Class for Baking Hobbyists | Eater NY

"An "art cafe" cited as a similar model, with locations in Greenpoint and Chinatown; attendees use it for ticketed craft programming such as collage and watercolor. One attendee, Caroline Bohra, who has tried collage and watercolor at this kind of space, summarizes the appeal succinctly: "The idea that I can come here and the cake's already made, the supplies are already out — it takes down a barrier." The cafe format is presented as lowering the barrier to entry for hobbies that otherwise feel overwhelming because of supply and equipment costs." - Bettina Makalintal

A Creative and Fun Family Experience at Happy Medium! We had a wonderful time at Happy Medium! We signed our 7-year-old son up for the paint-a-pot and play clay activities, and ended up spending nearly two hours enjoying the experience together as a family. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout. They offer both indoor and outdoor spaces for the activities — and since it was a beautiful day, we made the most of their lovely outdoor terrace. One thing to note: they don’t serve food or coffee on-site, but you’re welcome to bring your own. Luckily, there are plenty of great coffee spots and food options just around the corner. The whole experience cost around $110, which felt totally worth it for a fun and creative Sunday morning. It’s a great spot for families with kids — everyone can participate, and it’s relaxed and welcoming. We’re excited to return for more activities! The painted pot will be ready for pickup in 3–4 weeks, as it needs to be fired in the kiln (they’re super busy, which is a good sign!). I’m including some pictures below of what we made. Highly recommend for a weekend family outing!

Super fun creative experience in a really pretty setting! The backyard was so lovely and the inside felt like a fancy art class. The prices are a little high (especially for the paint a pot) but ultimately reasonable considering they provide everything for you! The website was a little unclear on what food/drink options were available but they had a big selection of non-alcoholic drinks and some pre packaged snacks for purchase inside.

Fun, Relaxing, and Creative Night Out! We went on a Friday night for a Paint-a-Pot session and had such a great time! Booking was super easy, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff were so friendly and helpful throughout. It was the perfect mix of relaxing and creative fun. I can’t wait to see our pieces after they’ve been glazed! Highly recommend for a fun night out or a unique activity with friends.

Went here last Saturday for a much needed catch-up with my girlfriends. We had such a lovely time with their Art Cafe. They offer a menu of different crafty/art activities to do - we decided to go with paint-a-pot. You get to decide from a variety of ceramics - from jewelry boxes, mugs, vases, ring dishes, platters, etc. At the end, you register your piece and you leave it there so they may fire it in the kiln for you. Then once your piece is ready, they notify you via email to pick it up, or have it shipped to you. I strongly recommend this spot for when you want a break from the usual bar or restaurant meet ups. I can’t wait to see our finished pieces!

So fun! Bring your friends or a date, this is perfect for a chat and creating something amazing. You pay to paint a pot/vase/mug, picture, clay art, scrapbook or make jewelry socially in a really cool atmosphere. There are drinks available but your here for the artsy vibes and creative memories.

I came here one afternoon and had an amazing time. Located in Greenpoint, this location is spacious, vibey, and very cute. They have a lot of different options for art projects that you can do with a cute menu to show you their offerings. The service here was really nice when I went. And on top of their "art menu" they also have some bites and drinks that you can enjoy as you do your art. I did their paint-a-pot activity and had a great time! You choose a ceramic out of their available ceramics and they provide you with different glaze colors. The process is pretty straightforward and I think that the prices are also reasonable. After you finish painting, you register your project through a QR code and pick it up in 2-3 weeks!

Such a fun place to go with friends or on a date! They have a bunch of different crafts you can do but we picked pottery painting this time around. They have different sized pieces so you could spend $15-50 dollars depending on what you select. Staff is also super friendly and attentive, will definitely be back!

Second time there. I loved the paint a pot experience and was very happy with it. The garden and staff is very nice. This time we did oil pastels, and it was incredibly disappointing. For 28$, you expect to be able to try actual oil pastels and have fun with shades etc. Instead, you’re given 5 extremely basic colors, not even in a crayon shape but in little homemade quarter inch square extremely impractical that disintegrates in your fingers. Just felt like kindergarten playdo meets wax crayons, was not able at all to experiment “oil pastels”

Yelp
My girls and I celebrated Galentines here. There were a lot of couples on dates and a few groups of friends. It was a nice ambiance and a great place to catch up with friends and have conversation. Beware, the prices on the menu dont reflect the price you will pay. I paid $20 on top of the paint-a-pot price to pay for the actual pot. My friend paid $28. Although I don't think the prices were bad, I think there are a few things that could have elevated the experience. The bar features super niche artisan type drinks but it would've been nice to have the option to get a coke or a sprite or something most people would be more familiar with. I also would've liked the option to have champagne or wine because they do not allow outside food or drinks. They were also out of mugs and paper for the watercolor so my girls didn't have the option to work on the crafts they wanted unfortunately. It was an overall fun experience but there are a few small improvements that could have made it much better.

Yelp
Happy Medium is a great local business supporting individuals making art and socializing, providing a "third space" where people can come together without the generic drinking alcohol. You need a reservation!! They have various arts and crafts activities, you pick one, and they provide all the materials. From making friendship bracelets to making art out of air-dry clay, there's something for you to express yourself. I loved how the space was huge- lots of room to work on your project. If you are visiting, you can glaze a ceramic, however, it takes them weeks to fire so you would have to pay for shipping. I chose air dry clay and I took the pieces home to paint. I made a holder for plant cuttings and little dishes for earrings. I had such a relaxing time. They offer snacks and mostly NA beverages. I was really happy with my experience! I will say, if you're traveling, you probably need to take care of your art while traveling, packing carefully so keep that in mind. Overall, I would recommend Happy Medium as a cute fun social activity or even for a unique celebration/party!

Yelp
People here were rude and unhelpful and the place was super overpriced. Dont recommend at all
