That was a short-lived transition as this Little Italy corner breakfast spot was briefly taken over by Gooseberries. Within a couple of months something awry occurred, and the old Harbor Breakfast owners reclaimed the business. I even asked one of the workers what happened, and she was mum with her response. I had not visited before all this went down so everything seemed the same with the layout.
Despite the breakup, I noticed on the top right corner of the menu that Gooseberries' buttermilk biscuits and jam were still being served. Breakfast plates, omelettes, sides, baja specials, and lunch items were the food categories. I chose the first breakfast plate listed which was the signature Harbor Plate. I customized the contents by asking for two eggs sunny side up, chicken-apple sausage, beet-n-sweet potato hash, and a buttermilk biscuit with the Gooseberries jam.
The eggs were meh while the sausage had a mild flavor profile. The deep purple color of the beet and sweet potato hash was unique. Some added spices would have been nice to perk up the hash. The biscuits and jam were the stars of the plate. The round biscuit looked dry from the outside, but it was soft and moist on the inside. The jam was a less sweet version of strawberry preserves.
The service from the waitstaff at the counter where I sat was fine. For the food quality and price, I gave a 3.5 star rating for my meal at Harbor Breakfast.
