I watched the harbor lights
I long to hold you near and kiss you just once more
But you were on the ship and I was on the shore"

I can't remember the last time we went out to lunch, ordered our food at the counter, were directed to take a seat, and were told "it will take an hour for the food to come out". But it just happened on Monday at Bridgeport's Harborview Market. Maybe it was the Juneteenth holiday, maybe the kitchen was understaffed, I don't know because Harborview sure didn't seem crazy busy to us.
After we ordered, we did get our drinks right away and wandered outside to find a table. My green iced tea ($3.75 for 16 ounces) was homemade and quite delicious.
Harborview is oddly located smack in the middle of Bridgeport's Blackrock neighborhood. It's purely residential and is the only commercial establishment in sight -there are single family houses everywhere around you. So we had plenty of opportunity to sit and watch the cars in search of a parking spot and the locals walking over for a lunch. We needed all that time for a salad and two sandwiches to be prepared.
About 75 minutes later, our food was delivered to us. Two of my lunch companions ordered the same item - a Btat Sandwich ($11.25) with Bacon, turkey, avocado, tomato, and mayo on 12 grain toast. The sandwich was served with a pickle spear.
I went for a salad and chose the Sophie ($17.50) with spinach & arugula, carrots, red onion, cucumbers, spicy chicken, bacon, mandarin oranges, avocado, roasted walnuts, and a creamy garlic dressing.
My salad was great - a very generous serving of hot sauced chicken tenders inside a big bowl of those fresh salad fixings. The dish was excellent and large enough that some of it came home for another round.
But I havent even mentioned one of the very best features of Harborview -their cookies!!!!! OMG are they fantastic. We bought three for $5 and selected chocolate chip walnut, chocolate chip sea salt, and a brown sugar cookie and they fantastic. My favorite was the CCW - it was half an inch thick and absolutely loaded with chocolate.
Harborview cookies have become quite a cult item -go Google them and see for yourself. So if you're a Cookie Monster, or have one in your family, next time you're around Bridgeport go and satisfy your sweet tooth, grab a few, or finish off your meal with one!
