There are very few independent coffee shops in Chicago's Loop, and even less that are open on the weekend. To my recollection, other than Goddess and the Baker, the only other coffee shop options in the Loop on the Weekend are Starbucks and Dunkin. So, Happy Monday Coffee being open on Saturdays and Sundays is a huge plus right off the bat. This is, however, not the only plus. Their coffee is great. On a recent visit, I ordered the Iced Salted Caramel Latte. I loved it. It had a nice coffee taste, just right amount of caramel favor and the it wasn't too salty. I have found the salted caramel drinks are often way too salty, but thankful it was not in case. Also, the price of my drink was reasonable. I got a 12 oz for just over $5.00. Specifically drinks at Independent coffees are not cheap, but lately I feel the price is on the rise. I tried a new independent coffee shop in Pilsen (I won't name the place here) that changed over $7.00 for a tiny hot latte. In comparison, while not cheap, the price for my drink was reasonable. Next, I loved the vibe. The interior has sleek white walls, plenty of comfortable seating and lots of plants to make the place feel homely. They were even playing a chill-hop YouTub chancel for their music on a big flat scream TV that I have listened to in the past. I took my coffee to go, but I can see myself hanging out here.
There are some negatives. Given the location, this not a place you want to drive to as parking is expensive and scarce. While this is just life in this area of Chicago, and not the fault of the coffee shop, it limit how I can foresee myself coming here. I drove here, and had to park around the corner illegally. However, if you are on foot in the area this is the perfect spot. It is even close to an L stop. The chocolate and raspberry croissant was over priced and forgettable. It was soft, not crispy and flaky, but did have a decent chocolate and raspberry flavor. It tasted like it had been sitting in a plastic bag, and not freshly baked. To the barista's credit, she asked me if I wanted it heated up. I declined because I wanted to rush to get back to my car. At $5.00+ it was not worth it.
In sum, this coffee shop is a great find and must visit, especially if you are walking around the loop or work in the area.
