First time trying Happy Morning in Hacienda Heights. The restaurant name sounds funny because we were looking for a clay pot for dinner but this place is not only for breakfast. The ambiance was bright and welcoming. The seats were comfortable.
They serve a lot of authentic Cantonese food. We ordered the following:
1. Chinese sausage with rice Clay Pot ($16.99)
2. Pan Fried Vermicelli with seafood ($19.87)
3. Beef Rice Roll ($6.99)
4. Cantonese egg waffle ($6.99)
I had high expectations for their pan-fried vermicelli and clay pot rice after seeing many positive reviews online. They first served us with the Beef Rice Roll, they were delicious.
The second dish was the Cantonese egg waffle; however, we all did not like it. (We are Cantonese egg waffle fans, but it did not meet our expectations.)
The texture was off from what we normally have, and they could not be torn off perfectly, and they were not crispy. The taste was okay.
The third dish, Pan-Fried Vermicelli with Seafood, was visually impressive and nicely presented. While I haven't had this dish many times, I really enjoyed the texture contrast. It was perfectly crispy on top with a generous amount of saucy, soft noodles underneath. While the flavor was great, I only wish the seafood portion were a bit more generous.
Lastly, the Chinese sausage with rice in a clay pot. The taste was good, and it had crunchy rice at the bottom of the clay pot. However, if you don't like oily or greasy food, this dish may not be for you because it was very greasy at the bottom. It would be better if they added some veggies, such as choi sum or bok choi. It also came with a soup, but the taste was bland, and it was not hot.
My favorite dish was Pan Fried Vermicelli with Seafood (8.5/10)
2nd goes to: Chinese sausage with rice in a clay pot. (8/10)
3rd dish: Beef Rice Roll (8/10)
Our Least Favorite: Cantonese egg waffle (6/10)
Service: Good service
Overall, it was not bad, but I will give it about 3.5 stars. I will try their pan-fried vermicelli with minced beef & egg next time.
